- The new SRV : Scorpion by Vodel. After 6 years Elite Dangerous finally from days in Horizons, now In ODYSSEY EXCLUSIVE have been given the 2nd Surface Recon Vehicle... after 6 long years. A combat based, 2-seater vehicle made for PEW PEWs & BOOMS. It's equipped with a highly inaccurate DAKKA gun and a massively OP seeker lock-on missile. But overall... what the hell is this thing?!

Oh boy I sure cant wait for when console gets the new SRVs in eight years
Hahaha... Good one!
Star Trek Online does not get console until next month after the PC release.
You could use a PC
@@mwbgaming28 That’s a big purchase for a single game that is hardly worth the investment in its current state.
@@Malthaelx1 but then you get a better gaming experience and you get all the content
The reason the heavier SRV is able to climb better is due to grip: a lighter vehicle will lose grip more quickly because the rotational force generated by the tires will overcome the center of mass more quickly on a steep slope. More weight keeps the wheels firmly planted, making them grip better, and it will also help maintain momentum when you actually get up to speed
Ahah people who actually get it
Except a higher center of gravity could offset that. Effectivly pulling the Scarab away from the surface as the angle increases. Where in this case more weight = less traction from less surface contact. When it comes to climbing stuff its all about surface area and wheel base. A short wheel base as low as you can get it while still being able to clear obstacles, as much surface contact as you can muster and decent tourqe will win every time. Weight be damned, with in reason of course. This is why jeeps were so great at it. The Scorpion has far less surface contact with less wheels but a much lower center of gravity. Being lower and lighter it should be heaps faster, and more nimble. But in a climb I would expect it to be a wash. Then again I only know about street, strip, and mud. Not extraterrestrial yeehaw. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ultimately though none of that matters because I'ts guaranteed bull sh*t anyway.
@@hardwire666too The surface area on an SRV is massive- the wheels are spread so far out that tipping its center of mass- even those as high up as the Scarab's and the Scorpion's- over the point where it would flip is much harder, even at the extreme angles Yamik's tested
@@hardwire666too you work with this shit and still got it wrong lets NOT build cars at your place
@@wildmonkeycar Doesn't have to be enough to flip it. Just enough create unfavorable weight ditribution.
But again, doesn't matter because none of this shizz is real anyway.
"and don't worry if you can't say anything"
Braben: "Oh, I'm not worried about that at all"
He literally gave him an out to avoid overpromising, and the fucker still took the bait and said they would definitely make multiple SRVs in addition to the Scarab
Well promises mean nothing when you never intend to keep them.
Pre launch you can say anything its a selling point and you still dont seem to get it ... this wasnt a promiss you dumbass
Mr. Braben doesn't care about Elite anymore.
@@pythonxz You were right about that. Good thing I never cared for him.
"OMG a new SRV! I will totally come back and play ED because of that!" - Said nobody EVER
I mean ... I would go back to try it IF I didn't have to pay for it and IF it looked interesting, but since none of these are true...
@@esoel Exactly.
I have been trying to find a reason to return... for the past 3 years lol
This isn't it.
I like how IT doesn't cast a shadow, but the seats in it do. They also didn't bother modeling the physical thrusters on it. Just steam shooting directly out of the steel plate under it.
So lazy.
It's not steam, it's *shame*
@@tomokokuroki2506😂😂
From what I remember of Sentinels, they were never a real threat, they were mostly annoying because they had missiles that could flip you over if you weren't under the umbrella of point denfense from a closely parked small ship. It would seem that that would be more annoying if it were to happen with the Scorpion.
Sentinel Missiles don't work anymore in Odyssey.
@@Juno101 What does? 🤣
But it can't flip the Scorpion because it is heavy.
They are a threat in large numbers
@@Loli_lover206 Not even in large numbers. I took on 12 sentinels at once couple days ago because I wanted to speed run the Vessel site. Just go up to them, blast surge in their face.
Was very pleased with the end result. Scarab was not rendered obsolete at all and the scorpion came out as an anti vehicle asset. Scarab still has pinpoint accuracy and 4 cargo. Well done
...its nothing more than a ground based Asp Scout.... well done Fdev, really got ya finger on the pulse there.
If you want to be an endless negative cunt yes ... in reality there is not much wrong with it
The Asp S is wrong beacuse we have many better ships in all aspects, rendering it obsolete. But we have only 2 SRV. So no, the Scorpion is not the SRV Asp S. And this is shown by the fact that is is widely used, while the Asp S is not.
Still has many flaws, dont get me wrong, but the metafor is wrong.
@@Neo-vz8nh Your "metafor" is wrong:)
@@jacobite1017 I don't even used metafor. I not sure that you know what metafor is.
@@Neo-vz8nh You did use it check your replies:)
imagine windshield could be just metal covered with 3d screens which creates the illusion of being glass
Ow yeah close off all the ships to , make everything steel with camera's 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even the fucking truck he showed HAD WINDOWS they are just specially hardend in some way you cant possibly understandits future glass ok ... you have no real points on this
@@danielstokker Ah, yes, so that is why MBT, IFV and other, mostly tracked, armored vehicles have so many large windows in them.......... Oh, wait, they don't. The best you get is either very small, periscopic vision blocks, cameras, or sticking your head out. Granted, the cameras are very good, usually have a night vision mode and, for gunner and commander, a thermal sight on top of it.
There is also the point that even those vehicles that have armored glass, often try to minimize the area of glass that they need, where it is possible to do so. As with any design, though, compromises have to be made and each vehicle is designed for a specific protection level, e.g. only against calibers up to heavy machine guns.
Anyway, my point is, that there are quite a few types of military vehicles that don't have windows as such (or can hide them under armor, see Boxer GTK), to improve survivability against even some types of autocannons.
The Scorpion SRV would, at best, be a scout vehicle, meant to relay information, but stay hidden and retreat when it meets actual opposition.
@Okabe Rintaro (Blackpilled) the screens would work perfectly fine they have tested it what your telling is bullshit and extremly hardend glass is here already to.... closing off a covkpit doesnt make s3ns3 because systhems could fail and cost you your damn life because you simy couldnt see outside stop being dumb
@@Schnittertm1 this is not a tank its a fucking beach buggy with armor quit being a idiot and trying to pull it out of perspective completely to just to try and make a point this thing is not far off from a humvee .
You wanting a tank and not getting one is another story of a spoiled little idiot "and they would use less surface area for glass" so youve missed how the glass is at a perfect angle to deflect bullets if its hard enough and only the nose has a few panels i know some choppers with a canopy like this that would deflect handgun bullets without a problem
You've got to hand it to FD Yamiks. You'll never run out of content for your videos with them :D

i would think a ramp up weapon would get more accurate as it fires, especially a mounted one
It does tho
It does also on this buggy but yamicks didnt want to show that in this video but aim at a target once and fire at it from a good distance for more then 5 seconds , the guy is truly nitpicking onbthis video there isnt much wrong with the buggy if nothing at all yamicks just wants to kick and scream because he thinks he can
The fucking Negev takes shorter to ramp up and get accurate, get real.
@@danielstokker he literally holds the trigger for 32 seconds at 6:00 lmao
Yeah, I also thought that the biggest on-foot Conflict Zones would be similar to Battlefield to encourage the use of other vehicle types. The upshot would be that there would be a lot of variety; each CZ could have a different combination of settlement types.
I imagined like 3-5 related settlements each separated by a few km of empty terrain and roads. Settlements would have a vehicle bay to pick up a Scorpion or Scarab and things like military bases might have Eagles, Vipers, or Vultures with standard loadouts for players to jump into. I don't care if they want to make Bring Your Own Ship the same as other CZs where you have one chance and that's it, but I'm disappointed that all we got was a basic point-capture against bots with no real effort to making SRV combat interesting, viable, or even something one can encounter!
Then why the hell did buy a game that wasnt even out of beta ??? Why do you people pay for beta's ....??? Seems quite stupid if you ask me . Everybody knew this or at least rhe info was widespread ... what the hell made you people.believe this was a polished and finished update ???
Sad it's only in your dreams =(
@@Rin8Kin If only
Well i can recommand you the game Command & Conguqer Renegade X.
But i 100% agree, the current system is just dumb.
Lazy dev is lazy. I leart that a couple of years ago. Now I just get popcorns and watch the dumpster burn.
The only way to organically meet another commander on foot is to spot a Fronline dropship and follow it in your personal ship. Why would you disembark and open yourself up to getting killed when you could just missile boat them repeatedly?
FDev's way of dealing with past promises almost always involves saying they have no information or they never had plans to implement such things.
That looks like a Nod stealth tank's "short bus" little brother.
I wish I'd have known that the reason they couldn't go into detail when they announced it was because they had no content whatsoever to go into detail about
I'm pretty sure Yamiks, Obsidian Ant, Commander Exigeous and Sepulcher Geist live rent-free in FDevs minds.....if not they should. Considering their content reaches tens of thousands and God knows how many actual players. I personally watch all their content and have learned more from them than I ever could on my own. Cheers.
- Commander Von Neinlederhosen
Seriously Yam, you and Obsidian are tops. I love your content ( tips hat ), thank you bubba.
You think guns in the future, even miniguns like on the roof of this space tank, would be leaps and bounds more accurate and more efficient than they are today. This performance is noticeably worse than miniguns in real life today, and that includes a certain unmanned defense turret, which happens to be accurate enough to shoot down missiles
btw, it's a laser.... you know... a beam of light. :)
Obviously society has gone fully woke by then! Nothing gets improved in a regressive society just changed for the worse!
Careful when using logic in regards to FDev and their game... that way lies depression and comedy in equal measure.
@@takodaholeman6439 I believe he means the Phalanx CIWS, a radar-guided 20mm M61 Vulcan multicannon.
I can confirm we already have mounted remote control/operated weapon systems with active target tracking, IR/thermal/night vision, and normal or better accuracy than human operated, as long as the person operating the system has good idea how to use the system. Check out the CROW systems. They are heavily used by special forces and military branches with more funding. Heck, even the automated anti rocket (c-ram) or anti missile (seaRAM) systems used today are more accurate lol. They are also super badass.
I wish the Scorpion operated more like the Batmobile "tank" in Arkham Knight with 360-degree independent movement of both wheels and turret, toted an anti-spaceship cannon along with the anti-personnel machine gun, maybe some swarm missiles to address skimmers, and point defense slots. Like, make it a formidable ground force.
Also, look to NMS for some other deployable vehicles. It would be awesome to have a mech-walker that's deployable without landing (think dropping into an area without having to travel 2km from the restriction zone) or a hover bike to glide over the rocks and not get flipped. I especially like the hover bike models used in Skyforge.
It's still more fun to drive. I really enjoy having the option, as the fact that it's quieter.
0:25 "Hey! You can’t use directly attestable comments from Braben to criticise Elite for not fulfilling promises! You can only do that with Star Citizen!" - subreddit and forum mods.
And there were any promises, except for the words, "let other srvs be felt, they will be reproached differently"? In what he is right, Scorpion feels and manages better than scarab
also, looks more like the car in borderlands than the halo thing
You mean the runner? It kind of does look loosely like that
Yes the BL3 runner is very similar. The mentioned Halo one is no where near similar.
It's probably not glass though Yamiks - probably aluminum oxynitride.
About time we got more SRVs....
the answer : super advanced future glass is harder than modern steel.
I started laughing from the moment you jingled the car keys right up to the end of the video - then I had to watch it all over again because I was too busy laughing to take in what you'd said - Funniest thing since the "Armstrong moment" in my opinion . . . . Great video! 👍👍👍👍👍
Hello Yamiks!! Your first video of 2022!!
Happy New Year to you Yamiks!!!!
Respectfully Yours, R
You'll know FDev understands FPS design when they add a modification for laser weapons that converts half the damage to ballistic so we don't have to choose between the stupid rock-paper-scissors damage types or the slower-than-christmas plasma rifle.
This vehicle might be a joke for older players, I just joined in around late 2020 and, from my point of view, I actually loved it's overall performance gameplay wise and as a design for an SRV. Even the machine gun wind-up could make sense and can be found in other game mechanics (in theory, the faster the loading mechanism rotates the shorter is bullet dispersion) and can be worked around it especially since you get access to a missile launcher with dummy and seeker launch options - if we rely on 19th century cranked technology at least - plus it has extra ammo and an additional belt to reload compared to Scarab repeater.
However:
-1: it seems unfair and unreasonable to keep the vehicle just for Odyssey, it is perfectly viable for Horizons as well since there is no mechanic or other factor to limit it to Odyssey's client - even the textures could be simplified a bit if necessary
-2: no option for hardpoint changes based on gameplay preferences - a missed opportunity
-3: I agree on gameplay balance and overall damage sponge / output, but ships and on-foot armor/weapons suffer from this as well
-4: no combat dedicated missions on foot
-5: no possibility for countermeasures - every modern military vehicle has some kind for them, from smoke shells to active protection systems like jammers, anti-missile projectile dispensers or even shaped charges - a small point defense would suffice as well
On a small note though, I tried to shoot small ships like Asp Scout, Hauler, hangar fighters etc and it can actually kill ships while shooting your gun to kill shields and missile to finish up the ship's hull (or decreease it enough to be finished by the ongoing fire on the main gun), but I agree that a properly player-based ship will decimate the poor Scorpion in seconds even without using rockets since ships may be capable of locking onto you and any gimballed gun may actually track you off, while their engineered shields will shrug off your ammunition long enough to kill you several times.
Last time I tried it, it had none of the animations the Scarab had, the turret would clip through the ship while boarding. It is not even integrated to look like a polished product
hmm... damn looks like i missed that
Glad I’m not the only one who noticed that. It doesn’t even fold down either
Well you paid for a beta not me geuss what your still testing whats going to be my finished product and you even paid for it HOW FUCKING STUPID CAN YOU BE ! and since when do you get a finished product in a beta ??? why are this many people on a smart game this severly stupid ???
@@danielstokker I never paid for a beta, I bought odyssey in December, far after release, the only stupid thing is you assuming I poured all my money into Elite
@@danielstokker welp, talk about irony
You are the BEST! Gogogo Yamiks!
Granted, srvs probably shouldn't be able to kill anything bigger than an eagle
I think specially designed SRVs should work as AA but suffer greatly vs ground targets larger than a human.
It can kill NPC eagles. It kinda works, but still needs balancing, which probably never come :(
Another WRONG opinion
Honestly I don't much mind the canopy, it's a video game, so to a degree, if it's fun and cool > realistic.
2 ton cargo capacity, no significantly better gun than standard SRV, it's not faster, and it's an exclusive to a $30 DLC instead of the expansion that released SRVs.
Elite dangerous is definitely a clown show nowadays
Are you stupid ? The gun of the new srv is better in everything than the old one. A strong spread in the first 2 seconds on the close distance does not particularly interfere, and on the far distance you just shoot longer or use missiles (and if I'm not mistaken, the range is also much greater). Slower than the standard srv, but you rub your armor on every bump and are not afraid to turn 360 when trying to turn or because of any bump.
The only clowns i see are moaning about one of the best spacegames out now , the gun is way better then the standard srv stfu or leave the game already
@@danielstokker, FDEV shill detected. Stay salty.
I like it more because it doesn't get flipped around as easily if your wheel catches against an errant small rock. A shame that it lacks the materials scanner.
Let's see yamiks play some unreal tournament or maybe black mesa, somehow I think it would be really entertaining and funny.
Thanks Yamiks as always a very entertaining update on where Elite is at! Still nothing as yet to get me to go back as they haven't even gotten to the point where they should of been at Odyssey release, based on all the promises before hand. You would think that a better range of purpose designed SRVs would be good bait for the noobs but they can't even get that right. Imagine being able to customize an SRV, fit larger cargo bays, different weapons, or mining equipment. So much potential so little imagination in Fdev.
Hey, maybe the canopy glass is actually transparent aluminum! 😂
Braben has the facial expression of all the movie villains. Never trusted him.
you got me by the truth about numbers and definatly by the shinji meam that u make :D

That is funny. But you just need to remember that anything with two zeroes on the end can be said as hundred.
At least we don't say numbers like: "sixty ten nine" when we mean seventy-nine. Looking at you, France.

"Get in the damn SCORPION, Yamiks"
4:05 literally every ship in elite
Normally I am in agreement in many of your points; and even here I agree with everything but one little nitpick... There is this trend I am observing with a lot of PVP-centric people is this concept of "balance" being a total, hard-line, even-skill "this target wins if it's played better" without any consideration as to what's being pitted against what. In a straight arena-shooter, I totally agree... But you can't apply the same logic to anything with combined arms. There are many things you can, and should, poke fun at FDev for, especially over Odyssey! Them finding that a multi-million dollar, 2000 ton FTL capable starship with a missile bore larger than your thigh absolutely makes cream paste out of a technical (milsimmer for "toyota with a gun onnit") being a good state for balance is not one of them! Only in the competitive PVP scene does that seem to be represented as bad.
It's amazing for the missions where you clear out a base, which have 1-2 skimmers, and like 40 goons
As well as acting as a great energy and ammo reup point in conflict zones, as the npcs don't shoot at it empty, you can also target the thrusters of those dropships and stop them from perminantly apparently, I don't know why you would, since you can rack up a lot of kils by simply running them over, which is safer than getting out and picking them off
what happened to 11:09 to the terrain XD
to be fair its not glass and neither are ship canopies, its transparent titanium
Opens with Braben 2015 interview. Me: Oh god Yamiks what new expletives' will I learn today?
Is it just me or do the wheels look off on this?
Like they should either be on the end of the wheel arms, or the inside?
If they're going to be on the outside they should be bigger?

15:27 what is that death "animation" / transition, looks like they literally make you leave the srv though the menu and then detonate it while putting you in a 3rd person cam
also the fact that you can't leave the srv s without using a menu or having at least a animation is rough (i would have at least expected arma 3 levels of mounting and dismounting animations)
Effort went into xmas knitwear instead.
Well i can 100% agree that this is again a wasted opportunity, and the combined war or sphere of comabt as they call it just a joke, the Scorpion is not that bad.
I do shoot down 2 NPC ships with it, on of them which was shooting me, and it was a duel (NPC eagle with rails, which because of how the NPC rail work, was quite challangeing). So while calling ship vs SRV combat healthy is a joke, at least it works against small ships. Fighting anything big: ships, skimmert, guardians, and thargoid ground forces, are better then the Scrab. The only thing which is worst, and you encounter like 85% of the cases, is the infantry, which coul be also good IF they would make the starting accuricity good (which they propably never do :( ).
But the best thing of all, the most important is that, you CAN travel like 100 m with it without falling over, tripping over, rolling over, which you CAN'T do in the Scrab.
So if you dont have to travel big distances (material collecting, or visiting something) it fells better.
Which is kinda ironic, that for me, it is more prefered for exploration, and the Scrab is better against general combat. Just shows how FDev is incapable in some fields.

I swear to God, it's like Frontier has gone to the Ubisoft school of community management. I'm not kidding. I'm still trying to figure out why it needs brake lights.
Seriously though, what planet is that Yamiks?
Ship and SRV combat should not be balanced. SRV is a bucket on wheels, while ship is a pure art of technology that pierces space-time on regular basis. Even strongest SRVs, should stand a tiny chance, ONLY against fighter jets
I can't even feel upset no more in front of Rtarts FDevs ineptitude
my issue is the missing materials scanner. No reason not to have added it
I found your srv panther clipper leak video just a few days before the release of this thing was officially announced. I noted the abysmal time from leak to release my self for a craft that at the moment is essentially useless. The surface conflict zones just don't support the need for ANY srv, much less one for combat.
I imagine the windscreen is a sheet of diamond or some such shit, then the increased weight of the numpty wagon will give it increased traction when offroading to the max... this SRV is probably pointless, but can you have one of each in a double SRV garage? just so I can have a go once then leave it to gather rust.

You can see the scorpion in your srv bay, but you can't deploy it
Looks like it would be better if you could equip the new guns to the old SRV.
