- It's the 2019 Spartan North American Championship in West Virginia presented by Yokohama Tire!
The best of the US, Canada and Mexico face off in the West Virginia Beast.
Will it be a complete Ryan showdown in the elite men's heat? Will this be the race where Nicole Mericle finally out races Lindsay Webster for the top podium spot?
To qualify for one of the 5 gated Championships, you must be a top 10 Elite or Age Group finisher (male or female) at any regular season race (as well as all National / Regional Series events). A rolldown mechanism for elite category athletes exists globally.

Huge shout out to the awesome camera people who make these possible to watch. They are the real super heros haha
cepheus03 they really are!
yes, but would be nice to give the races a little more space
@@SpartanRaceTube It would be nice to have higher quality resolution, though.
The fact that Faye had a bear just run right in front of her and she was completely unfazed was badass!!! 54:20
Well would you have stopped and said hey instead? Everyone would have kept going LOL.
Not going to lie, these camera guys are killing it on how fast they are going with a heavy camera on hand.
They were all Ryans
Who says the camera's are heavy?
@@JQUICK21 I'm thinking they're all carrying GoPros, or something similar.
54:13 BEST SPARTAN RACE CLIP I'VE EVER SEEN
lol both the racer and camera guy just kept going
Big thank you, I skipped this part. Amazing!
So grateful for the camera trail runners!! Watching these Spartan races always gets me fired up for my upcoming races. AROO
So being named Ryan is a big thing in these competitions.
I clearly need to change my name to Ryan.
Zach I know! I’ve done that and started walking around shirtless. In another 150lbs of weight loss, that’s going to look real sexy.
2:21:03 dude straight up broke the ribbon for her
Holy cow, the production quality on this race coverage is spectacular! So exciting to watch! Great job, Spartan crew!🙏🙏
The best camera work i have ever seen from Spartan or OCR
Eric Carpenter for real! Running the course backwards, chasing bears!!
@@legendmedia615 WTF... there was a bear. Lol. Thats racing.
54:13 Bear wrestling obstacle?
Not only am I impressed with the Rabbits (cameramen), but these commentators haven't stopped talking for 2.5 hours!
Ryan: "Hold my beer!!"
Lindsay Webster is the boss! Easily the best of the best. Amazing job!!!!
Also all of the Ryan's crushed it!
Omg the bear at 54:14 is the best part!!! lol Damn, crazy ...
54:12 Bear with me, but very impressive to see.
Praise the camera operators!!!
this video was prolly the most i have ever heard the word "undulating"
Ye gods, you carry a 60 pound steady cam and run the same speed as 2:20:00 marathoners. Wow. Respect.
Watching what my daughter did is mind blowing, great run for these awesome Spartan runners.
Patricia Hadley way to go Spartan Mom!
Great coverage from the rabbits. Is there not a way to have a camera at every obstacle?? Faye had trouble on the box we didn't see that or Kent having trouble on the tire flip. Just to answer the why and what happened. I'm sure you can edit the footage into the broadcast. That bear though, WOW!!
Jeff Whetstone thanks for the feedback! Obstacle cams are in the works
New obstacles for 2020. The Ivy Crawl and the Tick Pick.
47:55 so much for the garbage cans
I loved the rule in Hawaii. If you are seen littering, you are DQ'd and pulled off course.
I saw that too, shame
I actually think that's pretty normal. The issue isn't with them throwing the cups on the floor, it's if they do it outside of the care stations. There's always someone at the care stations to pick it up, and you can't expect someone to hit a trash can at that speed, but as long as no one has to go along the whole trail and pick up trash, it's not too bad.
@@unFayemous so basically littering is ok as long as it's near a garbage can for someone else to pick it up. Ya, still littering sorry. A little wind and that cup is mile away.
@@agetori7743 In a professional sporting events where there are people hired to make sure shit gets picked up, yeah it is.
Is that what you got out of this race. Those paper cups are biodegradable if by chance the aid station personnel don't retrieve it. They also used very little of the land to preserve the natural.
That course was the devil. I'm still in pain two days later. I am seriously impressed with the elite Men and Women that did it in 2-3 hours. Aroo!
Cannot wait to run my first race in October in VA
I GOT 6-PACK JUST BY WATCHING THIS !
54:06 faye stenning is a badass- not even fazed by that bear
Espero algún día poder correrla 👌🏻👌🏻
Woods' camera is flipped for the latter part of the race...
Good job Ryan!!
And Ryan!
Do like other sports: stop using their first names! And we will never have to hear the name Ryan again.
"Ryan has just taken the first place after Ryan fell, meanwhile Ryan is quickly recovering after he clashed with Ryan".
Unless @GeorgeRyan decides to become a Spartan racer.
Any word on that guy that went down and got taken off the course?
Why is the video flipped reverse when Woods throws the spear...he is right handed and after the spear you ran off to the right down the hill to the left...
Looks like a great challenge can’t wait to take it on next year
Great coverage! Thank you Spartan Race!
I have been mauled by a bear during a trail marathon. Ryan, don't make light of their power
I was cheering for Ryan all this time!
bigup Ryan
Ironically, the bear is also named Ryan.
Give the thumb up for camera man
Different camera guys broken into parts?
This is honestly incredible to watch.
The commentators are telling me exactly what I wanna hear :) GJ
I love when people think they could “ take” a bear that was attacking someone😂😂😂😂
whats the point of the guys going topless? Apart from the looks of course
I think the obstacles are way too easy. Feels like most elite runners with 6 months of some obstacle training would slay this.
OK Genius
Why are some of the camera angles reversed? Lindsay is left handed, and the vertical cargo is flipped as well? But great coverage nonetheless!
Sometimes when I'm watching sports, I think "I wonder what it would be like to have no commentary; just hear the opponents breathing rapidly, watching them going through their obstacles and challenges, hearing and seeing nature instead of hearing someone talk about all these things trying to put you on edge.
An intimate run."
A smart aleck would probably say, "Well go run the race yourself if you wanna experience that!"
Chill my guy. I'm speaking from a broadcasting point of view. ;)
Where in WV was this? I live in the northern panhandle not far from Pittsburgh
Is the intention of this competition to be more of a endurance race with some obstacles peppered throughout the course? These people are ultra fit, shouldn't the obstacles be a bit more challenging, not saying harder, per example the rope climb, why not 5 instead of just 1? Just curious.
Does anyone have the video of the burpee off by chance?
Chris Dubensky the entire 2016 world championship race should be available on here as well somewhere
Great coverage guys.
"Deadliest Catch" HAHAHAHAHAHA
great race..
The bear was crazy.
Great camera work. The commentary is still just ok.
Bear wanted to join the race🤣
What are all the dead grass squares throughout the course?
It's been incredibly dry around here lately. So most of the grass is dead
AyeCrofty but they are perfect squares
@@NFS305 oh yeah they probably just had it covered up.
Did Ryan Atkins just hold onto a middle support at 37:50? Noticed Lyndsey did the same. Thought this was a penalty worth 30 burpees. I’ve always been told that you can’t use those middle supports. Also notice Lyndsey uses the first support as she starts the z wall.
Dan Trujillo it is allowed
@dwade 10 times easier you say, now how did you come to that conclusion. Maybe a little easier but 10 times hmmmmm I don't know about that.
who is that guy showing off for the first 5mins =)
Janssen Manzano he def shot his shot
He can now say he “led” the elite men’s division at the North American Championship! 😂
I thought, that it isn‘t allowed to use the Frames of the obstacles?
Yeah after he said that she used the frame half way through the obstacle....and the athletes weren't allowed to enter the water until after their life jackets were fully strapped on, the leading females weren't even clipped on properly and they were nearly chest deep because the life jackets were floating as they were clipping in.
10 mins in.. this is absolutely insane
Great vid, well done guys.
Water was not dripping from beater!!! So nothing to complaint about
This is a 9+ hour race??
jnathan09 no i believe is 13 miles
Anybody see the guy break Websters tape at the end? Like that extra 2 seconds to let the First place Female finish was going to hurt him? What a jerk
I know right!!! I would've expected better since it's the same guy that paused for a second to let her pass on the multirig
He thought the crowd was cheering for him..
It's a race why would you slow down for somebody else and hurt your time and maybe finish place if there was someone on his heels
that is insane!
Is there a reason why none of them is wearing a t-shirt?
I would assume because your shirt getting soaked during the water/mud sections would be miserable
Super girls 🥰😘🙂🏃♀️💪👍
Lol you can hear the cameraman breathing hard XD
Real champions are these camera guys who're running with cameras between competitors.
“Savvy vet move.”
just subbed. Make videos like this and I stick around
What am I watching here?
Why are the women catching the men like some would be as fast back they started like 15 minutes before the women are these not the best of the best men?
There's like 50 or 100 men? Most of them aren't nearly as fast as the fastest women. That's how tuff these races are, only a few really shine. I would love to see more elite athletes from around the world compete here, i.e. ufc fighters, Olympic runners, champion level triathletes...I would also like to see more dynamic and creative obstacles. But, man, what I show, I love watching these races!
why?
Kudos to camera people
Spartan Race = Natural bodies
The camera man is fit.
I guess you guys don't know what a steady cam is, huh?
Im a fan of these races but I get tired of the announcers spending the entire time trying to convince the viewers of how hard they.
1:08:39
I have the real spartan helmet. Was shown in museum. It's made of 2500 year old pieces found in Mediterranean sea floor. Completely reconditioned helmet. Must see. If any interested in seeing have several photos to send. Asking 5,000 a must see.
OOHHHH THERE'S A BEEARRRRR
Everyone who enters this race in the future should change their name to Ryan.
Hey guys check out our Spartan Race Ireland. We did it this year, it was our first and it was GREAT!!! Brian is a professional Videographer and we made a video on it! Love this vid... Wish i had watched it before we did the race!!!!!
Shouldn't Lindsay have lost since she stepped out of bounds at 1:52:18?
and the real champion is... the camera guy. :P
Not all gels require water. Some are isotonic....
@dwade Isotonic gels! The announcers are saying you have to drink water after you eat a gel. Not true. Use SIS, Spring Energy, Maurten. All isotonic so no water needed to absorb the fuel. Its a pretty simple concept known to athletes.
Yeah, not sure why they don't know about that. The athletes definitely do.
This is actually much more interesting than crossfit
dont forget to eat your veges
With so many athletes running this big event, it's disappointing that ONLY the front runners are filmed.
Pamela Gessler as much as we would love to show the entire field, there is only so much we can cover. The time splits between athletes can grow large so getting coverage on everyone is a very difficult task. We hope to continue to upgrade the coverage experience and bring you all as much action as possible!
@@SpartanRaceTube I get that. I know it's impossible (and unreasonable) to cover absolutely everyone; but with all the coverage being on the six winners, it doesn't give you the feeling that there are hundreds of runners in this race.
Robert Killian World Champion Ironman? 1:20:03 This guy talks out of his ass often. They are good enough athletes without embellishing.
www.army.mil/article/46457/soldier_wins_military_division_of_iron_man_triathlon
@@jamesmorris2074 He won the "military division". The guy that actually won it went 8:10:37 while Killian went 9:30:50. Huge difference.
@@Apofuexgaming I didn't say there wasn't a difference in the open division vs the military dividion but it isn't embellishing. What he said was factual.
James morris the announcer stated he was a world champion in the triathlon. That implies he won the championship. Announcer didn’t say anything about the military division. I’ve also heard this same guy call Ryan Woods an Olympian on the track. Ryan was all-American, but not an Olympian. Again, huge difference
I need to find a gf who will want to do things like this with me
"If you want to be the champ you have to beat the champ" --- could these guys be any more lame?
Never knew about the gels and water😅 yikes
