Nice to see the old .270 stretching its legs. Great video. Owned one since 1963, (a Sako Finnbear .270), I bought in Nelson, when I was a culler with the New Zealand Forest Service. No scope in those days, but lots of long shots in "difficult" country. Now in my 70's, retired to Queensland, I still have a .270, a Carl Gustaf. Enjoy your channel, thank you for sharing.......

🤠 Montana Mountain Man (Ron) - I own several 270 Winchesters in the Sako Model 75 and 85 and it is my favorite hunting caliber! Great for Long Range hunting without destroying alot of meat and cheap to shoot! You just need to pick the right bullet for the job of the species that you are hunting! What a pleasant shooter this caliber is! 🥳

I truly love your videos. You’re often shooting calibers that are relevant to me in Idaho. I wonder now if you might ring out the 270 WSM and 300 WSM. I’ve been tinkering with both lately and would benefit from seeing what you do with them.

I used to reload specially for 600 yards. I was obsessed with a 270 cal f class build. Of coarse nowadays I’d start with a 6.8 western, custom reamed barrel at least 26in. I always wanted the expensive bergers and matchkings to perform-they did-but nothing could match nosler bullets for the 270 win in any barrel.

Tell you what…I would not willingly stand in front of a target for even the first shot at any distance with Mark shooting. Well maybe if he was blindfolded, but even then, I’d be real nervous. And I wouldn’t stay there for a second shot if Sam was spotting!
    Well done, my friends.

Funny to see the scope itself moving downward as you adjust the elevation at the beginning of the video. Those March Genesis scopes are very interesting in that regard. They solve certain problems involved with ELR but, as with all engineering solutions, bring in a different set of problems with those solutions.
I really love how you guys use all sorts of different calibers at long and ELR distances and get amazing results. If you read the long range forums, you'd come out believing that unless you are shooting a .375 or larger, you're unlikely even to hit the earth past 1200 yards. You guys show that even "mild" cartridges like .308 and .270 can perform at ELR distances with the proper skill level at the trigger. Great work always.
P.S. Got my 4AW four port brake about a month or so ago. Got it timed on my 300WM project rifle and have been out 3 times with it. It works great. With 220 grain loads close to 3000fps the felt recoil is at a nice pleasant .243Win level. Shot about 50 rounds each day and could have shot 200 more without any fatigue. Fantastic product. Thanks from Meridian, Idaho.

I appreciate the work you guys put into all of this.
Also enjoying seeing old cartridges like the .270 holding their own.
Next year they’ll be something out thats,”Faster, flatter, lighter, more aerodynamic, lowers cholesterol, etc.”
In reality there’s a reason some cartridges have had such staying power.
Maybe, just maybe; it’s as much about the shooter as it is the cartridge/rifle.
    God bless guys!

Thinking about all of the chemistry, physics, knowledge and skill to put 5 rounds into about 1.5 m @ ~2750 m, with such a pesky wind, man!
Is it about 1.5 MOA? At 2750 m and wind... The powder, the load, the primer, the bullet mass, chambering, barrel stability, in-battery action stability... And, rather decent shooter's skill 🫅

I've got a Howa 1500 in 7mm magnum. Fantastic gun. It has been my elk hunting rifle for a few years. Gets about a 0.75" 5-shot group with Federal 178gr Bear Claws. With my 175gr Hornady ELD-X and 168gr Berger Hybrid Hunter reloads I can get those groups down to about 0.5-0.6 inches. Fantastic performance for an out-of-the-box factory rifle. The only thing that is not stock on the rifle is the Terminator T1 muzzle brake I put on it because I had one lying around that was not used for a different project.

As cartridges go, there is nothing wrong with .270 caliber or the .30-06 parent case for capacity. There is however the problem associated with the barrel twist rate when trying to push high BC bullets more than 150grains. In my book that really is not a problem. It's just an engineering issue to be corrected with a new barrel. Call it .270 Winchester the next generation, or chapter II. It's taking a near full blown antique and historic high performance hunting cartridge to a whole new level.

Mate awesome shooting, i ask in all politeness and respect. Have you considered shooting on a larger target in the past or into the future? Understanding the price of abrasion resistant steel as i work with every day isnt too friendly, but would the larger target area allowing for true impacts to give a far more exact and quantifiable group size be worth it too yourselves? Even such size as 48"x48" being a little over MOA for 3000yrds.

    • @markandsamafterwork

Tyler, how far do you plan on shooting with the 8x? LVPO scopes have gotten my attention lately. I mostly shoot 100 yards and under off my back porch. 4x seems perfect for me. I always leave it on 4x whether it's 20 yards or 100. Less shaking of the reticle than high power. Could a person shoot 2 or 300 with 8x comfortably? I guess that's what I'm curious about. High magnification is awesome if you have an extremely stable platform like a lead sled, but I try to use as little magnification as I can get away with as I'm normally using nothing more than a shooting bag.

That target is so far away, the sun has already set on your shooting position, and is rising on your target’s.

Great video! The people that write the comments of being so amazed or so super impressed about getting the ole .270 to reach out and deliver at that range, obviously have never been around the .270!
I purchased my new Ruger M77 .270 back in 1981 and it’s one of my guns that I’ll never part with! I’ve used it for Mule a white tail deer, elk and made loads for Prairie dogs! Also target!
I did built a one off target, tackle style stock to my exact dimensions, and I settled on a 6x20x60 illuminated reticle scope it’s setup perfectly for me so yeah never underestimate the ‘old’ .270 win!!

You know it's a nice shot when it hits dead center and the paint chips off in the shape of kitty cat. 😹👍

Good work. If only 1:8 twist was commonly offered in an off the shelf rifle by the major manufactures.

Browning is now doing just that. Id keep one of my 270win in the 1-10" twist so I could use lighter vermin bullets and common hunt bullets and I need to have one with 1-8" or 1-7".
