Someone great once said "Its so easy to laugh its so easy to hate, it takes strength to be gentle and kind".
“On my worst of days, I want to keep wanting to be kind”
It’s a fabulous lyric! I might get that as a tattoo.
Keep doing you, Laura. You’re inspiring so many of us out here!
Wow, this is lovely to read thank you! Have a fab day, Dan xo
Who gives a shit what they think, you're a hard worker doing the things you love in a difficult industry.
Yes! Thank you xo
Imagine getting annoyed that someone discussed themselves on THEIR OWN RUclips CHANNEL!!!! 🤦♂️ First day on the internet obviously 🤷🏼♂️🤔
That "twit" was probably just upset that he'll never write anything as GooD as "Let It Snow" 🙂
Haha perhaps!
Hi Laura - Agree with you 100% on this. This video really raised my spirits and I'm so glad you made it. Keep going, stay positive/focused and keep being yourself no matter what.
Awh thank you, I'm glad you got something from it! xo
Imagine going to someone's house, pre internet, and asking the host "please don't talk about yourself or anything you own in this house I've come in to"..... JFC #facepalm
YESSSSSS!
Well they could simply kill their television if they don't like it
Indeed!
Absolutely the best course of action when somebody’s comment is needlessly mean. We can’t say for sure what their motivation is, but experience tells me that remove and move on is the best way to discourage them from coming back and having more silly things to say. Personally, I’m here for seeing you making things about yourself on your own channel, because I like you and the things you have to say (and sing!)
Thanks so much, Sami, it's always so lovely to hear from you. I've been avoiding IG recently which is a bit sad cos I love seeing your posts over there. I hope you and the lovely Dave are super well xo
@@Penfriendrocks aww, you too! x
Brilliant video thanks - I don't know why RUclips put this on my home feed particularly this morning, but glad it did, so maybe it knows me better than I want it to.
I have a real problem with that feature of RUclips Studio where the comment I've chosen not to respond to just sits there for 3 days with its off-colour negativity - maybe we should click on the feedback button and let YT know it sucks.
In case it helps I replied to a similar comment to the one you got...
and it gave them the chance to both double down on the first comment and give them the interaction and attention they craved. Plus it meant I devoted more time to them than the kind comments I only hearted or said thanks....
The best response I've given to the worst comments is
"Thank you for letting me know that this video is not for you."
(which is borrowed from Seth Godin).
It feels like a really kind way of excluding them or letting them know they've excluded themselves.
It either always gets no response or they start rowing back from the original comment.
You might have inspired me to finally edit the video I've wanted to make about this.
Anyway thanks again.
Yes! I've written to them two or three times about it over the months and years, it might help if it's not just me. I spent too much time and energy replying to horrible comments on Facebook a while ago, just trying to show I'm a real human reading this stuff, and call them out (too politely) on their bad manners...and then yeah, I realised I could have been doing literally ANYTHING ELSE with that time, including spending it on the people who want to hear from me. Instead, I just make videos about the silliest ones now :) I'm excited to watch your video on this topic, hooray! xo
@@Penfriendrocks Haha brilliant - thanks again PenfriendRocks
Know that you are not alone. Blindboy often talks about this from time to time on his podcast. I haven’t had it too often but there is one video on my RUclips channel which is an acoustic cover of Julia by the Beatles and from time to time I get these critiques in the comment section saying that I am playing it too fast to which I respond ‘not fast enough’, or ‘I love you too’. 😂I honestly can’t take it too seriously but I absolutely appreciate that if this is what you are doing for your main income then naturally you bring your intrinsic worth to the process and it can feel personal when you get gnarly comments. Know that the appreciation here amongst all of us crushes the negativity every time. Keep doing what you do, it matters that you keep at it as I know you will 💪👌🏼👍🙏🏽🔨🍻🤟
Hahaha good on you for your attitude towards that stuff. It's been funny over the past two years fielding comments about not being able to play that Moog synth, good practice for what may be to come if things continue to build on here! Thankfully my music is my main thing, it would be way too hard to survive on RUclips alone and not be sucked into all the numbers and the random comments. Having said that, it's high time for some more Facebook ads so that'll bring some amusing responses I'm sure. Perhaps fodder for a future video!
Laura thank you for posting this video. Both you and Rat have inspired me to create more and work on my second book.
Oh wow Jason, thanks for letting me know this! I'm so glad you're moving forward with your project xo
love you x🦔

Laura, Loved this video. Keep on Keeping on .....
Thank you! Always lovely to hear from you xo
I 100% agree
Enjoyed this one, will be re-listening to Porcupine in a moment, such a good track :) (rest of the album isn't shabby either)
Thank you!
@@Penfriendrocks bought a pair of tshirts too, not sure if they'll get here in time for Glastonbury, but fingers crossed :)
@@spinyuk Oh thank you! I'll get them in the post today xo
@@Penfriendrocks turned up today, thank you for the super speedy delivery, hope it's still t-shirt weather at the festival next week so I can show them off 😀
So grateful for you putting yourself out there. You help me. And the porcupine stuff is AWESOME!!
Thank you, lovely! xo
Some strange folk about online 😊
Love the mug! I was going to say that you must be doing something right to get idiots like this reacting the way they do... Perhaps this small % of negativity is an indication of how well you're getting your work out there for the people that do appreciate it. A bit like the massively famous Coldplay* becoming the butt of jokes about rubbish music.
* I personally don't think they're rubbish, they're just not for me. Other brands ... er ... bands also available: see also U2, Nickelback, etc.
as a complete aside from your content in this - what make is your P bass? Is it a fender?
Yep, that's right! I have two: one American P bass and one Mexican.
@@Penfriendrocks nice! Do you find much difference between the two(if you played them back to back)? Slightly different tonal qualities or the electrics, maybe? Sorry for the questions but curious. I only ever had very very cheap and nasty basses years ago.
1:04 took me out
🤣
Obviously doesn't have anything else to do.
I do wonder how many other videos he commented on in that spurt of angry energy...
