Can GCI Defeat RMC?!?

  • Both RMC and GCI are top tier coaster companies in their own ways, but does GCI have what it takes to push RMC out of the spotlight? The answer is more nuanced than you might expect at first glance!
    I've had this one cooking for quite a while, so I hope you enjoy!

    I think titan track will win eventually, just because it is cheaper to maintain. This means more smaller parks will be able to get a good coaster with low maintenance costs at a relatively cheap price. If GCI makes the infinity flyers as weld free and easy to maintain as possible, titan track will be a major hit.

    They seem to be trying not to compete with RMC. If you want a complete makeover you go to RMC. If you want to use Titan Track as a fix for the worst parts of your woodie, you go to GCI. They seem to be positioning it as the more conservative option, that a coaster that has Titan Track is still, basically, a woodie--that's the case even with Zambezi Zinger, which is a ground-up project. It's a different niche: they're competing more with Gravity Group's prefab woodie retracking projects (which promise to give you the effect without going to steel at all) than with RMC. Whether there's enough of a market there, I don't know.

    • @StationWait

    • @airbus7373
      @airbus7373 Год назад +3

      Yeah, those full overhauls would probably be similar to Zambezi Zinger. They would probably do a regular retrack on most of the coaster, with titan track used to add inversions or other elements not done traditionally on woodies and patch up the rough spots. Always great to see a new take on a wooden coaster

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin Год назад +3

      The other thing I didn't realize when I wrote this comment is that RMC now offers the overhaul-lite touchup too ("208 ReTraK"), they already did it to a ride or two at Silverwood, and they're doing it to Mine Blower at Fun Spot Kissimmee. Mine Blower was a Gravity Group ride--one thing that's clear in all this news is that loyalty to the original manufacturer doesn't count for anything in this biz.
      RMC also did this early on with Topper Track, tried it with SFNE's Cyclone before it got the full RMC treatment to become Wicked Cyclone, but the spot Topper Track refurbishments didn't seem to work out all that well.

  • @mithramusic5909

But steel track keeping the same design as the wooden track at a much cheaper cost seems like a very promising option, because it can help parks that DON'T want to convert their older wooden rides. GCI should show that they can also re-profile the layout like RMC. That's the weakest point of GCI compared to RMC imo.

Founder Fred Grub envisioned it as a possible way to save money by using less supports by spanning longer distances, but I just don't think it works out in that anything they're saving in supports is being absorbed into that massive track, and then some.

    I honestly think GCI is in for an uphill battle with Titan Track. Simply because everyone knows what they're getting with an RMC. They literally haven't built a "Bad" roller coaster. They're also popular with enthusiasts and the GP. The new 208 seems to be an evolution of Topper Track. I think things would have been different if GCI had Titan Track developed and ready when RMC wasn't doing Topper Track refurbishments. But now that things have settled down I think it might be a bit late. Honestly why would Hershey take a risk with GCI if they know what they're getting with RMC? It's really a no-brainer.

    Except….. good quality track manufacturers dont put other good quality track manufacturers out of business. You just did a whole video proving that.
    If it’s about competing for “who gets to make it into a hybrid….” GCI seems to charge too much money and hasn’t ever done an entire layout. Seems to settle the debate right there.
    Also, when asked about the T-Rex track, this guy essentially said “yeah we have it, but no one wants it so….”

    • @StationWait
      @StationWait  Год назад

      Good manufacturers put people out of business all the time whether they be bad or good, but this video isn’t about putting them out of business it’s about becoming the dominant manufacturer in the space.
      GCI is currently in talks to do a full hybrid retracking of wildcat at lake Compounce as well as the ground up in Europe that Clair mentioned in the video, so give them time.
      It’s not that no one wants a T-Rex, they just want to explore the upper limits of the raptor first. Scott and I had discussed these questions the day before, and it didn’t come through as much on camera as it had then sadly

    never RMC Is 100% better the GCI. GCI can't even make a WHOLE coaster with it's titan track. So I don't see GCI ever taking over RMC

  • @Whatchamawhozit

    SUcks about WIldcat... I think it would have been great for CGI to re-track their first coaster instead Hershey went with RUin My coaster corporation to completely gut it and IMHO destroy it.
    I have tried TT on Boulder Dash it really helped the roughness of the drop, and right now with Lightning rod being switched to over 50% IBOX RCDB has reclassified it as a Hybrid.
    So far I like Titan Track because it allows me to still ride coaster I enjoyed, RMC coasters do not accommodate has puffier people and untilt hey do I have no love for any coaster company that excludes people based on size. I am not asking them to accomodate 600lb people, but us 6'2" 300lb people can't enjoy an RMC... Boooooooooooooooooooooo

    Besides the track tech, a lot of it comes down to the design of the coaster that will determine how successful they will be. I've never been a big fan of the GCI cyclone style and havent been impressed with Skylines stuff, either. Much preferring old PTC designs to newer woodies. Whereas RMC has really changed coaster design forever with the elements and forces they have put on thier rides.

    • @StationWait
      @StationWait  Год назад

      Titan track is able to do insane elements, it’s just a matter of someone giving GCI the chance like RMC got with Texas Giant. We’ll see if that happens

    Darien lake being my home park might be bias but I think it could, but I think it will be used more for select rides that have a good layout and just needs to be smoothed out. If it has a bad layout I think RMC will still be the choice. Think both company’s will find there own niche because both make great products
