LS SWAP UNDER A $1000, Third Gen Camaro LS Engine Swap

- On todays video I will be showing you how you can swap your 3 gen Camaro for under a $1000, this only works if you have alot of the factory parts already still in t he car, like your factory transmission and radiator as that will save you a lot of the cost.
As you will see in the video by shopping around and getting a complete motor you can save you tons of money and time, you can save even more money by making your own wiring harness out of the factory ls wiring,.
You can also save money by using the truck oil pan and pick up tube and just having them cut down and welded back, you can use universal ls swap engine mounts and you can even use the factory ls flywheel with some mods.
Your factory LS engine computer will need vatts took off but should not cost no more than $150
If you have most of the parts for your car besides a engine they no reason you cant do this LS swap on your Camaro for under a $1000

Thanks, you can do a budget swap if you don't half to buy everything, like a trans and radiator and fuel system, if you just doing a engine swap its pretty cheap if you budget and shop around

Great build man, I've got pretty much the same setup but with the 6.0L GMC Denali XL engine. I used the factory passenger side truck exhaust manifold and a factory driver's side exhaust manifold from a 2001 V8 Camaro engine. I've added a 150hp nitrous kit and promptly broke the TH400 slip yoke. Replaced the slip yoke and it also broke. I ended up discovering that a 4L80E slip yoke is much beefier and it fits the TH400. It does require a specific universal joint to mate to the drive shaft, but so far, so good.
Also, not mentioned in your video.......there will be a bracket needed to attach onto the TH400 transmission which is necessary to secure the (axle) torque arm.

A ls is a great upgrade, prob about 200+ more hp than a stock 305 just by a engine swap

How did you hook the 700r4 trans up, far as the kick down cable on the throttle body
This car has a turbo 400, but I have did a 700r4 behind a ls, went lowes and sliced the tv cable with cable from lowes, u can also buy 700r4 cables for ls swaps, I always hook the cable up where the cruise control went on the throttle body
Hello my question is do u have to use a V8 subframe from the same year?
the subframes are the same on all 3 gens, just the motor mounts on the subframe is different, would need to switch to v8 mounts on subframe

So you used the factory tank? If so it must have a sump and baffles already
3 gen Camaros are factory fuel injection cars, they all ready setup for a in-tank fuel pump
Where did you order your motor mounts that you say made it easy to put in ? What model truck did the radiator hose come from? thanks in advance if you can help me out. Watching this video makes me want to try to keep my car instead of selling it

I’m having issues with my 6.0 corvette ac compressor and my oil pan clearing the crossmember
Did you use a fbody pan or a modified truck pan? We used a modified truck pan on this car, it was shorten in length, and we dropped the engine in by its self
Trying to install the transmisson and engine at same time will sometimes make the crossmember harder to clear do to the steep angle, doing engine only, let's u drop engine almost straight down in a smooth action, with little to no angel
Ok but how did you flash the ecu? They typically have to be unlocked to run because of the security?
you can mail your ECU off to get it flashed for find someone local, usually runs $50 to $100

If you used motor mounts like I did, then u use clam shells attached to them, they two dif clamshells from factory, a taller set by about a half inch and a shorter set, this car has the what we call car set of clam shells on it which lets it set a bit lower, but GM tossed the mounts in anything with a sbc lol I seen factory cars with the taller mounts
@@TattsForLife I’m using the factory clamshells that came on my small block 5.0 small block the engine sits so low in the car I probably only have 1/4 inch between the oil pan and steering cross shaft
do you have the bigger LS alternator or the smaller amp one
@@TattsForLife now that is a good question I really don’t know didn’t know the truck 6.0 had two different sizes but I’ll look into it
yah, they have 2 different ones, they even take two different belts
How much do these cars go for and are they more common in your state also can the a/c not fit ?
idk really, they range from $100 to $3500 I would say here, as for AC it would fit with factory AC box

You do not, we are using the factory steering box on thos car with faxtory ls pump

What fuel pump did you use and did you have to run a regulator?
I made a video on the fuel pump subject, the video has part numbers and how I installed it, I used a truck intake with built in fuel regulator
Is the eBay wiring harness just plug and play ?
Yes, if it's for the ls1 adapter plugs would be needed for injectors and mass air flow, if it's for truck engine none will be needed
What type of electric fans you use?
Stock 3 gen camaro fans
Which flywheel do you recommend for a 700r4
I really like the factor 6.0 flywheels with the spacers instead of the dish, but either one you can make work by widen the holes, you can buy a flywheel already works without any mods that is cheap on jegs or speedway

I am not sure, they was from a trade lol had to use adapters and spacers to make them work

Long tube headers from ebay for a 3 gen camaro, and side pipe exhaust
Don’t some LS engines not have a fuel return?
some intakes don't have a fuel return, but all fuel injection systems use a fuel return setup, some is built into the fuel filters older LS engines had the return on the intake, some run fuel regulators
how long did it take to install?
You could be running driving in a weekend if you have the free time and parts on hand
A long time. Many unplaned details to deal with on any transplant. Problem solving and fabrication skills will get a workout.

Do your gauges work?
Some do some don't lol 🤣 ones wired up does, wireing was a mess on this car before the swap, I have videos on the c30 with ls swap with factory gauges working and a sbc 4th gen trans am with factory gauges on my channel, just wire up ls ecm readout wires to your factory gauge wires and they should work

I just don't see the point in doing an LS Swap in a ThirdGen unless you're going to do it right. I suppose if it's the ONLY car you have and the motor in it is blown and you just need something to drive then sure I guess doing it this way is fine. However, I personally feel like if you're going to do an LS swap into a Thirdgen you should at least do a top-end rebuild with new springs, valves, lifters and camshaft. Also, for the love of god don't use the piece of shit 700R4 transmission. Even a used 4L60E or 4L80E from a Pick-N-Pull is going to be more reliable than the 700R4.
