Brilliant idea and finally solved an issue I couldn’t get my head around . Just got this table saw which is brilliant apart from the height of the riving knife . No good for splines in frames and boxes so will wait until evolution bring out their new improved version .
I did mine today. Just to paint it tomorrow. My blade drilled no problem so either my drill was better or my blade was softer. I tried it out and it works perfectly. Thanks for a great video and keep them coming as these are the videos that saves us all money. I also made the zero clearance plate that I saw on casual DIY. I made it out of mango wood as I dont have a printer. I made the same type of jig that fits in the mitre slot for testing the alignment of the blade and fence, but I got the clock gauge from temu. Thanks again.
Brilliant, Dean. How I envy you bright fellows who can improvise and improve. That's a cracking fix. You know, things always go better with a blow torch. As I said last time, I may ask Santa for a 3d printer just so I could make throat plates for all my saws.
Hi, just done this on my saw a Clarke CTS14, I sorted some 2mm steel only to find the adjustment slot on the riving knife only needed lengthening by 6mm, ten minutes job & the guard works perfectly and only needs removing occasionally.
Nice 1 Dean! DIY riving knife beats no knife. My Rage 5 knife is set to the lowest height due to a stripped positioning bolt. Sigh. Occasionally the wood will catch on the knife and require a reposition though the saw. Makes it easy to cut dados but the guard doesn't play nice anymore, so there's that. Tool & shop safety at all times. Take care & stay safe.
Personally, I always use the crown guard when possible, and when doing non -through cuts, the riving knife has no function anyway. What's really needed is a quick release and refit mechanism. I enjoyed the video. Thanks for sharing it.
Like the video and as alway it gives me food for thought. I am thinking about doing the same and wondering. You said you would soften the blade with heat prior to drilling, but will this not cause the blade to warp.
I get where your coming from with the safety facter thats why I carnrt get my head around the fact that these new hand held circular don't have riving knives which I think every saw should have them
Well done. I solved it by buying from evolution another riving knife and cutting it. It’s 15 pounds and this way you keep the original intact. Your work was great but very time consuming I must say and for the few quid extra maybe not worth it for me. Still , well done. Great saw
Hi Dean, Great idea, making a riving knife out of an old saw blade, and it's good steel to use. How did you get on with the old table saw, did you manage to find a reversed thread nut. As always a great video, catch you soon Take care
Just got the this table saw and my first thought was exactly the same.....why is it not just below the teeth level? Evolution says it will be in the New Year so have to wait until then to replace my old table saw 😢
I’d be very wary of using those thin 1mm angle grinder blades to cut curves. They’re very likely to grab & explode, which is not at all nice. e. Use a 2.5 mm cutting blade at the very least.
Just got this saw and the rack and pinion fence is really stiff . It is unlocked and I haven’t used it since it’s not sawdust build up. Can anyone suggest a fix ?
This is such an annoyance for me on an otherwise great saw. I just got a 3d printer but am a total noob so I'd be very interested in your zero clearance efforts (files would be great, please.) Best regards, Neil
TOP TIP: when squirting with WD40 or any spray can really, dont get it close to a running motor as you can potentially cause a very nasty explosion. I did this once and lost my eyebrows and fringe and had tinnitus for a week, but it could have been much worse.

clever solution, Dean, well done!

first thing i did when i got my DeWalt table saw a few years back. great vid
Great work Dean. That looks really slick. Great work.
Excellent knife and I can see a lot more being made with evolution taking so long to release their version and zero clearance!
Great idea using the old blade Dean.

Bravo Sir! Regards JP
Thanks!
Stock riving knife is 1.8mm thick (it is etched on the side). I made one from 2.5mm stainless steel sheet to use non-evolution blades.

Interesting video as ever Dean. I was interested in the 3d printed zero clearance plate. Did you print it in 2 parts?

Deffo relieve the leading edge. Quite annoying when the chunk of tree you are cutting jams into the sharp edge.

I don't know about your situation but I bought a can of spray dry lube with silicone and spray all the threads about once a month.
Dodgey you noooooo bahahahahaha 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Evolution have a new riving knife on there web site for £20
Good good 👍
