I remember playing competitive mode on 3:19 and saw this group of People run to the left side I was like "What the hell are they doin?" So I continued playing the Mission then I hear the raygun noises and green puffs of plasma gas. My first thought was "Oh nah this must be a hack or something " then they lead me over to the Statues and gave me a raygun. Mind you I was like probably 11 or 12 and seeing this for the first time blew my mind
I noticed in CoD MW2 Remastered the mission where you start out in the bunker during the US invasion, in the main room there is a white board with soldiers names and their current status. You can find some of the named soldiers in the bunker being injured and their names on the board with the same designation WIA. This may occur in the classic version as well.
5:20 - That unusual moving soldier, it was always my head canon that it was Vasily Zietsev from Enemy at the Gates, but just before Commissar Danilov crashes his car and crawls into the fountain with him -- since it's the exact same fountain and inspiration, I pictured you and Reznov went one way, and thay moving soldier ended up finding his way out 9f Stalingrad 😅
This game was the hardest platinum trophy I got. The veteran campaign was killer in the last mission. I remember being a teen sweating my ass off upstairs sneaking a Smirnoff 😂
Did you know that you actual shoot Richthofen in that sniper mission with Reznov. Infact all of the 4 main zombie characters are recycled characters from the story mode. Takeo being the soldier who put out a cigar on your face. Dempsey(chernov)being the right hand man in the campaign for the Russians and tank being the main US grunt. Nikoli dies trying to raise the flag etc
Glad you came around and realized none of these games are underrated. Back when this game was popular there just wasnt a way to really share your feelings about it
No, this game was very much panned by its counterparts as a mid-title. Sure, a ton of us kids who grew up with it loved it, but it wasn't as successful or received well critically either. By definition, this game is literally underrated.
As a history student i understood the detail when i played world at war for the first time .Japanese was really in desperate need of soldiers ,so they had to recruit medically unfit soldiers in to the war. It is a really cool detail.
yeah it took me the whole game to get the timing for press V timing melee mini game, when, but in the castle mission (last) some banzai soldiers had glasses as you stab them in neck and was shocked about that.
This game blew my mind when i played the campaign. I had never seen that level of gore in a video game and the mission that begins in a fountain of dead bodies really made a big impression that I still remember it vividly today. Then of course if you sit through the final credits, it introduces the brand new zombie mode. World at War is truly a classic in the franchise.
At 2:40 i think the Japanese soldier scraems "Okasan!!" which means Mother, he's calling for her. Which is really sad. But still i might be wrong, my Japanese isn't that good.
i think you right. its really sad if we think about it, this soldier know he will die when he tried ti charge the bunker, so to brace him self he is calling his mother for the last time.
The amount of attention to detail in this game is crazy. It is many years older than cod ww2 and vanguard but easily the most realistic and accurate one.
@@tramlink8544 I'm pretty sure that had to do with how they definitely based the first mission off of "Enemy at the Gates". Besides, it's still giving an authentic feel even if it isn't accurate.
This game was very underrated when it came out. This game came out one year after the massive success that was COD 4: MW. For people that don't know basically since the first Medal of Honor game released in 1999 the 2000's gaming market was oversaturated with WW2 games. The first 3 Call of Duty games were WW2 games too and COD 4 felt like a breath of fresh air. Even though some successful modern war setting games existed before, COD 4 still felt like the first huge mainstream modern war game and it changed the market. When World At War released many people didn't want to go back to WW2 and didn't buy it. I think many people missed out on one of the best WW2 games ever.
I didn't talk about this game, I didn't google call of duty, this morning I just thought about Call of duty world at war and now I see this video in recommended
There's a couple of things that I saw when replaying the campaign recently. In Black Cats after you've sunk the merchant ships you see in the cut scene a friendly plane gets destroyed in the air after being attacked by the zeros. That plane wasn't shot down, it was sliced by the first zero it encountered. Near the end of the campaign when I was playing on veteran, I think it was the second last level. In the heat of the battle I saw a German soldier hang themselves off of a tree, and it happened more than once.
This is definitely the COD I would choose to remaster next. Between campaign, zombies( still the best collection of maps), and a top 3 multiplayer in the franchise. I would love to see this remastered!!
I recently watched some of the missions from this game on RUclips for the nostalgia and in "Eviction", in the first room you encounter enemies, this is after the scene with the execution of the lone German soldier begging for his life at the beginning, if you hide and don't immediately open fire on them and if you speak German, you can hear them talking about flooding the metro tunnels, which I thought was a cool detail.
7:08 tbh when I played the game last time, I have to say decided that burning to death was way too cruel(maybe because I’m scared of fire but i can’t allow myself to let the Molotovs be thrown, heck I can’t use the flamethrowers without feeling slightly ill. I know it’s a game but I can’t stand even the idea).
there is 1 hidden detail that you miss: in the mission black cat, when you are shooting the planes and rescuing the survivors from ships at the same time, if you manage to rescue about 5 or 6 and so on you will get a congrats from your comrade. but if you rescue less about 1 or 2 you will hear the comrade say that too many kamikaze and couldnt rescue them all.
And that depends on how much damage you do to battleships in the beginning. If you save them for later, you will get more sailors after but if you sink them the first time you will have less.
@@roderickstockdale1678 can you give me more details about this, please? because as I remember correctly, whether you destroy fast or slow battleships, the results wouldn't change much when rescue the sailors.
@@thanhlongvo7092 if you take out some of the stuff on the battleships and leave some for the go around when you rescue the sailors later you’ll get a full five, six of them and if you clear it all on the first run you’ll only grab a couple of them.
I always thought the blood splatter was the pied piper (pipe in one hand and walking stick in the other) as there is a rather famous statue of children at play in the town square - so it symbolizes the loss of innocence in bloodshed.
5:45 me personally before you pointed it out, i thought it looked like a solider holding some sort of rifle, and another (outline cant really be seen) holding the hammer, but not the sickle from the USSR flag, the 'hood' kinda looks a little like a helmet if you look close enough
when I was 10. I played Advanced Warfare's spec ops with my friend. There was a point where you'd have to kill attack dogs. I was sad and hesitant on doing so. Now every time i play a CoD. It's just a part of my mission. But every time i do so I still feel a bit of guilt that can never be healed...
After seeing how much i missed especially the fact i can change the outcome of chernovs journal is enough for me man. My fav cod campaign ever, always looking for a reason to replay
In the Black Cat mission, one of the most unnoticeable detail about that mission is that when you shoot the Japanese ships, it contained multiple prisoners of war who were in an inhuman condition or diseases that were brought from the Unit 731 Experiment. So that means, you also killed friendlies as well.
can't believe Dmitri we saw dying from gas chamber in Black ops is the same Dmitri we played in Waw, such fantastic plot twist make me appreciated older game even more
Its Very Heartwarming that you metion FFOE in this video. A completely underrated and underappreciated Creator and I LOVE his content. His Aesthetics of World at War was my first video and I couldn't stop watching him since. Much Love!
In Vendetta you have infinite ammo, if you run out of bullets in a weapon, Reznov will say “take the shot Dimitry”, and the reserve of the empty weapon will be fully loaded
One detail that I thought was near was the plane that crashed in the beginning of little resistance. During the real invasion of Peleliu, specifically above Beach White 1 where the game takes place, a TBM-1 Torpedo bomber from squadron VT-51 of the Carrier USS San Jacinto and tried dropping ordinance behind the beach. Somehow it's bombs detonated prematurely though and it blew up out of the sky, similar to what we see in the game. Another cool detail is the inclusion of the number 115 in cod lore. This again ties back to the battle of Peleliu in real life, the battle where some of the Marines missions take place in-game. PFC. Eugene Sledge of 5th Reg. 1st Marine Division recalled in his memoir that the temperature soared to 115°F during the battle. This number was later used in the game for element 115 in zombies.
another detail in vendetta is that the knocked out tank in front of the building at the start of the level is a Tiger ll which was not fielded until 1944 long after the battle of Stalingrad and is thus very anachronistic. WaW is an amazing game but it is still not without its flaws.
Yeah, just played this yesterday and that particular set of missions has the "round opening" sting as part of the song. It also plays during the treyarch splash screen when booting up the game, so... maybe it was just their theme before zombies popped off.
i have all the achievements in this game and it was amazing to get as well. The only down side is that. in multiplayer, there was supposed to be camos for the guns
5:09 probably a reference to when vasily zaytsev was playing dead in that same fountain in the movie enemy at the gates, that whole sequence is actually a reference to that movie. One of the coolest parts of the game
You don't need them to. It is still a nice-looking game and perfect as it is. Please don't feed the corporate money hungry machine. You could pick up a 7th Gen console and a copy for just a small amount more than you would pay for a remaster. It is still very much alive and people will play custom matches for less popular game modes.
in the aircraft mission youll notice at the end when youve saved sailors from the water that in the aid compartment of the aircraft there will be however many sailors you saved, lying in the bunks
The one’s where you spare or kill the surrendering soldiers also reflects you characters in the end as Chernov will mention your character Dimitri’s actions and will either call you a hero, evil, or in between
The Natural Hunter line is the one i got in World At War when doing the Vendetta mission, i didn't know there was an alternate line if you are slow, etc.
In HITMAN 3 in the mission of HITMAN 1s campaign "CLUB 27" in the bathroom of your room you will find a scale and if you stand on it it's tells you weigh "47".
My first WW2 shooter game was Medal of Honor: Frontline on PS2. The second game was Call of Duty: BIG RED ONE. One of best missions was the landing on Sizilia with the active Volcano. World at war was the last good WW2 shooter i have played. It was an amazing time. All games i have played several times but i didnt notice the most of this " easter eggs". In this time, it was normal for me that they put this stuff in it because i was so imersed in this games i didnt notice it.
Big Red One had the most personal campaign of any CoD ever in my opinion. The fact you're with the same squad the entire time (albiet in Liberators when you're the main characters brother) is really neat. I love that game and would love to see it remastered.
I Love This Game Ragdoll. One Of The First Ragdoll Games That I've Ever Played. A Combination Of Death Animation And Ragdoll In This Game Is Amazing And Satisfying.
Still my favorite COD. Best campaign, introduction to zombies, and good multiplayer. Just my opinion. If you're a fan of war movies, you will notice a lot of Easter eggs and references.
Interesting details. In chernov's journal he will say different things, and you find this out at the end of the game. If you gave away your position during vendetta, let the German troops bleed out during their land their blood, and shoot the german soldiers, he calls you a hero, do one of these and the rest opposite then he says "maybe a hero doesn't question their actions." Now doing all of them opposite, he calls you a brute like the rest of the red army. (1. Good ending 2. Neutral ending 3. Bad ending) All of these counts as different endings btw
Another neat detail you missed that’s similar to the final Japanese one you mentioned is we see a similar thing with the Germans. They look progressively more beat up as the campaign progresses
Recently got back into this series and its pretty fun replaying some of these games. WaW was one of the first CoD games I got with the other one being the og MW and it was cool seeing what Infinityward and Treyarch could do with these games.

Another important detail is about rescuing injured soldiers in Black cats. If you save them, the crew will say good things about you at the end of the mission. But if you don't, they don't seem to like you very much
I remember playing competitive mode on 3:19 and saw this group of People run to the left side I was like "What the hell are they doin?" So I continued playing the Mission then I hear the raygun noises and green puffs of plasma gas.
My first thought was "Oh nah this must be a hack or something " then they lead me over to the Statues and gave me a raygun.
Mind you I was like probably 11 or 12 and seeing this for the first time blew my mind
I always forget about the comp co-op. Trying to get through on vet even in 4p co-op was HARD...
That is so freaking cool dude
Ooh I like that. That could also explain the soldier moving in the first place. Maybe a reference?
My favorite cod. I remember playing this as a kid and noticing a lot of these details. Such a captivating game.
this cod was my intro into gaming, i ended up playing the campaign so much i could beat it on veteran since i didnt have online multiplayer
This game was the hardest platinum trophy I got. The veteran campaign was killer in the last mission. I remember being a teen sweating my ass off upstairs sneaking a Smirnoff 😂
Glad to hear people are realizing how good WaW was. Definitely my favorite.
Richthofen = General Amsel
Dempsey = Lt. Polonksy
Nikolai = Chernov
Takeo = Japanese Captor
It was underrated relative to MW's overwhelmingly positive reception despite being just as good (if not better)
4:41 Imagine Dimitri doing 360 noscope
This game blew my mind when i played the campaign. I had never seen that level of gore in a video game and the mission that begins in a fountain of dead bodies really made a big impression that I still remember it vividly today. Then of course if you sit through the final credits, it introduces the brand new zombie mode. World at War is truly a classic in the franchise.
I had the PS2 version, which had its own completely original campaign for some reason. Aw the memories.
At 5:00 it’s a reference to a movie called “enemy at the gates”
There's another detail in the 'Black Cats' mission where the sun is slowly rising over the course of the mission
being a ww2 game, i had a very bad joke pop into my head when reading "sun is slowly rising"
~ Here comes the Sun ~

So glad people still talk about this game. One of my favorites growing up.
7:33 Rats?? Rats make me crazy, Crazy? I was crazy once
They put me in a room

Thanks for pointing out the Corporal to Sergeant change I honestly didn’t know that. 👍🏻
Easily one of my favorites and loved the co-op campaign option
The "You are a traitor to the motherland" is actually standard, it's also found in CoD2
Hey its also in Call of Duty 1 and Call of Duty: United Offensive.
for a game that came out in 2008 there's still things I don't know about there's a reason that this game was beloved
6:09 this detail is in call of duty 2 too
The amount of attention to detail in this game is crazy. It is many years older than cod ww2 and vanguard but easily the most realistic and accurate one.
well to be fair they got the uniforms wrong pretty badly, especially the soviets
🤯
9:20 that video was actually what got me back into WaW
There's a couple of things that I saw when replaying the campaign recently. In Black Cats after you've sunk the merchant ships you see in the cut scene a friendly plane gets destroyed in the air after being attacked by the zeros. That plane wasn't shot down, it was sliced by the first zero it encountered. Near the end of the campaign when I was playing on veteran, I think it was the second last level. In the heat of the battle I saw a German soldier hang themselves off of a tree, and it happened more than once.
The blood splatter looked like a boy playing the flute. But that whole fountain makes me think of the starting area in Gorod Krovi still.
5:55 also in the game at some points if you kill a soviet ally, it will say “you are a traitor to your brothers!”
“Black Cats” had one of my favorite soundtracks for a level.. It’s so good!
there is 1 hidden detail that you miss: in the mission black cat, when you are shooting the planes and rescuing the survivors from ships at the same time, if you manage to rescue about 5 or 6 and so on you will get a congrats from your comrade. but if you rescue less about 1 or 2 you will hear the comrade say that too many kamikaze and couldnt rescue them all.
0:28 "Call of Duty Wo'ad'Wo" Very British
5:45
me personally before you pointed it out, i thought it looked like a solider holding some sort of rifle, and another (outline cant really be seen) holding the hammer, but not the sickle from the USSR flag, the 'hood' kinda looks a little like a helmet if you look close enough
when I was 10. I played Advanced Warfare's spec ops with my friend. There was a point where you'd have to kill attack dogs. I was sad and hesitant on doing so. Now every time i play a CoD. It's just a part of my mission. But every time i do so I still feel a bit of guilt that can never be healed...
World at War is like a top 3 WW2 game as a whole, game was so good.
Troll
5:09 might be an Enemy at the Gates reference
can't believe Dmitri we saw dying from gas chamber in Black ops is the same Dmitri we played in Waw, such fantastic plot twist make me appreciated older game even more
yeah the reznov missions in black ops, has reznov and dmitri, and reznov's vendetta continues after the ship level
I always thought the double barrel thumb hold was cool when it first came out.
6:53 i have to agree with reznov t h
That's... very detailed
"You did all that with just a knife? Remind me to never piss you off"
Not World At War, but my favorite detail in Cold War
I love these Easter eggs. They show me what I missed in games that I played
another detail in vendetta is that the knocked out tank in front of the building at the start of the level is a Tiger ll which was not fielded until 1944 long after the battle of Stalingrad and is thus very anachronistic. WaW is an amazing game but it is still not without its flaws.
soviet uniforms were pretty bad too, adn the mosin nagant was the shorter M44 not the full length 91/30
at around 7:14 I swear I heard the round opening for zombies, might just be me
Me too
Yeah, just played this yesterday and that particular set of missions has the "round opening" sting as part of the song. It also plays during the treyarch splash screen when booting up the game, so... maybe it was just their theme before zombies popped off.
WaW had to be my favorite. Stuck in my head so much over the years. A classic. That and Big Red One
i have all the achievements in this game and it was amazing to get as well. The only down side is that. in multiplayer, there was supposed to be camos for the guns
5:09 probably a reference to when vasily zaytsev was playing dead in that same fountain in the movie enemy at the gates, that whole sequence is actually a reference to that movie. One of the coolest parts of the game
The intro lullaby can be heard faint in some parts of the campaign like in the water leak mission
This is by far my favourite cod. An absolute masterpiece. If they remastered it, I would be so happy.
Black Cats. Some of the dialogue will change depending on how many sailors you rescue near the end of the mission.
in the aircraft mission youll notice at the end when youve saved sailors from the water that in the aid compartment of the aircraft there will be however many sailors you saved, lying in the bunks
The one’s where you spare or kill the surrendering soldiers also reflects you characters in the end as Chernov will mention your character Dimitri’s actions and will either call you a hero, evil, or in between
Blood splatter looks like a soldier to me. Head is a helmet, and to the right he's aiming down the sights of a gun.
agreed
The Natural Hunter line is the one i got in World At War when doing the Vendetta mission, i didn't know there was an alternate line if you are slow, etc.
The rats detail is very interesting because the rats are alerting you of incoming signals of something happening but it’s also very missable
In HITMAN 3 in the mission of HITMAN 1s campaign "CLUB 27" in the bathroom of your room you will find a scale and if you stand on it it's tells you weigh "47".
5:37 looks like a guy throwing a grenade
The pistol guy early on was a reference to the Tom Hanks final stand against the tank scene in Saving Private Ryan
Still one of my favorite COD’s! Loved the multiplayer!
To me, the Grim Reaper blood splatter looks more like someone with wings playing a flute.
We live in a Timeline where Gary Oldman says "No scope, nice"
WaW and BO1 are by far my top to favorite CODs, they're by far the best overall games with the single player, zombies and multiplayer are just perfect
They need to make a remaster of this game!
World at war was the first game I played online, will always be the best CoD for me
WAW is the only COD game that depicted the true horror of world war 2 than any other COD title
Face Full of Eyes is a grand channel, thanks for the credit for them.
Still my favorite COD. Best campaign, introduction to zombies, and good multiplayer. Just my opinion. If you're a fan of war movies, you will notice a lot of Easter eggs and references.
Internet went out in the neighborhood yesterday so I ran through the campaign on veteran. Heart of the reich was just how I remembered it. Soo awesome
If you look purely at campaign, I really think this is the best call of duty ever! 👌🏼👌🏼
Recently got back into this series and its pretty fun replaying some of these games. WaW was one of the first CoD games I got with the other one being the og MW and it was cool seeing what Infinityward and Treyarch could do with these games.
