Truckin for 23 years And you never heard of anyone doing this And you think maybe there's a reason for that. Lol being an old geezer doesn't make it worth a dollar. I couldn't even watch this whole thing LOL. MAYBE you should just turn your hearing aid up.
Thank you for your video I used 6 soapy bottles trying to find an air leak the problem was I didn’t hear any leaks then after watching a video I used the hose but still there was no luck I was loosing all my 120 psi in 6h there was a big leak somewhere but I couldn’t find it until I raised my leveling valve and sprayed again the soapy water on my airbags just like you did in the video and I heard the leak!!! For some reason it wasn’t bubbling or anything it was very quiet leak now I know two of my drive air bags are leaking and thanks to you Gordon I found the problem and will fix it before they explode !!!
For the love of god lol, get an empty windex bottle and fill with dawn dish soap and water and start spraying air lines and air bags watch for bubbles as you do it
Thanks for the video! It’s cool to see how you check for leaks. I will remember that if there’s ever a time when I don’t have soapy water on hand. I did notice that your rear torque arm looked pretty worn. Just an observation that is often over looked. I love your videos and I’ve learned a lot from you. Thanks sir!
Had those FLD dashes apart many times. Always hated the fiber optic light cables. Used to get a lot of leaks at 5th wheel slide switches. Great content 👍
First of all I would like to say thank you sir for making this kind of educational videos. Second every time I watch your video's there is always something good in it and educational. so please keep making this videos it helps a lot thank you once again.
I just did the parking brake valves in the cab on the 05 Vision. Oh my goodness!! That was a JOB! No room to work at all! What I thought was going to take a couple hours ended up being an all day job. Had to cut a bit of metal out of the dash to get the hoses off and back on. I hope God can forgive me after that job. 😂 That was worse than moving hogs! 😉 Great video!
@@GordonRobertsonDIY I usually use a long screwdriver for mechanical issues, to my ear, same principal, but flexibility seems a much better option. Thanks
Nice work sir I’m working now on my truck doing what your doing and needed som more wisdom 😊 and thank you for your video I found it 👍 Have a bless day
Gordon, what I do is unhook your leveling valve and extend the bags and spray good with soapy water and you should see the bubbles if they are leaking.
Right, but there's a lot of hidden areas throughout the truck for an air leak to hide. If you have good hearing and a quiet place to work, the hose is a lot cleaner and covers a lot of ground and can probe where you can't see. Thanks for watching.
Apply kid’s bubble making solution . DD-13 / 15 engines remove the supply air hose from the engine air intake pipe to the air compressor . Listen for air back feeding through this hose from the air compressor .
I found mine on the top of the transmission and was a bugger to get to through the shifter hole. I never thought of using a hose. That is a good idea As always a good video!!
I have a big leak when i press the brakes all the way down...air drops real fast, i already replaced the foot valve n still leaks....i noticeably hear the leak from that check valve that faces the driver side on the front delivery line....any ideas or suggestions?
Hello sir, I got a new air leak. It just started happening, I thought it was coming from the dash valve because that is where it sounds like it is coming from but now I am thinking that it could be anywhere, because I am thinking that if the system is losing air that I would still yet hear the sound of air coming from the dash valve, not sure though, but this I know, when the tractor parking brake is set, it don't leak, also when the tractor's parking brake is released I hear the sound but when I push the service brake to the floor, the noise goes away, any thoughts on that? Also, while driving, the system still stays above 100 psi
All those who say spray foam... I had my freightliner 2017 checked twice with the soap... couldn't find it. Still losing air every day. 3 hours and the piggy is empty. My point, use any method that works to find the leak.
I have one of those spy ear things with the headphones, works pretty darn good for being as cheap as they are but use soapy water most of the time if its not freezing outside :)
it could take a lot of soapy water to find a leak on a truck, some places you can't get to with water like in the frame rails or over the tranny. I use the water to pinpoint once I found something. After driving in the rain I can hear air leaks better.
Having a bad case of tinnitus means I have to go about things a little different in a noisy shop. If it was out on the middle of no where with no noise I would be fine )
The trailer had 2 bags leaking, the shop at my job changed 1 bag and are waiting for another bag to come in to do the other. I'm going to change all 4 bags on my truck when they get here. Are you the guy that saw me at Heidtman a couple weeks ago? the name sounds familiar. Thanks for watching.
Wouldn't soapy water in a spray bottle be easier especially when most leaks you couldn't hear with a stethoscope lol....not picking on ya buddy just trying to speed things up for ya....remember just like checking for leaks in a tire....80-1 soap water ratio lol
I like to start with the process of elimination first set brakes watch gauges then release them watch gauges same with the air bags a d if your losing air only when your under a load thats a 85% chance it’s an air bag 80k pounds tells the truth
really good video my truck doesnt hold air for more than an hour this video gave me a place to start looking.
I have the same problem. Did you end up fixing it?

Totally agree. His method is complete rubbish!
I guess should've read on before posting lol....ya exactly soapy water and a spray bottle just like checking a tire lol
Glad I'm not alone
How does water give an air leak?
Tim Honeycutt if you spray soapy water over the air leak it makes bubbles
A pleasure to watch, and I keep learning too.
Thank you Sir.
If you like get your ear itchy then do it that method checking airleak otherwise use with soapy water. Thanks for sharing anyways..
Soapy water only works one you’ve found where it’s coming from. This is a good trick to find the area of the leak.

lonnie blackwell I have had the last 3 air bags leak around the top plate or bottom plate! Usually I can only find those with a loaded trailer.
Apply kid’s bubble making solution . DD-13 / 15 engines remove the supply air hose from the engine air intake pipe to the air compressor . Listen for air back feeding through this hose from the air compressor .
Maybe the extra load from the weight of the trailer causes the airbag to leak and that's why you only hear it while you are working?
I found mine on the top of the transmission and was a bugger to get to through the shifter hole. I never thought of using a hose. That is a good idea As always a good video!!

You do have check valves though out the system
I agree
My fld is the same way. Scared to work lol. That’s why it leaks at work and not at home lol
I dunk my big truck in a tank of water 6ft high. When I see the air bubbles l jump in the water and find the culprit.
Where does one find this big tank of water

USE A SPRAY BOTTLE WITH SOAP AND WATER, TO FINE A LEAK. SPRAY THE HOSE'S WITH IT LOOK FOR BUBBLES.

William Zoom To get a lot of foam, use a pressure washer with the soap option. I use Palmolive dish soap. You can get a lot of foam!
Can I mirror share your vid on my channel?
sure.
I like that it shows the answer can be found, but it isnt a quick process. No cheat code in real life
This doesn’t sound like a bad idea,,, if you have ever tryed to chase down a leak there are times it seamed to be coming from several different areas
Grate video now i just need the time and patience to do it
