This has to have been the most satisfying 3rd gen firebird video ever.

@@austinhood The service engine light comes up when you remove the factory tbi/tpi harness and ecu from the car. Only thing you can do about it is remove the bulb. This happens on all carb swaps, ls swaps(regardless of FI or carb). Obviously, the car isn't completely done since there's no headliner.

Awesome build buddy! Sounds mean 😈 I have a 91 RS which I did a super budget swap LT1/T5 I put in a 9 bolt posi disc axle, all z28 sway bar's, subframe connectors, all poly bushings throughout, have a set of C6 corvette brakes I'm gonna install soon too, these cars are a joy to drive!
I'm 35 and I'm into these 3rd gen camaros. I rather drive one of these with a LS swap then a hellca, that 6:24 I was like 😍

Best sounding 3rd gen i have ever herd.Looks like a lot of fun to drive. What exhaust are you running?Still single into a dual out muffler or did u change everything .
stephenjray1988 it's a single in/out setup that I built. Has 1 3/4" longtubes 3" collectors 3" y pipe to a single 4" exhaust in the stock location with a Dyno max race bullet and a single tail pipe out the back.

I want to t56 swap my 92 z28
I know this is an old video but I have a t56 now and I noticed how hard it is to get into first sometimes which I saw happen to you in the video and how hard it is to get it in reverse. Just wondering if you knew how to improve that.
Could be the clutch slave needing bled more or shimmed. I suspect mine needs shimmed I just have never messed with it.
What rear end are you running? I just bought a 92 Firebird and I’m trying to put a 5.3 LS swap in it and I know I need the T 56 but I’m trying to figure out if I have to switch the rear end out or will the stock through and work

seems like a perfect balance of chassis and power here. it wouldn't be as much fun with a big turbo or something.
1flynlow definitely wanting a little more power but yes with my area boosting the car would make it not as fun IMO.
what are your plans for "a little" more power? lol. Already sounds pretty healthy for NA.
1flynlow ideally I want to put an aluminum block engine in eventually ls2/ls3 with h/c and leave it at that. The current setup does run really well but the suspension needs a lot of work to make it hook.
I've spent a lot of time and money building my 85 V6 for boost but there's no doubt I should have went this route.

Did the T56 bolt right up to the 5.3, or did you have to modify / change things?
Also is it a LT T56 or an LS T56?

Smitty's channel its a Ls t56 no modifications for it to bolt up.
@@screaming86 thanks; I have heard from a few ppl that you have to change the input or output shaft, etc. because most all 5.3's were truck motors with automatics
Smitty's channel the only ones that would be different are the early iron headed 6.0 truck engines. They had a longer crankshaft. I’m using a centerforce dfx ls1 style

Did an ls1 midplate and bell housing work for this swap? Any special type of pilot bearing?
Yes. However the trans itself is from a ls1 car too. I believe the bellhousing and trans came from a 2001 camaro.

MrJohn613 no clue it’s some wiring issue I believe. Ses light staying on but hook up HPT and no codes thrown or saved. I’m also still having issues with turn signals not working correctly. Think I have a messed up ground somewhere.
@@screaming86 yes i was also recently considering grounds, after swapping the engine. from factory the harness and engine both have ground straps but i threw the old v6 body-to-engine ground strap away. my first 85 had a bad ground in the tail light harness, the reverse lights and even the tail lights would flash with the signals lol. its funny how a lack of connection causes things to illuminate but yeah bad grounds to funny things, especially if in the dash / cluster
what vehicle did you get your electric fans from?
Original single fan that came in the car.
Also what state are you in? The scenery is beautiful. It looks like a great place to go on a nice drive.

I know this is an old video UT you say you are in Williams VA. Where exactly is that? I noticed you crossed Hwy 11 at one point on your drive. This Hwy parallels I81 though Virginia and I couldn't find a Williams anywhere near Hwy 11. I live near Hwy 11 in Knoxville TN and was just wondering.
Man I have so much build ideas and each one iam like ok is it for track,weekend, restore, daily, daily and track😭😭😭 Iam gonna start with maybe a ws6 5.3 swap but daily driver 4l80e shift kit no shift kit or t-56 the tracks and weekend projects will be th400 hopefully I start working soon and start some projects for content but school has been in the equation jr year 😭
What transmission you use and what did you have to do to get it to match up to the 5.3. Another youtuber said he used an 01 Silverado lm7 with a t56 out of a 2002 camaro but I’m not finding that t56 only 97 at the latest.
Rico Washington the engine is a 01 lm7 5.3 the transmission is a 00 or 01 t56 from a 4th gen fbody. You will need a 98-02 fbody t56 for a direct bolt up. Yes they had a t56 in the 93-97 fbody but the front plate bellhousing and I put shaft is different. The GTO mn12 t56 will work with the 98-02 fbody bellhousing and tailhousing and shifter

Dynomax race bullet 4” inlet and outlet. I believe the case is 12”. Car made 333whp/340wtq with a rich tuneup and 100° air temps.

How were you able to get your speedometer to work? I have an 87 firebird and i did a 383 swap and t56 swap but was never able to get the speedometer working again.

There is a “cable X” box you can buy to get it to work. Mine is wired in like factory.

I just got a 89 firebird roller was a 2.8 with auto, wondering how hard it would be to put a 96 camaro lt1/t56 in!
Pretty easy just need to swap to the v8 mounts for a thirdgen. The wiring will be the hardest part but there are plenty of write ups.
What all did you do to the motor cam,valves etc. also what kind of exhaust do you have I'm building my iroc I would like it to sound and perform just like this
if you don't mind my asking, how much does a swap like this cost. I would like very much to have a car like this but I'm 18 and have an extremely limited budget.
Well I bought all my stuff a little here and there and used a lot of used stuff and good deals on things. I think I have just shy of $4000 in my swap with t56 good clutch tick master cyl long tubes full 4" exhaust cam kit engine and everything to make it work in the car and run. It can be done much cheaper or more expensive depending on what you want. It would be cheaper to buy a donor 4th gen for 3-6k then part it out.
What type of fuel do you put in? Just the normal 87 or 92

Just a stock low compression 2001 5.3 from a Silverado baby cam ls1 Intake has longtubes into a 3" mandrel bent y pipe to a single 4" exhaust over the axle to a dynomax bullet with a single tail pipe out the back. The car is getting more compression cam and CNC heads soon...

How’d you make the t56 work with the 5.3?
Using a ls fbody t56 it bolts right up using ls FBody clutch and flywheel assembly. Since the 4.8-6.0 are all ls based engines it’s all pretty easily swapped around.
how did you get your gauges working?
Pocket built harness. Everything is tied into the car like it came that way.

Gleo Runyon 3rd yes the car has a 6 speed also. The posted speed limits In he areas driven are a max of 55 only in a couple of spots during this video. At the time the trans had a bent shift fork for 5/6 and 5th gear would not work. 6th would have lugged the car around below 60mph

@@screaming86 okay I'm getting the 5.3 from a 2001 Silverado. And getting the lt1 t56. Now are you using the stock 3rd gen clutch and pedals or 4th gens.
LevelUpLiving I am using 3rd gen pedals and a tick master cyl for a 4th gen. Need to modify the pin on the pedal for this. You will need a ls based t56 or be prepared to spend good money converting the lt1 style t56 to work. I’m using a centerforce DFX clutch for a ls car

@@screaming86 im looking at an iron block 5.3 probably out of a silverado, ive read some pre historic forums that say any f body t56 will bolt right up, is that what you found in your case? also what clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel did you use? for that ive found most people just buy an ls1 clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel.
Joe M yes this is a 01 LM7 5.3 with a 2000 fbody t56. Using a Jegs Ls1 flywheel and a centerforce DFX clutch. You could use the fbody flywheel and clutch kit though.

PO yeah this is racing innovation longtubes 3" y to a single 4" out the back with a dynomax bullet. I built he bigger exhaust to support forced induction setup later.

Chris P the factory buffer box is bypassed and there is a pin from the ls pcm that wires straight to the factory speedo.

what intake manifold are you running to fit that engine under the stock hood?
It has an ls1 fbody intake manifold. Most stock intake will fit. Even the truck intakes with a little bit of trimming.
