a little fun cruising the 5.3/t56 thirdgen. Arguably the best sounding 5.3 on youtube? Get your third gen f-body ls swap parts here: www.walterracecraft.com
I swapped a 5.3 atk hp97 into my 98 TA, and it sounds very similar to this, I love the way it drives too, the LS1 just felt so almost there...the 5.3 reminds me of a 327 in a light car from the 70s..cheers!
till this day the best 5,3 sounding exhaust on all of the internet and then some, hell i heard some people talking about it at walmart the other day a few ailes down, can you believe that lol
smooth shifting man, especially driving in the neighborhood... I can speed/power shift all day but just lugging around I need practice... Guess that shows what I have practice with lol Love the song, whats it called? pushrod porn?
no lt1 ? man i had a lt1 swapped into my s10 back in 1998 yea im old school before all the ls swaps, anyways the truck had a 5 speed i put some 355 gears in it and i guess all the stars were lined up that day or night and that truck was fast as hell,i beat so many mustangs and lt1 camaros,ss impalas yea it was fast,so all these yrs later i was like wth, lets do a swap,so i got a L96 6.0 cammed it i found a 05 blazer with a 5 speed and did the entire swap myself, installed a T56 ,well got it tuned and it ran like crap, got it tuned again runs like a dog on the bottom,so i saved up bought a torqstorm supercharger put it on,had my new tuner come over we went out riding, recalibrated it,then he said ok lets make some pulls and some power, the belt started popping off the alternator pulley,i was like aww damn,we made it home,im a stereo guy so its a mechman 370 amp alt the pulley i put on it was wobbling so i sent it back and im waiting, soon as i get it back its tune time again, and if it doesnt pull like that stock internal lt1 im gonna be pissed haha.
I read that most later style 5.3 heads are the same as the ls6/ls2 heads. So if you can find the right truck motor, you can have over 500 horses when built right. Or u can unbolt the heads and use them on your ls1 or a lsx block. If you read carefully on Wickapedia about Gen III engines then u can find the info on which 5.3 motors have the ls6/ls2 heads.
kinda. the 6.0 is out to go back to the machine shop. i swapped the t56 in cause i want to drive it more often. the 6.0 isn't gone, just down for the moment. the 5.3 is in there so i can get used to the t56
3rd is tricky. I bang the crap out of it power shifting but eventually I bent the 3/4 sift fork. Now I can't power shift 3rd... it won't take and free revs but I can shift as quick as I want as long as I let off the gas pedal :( Pissed me off the first time it happened. I was running a mid 12 sec fox and was hanging even.... till 3rd.
@mw66nova right on, you definitely know what you're doing man! I want to get a 6.0 badly, I've got a 5.7 vortec...but I dig the LSX platform more than the sbc (nothing against the old mouse). Nice car, great job!
. That is a factory dash out of a 4th generation Trans Am. The instrument cluster is custom. Same shape as the 4th gen cluster but with the aftermarket gauges and the carbon pattern
it is not a direct bolt on, but it's not too tough. i do not have any sort of HVAC in the car anymore, so getting the ducting and controls to work were not a concern for me. the brackets that hold it to the frame at the windshield are basically a bolt on deal, but the side brackets from the factory dash need to be trimmed up.
Jacob Thorp this had a t56, no adapter was required. there are bellhousing options for almost any transmission behind an ls this requiring no adapter plate.
how much work would be involved installing a 5.3 in my 1996 Z28 LT1 or am i better off just building the LT1? im not doing anything engine mod related right now. the car has 215K on it and it still runs decent. if i do mods beyond headers and exhuast the age and mileage on the engine might show its ugly head. im going to run it as long as i can, when it gets worn out its either time to buy a 5.3 or get a rebuilt LT1
i bet the 5.3 would get better gas mileage then the LT1 would. i know your laughing when i ask about gas mileage, but this is my daily driver 6 months out of the year. im not necessarily looking for an extreme build, but i love that V8 sound and like to have SOME performance. i also love a car that has enough power to climb the hills that i drive on a daily basis without downshifting. so would a stock 5.3 deliver significantly improved MPG both using the same 4L60E auto trans? can i use cylinder de-activation? how difficult of a swap is it? i would need PCM, wirring harness, and k member is everything else pretty much the same provided that i got a 5.3 complete with all accessories?
+andrew donohue it's really hard to quantify how hard yhe swap is without knowing your skill set. it's it's a good swap, but it's involved. if you get the kmember engine stands then use parts for 98+ car it should work. harnesses are way different. the 4l60e will work with the ls engine with a converter spacer
i thought the LSx and the LT1 used the same exact trans? the reason for wanting to keep the automatic trans, it was rebuilt before i bought the car and only has 40K on it so there is no reason not to keep the existing trans. i have done allot of work on cars, pulling heads and intake is no big deal for me. i have a good knowledge on the workings on an engine. what i have not done is too many swaps. i did one. i had a 1989 camaro RS i pulled the weakling L03 and put a L05 in its place. i installed L89 heads, headers, edlebrock cam, and bored throttle body. it ran strong but still not at powerful as the LT1. it was much better then the L03. anyways i have limited experience doing engine swaps but otherwise fairly strong automotive knowledge. it would be nice to eventually ditch the opti-spark that thing sucks. i already replaced it at the tune of $400 for a decent delphi non reman unit.
cam/carb/heads. nothing real fancy though honestly. the 5.3 sits on the stand and waits for it's turn in the event the "big motor" gets hurt. i keep it around, it's been a fantastic $200 engine! lol!
@@MattWalter1 this is a vortec right? It sounds so much better than the usual Silverado, is that just because of cams? and what kind of exhaust is on it lol
+Matt Walter o ok thanks a lot of people have told me only the 2005+ because the motor has the trans bar and won't fit to the the transmission or something like that
+Driftprodigy01 it has to do with the length of the output portion if the crankshaft. the earlier years was longer to fit the 4l80e transmissions. in 01 they started making the cranks all the same length, and the 4l80e applications got a spacer to make up the difference.
Hey thanks Mike! if you take 10 seconds to read the video description, you'll notice i even mention to go to the 3 and 4 minute marks to skip over the neighborhood driving....

It’s alive and angry. Nice Fire Turkey and awesome sounding

thanx for the quick reply man 👍
I honestly didn't know that a 1990 Camaro had some a decent dash. I like how you setup the gauges, perfect job.

What headers ?
@@SpecialFXKing at rhe time it has hawks 1-3/4" longtubes. They were the only thing available back then.

L33 5.3 has 799/243 (Ls6 heads)
Also has gen iv rotating assembly. Higher compression then the lm7 5.3
Nice set up. Like you said shifting needs work but just keep at it pretty soon they'll go by lightning quick as if it were second nature.
thanks! this video was from a little over a year ago. check out some of my other in car vids for improvment (though still not amazing or the best).

don't let off the throttle when you change gear just side step the clutch

was it hard to swap the 4th gen dash into the third and do you need any special parts or welds? thanx

How do you make it al work, like what do you do to mate it to the 5.3?
the 5.3 shares the same architecture as a regular LS1, so it's a direct bolt on.
