Phil your knolage is wonderful , and the best part is your delivery of procedure , I'm mechanically minded , but your explanation of process is very much methodical ,& with the the little tips for us ,forgot a lot of everythig older bastards , it gives me much needed conference to tackle my own bikes , ps once again , much appreciated 😊🤞👍✌
You deserve a proper original HD workshop manual. I got one on ebay for fuck all and it came as a disk. Chucked it in my laptop and but it also on a stick. Took it to the libary and printed out all the pages then put them in plastic sheets in a folder. Its way better then flicking through a book. All are protected by the plastic sheet covers and you can remove the relivant pages to the task at hand. I highly recommend you do it. The CD disk cost me approx $20au. Well worth it. I think printing cost another $20.
Good vid Phil, a lot of this shit is very interesting to us boneheads kicking back for the day, you can learn quite a lot from shows like this, and the way you explain even all the little bits, its stuff we can learn from, great video hope you keep going with them, I'm 67 still riding and doing my own work never too old to learn cheers mate.
thanks for filming this whole damn thing. It really helps us to get inside your mind (albeit a dangerous place to be) and go thru the process that many of us find ourselves in. What to look for, what to trash or repair, bushing checks, the whole build/repair process. People will watch your long videos again and again if its filled with info like you do and not jerk us off like those other goofy OCC wannabes on U Tube. To me learning everything about your process is like attending HD night school and if we all help spread the word to our social media followers we can help you get more views/more ad money for another garage addition! Love all of your work but expecially the hard core pan stuff (buy a knuckle will ya- I need help with a 47) I almost took offense the dodgy American comment but then remembered all the shit heads who pounded on my bikes over the years and have to agree.

1946?, I don't really know but i think i seen F6 on there?. Or did they only run from 41- 53?. Great vids ya making, I like the no bullshit approach. I did notice in the last one i seen you didn't go much into measuring clearances for the shift dogs?. Maybe because it was a cost saving build and you just put most of what came out back in just did the seals and cleaned it up?. I think your going to show it all here when you do the rebuild, You called it timing?.
Mate I’ve learnt that if you’re using the same lid, same case and same gear sets. If the customer didn’t complain and it shifting poorly don’t touch it haha. Someone might have already ironed out some weird problem. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it!
the countershafts are different sizes for needle bearings and rollers bearings... you can't run needles bearings on an early case unless you change out the case bushing and run the later sized countershaft size. Ask me how I know, eh.
I too am a RUclips mechanic sometimes. If I’ve forgotten how to do something or I’m doing something for the first time I always looks for a video or a forum if I get stuck on something!

@ oh yea, forsure. I bought a “rebuilt” trans with the wrong countershaft (too small) and it was a mess…popped outta gear everywhere.
