      Protip: to land on a station, fly towards it until you land

    • @wiytchery
      @wiytchery 3 года назад +14

      First, emit a docking request while being 7.5 km away or closer to the station. Once they approve, they will tell you a landing pad number where you must land. Keep a low speed (one that you can easily control at least) and go through the mailslot (opening of the station). Then, find your landing pad and approach slowly. Press L (or whatever key you binded with deploying your landing gear) and get yourself approximately above the landing pad. Pressing X (or whatever to go down), you should start to see the map in your ship showing your position on the pad. Make sure the ship’s nose is looking forward with its back turned on you on the map, and use Z and C to control the x axis and center yourself on the pad. Once the target is blue, you can lower the ship slowly and it will dock automatically once you’re close enough. And fun fact, while approaching a station, the station’s dispatch (if you are clean and don’t have any fines to pay) will call you by: [ship manufacturer], [military tags for the first 3 letters of your name] so if your name in the game is commander paul and you just started out with a sidewinder, it should say: Delacy Papa Alfa Uniform

    1:41 you need a fer-de-lance with 2 med pulse lasers and 2 med multi-cannon, lasers vs shields, multi-cannon vs hull for a quick kill.

  • @c0baltl1ghtn1ng
    @c0baltl1ghtn1ng 3 года назад +31

    For the PVE build, I'd go against 'Oops, all lazers.'
    Yes, you'll need to go back and rearm now and then, but Multi-cannons can serve all skill ranges extremely well; The basic ammo is cheap, it rips through NPC hulls like it ain't there, the ammo is cheap, and they look cool, to boot: 1,300 years into the future, and humanity is still using Rotating barrel firearms and 4-barreled flak cannons. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
    I can make 2-4 million credits in a haz-res before I run dry, and the ammo only takes maybe 2% of that at most.
    For the healyz, if you are having power problems, even a pulse lazer with concordant sequence is an amazing boon. Not as quick as the actual beam of regeneration sequence, but it doubles the target's natural shield regeneration rate for 10 seconds. Unlike the healy beams, though, Concordant Sequence does not stack.
    Either way, just make sure that your wing-mate still has shields; Healy Beemz don't work if there ain't no shields to restore, and instead they give an oof.
    Regarding Pips; mostly incorrect. 4 pips in SYS It ups the Resistance of your shields, not give an amount. It technically *does* add to the effective health of your shields, but that's the only 'technically correct' part.

    If you want to make money on combat, find a system with multiple factions that give pirate massacre missions that all go to a single nearby system with good RES sites. Build your rep with all factions, stack massacre missions from each, and you can actually make decent money. Because missions from different factions can be completed at the same time, where if you have multiple missions from a single faction you can only do 1 mission at a time.
    17 million for killing 30 ships is the usual pay rate for one max-rep elite pirate massacre mission, so if you can stack one mission from 3 or 4 factions at a time you can be making 60-80 million a run, and finish it in an hour if you're quick and have good luck with spawns. Just avoid wing missions unless you're actually winging up with other folks, they boost up the kill numbers too much to be worthwhile alone.
    Not mining money or anything, but it's decent cash, and if you want to make money on combat it's the best way to my knowledge.
    Make sure you don't take missions for pirate deserters, though. Those are traps and the deserters are basically non-existent.

    • @RMMinc
      @RMMinc 3 года назад

      Actually, if you lucky with mission random you can stack in the end simple (not wing) massacre mission from the same faction. Thanks to Fdev nerf, kills in such mission would not count untill first one(winged) is completed. So you just chain respawning easy mission beacon. Kinda useful if you lack fully engineered OP ship.

    Assassination Mission in conjunction with stacked Massacre Pirate Missions. Make sure the Assassination Missions are in the same system as the Pirate ones and you can walk away with 120 mil or more in an hour easy. Takes time leveling up factions, getting rank, but 20 bil in cash/22bil in assets is proof that combat is a viable means to earn credits. Yes even those 2.5 mil assassination missions help. Nothing like fighting multiple Corvettes at once :).

    • @crossxfire0074
      @crossxfire0074 3 года назад

      I do this as well. You have to pick the missions that you can handle though and make sure the targets belong to the same faction as the massacre mission targets. It works very well. Especially since the assassination targets chase you into rez zones, and you can take them out quickly there and they count as massacre mission targets too.

      @@Fm-us4pk So, I'm triple elite, made allies with a bunch of systems near my home world. I grab 39 mil mission from one faction, 39 mil from another, some 20 and 17 mils and stack them. Then I grab as many assassination missions, these are for pirates ( and are usually 2.5 mil per). My home world keeps all these activities in one system, 1 jump away. As I fly to the haz site to kill pirates, the assassination mission targets will interdict me, I let them, normally there will be a corvette or two, an anaconda sometimes and a FDL. These all count towards the massacre missions as well. Once you finish your massacre missions, and if you still have a assassination one, scan the system with your FSS after you gong it, the gold USS is where they will be. If by chance the target fled, it will update with a nark in another system that will rat him out. Go to that system, fly towards a base and a small craft will alert you and jump out. Jump on him and he will tell you where the target is. Pretty easy actually. The trick is to rank up and make all factions allies so you get the "good" missions. It was not like that in the old days, I think that is what Yamiks was referring to.

  • @FreeFragUK
    @FreeFragUK 3 года назад +2

    Personally I've always felt as though Elite's greatest weakness (beyond unfinished mechanics and lack of depth in various errors) has always been the ships and their lack of identity. More often than not there is little reason to run a ship which doesn't fall within the "multirole" category in each of the three size classes as fighters/combat ships rarely hold any meaningful advantage in combat over multirole ships. If anything selecting a dedicated combat ship severely restricts your gameplay options, unless of course you own multiple ships. Admittedly the same could be said when picking a hauler/freighter too when drawing comparisons to multirole vessels.
    While I accept Elite for what it is, I've always held the opinion that Frontier really need to re-work ships and armaments. Personally I look at the Viper Mk IV and can't help but see a variant of the Viper intended to perform torpedo or bombing runs against larger ships but this simply isn't viable/an option. I don't know, maybe I just miss games such as Freespace 2 too much and the way ship roles were handled there.

  • @shaamaan
    @shaamaan 3 года назад

    Depending on the ship and what you want to do with it, resistance builds CAN work. I'm using the biggest bi-weave one can use in the game on my Cutter, and when fighting in a HazRES or CZ the shields will practically never drop below ~50%. By the time you start fighting the next target these bad boys will be back up to full. Admittedly these are NOT good for a prolonged fight against multiple enemies - so either you need to learn to disengage or go for the Prismatics if that's your fancy. But other than that I love never having to stop to worry about shields.
    Admittedly, yes, the ship also uses ammo... but with so many shield boosters strapped to it it would be hard to put in more lasers. :P

      The whole point of having two triggers is that you don't have to fire the same group all the time. For example, put beam lasers on primary and pulse or MC on secondary. Fire both until you WEP capacitor is nearly drained, then switch to secondary only. Go back to primary if you lose targeting and the capacitor refills by the time you reacquire.

  • @vahnn0
    @vahnn0 3 года назад

    Maybe it's just due to my location (S E C R E T), but Assassinations can be worth it now. My base is a station that will often give me up to 8 or 10 assassination missions, all located in 2 nearby systems (all 3 systems are one jump from one another), and always killing 2 different factions of pirates, with each faction located in one system. I usually find that if I avoid scanning for the target signal source and just fly in a big circle at the jump-in point in a system, I'll get interdicted by one of my targets. And at least half the time, another target will jump in to help my current target. Along with the cops, who will help me kill them both. One time, a third target jumped in!
    Even without that miracle happening to make my job(s) easier, finding 3-5 targets in a single system and killing them usually takes a few minutes each. Then jump to the next system and repeat. Within 20 or 30 minutes, I have anywhere from 10 to 40 million in mission payouts, all collected at my base system. The bounties aren't worth turning in after each set of mission, but after a couple of hours of killing targets (in ALD space), I'll have accrued an additional 10-25 million in bounties, although I have to travel to two systems to turn them in (although one of my target systems has an Interstellar Factors contact where I can sell the other system's bounties, but that's at a 25% penalty.)
    I'm not saying assassination missions rival other forms of income, but it can be pretty close to bounty hunting, and it's certainly a nice change of pace from just cycling targets endlessly and melting them in a RES for hours.
    I also get plenty of elite wing assassination missions, which I'm fully capable of soloing in my Corvette, but I've never been interdicted by a wing target, and the target is almost always in a wing of 3-4, with a second wing of 3-4 ships nearby, and they always all seem to attack at once. Still soloable for 4-10 million payout, but usually requiring me to either dock for rearm/repair, or wait a long time for shields to fully regen before taking on the next target.

      Normal, or Prismatics if you have them. Quick charge builds are ones which use Bi-weaves.
      Some ships may benefit more from bi-Weaves than others. The Chieftain is a prime example, being better suited for hull-tanking than shield tanking due to limited size of optional and number of utility slots.
