@@cade6897i don’t think that could work as once you get hit, you start rapidly losing the hidden “sustenance” bar that goes with hunger. Then again, regen might save you from dying from starvation. Tbh i never starved in minecraft so idk how bad it is
Hi gnembon. This farm is probably the best design out there due to it being afkable. I saw your next video to fix the issue about the water. Note that I used waterlogged stairs each 20 blocks. I didn't build this at ground level to avoid dealing with mobs trespassing, but I think I should've built this way high in the air to avoid mob spawning altogether, something I didn't take into account during the build, because now I suspect Endermen spawning nearby might pick up dirt blocks and place them in the farm ruining it. So keep this in mind.
One big tip: This farm is much easier to *carve* than to *build*. Make a classic "manual" ice farm of 6x6 chunks (just a huge 1-deep square lake), harvest it once to get the ice for construction, let it repopulate with ice, then carve the item transport channels, build the water holding areas, add slabs etc - the bulk of the farm, the ice spawning platforms will be already built by the freezing water.
Concerning the mouse click issue in 1.13; this is also a problem with AFK fish farms, and one I resolved by writing a program to send right mouse down/up events to the java window to toggle between using an item and not. So far, so good.
best way (found this years ago by accidentally locking my trackpad ^.^) hold mouse buttons then disconnect your mouse from the PC. you can do this with laptop easy by locking/disabling trackpad whilst holding the clicks too. if like me your mouse is plugged in the back of your tower, i have a backup mouse i plug in the front ^.^
You can make the rows 1 block smaller by using fencegates to hold back the water sources and have these fencegates above the sideways player paths. I tried it out and the fencegate hitbox is small enough that the player can still reach the ice without triggering the fencegates. In this way, you could extend the farm to 13 rows instead of 12 in the same footprint or even 14 with an extension of only 2 blocks outside the 6 x 6 chunk area. With 14 rows, the pickaxes should be almost exactly used up (I suggest reducing the width by 1 or just using 13 rows.)
hello kind sir. i wanted to ask you about how you did the water streams? i rebuilt your farm in 1.13 and i ran into a few issues. 1, a normal, as long as possible water stream is not enough to push the player from one to another stream. the longest it can be is 5 due to the water pushing power. 2, when i get to a corner, the water pushes the player into the other stream, but then gets stuck in the corner/turn.
Well this is like 3 years late but did you use ice under the end of the water streams? The ice provides the slipperiness that allows the player's momentum to make the player move on
I was thinking about designing a new ice farm since 1.13-pre2 came out... the problem is that even this ice farm can produce about 3 stacks of blue ice/h, which is probably not enough for most servers.. the real goal would be to make an ice farm capable of producing and moving towards the player 72k ice blocks/h, such as in ilmango's stone generator. Not really sure how it would be possible.. :-)
I don't know either. I think its possible but lag would be immense (need to transport blocks from very far). If its a multiplayer - you can have multiple farms operating at the same time. The CPU cost of this one is negligible. I am not saying you need to build 10 of them right away, or even this one in general, but a 3 hour AFK session, 11 pickaxes later would give you enough for a 1000 block blue ice path.
Hey Gnembon, slightly late on this video but I couldn't help noticing that the items were still moving while the game was paused at 9:30 approximately, I believe you are using the carpet mod which you made, I believe you could make them stop by changing there momentum tick speed you put it at. Ex: (X/20)*Y=Z, in which X= the game's tick speed, Y= the games old formula for the momentum of the items, and Z= the new momentum. P. S. to make sure the player is close enough to the ice without having to place something down on your key board, you could replace the signs above the water stream the player is in with trap doors or another similar block, I have not tested this though.
You can save one block in each of the trays by using a trapdoors over the walkway instead of signs connected to blocks. Unfortunately saving space doesn't mean you can cram more ice into the 6*6 chunks, since you have to watch out for pick durability.
Works in 1.16.3 but need to change the water moving I made it water source 5 blocks and then pressure plate W= Water Source P=pressure plate B= Block WBBBBBP
Even with this water setup I still keep getting stuck on the pressure plate/sign blocks on the ground :/ EDIT: read some other comments and tried a WBBBBS setup (S being sign, haven't tried it with a pressure plate yet) and that worked. Had to rework the corner a bit too.
I really like your Fun Farms. Before I used many pistons in my farms, but now I only use 2 pistons for my (your?) sugar cane farm. Ths Ice Farm is really impressive too. Keep going :)
I did the math! to make the fastest possible ice farm (1 block / tick), you need 4096 spots for ice to form. Every tick there is a 1/16 chance that ice in that chunk forms, the chance that ice forms on one coordinate is 1/16/16 * 1/16, because each chunk has 16*16 blocks with skylight. this means you have to have 16*16*16 (=4096) spots for ice to form, _theoretically_, because you have to get out the ice block immediately and have new water so that there is no chance of dropping one ice generation, so you'll probably need more, and ice needs at least one solid block next to it to form, so it also requires a lot of space. And it'll probably not be lag efficient either.
I'm confused on that. I mean I understand how it works but in what situation would a person need a water duping glitch? When it's possible to make an infinite water source, when would a person have only have one water and need to dupe it?
Nice design. Glad I own a Mad Catz Cyborg-Mouse that has seperate buttons that emulate me holding the button down. But this seems bugged. Encountered the same when I tried to program my Keyboard to emulate Mouse-presses in 1.12. Basically the game or the keyboard-software interprets my "hold mouseclick" as a repeated click and thus messes it up. Hope it's just a bug for all the other people out there.
I'm pretty sure this still works in 1.15 you just need to place a new water source (that moves the player) every 5 blocks rather then 8 to retain speed and make it over the dry block
I had a head start. As soon as I got a tweet from lady Agnes that they will add a recipe, I started thinking about it. Farm was ready 2 days before the pre-2.
I feel dumb or maybe I need some hand holding. Is there a block by block tutorial on how to build this or I should just pick it up from the descriptions given and looking at the cinematic?
Running test, a big cube (15*15*15 = 3375 ice > 375 packed ice) takes 5h to form completely... Seems the more efficient way to farm ice is making a huge pool
The farm kinda works in 1.19.3. It works in single player but for some reason on a multiplayer server I am getting stopped over the pressure plate sections and I am unsure how to solve this problem. Would shorter push sections work? Edit; Take off your armor if you have this problem it weighs you down, such a small detail you don't think about because it's a video game.
Hey gnembon? Is there any way to farm shulker shells? Like, a shulker farm, but without a spawned or anything. I’ve been looking for videos and tips, but I can’t find anything direct. Do you have any knowledge about how Shulkers spawn? To construct the farm based around its mechanics.
best way is to hold the buttons then disconnect the mouse, the PC will register you holding it because it didn't receive a signal for the "key up" (on laptop/trackpad you just lock the pad whilst holding the mouse buttons.) and for people like myself that have the mouse plugged in the back i have a backup mouse i use just to plug in the front, hold the buttons then pull it out.
*DOES THE FARM WORK ON 1.16.5?* Well, no. Something was changed in .5 that makes ice generate slower, so the farm is not afkable. Downgrade to .4 if you want to use this farm. Take a look at the one i built on my world to see some adjustments you need to make: imgur.com/a/EZHHXJO
Is there any biome that is better than others? I started building this in a frozen ocean/deep frozen ocean and i am not seeing ice generation as quickly as i expect.
Instead of using a cover to block the phantom spawn what if you have the player auto sleep in a bed? Use a daylight sensor to detect when it's night and then while the player enters the resupply have him go on a detour thathas him right clicking a bed and then carrying on. Also could you use regen beacons instead of food?
I downloaded your world to test it and I don't seem to be moving correctly. The water just doesn't push with very much power. I lose momentum on the dead spots where there is no water and it's all over. I'm running optifine so maybe that has some influence but I doubt it. I'm in 1.14.3
I tried to make ice farm with flying downpushers and waterlogged block on a pattern to have each water connect to waterlogged block to make it freeze faster. 1.13 have a feature of unpushable unfreazable watersource (waterlogged chest), but found aut that water touching waterlogged blocks don't freeze. Reported as MC-131287. Also question: Dispenser with water bucket will place bucket of water in chest or waterlog the chest? =P
Ah good call. I wonder if Mojang has plans to make these interact with water eventually. It would be nice to have some elements of the old water physics continue on
Can I use arrows for the tool recycler? I have multiple double chests sitting around from a mob farm, and I don't want to throw any of it away, but the section for arrows in my bulk sorter is getting filled up. if it doesn't cause too much lag, it might be a good use for them.
Just build it in a frozen biome under the height "y:63" or if you build it above this height just put leaves above the water paths and you'll avoid Phantoms from spawning.
What if while someone is eating they also need to put in the pickaxe into the item frame? Their pickaxe would break and they would lose yields. Would using only a regeneration beacon work just as well without having any potential issues with item frames?
It won't happen. You don't loose hunger from being moved around, only because of mining blocks. Regeneration beacon is useless, because it only matches starvation.
Not really, in these slow - draining farms food it the only option. Regeneration helps if player is taking significant damage, but even then Resistance is more helpful.
Cool farm! Seems to work nice. 3:30 ice is transparent right? So no light updates from moving the blocks. 6:04 why did some ice generate outside the chunk borders? "infinitely AFKable" (providing you have lots of diamond picks)" Yea, guess what, I don't :P Ahhh, the in-game auto clicker bug. You should try throwing snowballs, you'll win every snowball fight. What is the chance that you will lose a pickaxe? Hmm... Interesting that depth strider decreases your sliding momentum. Is there a balance between speed and sliding momentum by using a lower level of depth strider?
Still laggy. Regarding these random ice blocks, my bad, didn't go immediately to spectator. I also removed infinitely fro the description. You are right, except I still have some silk touch shears lying around ;p also here you should never loose a pickaxe as it's significantly less ice to harvest than a full durability. You could widen the farm by a few blocks and get in a dangerous territory. Regarding depth strider the less of it you have the faster you can be pushed over ice.
It takes 40,500 ice to make 500 blue ice. 500 blue ice gets you 1000 blocks of travel. If you have a large world and need to travel a lot, large ice farms become a neccesity if you want to spend hours on a railway

Not true. Like this one probably built 5-8 block wider would use more of the pickaxe 😛 but I try.
gnembon What about fun farm 20 ?
The intro made me subscribe you, thanks!
Works in 1.16.3 but need to change the water moving
I made it water source 5 blocks and then pressure plate
W= Water Source
P=pressure plate
B= Block

I assume you mean under the players feet?
Even with this water setup I still keep getting stuck on the pressure plate/sign blocks on the ground :/
EDIT: read some other comments and tried a WBBBBS setup (S being sign, haven't tried it with a pressure plate yet) and that worked.

@massimoparisi307CRAFT it by hand
I had the same problem, I changed the water lenght that pushes the player to max 3 blocks long. uncluding the source block
@@horaz86nope24 I was able to solve the problem, take off my armor, such a small detail.
Search for shulker shell shucker by Ray's works. A lot of effort but it's 100% vanilla.
Advise for 1.13+ is to put a roof on the player water paths so you don’t get phantoms
This farm works very ice-ly!
I just finished building an Etho style ice cube. Thanks -_-
You will get material to build a new farm ;-)
Tape down your mouse buttons :P
Not the most elegant solution, but it works
I used to put a rubber band to go fishing
best way is to hold the buttons then disconnect the mouse, the PC will register you holding it because it didn't receive a signal for the "key up" (on laptop/trackpad you just lock the pad whilst holding the mouse buttons.)
and for people like myself that have the mouse plugged in the back i have a backup mouse i use just to plug in the front, hold the buttons then pull it out.
*DOES THE FARM WORK ON 1.16.5?*
Well, no. Something was changed in .5 that makes ice generate slower, so the farm is not afkable. Downgrade to .4 if you want to use this farm. Take a look at the one i built on my world to see some adjustments you need to make: imgur.com/a/EZHHXJO
Great!
Hope both bugs gets fixed before release. ;)
How do you prevent mobs and phantoms from hitting you without having to build an entire dome around it
Is there any biome that is better than others? I started building this in a frozen ocean/deep frozen ocean and i am not seeing ice generation as quickly as i expect.
Where is fun farm episode 20 on guardian farms? You talked about it in ep 19, but i dont see its existence.
Will Phantons attack you while you AFK at this farm?
You can maybe put blocks at top of your head^^^
cool farm
is there command for carpet bots? player works but not bots...
Unless it's random which way you face you can just account for which direction you get up out of bed.
I downloaded your world to test it and I don't seem to be moving correctly. The water just doesn't push with very much power. I lose momentum on the dead spots where there is no water and it's all over. I'm running optifine so maybe that has some influence but I doubt it. I'm in 1.14.3
Optifine is purely visual.

That some really good thinking. It's a pity that the game mechanics didn't want to cooperate
its because ice only forms when touching a non-water block a waterlogged block is still a water source, not a "non-water" block.
So you get about 5 and 1/4 full double chests per hour. Jeez that's a lotta ice
bro all these comments are ancient lol, but great tutorial!thx
So are signs and pressure plates the only block exempt from the new 1.13 water mechanics?
Ah good call. I wonder if Mojang has plans to make these interact with water eventually. It would be nice to have some elements of the old water physics continue on
The water physics haven't changed, but now you can place water sources inside various blocks. Water will not flow into those blocks.
Can you tell me how water physics have changed? And I am not talking about how other things behave when in water.
This great farm was broken in 1.14.1 :(
why?
@@miguelg2071 lots of ice stacks would not be washed into the transmission water flow.
@@snakevilzen1344 "My next video in the series (kelp) discusses that and how to fix it." - gnembon
Up to which version does this work?
Wow.amazing
Can I use arrows for the tool recycler? I have multiple double chests sitting around from a mob farm, and I don't want to throw any of it away, but the section for arrows in my bulk sorter is getting filled up. if it doesn't cause too much lag, it might be a good use for them.
arrows should work fine
Wouldn't this not work in 1.13 because phantoms?
Just build it in a frozen biome under the height "y:63" or if you build it above this height just put leaves above the water paths and you'll avoid Phantoms from spawning.
Of u want A 1.13 lostless farm place signs under ICE and make collection system
Can you do a iron farm? Because you havent done one yet, i think and other farms arent that efficient for me
I believe that he has one planned, if you don't want to wait, you could go check out tango tek, he tends to have fast farms that are toggleable.
I believe this is broken in 1.13 full release. the player doesn't get pushed over the 1 wide ice to the next water stream so you stop at that point.
My next video in the series (kelp) discusses that and how to fix it.
Does this farm work at 1.16.1? I don't want to waste time getting materials on my survival
This is good
Uh can you do a tutorial on how to make it
What if while someone is eating they also need to put in the pickaxe into the item frame? Their pickaxe would break and they would lose yields. Would using only a regeneration beacon work just as well without having any potential issues with item frames?
It won't happen. You don't loose hunger from being moved around, only because of mining blocks. Regeneration beacon is useless, because it only matches starvation.
I mean having a regeneration beacon instead of having to have a source of food.
"infinitely AFKable" (providing you have lots of diamond picks)" Yea, guess what, I don't :P
Ahhh, the in-game auto clicker bug.
Yo dawg I heard you want ice
It takes 40,500 ice to make 500 blue ice. 500 blue ice gets you 1000 blocks of travel.
If you have a large world and need to travel a lot, large ice farms become a neccesity if you want to spend hours on a railway
im guessing your water has no animated textures do reduce lag but it looks super weird though
I typically have all animations off for fps reasons, but I noticed mid way that and turned them on.
