This was one of the more emotional moments of graduation for me. The guidon, our identity, our greatest symbol of both individuality and teamwork for the past 3 months, being handed off and carried away, never to be seen again.

Still gives me chills seeing the “Retire the guidon “ ceremony. Not to mention that the band chorus for it is probably my favorite next to the Marines’ hymn and only second to the National Anthem.

That song is called "National Emblem" or "National Emblem March" by Edwin Eugene Bagley.

Even though the SC ruled it's okay to walk on, rip up, or burn our flag, it's comforting to know there are soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines of both genders who will die for it.

Not just military in 2020 I truly believe we will have to fight in the near future to take back our country and turn it to freedom and God.

I’m here to learn about guidons. I have to admit, I’ve never really understood the screaming in the face, scowling looks etc. I mean no disrespect. I am proud of our military!
Dad is a great man, Army, Korean Conflict, 50-54. He never screamed or raised his voice to anyone. He looked at me, raised his hand, like “stop.” I knew what that meant!!
Could you stand perfectly still, as an irate, untamed angry man hits you in the face, in front of your wife, and everyone in the stands at a softball game? My dad did. He didn’t raise one hand, say one word. Dad turned, took his wife’s hand (my darling mom) helping her off the bleachers and spoke to me “get in the car, daughter.” He tamed his tongue and never cursed, not once! Dad had the strength of ten thousand horses!! Why am I talking to a group of soldiers I’ll never meet?? I suppose I’m missing my dad.

Yeah he didn’t scream and yell at Anyone out of the service because that isn’t his job. The screaming and yelling is part of training to stress you out and get use to loud noises and also be good at communication when loud ass sounds are going off... war isn’t quiet you know.

    • @LouieNeira
      @LouieNeira Год назад

The screaming in the face and “shark attacks” are meant to condition the recruit to focus and follow orders under extreme conditions (which is what happens during war).
As for guidons, they identify the platoon, company, or battalion. This is a carryover from when units weren’t able to communicate their locations to their field commanders. The platoon guide is an honorary position and designates the lead recruit.
PS… Marines do NOT like to be referred to as soldiers.

Kind of an unusual combination with the campaign covers and the dress blues in my opinion. If it was the deltas then it would be good since the top is khaki. I thought they faded those out like in the early 90s.

The following is what is being said when retiring the Platoon Guideon time with the music (4/4 time)
      1. Ex
      2. Change
      3. Guideon
      4. Take
      5. Guideon (and cut)
      6. Post
      7. March
Time may have changed a little, but this is what was said during my time on the Drill Field.
      Hope that helps?
