10 years ago my dumb ass welded on a shorter idler and put on a shorter pitman arm on the box. Reduced steering but moved the centerlink away from the k-member, if only I had known I could have slid it up for clearance.
I flipped my center link 180 degrees. I’m considering using a 2nd Gen center link because they don’t tuck back as much as the 3rd gen link . Oil pan clearance n such
I considered this option as well, but I plan to do autocross/ road courses with this car and didn't want to mess up the geometry/ Ackerman Effect. Would be just fine for a strait line car or cruiser..
Correct, it is modeled after the LS1 pan, but mine was an aftermarket brand. The 5.3 windage tray is full length and will not clear the high tuck LS1 style oil pan, you will need to cut it down or get one off an LS1 car..
@@KravasGarage gotcha, thank you. I lq9 swapped and run stock steering. K-member from spohn, but wondering if I'll have issues since I ordered 1998 z28 ls1 oil pan for it from GM. (Car is far from together)
@@walterbrunson1850 that pan should work fine, just check on your lq9 windage tray, you may have to cut the front of the tray back to the next set of bolt holes to clear the front of the pan, (so instead of 10bolts holding it on you will have 8) if you search LS1 windage tray you will see how much shorter it is, I just modified mine to fit and it worked perfect!
Great video. thanks for showing all the real issues and not just an assembly video.
What did you use to support the engine off of the k memeber?
Is that the 302-3 pan?
Good work. I’d love a roll bar and I’d love to install a tubular sub-frame to my 83 firebird as well.
well how much weight did you save ?
Drop a link for the pan
Great video! Thanks for the tip about the retrofit oil pan! Tremendous help!

So what was the weight difference?
If I recall it was around 12-15lbs.
so, correct me if i'm wrong, but is the "aftermarket" oilpan not a ls1 oil pan for a 4th gen? Pretty sure those work without any issues?
