Don't deer hunt anymore but did a lot for many years and .270 was my favorite. And my favorite gun among them all was a Remington ADL. Dropped many of them with that little gun. Never a miss and never more than one shot.
Now days I feed my little herd of em here at the house and cuss em often for eating my plants. hahahaha

.270 is probably my all time favorite. It’s definitely interesting to see those Winchester loads hitting in the same spot. I’m a big fan of the Winchester 130 grain soft points. Never failed me on a white tail.

I have a Vanguard in .270 that I've had for 10+ years. Highly recommend it. It is extremely accurate for a hunting rifle with off the shelf factory ammo. No problem hitting a pop can at 250m.

Good video. I have done this same test several times with my old ‘06. Federal in every case shot lower than every other manufacturers.
Remington 150 gr core loks have always out performed every other rnd, at least in my 70 year old Springfield (JC Higgins) Never lost an animal in 50 years of hunting with them. Dad taught me early on...”one shot one kill”...

I've heard more than once that .270 often prints 130 and 150 grain loads on top of each other or darned close at 100 yards. If you can have a 100 yard 150 grain "brush" load and a 130 grain longer range load that prints right with a common zero that's great.

Just sighted my .270 in with 130gr winchester deer season loads on Friday. I went out again Saturday with 96gr Norma EvoStrikes. I expected to make adjustments but the both shot dead center in my dad's old Remington Sportsman 78 from the 80's. I'm pleased lol.

I have a late 1960's vintage Win mod 70 in 270. We have used 130gr Sierra GK hand loads for generations in our family for deer. They have always been very accurate and very effective on white tails in PA. It's hard to argue with that group you got with the federal ammo. I suggest that you repeat your test just to make certain that you are getting consistent results with a cold barrel. Its funny that you made the comment about it kicking harder than you remember. My dad got a good deal on his 270 in the 1970s because its former owner complained that "kicked too dang hard".

Looks like me at the range last week. Took out my Savage 110 in .270. Since ammo is scarcer than hens teeth, I grab a box whenever I see it. Now I have 2 or 3 boxes of 6 different brands and grains! Had to get to the range to see how it all shot!

The .270 is a sweet round to shoot. My father bought a M 721 Rem in .270 new in 1953. He got me and the gun I guess for his birthday instead of Mother getting a new couch. That rifle fed us for many years on whitetail. He also took all sorts of predators such as fox, coyotes, and many feral dogs that would kill our livestock (sheep and goats) with that rifle. I also took my first deer with that rifle when I was 6 years old. I took many deer with that gun also and will pass it down. I guess there are better rounds out there but it still runs near the top of the pack.
Back then we shot mostly 130 gr bullets. Now I favor Barnes or Hornaday 130 gr. or 140's. I like the way the 120 gr Hornaday shoots.

I appreciate your videos man, 270 is my favorite caliber. You alluded to it, and I agree the 270 barrel heats up really fast, and I would have given it some time between different ammo. And also different barrels like different ammo better so you know, it’s not necessarily conclusive that you’re gone like one better than the other, but, it is an idea. I reload so I get a chance to check out a lot of different kind of bullets and a lot of different powder in situation, and I can say for sure different 270s like different bullets and different powder loads. Good job bro!

I always enjoy your videos. I especially liked that this one almost used ammo all of the same weight! That is so important. (I understand that sometimes you are forced to use whatever you can get)
Almost anyone who shoots alot has seen for themselves that different brands of ammo will shoot differently but THIS test really proves it!👍 That fact still amazes me, even after hundreds of thousands of rounds, how a different brand can hit well off of a zeroed center but still post a perfect group! 👌
My Model 70 with Hornady red tip 130 grainers is a laser.
THIS was a really fun video! I sincerely appreciate all of the time, hard work, effort, planning & expense that you incur making all of these videos. Thank you! 🙏

Thank you for that terrific .270 video.
Your video right now is the best rifle, ballistics, sighting in video I've seen, bar none.
Man you went right at it.
Years ago,I was going on my first
elk hunt in Colorado with two business friends.
    I bought a Remington 700 ADL in
.270 Winchester in the black laminate camouflage.
I read all of Jack O'Connor books and Jim Zumbos "Hunt Elk" and a host of others.
I had already known about the Premium bullets.
I chose a Nikon Monarch scope in 3X9 power.
I bought the Nikon over the Leupold due to the Nikons better clarity AND lighter field of view.
I figured the Nikon would give me 15 minutes more shooting time.
Couldn't afford Zeis or Swarovski at the time.
The Winchester "Fail Safe" bullets were out then and I thought I'd buy then along with Federals .270.
I took them to the rifle range where they had targets out to 300 yards.
I did the same thing you did here.
The Federal grouping was like your Winchester 130X first time, bullet holes all touched.
    DAMN was I impressed.
    The "Fail Safes" crapped out.
Now,I let the rifle breathe for a good 30 minutes to cool.
Didn't matter. The bullet holes were widely gapped with no 2 close.
    I couldn't believe it.
This was Winchesters own rifle and own ammo.
    What gives?
I double checked all screws on the Leupold Dual Dovetails and mount, but none were loose.
I fired again getting the same results.
    I was really bummed out.
Even imagining the size of the elks lung kill zone over these bullets, no way I could see bringing the Fail Safes to Colorado.
The end of that story was I saw raghorn young bulls, cows but not one shooter.
Fritz blew a 75 yard first day shot at a good bull with his .340 Weatherby that he bought off Paul, our fellow elk hunter.
Fritz had never shot any caliber higher than his Dads .35 Marlin here in Pennsylvania.
Paul blew a 150 yard shot at a bull first day also.
    Neither saw another shooter.
When I came home I told the story to the owner of the store I bought the scope and ammo from.I knew him well and thought he would have a good reason the Fail Safes performed so miserably.
I'm sure you all know what he told me.
"Some rifles LOVE this bullet, and scatter others".
Fail Safes disappeared from the market and I know why.
But thank you for doing this video so now I know the best .270 bullet to use.

While you didn't test my ammo of choice, this was an EXCELLENT video WTW! 👍
It was VERY interesting that your 'zero ammo' yielded the worst results! It just proves the hot barrel thing. As we all know, for hunters this is irrelevant since the cold shot should be the kill shot. As far as we benchrest/target shooters go - different story.
After 3 shots my muzzle loader goes away irregardless of barrel temperature. A good cleaning brings it right back. Great video Adam!

Model 77's are not known for accuracy. I had a couple of them. Sure, they shot pretty good, but they are far from tack drivers. Sierra Game King. Used to reload.270. My son and I used to compete at 200 yards back in the day. Actually both rifles, Remington 700 stock, had cheap cheap Tasco 3x9x40 mounted. Somewhere here in my junk there are several $.25 coins with 3 hits on them at 200 yards. The ammo was very meticulously made- down to hand dropping individual grains of powder onto not your average balance scale. Brass was measured in all dimensions. Bullets were weighed and separated into closet weight groups. That was literally 25 years ago. I'm serious as heck here- 3 shots in a penny at 100 was easy. BUT, I KNOW YOU ARE SHOWING FACTORY STUFF HERE. And my comments aren't relevant but letting people know the .270 is a very fine all around caliber. I've even down loaded them and used lead balls in the case for squirrels, rabbits, skunks etc to keep the noise level down and just something to play with. Enjoy your vids a lot. One beautiful rifle you have there.

I'm gonna assume the double tap and the winchester super x 130gr are gonna be top contenders.. they performed well back in my factory ammo using days👍

In my Sako .270 I am loading Nosler 130 gr Partition bullet. For deer hunting and wild boars, this is the bullet only type I ever used! The combination works really well. I will send you my score card as soon as I get some large bore primers and can do my first set of reloading!

I was recently surprised in my Rem. 700 .270 by the Winchester “Deer Season XP” ammo (130 gr.). It shot a best group of 0.625” from not the most stable of rests. You’re right about pricing. That ammo was not the cheapest I tested, but it was on the lower end at $38.99/box. That’s a pretty rifle.

It's kind of funny on the hot barrel thing. A major barrel maker thought that the biggest reason the groups grow is because of the heat mirage off the barrel. It makes sense. I reload but it's nice to see a factory ammo comparison. It's a crap shoot whether store bought ammo will shoot good. I like 5 shot groups to get a better idea. I just started reloading for a new 270 I just purchased and am shooting 130 grain Hornady SST's. They shoot good for deer hunting purposes, but I was disappointed they are not all that concentric, and the tips were deformed in packaging. I will be looking for Sierra game changer bullets, or some Berger game bullets in the future. I am far better than buying and testing factory loads with what I have even though I want better. Nice video.

That Federal 130gr. is what I've been using the last few years. It's put the last 3 deer on the receiving end of it in the dirt. I like to sight mine in a little high at 100 yds. so I can reach out a little further.

The venerable .270WIN. Responsible for promoting deer to Venison for a century and counting. One of the best all around cartridges to this day. At 100 yards, they all group within a minute of deer. I run 130gr for mulies and wifey runs 150s for elk.

Winchester 130 and 150 grain were in my Remington. I ran the 150’s up front and the 130’s behind. I wanted to be on the bullseye when the yardages moving faster and further with the faster 130.

I just bought my first 270 last week a Browning x bolt 22in barrel and so I bought some various brands of ammo to test mostly 130 an 140 grain in Hornady Super performance and Seira Game King boat tail so I'm looking forward to sighting in a new Leupold VX 3HD 3.5x10x40 Twilight Hunter with 30mm Browning rings. My setup was to have a light weight hunter with a champion cartridge. I suppose this is my Christmas gift so Merry Christmas to all the gun guys out there and to WhoTee Who🦉🦌

I like the 130 and 150 Remington corelokts with the round soft point not the pointed. If found that did best on white tail under 200 yards because it tends to smack harder and does more damage and not over penetrate like the PSP. PSP tends to just poke a hole through with very little damage..
Lol that you get what you pay for is shot out the water because your cheapest did better than double tap.
20 dollar a box and less bullets kill just as dead as 40 to 100 dollar a box bullets.

For practical hunting distances the round nose version is deadly. No need for this ballistic co-efficient crap. People feed off bull shit hunting distances.

I hunt with a 270. I’ve shot Winchester Supreme, Federal, Hornady and some of mine own reloads. All in 130 grain bullets. The reloads do better with both accuracy and kill power than anything I’ve shot. Both in my Winchester 700 and my Ruger American. To truth of the entire thing is that any of the available 270 ammo is accurate enough and more than capable of taking down deer, hogs, or what ever. The shot placement is the biggest variable in most cases. Also that first shot out of a cold bore is what you get when hunting....
