And yet she only ever calls herself evil as a facade.
Sadly most of the clues people would need to come to that conclusion are in the WN/LN and not the anime

@@kenkaneki3873 just cuz someone is self aware doesn’t mean their actions aren’t bad. The whole narrative about “well actually she wanted him to not take the contract” is contradictory to what she says she is. She understands consent but doesn’t fully understand emotions, so she doesn’t recognize what she did as being manipulative even tho it was. She’s trying what she thinks will make him take it, and she actually DID want her to take the contract.
But she respects the actions of others, hence why she wanted Betty to make her own choices. Hence why she watched Garf, Emilia, and Subaru in the trial. So even if she wanted it, she accepts that Subaru doesn’t want it and lets it go.
She’s not evil, but she’s not good either. She literally ended up using Ryuzu just to extend her life.

@@BelBelle468however people miss that Echidna actually cared. Being good or evil doesn't have to do with it. It is a red herring laid by the author. However, people dismiss intentions because after all they showed beforehand a "she is antagonistic, therefore there is no way she cared" idea. This arc plays with that in the case of Echidna. In fact, in this very same episode, the voice and dialogues to Beatrice conveys that she cares for her and protected her. The point was not to show Echidna is evil because she did that to Beatrice. It was to show she is inhuman because of her indifference. It is in fact, Beatrice's own fault in some way, because what Echidna hopes is for her to grow out of her now that she is going to die. This wound was self inflicted.

52:39 An additional detail that isn't fully captured in the subtitles is that Roswaal changes the way he addresses himself, going from _watashi wa_ (used by adults) to _boku wa_ (used by boys/male students). He felt so lost in that moment that he basically regressed to a child begging his teacher for help.

Many adult men use "boku" too if they are talking to friends. Some use boku to talk to their boss when they go out drinking after work but during work they use watashi but yeah adult men usually use watashi or ore. Your last point count be right though. Maybe he used boku when he was with Echidna when he was younger but because he eventually tried to copy Warlock of Melancholy who used watashi maybe so he switch to watashi because of the Warlock. That was the episode that made me fall in love with Re:zero. I was hooked by the end of the first episode. I realized it was much more than a normal isekai by episode 7.
I cried at episode 18 because I related to subaru's speech and finally understood exactly what was eating me on the inside for so long. But "Choose me" made re:zero my favorite fiction ever. It made me start reading for the first time in so many years, and it made me realize that the characters in this novel have so much depth to them like I have never seen before. I feel like sometimes I'm going crazy because I feel like so few people know how great rezero is. Don't get me wrong, it's incredibly popular, but mostly because of the waifus and not because of the incredible cast of characters and mysteries.

    - There are two separate series of shorts: Re-Petit and Re:Zero Break Time. Both are light hearted, they're literally a BREAK from the mayhem of the show. If you liked Rem filling the bath with mayo... it's kinda like that vibe

Beatrice saying "I'm so tired" is one of the hardest hitting lines in the show for me. Shes been stuck in that depressed state for long and just doesn't have the energy to wait it out any longer. You guys hit the nail on the head that Subaru recognized that the only way Betty can move forward is herself, and he's trying to inspire her the same way Rem inspired him.
Also fun note, when Subaru had his long talk with Rem and he was hating himself he asked her "you don't mind that it's me?" and now he's confidently telling Betty "I'm just me, Natsuki Subaru." How far our boy has come

The nature of artificial spirits wasn't well explained in the anime. Beatrice is an artificial spirit created by Echidna. Artificial spirits can't live without a purpose, that's how they are constituted, they are not humans. This should put what have just transpired into perspective. Echidna said that she was facing a powerful enemy and she couldn't let them both die, justifying it by the necessity of passing on her knowledge to future generations, so the "contract"(although described in the flashback as a "last request") was made. Which will be more agonising - being left without a purpose as an artificial spirit or fulfilling a 'contract' for 400 years in solitude - that is the question. Although "solitude" was never a condition, there were zero conditions to begin with, but Beako is a stubborn and prideful child.
When Subaru asked Echidna about her contract with Beatrice at the last tea party, her answer was cut and rephrased in the anime. Here is what she actually said :
That child was born for a certain purpose. However, it became necessary to keep her alive in a way that differed from her original purpose... That's why she was kept away from the "Sanctuary", but it was necessary to give her a purpose when doing so. To give that empty child a purpose to live, in a sense. That's why I made a contract with her. To maintain the Forbidden Library and eventually hand everything over to 'that person' who will come. No restrictions were set. It was an issue with no set answer. That child will be kept alive as planned, and I will be able to see the answer to a separate pursuit. It's very rational, don't you think?
    P. S. as for the other people who reached for Beako there were plenty of kind and sincere people, but she rejected all of them.

I only realised during a rewatch that betty never calls anyone by their name except roswaal. Its cuz except him, whom she was familiar with, everyone else is half _ girl, blue maid, red maid, bug/you, etc. cuz she was distancing herself from people and hence her calling Subaru by his name was precious as she said it repeatedly to etch him into her soul.
Another theory i have is that they hint that older echidna, older than how she looks in her tea party, had slowly turned mellow and did actually care for betty. I mean we've seen Elsa kill her & she knew guese. So knowing Roswaal would end up with Emilia along with puck, it was as if she's assigning the guardians and protectors for her while keep her away from guese unless something really bad happens. So in a way to have her grow up & not be killed, i believe the older echidna put her child in a safe place, the safest she could think of until she grew mature in thinking. And even in the worst case scenario where she'd be forever stuck in library for 400 years, she was still alive for that long even though depressed. And subaru saving her seems as if the plan she had actually worked out, she is back to the outside world.

With echidna's voice this episode & soul replication brought into picture, I think I'm safe to assume you can replicate soul at a certain time of your life & save that personality but have the newer memories instead. That'll also explain how the broken roswaal who copied his soul after echidna's death just replicates his inhuman depressed self over & over with just new memories (apparently he also was a girl a few times around)

      @kenkaneki3873 5 месяцев назад +8

It is 100% neither malicious nor underhanded.
A lot of people fall into the trap of taking everything she says at face value so once she *claims* to be doing things for "evil" reasons from that moment onward they view everything she does as cold and evil.
When you go back to the scene were she creates the library it's very much a decision she makes on the spot in order to give betty a reason to not follow her into battle against Hector as she would be guatenteed to die.
She then comes up with the idea of the library and giving betty the duty to protect until "that person" arrives who was in reality anybody that betty could have chosen at any point.
Echidnas intentions become even more obvious when the flashback ends and she says "Betty...I hope you grow up healthy atleast" and she's clearly saying it in a pained voice.

The second she said that Betty needed to be away from the danger, the intent is evident. She even ends it by saying she wants Betty to grow up healthy. She also was just vague in her phrasing, likely to allow for the rules being said to be adaptable to future situations. She basically only said to take care of the library, and never gave her any serious conditions. But the open endedness was the downfall. She cared about Betty’s choices, but Betty refused to make any.

this was what made me completely and totally fall for Beako and how she's number 2 best girl for me.
Her words here hit so damn hard and her fears over losing people that hits WAY harder than it ever should, she deserves all the love and attention in the world. It's why I call her Beako because she's adorable.

Season 3 is set for October. They have two trailers. One is the announcement teaser, and the other is the release date trailer. Might be slightly spoiler to the contents of S3, but seems alright. Hopefully, it goes smoothly.
Other than that, there are like these commercial shorts that go over cut or extra content, although I don't know where you can watch those.
There's Quartet, which is a spinoff joke series that includes characters from four different shows: Rezero, Konosuba, Overlord, and Tanya the Evil. Probably need to watch all those shows first since Quartet relies on the character dynamics.
Then there are the if stories following each of the sins. Which are written stories that you would either have to read or watch fanmade summaries of. But they contain spoilers, especially if they ever get animated.

There is a lot of material for future seasons, we have a lot of light novels and they continue to be released annually. The story only gets better and more insane, which is why re:zero has become my favorite series ever. I promise the next seasons will be awesome, it will change the course of isekais fantasy anime. The light novels are really worth reading, they are brilliant writing by Tappei.

I'm such a sucker for the moment when a ton of woven threads get pulled together, it's a huge payoff. The end of this episode was the nexus point for S2 for me, it feels like the story weaves itself backwards in time from this converging point and it makes the show even better on a rewatch. Obviously they started pulling it together a few episodes back, and we have one more to go, but I felt such a surge of comfort and warmth at the sight of Betty, Subaru, and Emilia all standing together against the storm. Peak Re:Zero storytelling moment for me

oh and btw, Otto's dad is in this episode if you can spot him
Oh and on the subject of Beako and others, now the full context is here for you, I can explain it.
Every last one of the people who you saw enter the Library came there for the knowledge and understanding in the Library, they sought out the things there to help them with what they wanted, they didn't care about Beako, she was incidental to their needs.
Subaru only ever came to the Library to see Beako - because he is a genuinely nice person who wants to see other people - and that's part of the reason why Beako is so affected by him, he never really went to the Library to see the knowledge that Echidna stored, he went to see HER.
And that's why when he does go to see her at the beginning of the season and doesn't go to see HER but to get information FROM HER, you see Beako freak the hell out and throw Subaru out of the room, blocks him off and is intensely angry at him for a while.
It is VERY hard to see on a first time watching but when you have the context for what is hurting Beatrice you begin to see everything, she was so standoffish at the start of the series itself that she told herself that it's none of her business that Subaru has a curse on him as she believes he'll just use and abandon her like everyone else does.
It's why she's so adorable in every single way.

Apparently there were ppl interested in Betty, like Otto’s dad (who I believe came for assistance regarding Otto’s blessing). But Betty rejected them. Subaru had to do a lot to win her over.

49:20 Notably Roswaal cannot use healing magic, so ironically, his power cannot save Ram except giving her mana like he usually does.
57:20 The Re-Zero Break Time shorts are probably what you're thinking of. Crunchyroll only has 1 season but it's some extra content & world-building.

Not only do the voices from the Future trial not need to pertain to Emilia, they don't even have to be from the canon timeline.

14:50 Giving any leeway for one of those voices to be Elsa is just silly, no? If she was squished so magnificently at any point close to this vision of troublesome futures, it would either be one, futile by the author, giving epically highlighted exposure in one of the Trials for someone who could never be in thise futures, or two, casting extreme doubt or at least declawing the entire "squishing the Bowel Hunter" scene, inferring that she didn't die, and giving the viewer far too much to contemplate in an already super cerebral show.

7:55 Why the hell would all off those voice be connected? There is totally different context to every single voice, and like 20 different people talking. That all pertaining to one event or thing would be mega uninteresting by the the author.

Spoilers post season 2, arc 5 specifically, I'm sorry!:
So yeah Wilhelm was definitely speaking to Reinhard in the future trial, because of the way he out of anger treated him as killing Theresia by asking for the sword saint blessing. But the reason I always ignored these theories was just because I don't like people arguing about whether Reinhard's going to lose his blessing which based on q and as among other things AND the fact that he literally wouldn't lose his power if he lost the blessing because it just raises your abilities it doesn't actively do anything much other than let you hold dragon sword Reid.
But that means I've been ignoring what makes it interesting anyway. The question with those scenes isn't did x thing happen, but why are their relationships like that because it just shows so many people turning on each other and/or in despair. And I've always thought Wilhelm just spreads around a lot of assumptions about things he didn't ask about. He probably knows very little about how Theresia's blessings worked since he doesn't have one, but his whole claim to humility and working to get where he was on his own ability has been a bit of a flaw. He doesn't think there's anything special about him and tends to treat the world as one of equal opportunity where anyone who works hard can be strong, to be honest he's looked down on people who didn't devote themselves like he did a lot and though he loved Theresia, he also originally was angered at someone having strength and not wanting it, or not working hard for it. So it makes sense that this would be a deeper gap between him and Reinhard, hell Heinkel too: one person who had too much power without wanting or working for it, another who despite working at it for so long never lived up to his father's standards and by Wilhelm's logic, since he was never anything special his son's struggles wouldn't mean anything and if he just devoted himself to the sword more he'd be stronger.
So basically, "without it, you cannot even hold a sword you thief!" probably isn't said because Reinhard lost his blessing and failed or something. It's more that whether he had it or not, even if he lost it but still had his usual abilities, he fails Wilhelm's ideals of solely having power because you worked for it. And Wilhelm believes in them so obsessively that he will not easily change his belief that Reinhard in a moment of weakness asked for the blessing and od lagna gave it to him as a child, leaving poor weak Theresia to die helplessly. I don't think he'd admit that even without any of her blessings left, Theresia would still be a capable fighter on the battlefield because of how the blessing works and because no matter how it started, she still got that experience herself. Like she was still the one fighting in war, it wasn't just her being puppeted by the blessing but it was a part of her which wouldn't just leave no trace behind even if Reinhard DID "steal" it from her.
He definitely wouldn't accept that there was any inequality in his own abilities as a prodigy in war either. Maybe it wasn't a blessing or authority or magic which gave him them but people aren't just born equal in that way and trying to deny it or get angry at that fact is just running into a brick wall. As a result of which he doesn't understand either Theresia's or Reinhard's perspectives as people struggling with the responsibilities their power entails, the truth of how Theresia died, or Heinkel's struggles as someone who isn't born with blessings and doesn't have an unlimited capacity for growing as a fighter.

    • @yunfanji
      @yunfanji Месяц назад

It is ironic. Wilheim wanted to get rid of her blessing to free her and when that happened, fate had another idea of being free.
