Awesome episode, for someone who also grew up in rural Taranaki this hits home. On another note, when are we getting and episode on Dj Ron? I would love to know his story!
Being from Perth and the same age as Tali, it's really interesting comparing timelines and remembering the tours that rolled through our part of the world around the mid 90s. Also your interest in hearing how jungle and dnb reached some of the most isolated places on the planet. For Perth we always have had a massive English population and with that came the music. So we had DJs coming through in the early 90s that were playing that broken beat hardcore sound that became jungle and how the DJs loved it out here. Then stories of bukem meeting Greg Packer and booking him for gigs in the UK and then going on to sign his music. One of many cool stories that could be told.
Who would’ve imagined that this music genre crafted in bedrooms in the UK would reach, influence and draw from those inspired on the opposite side of the World.
Great conversation. Even though i know T fairly well I didn't really know about her early years in NZ or how she got into DnB in the first place. I've always admired Ts creative energy and her ability to recreate herself authentically. That really came out in your conversation. That and her honesty😂. Anyone who knows T knows that she is always honest and speaks her mind. Keep up the good work Ron.
We need somebody to do a Ron interview! And a Remarc, Noise Factory, Shut Up And Dance (!), Rob Haigh aka Omni Trio, LTJ Bukem (!) and that guy who ran and sold the Yaman Tapes
@@mcconrad9223 Oh, I didn´t know this, my sincere condolences. Just bought some Yaman´s of a geezer online (the Bukem Hardcore 9 &10, you surely remember those)who said he knew him and we obviously started chatting about the topic. Would´ve been interesting to hear his stories. But while you are here, it would be more than interesting to hear your story Conrad!
@LondonSomething1994 Exactly. That's what I love about the podcast. You have lots of big names from the "golden era" of jungle, but bring through talented artists from different parts of the scene and let them tell their stories. Whoever the guests are, we are learning something new. Keep it up. Personally, I thought Tali's story was fascinating and a testament to the power of the music and her own strength of character. That Jungle could inspire someone to move to the other side of the world and forge a career in the scene is pretty incredible. So thanks for bringing that to us Ron
@@richardterry9729 soo true, it don't matter if your famous everyone has a story to tell and I really enjoyed this one (and others) as much as the legends!
I think you've got the wrong podcast. Go look at the other guests. Plenty of true veterans, DJs & MCs. And it's good to represent talent through the different eras. Jungle, DnB is not static, there's got to be evolution.
@@pauly44loveyoucome on man, are you saying that Goldie, Mickey Finn, Hype, Nicky Blackmarket, Rap, Fabio, Eastman, Kenny Ken, Ragga Twins who Ron has interviewed are not the foundation of the scene? Your comment sounds quite insulting to the other people who are just as much a part of the scene than just the names that you know personally. I know Tali personally and I can tell you now fella that she is continually contributing to the scene, and scene that was incredibly male dominated at the time when she started making traction at Full Cycle with Roni Size. There are many artists in the DnB scene that definitely do it through a labour of love, rather than chasing the money. I don't think you've got any idea how important all of the producers, djs, MCs, promoters, radio station owners, labels are to the scene as a whole. They all make the scene what it is today regardless of whether you know them or not. I've been a supporter of the DnB dance music scene since 90, and I'm just as interested to hear about people I didn't know anything about. That is what makes Ron's podcast interesting. It's rich and full of diversity, which is a reflection of the DnB scene in my opinion. That is it's strength, unlike other genres which have unfortunately been driven by money, and frankly lost sight of their roots and identity. Ron is keeping it real.
