You mean if people would of changed the oil like they were supposed to, that's the problem with them. The same heads and phasers are used on the 4.6 mustangs but people usually take care of sports cars so the issue isn't as notorious. People buy trucks and don't put the 5w20 oil in it because "that's to thin i'm going to put 10w40 in my truck" and "It's a truck i'll beat on it and drive 30k miles between oil changes."

My dad had an 08 when I was younger. He hated it, however from the way he describes it, I would say it was assembly error. The truck would shut off on him at random while he was driving, leaving him stranded. It would leave him stranded in the walmart parking lot sometimes, and this was all while the vehicle was still under warranty mind you. From my understanding, he took it to the Ford dealer to get it sorted out, and they never managed to fix it correctly. He actually never had a problem from the 5.4 engine it had surprisingly enough, considering everyone jabs at those every chance they get. He later traded it in for a 2012 and was very happy with that truck. While my father didn't like his 11th gen F150, I know a guy who has one and is still driving it to this day, and he seems pretty happy with it. And I still see a good number of these here in Upstate NY, which is pretty good considering the fact that this generation of truck is nearly 2 decades old

1:05 This is the exact same 2004 FX4 that I drive currently. Same color, same rims etc. 171,000 without major problems. The right exhaust manifold, front coil springs, and a bad driveshaft have been the only big issues in the past 12 years (2nd owner). I use Mobil 1 in everything I own btw, big and small.
I replaced the faded door handles, fender well trim, bed rail trim and rear bumper trim with the same black plastic parts because the rest of the truck still looks that good. Updated (and rewired) with OEM 2014 side mirror assemblies.
Bilstein 5100 shocks front and rear along with Moog "81118" front coil springs made a massive improvement. (Set the adjustable front 5100's in the center for best results with the Moog 81118's btw)

And this is the thing people dont realize. When I got my 5.4 3V, I didnt notice how many of these trucks were on the road and now that I drive them, I'd see about 20 a day. I even talk with these Triton owners and talk about all the issues they have and we laugh about it. The engine might be bad if not taken care of but these trucks are still working. They aren't mall crawlers like many of the newer trucks you see on the road today. When I see them, they are hauling and labeled with what ever company owns them. Sure many are still not used as work trucks but we see them doing everything.
What I want to see is how well the Triton 3V holds up in lighter trucks, like a 2022 F-150 which weights much less than my 07. Very good trucks AND they are still lookers with insane aftermarket support. I really wish Ford would bring back this body style.

GM were just about finishing their own GMT900 interior design proposals for 2007 in secret at this time, while their current GMT800 had been eclipsed by this new truck and the 2004 Titan LE. It was actually slower than the previous (1997 - 2003) F-150's. This generation went from a 5.4L 2v to a 5.4L 3v design which actually gained it about 40hp and 15ftlbs of peak torque, but this generation also went from an open C-Channel frame to a fully boxed frame and gained about 1000lbs in total curb weight on average which completely negated the power increase for the 2004 model year. The 1997 - 2003 F-150's with the 5.4L 2v would regular do 0-60 in mid 8 second range which is blazing fast but for that time it was plenty quick and competitive for a full size pickup.

The engine wasn't really lazy, it was on par with everything else at the time except the new for 2003 5.7L Hemi's that made 45hp more. The 5.4L made very similar power to the 5.6L used in the Nissan Titans at the time and outpowered the 5.3L GM trucks by a significant portion, in particular in low end torque. The real issue with this generation F-150 was it's curb weight and wide gear spacing in it's 4-Speed auto. The Hemi and 5.6L Titan's had the benefit of 5-Speed transmissions with closer ratios and while the Silverado's at the time we're still using a 4-Speed like the F-150 they we're also about 700lbs lighter than a comparable F-150 at the time. High curb weight plus wide spaced 4-Speed auto is what really killed this trucks performance. When they went to a 6-Speed auto in 2009 the 5.4L woke up significantly, but only continued on for two model years with the 6-Speed before it was replaced by the much more powerful 5.0L V8, Ecoboost and 6.2L V8.
