This is by far the best Intro I have ever seen in any WW2 game. Its so brutal, brute, powerfull and in the same time, horrific. World at War will always be a special Game for me. I really hope they remaster it someday. Just imagine coming from BF5 Trailer to this. Fuck the "new", "political correct" narrative. War eats you and spits you out. And thats what you should show.

Hell, Douglas Bader had no legs, and World at War depicts injured soldiers such as Reznov and innumerable wounded Germans being forced to fight. The game wasn’t even realistic in that you don’t shoot children in Berlin, which would portray the true horror of war you claim to want but would also be unacceptable for obvious reasons. The idea women weren’t involved too is simply wrong. Often this ‘political correctness’ is just telling stories that haven’t been told before

I remember either a early CoD or a Medal of Honor that had a section where the player character got off the boat and was given 5 rounds. Not a gun. You were meant to go pick up a gun off a dead comrade that went before you. That opening of that level stuck with me. You can't even give me my own gun? That's how desperate the situation was.

It's not morale but plain hatred, my great grandfather had a complete different outlook on the axis, POW and the world before conscription and at the end when Berlin fell
The Act Man did a great video on this game and he mentioned this. In the beginning you as the player feel patriotic and wanting to get revenge on the germans from the first russian mission, but as it goes on with each mission Resnov's hatred grows more and more. You start seeing more scenes where Russians are showing no mercy to any german soldier, and even pvt. Chernov writes this down in his journal, he questions the morality of what they are doing, if they are being just as monstrous or more than the germans were at that point. In the beginning, you hate the germans, but towards the end you start to feel a little remorse like Chernov after seeing what was going on. In a way the tables turned, from one army being brutal and merciless to the other being brutal and merciless.
Soviet campaigns in every cod game (aside from Vanguard and other modern stuff) are brutal and dark. From Call of Duty to Finest Hour, Call of Duty 2 and World at War. 20 million people alone died in the USSR. It's more than 5 million Jews. Germans tasted the same thing they had done against the Soviet people.
@sniparchomp Activision licensed to publish this game. Treyarch always has the balls to create such dark games, but it conflicts with Activision restrictions. If there is a complaint, both anonymous and governmental, it is managed by Activision. So Activision is most at risk in this story. It gave Treyarch carte blanche, and they released the game.
I love the real footage it adds a little history in the game into it knowing this shit actually happened and wasn’t full of glory but death destruction and horrors these soldiers saw
