For a pond filter UV is standard to control Spring/Summer green water issues, my outdoor and quite powerful unit does a fantastic job on my heavily stocked goldfish pond. Within two days the strong filtration and sponges with the UV clear the pond every April/May, without UV the green water largely evades the sponge material.
I use a Fluval in-line (only 3 watts) on my 200 litre tank, but for pathogen control not algae control. My local tropical fish shop does not quarantine stock before sale and I also keep Black Mollies. I think (no stronger than think) my in-line UV has been effective in controlling white spot with newly acquired Black Mollies and I have not had Neon Tetra disease since using in-line UV, though ironically in the last few years I stopped keeping Cardinal Tetras or Neon Tetras as I find their high colouration a tad too much in a fully planted tank.
I have never had green water issues with an aquarium with or without UV treatment. I once cleaned a friend's tank with terrible green water, it received lots of direct sunlight and the filter was tiny and so clogged it was no longer effectively turning over the water volume, the tank had no floating plants and no CO2 system.
Don't know if that helps address the bigger picture ref. UV systems but what I would say is all reputable dealers in the fish trade use UV, partly because of multi-tank single system filtration. Obviously UV does not treat an ill-fish, it simply stops a widespread contagion developing. But then bottled white spot treatments interrupt the pathogen life cycle, they don't cure the infected fish.

I have 3 tanks that have large canister filters running 18w UV lights in each and for the life of me I can't tell they really do anything versus my other 3 tanks without.

Yeah the more reading I did about UV wavelength the less convinced I washed that anything available to hobbyists has much benefit. The huge units operating in public aquaria seem to operate at a totally different level from my recollection of my research. Cheers for watching mate, feel like you've been properly bingeing my content lately! 👍 👍

100% correct. Aquael Mini UV only emits UVA. Tried it for months, air hose outta silicone set on Biofilm in 2 Days but only on hose running through lamp. There should be NO Biofilm if as Aquael say that UVA is broken by water into UVC. Would be nice but save your money for a real UVC Unit. Feel free to correct me, thats my 4 Month observation

this product does not work. water must be exposed to UV light for a few seconds. In this case it does not have time to do its work

will it fit on the outlet of the jewel tank? I have a LIDO 200, cant seem to get the water clear. Constant algae bloom small particle suspension and no its not near a light source. I have had tanks all my life. i think its this filter, so would this UV light fit on the outlet?

Nothin other for us who have many small 10- 20 Liter Tanks. Betta ❤ like me for example. But good water regime is the key. Great Channel, great Tanks, saw only one vid and subbed 👍🔝

It does. And is exactly like you said.
For small Tanks ( 10-20 L.) as a little extra love for the animals. In no Way can you do less water changes. I also desinfect my fresh Remineralized Osmosis Water with a 11 Watt UVC Light for general desinfection before water changes.

Did you do any water tests before/after? I'm curious if the uv unit can help with cl2 problems

    • @AquariumShed
      @AquariumShed  3 года назад +1

Hi Marijke - I didn't I'm afraid. It's not a problem I suffer with so it didn't occur to me. Sorry about that. Like I said in the video, my main concern is that there is no information about the wavelength of this unit which leaves me suspicious as to whether it is truly powerful enough. You need pretty high intensity UV to treat chlorine, so I wouldn't be confident that this unit would be a solution. Sorry I can't be of more help. 👍

It doesn't work. The plastic cover won't let UVC through. It's been tested and compared with another model here ruclips.net/video/86erPOGewF8/видео.html. I'm disappointed as I wanted to buy it.

Sure Mate?? Try it on a milky Tank. I was surprised too as Aquael is a polish Company with a few shoddy products wich i say cause they have a Ask us adress but dont answer.
Ever. Its LED UVA, which is broken in Water to a wavelength between UVB and UVC. Check out University of Tel Aviv 2010-11 Tests on that. Quite good for water treatment. Sadly the Green Killing Machine is not available in the Mini Version. And since you have to ditch the light after 1 year, 100€ for the bigger one, or next smallest dont cut it with many small Tanks. Industry really has to adapt to small Tanks.

@@berndmayer1765 Yup 100%. The mini doesn't work and I know it's a Polish company cause im Polish😁. You need quartz glass cover not an acrylic one for uvc to work.

I know. Its UVA LED. But read the studys of the University of Tel Aviv from 2010 and 11 about UVA LED wavelength break through water. It comes out in a wavelength between UVB and UVC, quite usefull for water sanitization they concluded. Sorry that i cant give you a Link. I dont want to rip polish jokes here like why to always take 2 cars when going to Poland. Tak, they have shady buisness tactics like their " ask us " webadress which noone ever got a answer. But wouldnt it be straight illegal to claim a products impact if its a lie in the EU?? Kurvamash ( spelling?) its the same LEDS used in their internal Filters. But to buy one from SunSun for a Betta Tank would whirl him around like in a washing machine and the 3W INTERNAL UVC MINI GREEN KILLING MACHINE from AA is not even to be found on eBay. If you know someone....please contact me.
Check the vid from the french Chick who tested it 5 Days on a totally milky Tank! Sorry no link either but easy to find. Would like to hear your opinion on that!
