Group B strep (GBS) testing in pregnancy is one of the most important tests we can do to ensure a baby stays healthy in that first week of life. By identifying who is colonized with GBS, we can start antibiotics in labor and reduce the risk of neonatal sepsis (a life threatening blood infection in babies). GBS is not an STD and around 25% of all pregnant patients are colonized with this bacteria. In this video, I discuss why we test for GBS, when we test for GBS, and how we treat it. As with every video, I try to feature some of the scenery from Washington State--this one is shot at Lake Chelan. If you have a topic you want discussed, leave me a note in the comments.
Good evening Dr. Navi heshmati so mothers with positive group b strep should not be worried about it during labor? It can be pass to a baby right is it dangerous to a baby health if ever?
I like this video you legit explain everything so well and broke it down to where I’m not worried anymore. Thank you so much!
What about if your water brakes and no time for antibiotics?
