I very much doubt this will be how XCOM 3 will look or play. I do kind of want to keep the Breach feature... albeit only for certain missions and not EVERY mission... but having customisable units, much more detailed gameplay, etc, is a MUST for a main-series game. Also, while this game shouldn't be directly copied for XCOM 3, I like the idea that it's still canon to the overall story of the series, meaning in the next game we should see hybrid and ex-alien forces as playable units... meaning whatever new enemy they bring in (since the Elders should be all but dead by this point) will have to bring whole new armies and enemies to the battle. Maybe we'll still see old enemies like Berserkers and Crysallids, but we'll likely see whole new creatures to fight to force players to use new tactics to fight them! Like you say, this seems like a nice itch-scratcher and a way to hype up fans for the next announcement for the series, which I doubt is too far away. Possibly even announced later this year.

One thing I love about Torque is that if she's wrapped around the last enemy on the battlefield, it's an instant defeat for that enemy. They could have 20x her HP and have guns coming out their arse, but you wrap them and there's no-one else around (and no reinforcements coming), and they just instantly die. It's a great way to take out a particularly difficult foe. The only downsides is that it doesn't work on MECs (that I know of... I never got her that close to one to try wrapping it), and it cannot just knock out a foe. It kills them. So if you want to capture the unit, you won't be able to.
Yeah, seemed like a bit of a missed opportunity to allow for one last choice to either unbind (allowing for others to subdue) or kill the last enemy. Still, Torque has a great ability to deny a turn to some of those more dangerous foes like a Purifier flamethrower unit.

Torque for poison and tongue-repositioning, Cherub for shields, terminal for heals, last spot flexible choice between claymore, patchwork and blueblood. Tested playing the game and it works really well.
Just a heads up since it is not mentioned. Axiom gains rage when he buffs himself or when shot. This improves abilities but each point of rage has a chance to berserk him. He gets an extra turn of an uncontrolled action where he will do something punchy. Awesome, but make sere the enemies are closer
I had a great time with this game. For my second playthrough I'm gonna go with Torque, Patchwork, Blueblood with the fourth alternating between Terminal, Godmother and Zephyr. Love how I can just place Godmother amongst a bunch of enemies and when they all move they get blasted to hell for no extra action point. Same with Zephyr but lower damage and lower range.
I've only bought the game two days ago on sale for steam and so far I really like teaming Axiom and Blueblood together. Another good combo is Terminal and Godmother at least for me it's worked out pretty good.
I feel this is gonna be like it was in the mass effect games were people won't use their human team mates unless they absolutely have to. Humans are pretty boring compared to the unique and fun alien team mates.
My team has 2 human (Terminal and Blueblood), axiom and a cherub, Really terminal is like a must, unless you want to just use medikit or nanomedikit all the way to the end of the game, and I use blueblood cause he's fun, hitting and killing multiple enemies in 1 turn is epic, and you could make it longer by just using terminal cooperate on him
Who wants to use a human when you can have a team of sneksssss? In Xcom 2, I played through the game once, then maxed out on the robots every other play through.
There are two other Agents I used that aren't listed, but that's because they're addons from the steam Workshop. first, Archangel: A Turian Sharpshooter from the Mass Effect Trilogy, Archangel (AKA Garrus) specializes in attacking from long range. Second, Titan: A scrapped agent that was given new life, She is a female Muton whose role was likely the precursor for Claymore (In fact, Claymore was originally HER codename) anyways, the agents I chose were Godmother, Terminal, Verge, Cherub, Axiom, Zephyr, Blueblood, Patchwork, Archangel, Titan, And (Of Course), Torque
Going to go Torque, Axiom, Terminal and Cherub. And heres why: Torque: being able to pull injured allies or disrupt the enemy is always a good call, that coupled with some of her unlocks make her a tank that can CC, off heal and tank with Mach weave on her. Axiom: His rage makes him a ticking time bomb should some poor sod was dumb enough to keep shooting him and from what I've seen, it can do a bit of battlefield renovations. Terminal: Do you need to ask why shes here? Cherub: That shield is gonna save asses if RNG hates me today... Not saying that the others are bad, hell no! But those four will be my main squad!
I hope they explain why Vipers were Yellow in X-Com 2 and now White in X-Com: Chimera. I assume it's their natural skin (scale?) tone, as a side effect of possible combat modifications by the Elders.
Torque is the only white viper we see as she was hatched in Siberia whilst the yellow vipers were hatched on invasion ships it could also just be that she is albino
From the Alien Hunters expansion they had a bunch of Neonates, all of which were white with red markings. Torque herself is only nineteen, so it may be an indication of a Viper's age. Or the Vipers we saw were just one particular skin/scale colour. We never kill more than a hundred each game so it's a possibility we just haven't seen more than that particular appearance.
Axiom's video confirmed that he's super into human literature, but for the rest of them I guess we'll just have to use our imagination. (And libido, in Torque's case)
Verge apparently likes to eat butter a lot, despite finding the idea of it disturbing. So we know that he eats butter during his free time, and that Jam is poisonous to sectoids
I've found Torque is very usefull against high mobillity enemies like the Ronin, as it puts them out of action for as long as the bind holds, and I don't have to rage at how they cheat with being able to move a bajillion times per round. I.HATE.Bending Reed My favourite setup so far has super moblile poison Torque, Terminal (Because MEDIC), Blueblood with lightning hands and faceoff to shoot everyone full of holes, and either Godmother speced out like a tank, or Verge doing psy stuff, then shooting (But I think I prefer Untouchable "Beat your head in" Godmother tank. Oh, and grenades. Lots of grenades to throw)
The game need some balance .. some characters are game breaking .... BlueBlood can basically kill half of the map (if not all) in one turn if used right

Once I get to select an agent, what happens to the rest of them? Do I get to select them later or they are discarded from the agents pool if they are not selected in the first time they are shown? Please help me out here.
you start with four agents and can recruit a new one ever once in a while. But you can only have a maximum of 8 agents. so pick which ones you want carefully
So does Shelter not use a weapon anymore after he gets soulfire or is he just glitched for me? He was able to use a SMG until I got soulfire and now he can't use any weapon or armor (still can use armor mods just not armor). Makes me not want to use him at all.

@@REDARROW_A_Personal yeah saw that till the game is out now, and i have to said it's quite good actually for a small 10e spin off. But i hope Xcom 3 won't be too much like that, some good ideas, good game, good integration in the lore... But there iss a wierd feeling...
I don't really like it, it makes the game too easy in my opinion, if XCOM were a PVP based game why not, but the AI isn't clever enough to handle this and i am quite able to disable the next enemy every turns. Also i feel like it's need less strategy as even if you made a mistake you can easely repair it cause only one enemy is able to take advantage of this mistake. Hope XCOM 3 won't keep this like that, cause globaly this chimera squad is a casual spin off in the XCOM universe, maybe to try to grab interest of new players. But for a legend iron man commander with 1200 hours of XCOM it's not fine.
IDK how i feel about this. I like having customization and role playing in my xcom games. Most of the abilities are straight ripped from xcom 2, the story will more than likely be pretty weak as it's only a $9 game, the maps will be small, the new turn system seems interesting and as well as the breach mechanic, set characters is a gigantic NO for me, and i don't dig the cartoon comic cutscene shit. If friaxis just wanted ideas then all they have to do is look at what the modders have done with long war and build on it. Deeper class systems, switch up the battle mechanics to be more tactical, have a mk ultra style brainwashing to recruit enemies on to your side, make the maps far more interactive for tactical use, add one time use powerful items on maps that either the enemy or the player can use depending on who gets to it first. offer larger variety of objectives on missions and make objectives change based on choices made, expand the mod system on weapons to allow for making hybrid weapons that provide unique advantages, expand the P.C.S system to something like a mutation tree with tons of options (investing in single soldiers becomes more rewarding and risky) Allow for multiple soldier actions (think sync shot or melee rush) I could go on and on. This game just seems like it's dumbing the system down not building on it.
It’s supposed to be a spin off. They’re making this game to satisfy people waiting for Xcom 3 and to see how people react to the new mechanics. No duh a $10 game has less content than a $60 one.
@@andrewgallagher7690 You're both right. The thing is that there is a clear audience divide. Had it not been for the edgy teen buzzfeed author character personalities I would have been much more into it, and I trust Firaxis to maintain the core of their franchises. But it's true if simplicity is what's going to be the idea they're testing, it makes you think. I'm confident that are many ways to implement new functions while at the same time streamlining (shedding the older mechanics that just don't add much to the updated experience) to XCOM 3. As such Chimera Squad seems inoffensive if not very ambitious in the least. Simplifying to me can be a very complicated business, one that can add much more than it takes. I can't say yet to what degree XCOM CS does it because the USP seems to be the story which makes me and many others barf.
Torque is a fan favorite? Doesn't surprise me. People can argue that its her skills that are very appealing, but realistically? Really? Honest truth is, who wouldn't want some alien snake-girlfriend? Its like that Christian kid saying he's never masturbated before... and we all know, that's a fucking lie. XD So lets be honest, Torque is not a fan favorite for primarily her skills, its just that we disgusting humans are so twisted, we get turned on by the thought of being coiled by some snake-girl, regardless if her intent is to incapacitate, or to be... "romantic." Fml… we're all fucking corrupt. XD
@@venombeetle7473 my mom hates snakes. My older brother (15 years my senior) had a snake and it got loose one day when he was at school. Mom was the only one home so you can probably guess how things went. Ended up finding the little bugger nestled behind the couch on the heating register. As long as you don't get an aggressive snake, they're pretty chill (not a cold-blooded pun). They ball, they crawl, they don't want to fall, or some of the little ones are just little wiggle noodles that want to go everywhere.
Personally I prefer they introduce set characters in XCOM 3. Not EVERY character but enough, so they can write an actual good story. Think about the best story games we have had - Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Witcher. Everyone knows who Tali, Liara, Triss, Geralt, Yen, Ciri, Legion, Morrigan etc is. You think they would work well without set character? They won't. In order to write a good story and interactions - you need to write characters with motivation and relations between them. You can't do that if you have a full customization.
@@cl1cka Back when I played the first XCOM and psionics wasn't something you trained but an innate trait of the soldier that had to be discovered through psionic testing, Juanita Garza, a mexican sniper turned out to be the one with the gift. And I didn't know exactly what this would mean in the end. But long story short, she sacrificed herself to save us all. And thus Juanita Garza became basically Jesus. Isn't that good? The one thing I love about XCOM, that Chimera Squad doesn't provide is emergent storytelling. Sometimes nailbitting stressful stories, sometimes goofy stories (Like our messiah Juanita Garza) but always something new. Especailly with LongWar 2 in which most missions have you completing an objective and getting the hell out as fast as you can while facing overwhelming adversity, I had some incredibly narrow escapes that I don't know, I probably live them a bit much. In Chimera Squad there are no surprises, no real stakes. Just clear the room and be done with it. It kept me entertained but from what I have played (I'm at about half of the third investigation) I didn't have any exciting moments whatsoever. I have always been in control. My random experiences with XCOM 2 have been more thrilling than Chimera Squad.
The roaster is THE biggest downside of this game. All the other Xcom games allowed you to build your own team instead of imposing this bunch of rotten anoying people. I regret paying 5$ for this game. Not sure I would play it if it were free.
Jesus, why did they fire the artist from last two games? The art is just horrendous. Also, why is everyone ugly as sin and the alien designs are butchered?
I mean, yes some of the humans are ugly but how the fuck are the aliens butchered? They look exactly the same, and given the muton and the advent soldiers wore helmets it's kind of stupid to be mad that they aren't doing so in a game where they aren't required to.

I've only bought the game two days ago on sale for steam and so far I really like teaming Axiom and Blueblood together. Another good combo is Terminal and Godmother at least for me it's worked out pretty good.
says that terminal is vital as a team medic
me staring at my squad with regen weave and 4 nanomedkits: "y-yeah...vital...in any team..."
Its Seeing the enemy get Round housed and bitter sweet sight of torque getting uppercutted out of existence for me
I feel this is gonna be like it was in the mass effect games were people won't use their human team mates unless they absolutely have to.
Humans are pretty boring compared to the unique and fun alien team mates.
Could be that, plus the higher the difficulty goes, the more you'll have to pick squad based on utility rather than aesthetic preference.
Patchwork: What if you were the power plug and the metal fork at the same time?
There are two other Agents I used that aren't listed, but that's because they're addons from the steam Workshop.
first, Archangel: A Turian Sharpshooter from the Mass Effect Trilogy, Archangel (AKA Garrus) specializes in attacking from long range.
Second, Titan: A scrapped agent that was given new life, She is a female Muton whose role was likely the precursor for Claymore (In fact, Claymore was originally HER codename)
anyways, the agents I chose were Godmother, Terminal, Verge, Cherub, Axiom, Zephyr, Blueblood, Patchwork, Archangel, Titan, And (Of Course), Torque
Very good video.
Very good comment
blue blood, claymore is a must combo especially when you have plasma grenade to spare.
I already see a torque customization mod and a TF2 Demoman mod
"Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well"
Torque and Terminal and Verge are a must have for my team.
Nice video pal looking forward to this any one else gonna run a full human squad without any dirty xenos
Not sure yet but I'm probably running xenos
Going to go Torque, Axiom, Terminal and Cherub. And heres why:
Torque: being able to pull injured allies or disrupt the enemy is always a good call, that coupled with some of her unlocks make her a tank that can CC, off heal and tank with Mach weave on her.
Zephyr is practically a templar, and patchwork is like a WoW vanilla rouge
Hmm, sounds like an intruiging group!
so far i did work with torque verge blueblood godmother combo but managing to work with others too
I hope they explain why Vipers were Yellow in X-Com 2 and now White in X-Com: Chimera. I assume it's their natural skin (scale?) tone, as a side effect of possible combat modifications by the Elders.
Torque is the only white viper we see as she was hatched in Siberia whilst the yellow vipers were hatched on invasion ships
it could also just be that she is albino
From the Alien Hunters expansion they had a bunch of Neonates, all of which were white with red markings. Torque herself is only nineteen, so it may be an indication of a Viper's age.
Or the Vipers we saw were just one particular skin/scale colour. We never kill more than a hundred each game so it's a possibility we just haven't seen more than that particular appearance.
@@Lord_Numpty you are saying she's legal
It’s because she’s a younger viper
I wonder🤔
What do these aliens do in their free time?
Axiom's video confirmed that he's super into human literature, but for the rest of them I guess we'll just have to use our imagination. (And libido, in Torque's case)
@@masonsykes2240 pretty sure Torque would just be shooting something on his free time, Cherub would probably be checking or upgrading his shield
Verge apparently likes to eat butter a lot, despite finding the idea of it disturbing. So we know that he eats butter during his free time, and that Jam is poisonous to sectoids
This game is a slap in the face to all the soldiers that died to get rid of the xeno scum.
to those loyal to ADVENT and those under the elders mind control, actually
the Skirmishers alone were great
hey buddy no one gives a shit about your imperium larping
I'm surprised there isn't a old skirmisher in the Squad like a old man hybrid
1:00 every Snek fan
I love Verge, I think is the best control character.
I've found Torque is very usefull against high mobillity enemies like the Ronin, as it puts them out of action for as long as the bind holds, and I don't have to rage at how they cheat with being able to move a bajillion times per round. I.HATE.Bending Reed
My favourite setup so far has super moblile poison Torque, Terminal (Because MEDIC), Blueblood with lightning hands and faceoff to shoot everyone full of holes, and either Godmother speced out like a tank, or Verge doing psy stuff, then shooting (But I think I prefer Untouchable "Beat your head in" Godmother tank. Oh, and grenades. Lots of grenades to throw)
So.... can you mindcontrol in this game or was the feature removed?
You can, it's a final ability of Verge
For full explaination verge has a final ability that does mind control for anyone in the neural network
So Jane Kelly survived the war then
unless u messed her up in xcom 2.
she died a hero in xcom 2. being killed by the chosen.
TLP seems to suggest she lived
@@twinodoom yeah, she lives canonically is very good decision. hope she made appearance at chimera
@@kahate7328 She does ! In fact, she's actually the leader of Reclamation, the X-Com branch that Chimera Squad is from.
We all clicked for the snek search ur feelings u know them to be true....
The game need some balance .. some characters are game breaking .... BlueBlood can basically kill half of the map (if not all) in one turn if used right
Zephyr is op
Op at stealing people's hearts
*Deap robotic voice* xenos..
Purge them all
Heretics!
I dint sign up for this shit
SNAKES FOR THE SNAKE GOD,SCALES FOR THE SCALE THRONE
Terminal, Patches, and Torque
Xcom 2 ahh shit there was a flanking shot on my soldier oh good thing it was a sectoid so I only gotta worry about mind control
Torch
I hope Torque wraps me up and uses her tongue, ooo boy
Good for offences, defense, and MORE.........
Well.
We know what agent Beaglerush is going to put on every mission.
What if they had a pet chyrssalid. Nah that'd just be crazy.
I still don’t get why everybody is so thirsty for the snakes in this game. Like did I not get the memo or something? I don’t recall seeing ppl being this thirsty about them when Xcom 2 came out.
People were obsessed with vipers having breasts (abeit maybe with more confused arousal) when Xcom2 was announced. It was rule 34 since day 1.
Lol dude where were you? We’ve been wanting to fuck the snakes since day 1
First we had furries, now we have scalies
@@Cervando oh friend, scalies have always been around, they just don't get seen or raise as much hell as furries do in general. When bait like this comes around, it's like turning on a heat lamp in the middle of the night.
Furries maul and claw and spin in circles, scalies back up, shake their tail maracas, and hisssssss because we don't like fighting.
Cherub best boy
Once I get to select an agent, what happens to the rest of them? Do I get to select them later or they are discarded from the agents pool if they are not selected in the first time they are shown? Please help me out here.
You start with 4 and get one recruit every few missions
you start with four agents and can recruit a new one ever once in a while.
Makes me not want to use him at all.
it's a bug
Archer voicepack mod when?
Oh god yes
Will this ever come out for console?
Trinston was here
does this game have multiplayer?
Possibly. I don’t think Firaxis said anything about Multiplayer tho
no
XCOM: rule 34 edition
Torque is a most.
*moist
I was gonna say......
.... If I cant have
My super ultra awesome snek girl waifu overlords I dont know wtf I'll do !!❤ ❤
Dx
I'm surprised there was no comparison to xcom 2 abilities
Just finished the game and I just wish I could have gotten the Snek Waifu :(((
I am kind of annoyed Terminal is all but necessary. Wishsome half medics existed. Otherwise they are all fun
You can buy a medkit from supply and get everyone 1 and then every mission you get 1 free heal with no turn use
Pc only?
For now. It could make a console port, or it might not.
Customization not being here doesn't matter too much to me, base clothes look fine already
I agree I never really customize any of my soldier's
@@tylermason7447 Heresy
Snek. That is all.
PatchWork is the TRUTH!!
snake looks interesting
I’ve never played this but will soon, but…. By what I’m seeing feel like xcom2 is the better game?
Why did they do this to the muton's face ! No agent from reapers, skirmishers or templars ? I think a already don't like the new turn mechanic...
Waaaaaah :D
We get a skirmisher look at Zyphers Bio, however I would like a former reper as a squad mate they would be useful in covering the windows and taking out targets in there way.
@@REDARROW_A_Personal yeah saw that till the game is out now, and i have to said it's quite good actually for a small 10e spin off. But i hope Xcom 3 won't be too much like that, some good ideas, good game, good integration in the lore... But there iss a wierd feeling...
@@dskpnk How do you like the new turn based system? It looks so much better than having an entire team move at once.
Torque....we all know why
snek 0:58 2:42
I loves
Cheap enough to just try it out
So, basically, they are removing the best thing about Xcom....the customization? And forcing me to play as specific characters? I'm out.
Well U do realize this is a spin off and not a full game. It’s made to give LOTR but since u don’t care you won’t be missed
@@steffanocornejo6129 Doesn't matter. I'm out anyway.
@@Empress_Theresa *🅱ye!*
Empress Theresa ya bye then. You won’t be missed. Customization was so unimportant. Specific characters gives the game more life
Empress Theresa, great reference/joke, lol
IDK how i feel about this. I like having customization and role playing in my xcom games. Most of the abilities are straight ripped from xcom 2, the story will more than likely be pretty weak as it's only a $9 game, the maps will be small, the new turn system seems interesting and as well as the breach mechanic, set characters is a gigantic NO for me, and i don't dig the cartoon comic cutscene shit.
If friaxis just wanted ideas then all they have to do is look at what the modders have done with long war and build on it. Deeper class systems, switch up the battle mechanics to be more tactical, have a mk ultra style brainwashing to recruit enemies on to your side, make the maps far more interactive for tactical use, add one time use powerful items on maps that either the enemy or the player can use depending on who gets to it first. offer larger variety of objectives on missions and make objectives change based on choices made, expand the mod system on weapons to allow for making hybrid weapons that provide unique advantages, expand the P.C.S system to something like a mutation tree with tons of options (investing in single soldiers becomes more rewarding and risky) Allow for multiple soldier actions (think sync shot or melee rush)
I could go on and on.
"romantic."
Fml… we're all fucking corrupt. XD
@Magni56 People think that Torque is to put it in Japanese terms, a "Tsundere"
XPoC Squad
Y'all are scalies now don't be ashamed
I'm a scaly who got this game from a friend who was like "Here, have the snek waifu you always wanted"
People like snakes (I have no idea that many people liked snakes)
@@venombeetle7473 my mom hates snakes. My older brother (15 years my senior) had a snake and it got loose one day when he was at school. Mom was the only one home so you can probably guess how things went. Ended up finding the little bugger nestled behind the couch on the heating register.
As long as you don't get an aggressive snake, they're pretty chill (not a cold-blooded pun). They ball, they crawl, they don't want to fall, or some of the little ones are just little wiggle noodles that want to go everywhere.
Cant wait for the rule 34
Why do the human squadmates look so uninteresting. I prefer being able to customize my soldiers
Me too
They arent soldiers :P
They don't just look uninteresting, they look like they're drawn to be as ugly as possible.
I absolutely hate the conxept of the fized characters. This is bullshit. X-Com was always about customization and what's not, and now we'll have this.
I hated every character in this game.
The roaster is THE biggest downside of this game. All the other Xcom games allowed you to build your own team instead of imposing this bunch of rotten anoying people.
I regret paying 5$ for this game. Not sure I would play it if it were free.
It’s a spin-off that is much, much cheaper. Of course it’s going to gut a lot of non-essential features like the character creator.
Jesus, why did they fire the artist from last two games? The art is just horrendous.
Also, why is everyone ugly as sin and the alien designs are butchered?
I dunno somehow this is refreshing. Only you so far makes the complaint so I bet nobody really cares
I mean, yes some of the humans are ugly but how the fuck are the aliens butchered? They look exactly the same, and given the muton and the advent soldiers wore helmets it's kind of stupid to be mad that they aren't doing so in a game where they aren't required to.
