I made a simpler version out of CARDBOARD and DUCT TAPE! ruclips.net/video/in9JGT2JifM/видео.html
why is the helmet so wide ??. looks great anyways keep up the great work
1. the face shield I used was too thick so it spread the whole head out. The link has been updated to the better version. 2. The template has been updated so the front/face pieces are longer. You can see these changes in the above link for the cardboard version as well.
Do you have SVG file for this?
Heck no

This is the DIY way
Big fan of your work on DIY Prop Shop! So glad you’re posting again 🤩
pls do a mandalorian grappler gun love your vids they are great i ben flowing since your homeade nerf gun
Nice helmet! I also made the maldalorian helmet a month ago on my channel but out of cardboard instead of craft foam. You were the person that got me started on making props when you were doing homemade movies. Keep up the good work!
Great! I actually considered doing one out of cardboard but was curious to give a full foam helmet a try since I've never done one.
Great build Dustin! Glad you make videos and inspire DIY filmmakers. Keep up the good work.
Amazing creators like yourself, the others from DIY Prop Shop, Odin, Chris from Lost Wax..you inspired me to create and its the thing I enjoy the most! Thank you very much and the merriest of wishes to you on this Christmas day!
Incredible work Dustin. Thank you for putting your full effort on making and uploading this
Haha you're welcome! If you're referring to me getting sick and then cramming to get this edit finished quickly then thank YOU for appreciating it, these videos are a ton of work (that no one is paying me for) and I really wanted to get it uploaded ASAP for fans like you.
@@DustFilmsOriginals I want you to know that all your efforts are really appreciated by us, the fans for years.
Really cool to see prop makers using each other's work. Shows how cool the makers community is, and that the patterns work well. Great job on the helmet. I was also inspired to make a Mando helmet, but I did not stick to the pattern. It's custom this way, and challenged me to be a little creative with the finer details at the end. But overall, Prop Shops pattern worked well for me too.
These are all ways
the best videos
It’s great seeing you make videos again I remember the homemade movies those where amazing
Thanks for sharing the template and tutorial! Great Job!
Thank you Dustin, your template made this so easy!
It’s good to see you’re still doing your thing dustin!
Huge thanks for this tutorial! My son's helmet for his Mando Halloween costume was delayed in shipping leaving me about 24 hours for a plan B. I found this tutorial, and much to my own surprise, was able to create the helmet. I really appreciate this. With all of the disappointments in 2020, I was happy that his Halloween costume wasn't a letdown as well.
That’s great! Mom to the rescue!!!
Hey, there's a Mando costume contest, you guys should enter! www.costumeshift.com/challenges/mandalorian
Appreciate that you made a template for the details.
Damn man I’ve been watching bucket videos for a couple months and this is the best one I’ve seen. Can’t thank you enough!
This is the way
I made a helmet following your directions! Thanks for the awesome insrtuctions and templates!
Awesome!
A clear 2 liter bottle and window tint works really well for the visor.
This is AMAZING. Thank you for sharing♡
Fantastic as always Dustin! And thank you for sharing the templates with us. That was very generous. I think this might come in handy since I've been trying to figure out what to cosplay for my work's comic con in March. Thanks again!
You’re welcome! I hope you get to make one, it’s fun!
This is amazing! Making this for Halloween, I was planning on 3D printing pieces but not sure if I have time. So this is a life saver! Thank you! :)
Please keep making props! I'm a huge fan.
Hey Dustin, just found your videos again, I was a big fan of homemade movies when I was in middle school man, I loved that and I loved making things too and it all stemmed from you and your videos. I haven’t made/built anything in a long time but when I used to I really enjoyed it and it was pretty much thanks to you (and some others too lol) I want to thank you man. You led me to a great hobby. I hope you’re doing great. Thanks!
Awesome, thanks!
Hi I love your channel been a fan for a very long time
Thanks!
This is awesome. I just printed and traced out my pieces from the same template. Awesome work, man. Love to see the prop content
Also if you want to see the more in-depth version head over to Punished Props Academy , this is where the templates came from
Great video man!
That looks amazing!
Man the nostalgia hit me hard in this video. Absolutely loved it!!!
Nostalgia from 1 year ago when Mandalorian came out? 😂
@@DustFilmsOriginals just the whole homemade movies how to vibe. But seriously, well done man.
Hey Dustin! Nice video! I did mine following yours. Thank you so much for the modified templates. P.S: I miss Homemade Movies!
Sweet, I’d love to see it! You can tag me on Insta @dustfilms
this is one of the few diys that i did thx
Amazing build detail
I've been trying to make a helmet based on the punished props video and having a lot of difficulty with it. This really clarifies some stuff and I'm gonna re-do my face/cheek parts wth these templates
Great, glad I could help!
looks nice! this is the way
That was great! Perfect for what I needed thank you good sir! This is the way
Sweet. Be sure and check out the cardboard one I just posted too, it has a better face shield!
I can't thank you enough for the tutorial and template. I made it for my daughter's Halloween costume, she's 7y and I scaled it to 75%.
thats so adorable, i hope she liked it :)
Great video as always
Dustin i made one months ago with this video playing in the background and it turned out amazing thanks for the video
Nice
Cool!!
Finished! I couldn't get Rust-Oleum oil brushed bronze, so I used a Ford colour - Acron Bronze. It gave a good base for the chrome paint. I weathered the surface with an acrylic wash based on brown, but an unrecorded formula of browns, flesh pink, yellow/green. Putting in the viso was a PITA, but I finally got it done in time to give it to Santa for packaging and delivery. The final verdict from the grandson was that it was 120%. Even better, it is something that he can play in, not just stick on a shelf to look at like the $200 retail ones. I can see that with more experience and time I can turn our better helmets. Next project is Grogu's cradle, then the blaster long firearm, and then the sidearm. Thanks Dustin for your video, link to plans and rapid responses to questions.
Awesome!
Looks sick. I recommend hitting the dome parts with a heat gun before glueing them. The heat will allow you to bend the foam and it’ll keep its round surface after. Totally dig the use of pva to coat it. Plastidip is nice but it can leave a texture that you don’t get with careful application of pva or mod podge which is my coating of choice. Keep up the good work! :)
Thanks! I agree, I skipped shaping the pieces with the heat gun for simplicity thinking they might naturally bend into shape once glued but that didn't happen as much as I would have liked, so next time I'll shape them a bit more first.
thanks! my son's Mandalorian helmet for Halloween, turned out AMAZING.
how did you get the visor to adhere to the foam?
You know what your doing great dustin and Now I see what happened with homemade movies and I'll be watching your videos (that's wierd to say but whatever) you've been my inspiration for a LONG time and I'm glad your doing good stay safe!
Thanks!
@@DustFilmsOriginals No, thanks to you!
impressive, most impressive
can you make the mandalorian armor
Here's a way to adjust the fitting of the helmet for a smaller head. The Look at the video at 1:20 which shows the 10mm sheets. They have an edge strip to make tidy edges when used as floor mats. Take those strips and cut off the pieces that jut out. Then you can make a ring that fits around the child's head and glue the ring inside the helmet. You would have to place the helmet on the child's shoulder to see how far up from the bottom of the helmet the ring would have to be put.
Nice job sir. Inspiring. I guess the same process can be done for the armor pieces
Yeah, I think I’ll eventually have to make the whole thing!
Awesome 👍
Very good , this is definitely a lot shorter that Punished Props Academy’s one , and a lot more affordable for the average daydreaming kid , so I will prob use your video to make my own, thx so much for the ‘how to build’ vid, also I’m new and I subbed to you
Great!
Dude you deserve more subs.
I based mine off of Punished Props too, yours is a bit too wide much like my first prototype. It great work all around, and you used some very innovative tactics to get more specific with the face pieces i.e. thinner foam. I would also recommend utilizing the heat gun before assembling the parts because it really did help me when I made mine!
I would use the heat gun on the initial shapes if I did it again. The most gigantic problem with theirs is the front “cheek” shape is totally wrong. Also I hated how far the back of theirs stuck out, I shaved several inches of of that. It turns out the plastic face plate is what makes mine sit so wide, it looks much better now that I got it to hold in more tightly but I do think the face pieces should be at least an inch longer (this height was based on theirs too, the face is much too sort in comparison to the dome of the head.)
Cool 😎
awesome helmet and the printouts are really great. thank you!
I made mine out of 8mm foam and found that my sides bloated out (probably due to my own human error) so i cut a diagonal slice out of both side pannels to tapour it all back in. Thanks for the video!
I'm glad you're active again, Dusto! (That's a reference to your old channel)
Haha nice. Where the Literal Videos lived (and died)
@@DustFilmsOriginals You DO know they released a 4K remaster of the music video, right?
It’s way too wide...
I thought so too but the foam just sits that way naturally. When I press the sides in a little it fixes it, I’ll need to take the heat gun to the inside to set it.
Dustin McLean if possible, when I had a similar problem with my foam Kylo Helmet, you can reinforce the inside on the sides and seams with small strips of foam and also do what you said and use the heat gun. Holds better, if you have room on the inside for it.
@@FEBRIZIOtv I was thinking of trying both things, good to know you've tried the reinforcements. I'm afraid to use the heat gun now (even on the inside) because of the way it totally boils and peels any PVA glue nearby, but I might try it. Because pressing in both sides a slight bit helps the look of it a ton (but I think another problem is that the templates for the front face pieces are not nearly long enough. I might update them and make another just for fun)
There was only one problem I had with this helmet... the actual size for the helmet that you and punished props made were too big. Apart from that, it looks great!
Theirs is much too big in the back, the angle is all wrong so I brought mine in nearly 2 inches. Now that mine is fully built I realize that everything from the “eyes” down needs to be a lot longer though.
私は日本に住んでいます
I'm from Japan.
これは良いですね!
It a very good.
Thank you
I am amazed how you have simplified this project to accommodate minimal time, budget, and tools! So accessible!
I will be making one with my seven-year old son and will need to shrink the pattern a little. Could you tell me what circumference head this pattern fits?
Many thanks!
It's pretty big on me (I would need to add padding inside if I planned to wear it a bunch) but I just measured the outside, around the "eyes" and that's 30 inches. If it's for a child I would say just try scaling the printout 90% or maybe more. You can always tape together the paper templates first to get the size right before tracing onto foam.
Cool
Hi, thanks so much for these DIY videos! They're amazing, thorough, and easier than others. Could you please make Bo-Katan Creed's costume and props (especially her helmet attachment and the jetpack)? Thank you so much!
I can't get the visor to bond to the foam. I bought the upgraded visor off Amazon.
Still the best diy prop Shop host
Thanks! I’m proud of that little show I created right here at home. 😀
Hi there great video. I'm really wanting to have a go at making this helmet. Just wondering what size paper did you print the templates out on for it to be the right scale. Thanks all the best & have a happy new year 👍😁
100% scale on Letter paper. Have fun!
my only problem with it, is that it looks a bit too fat from the front but im unsure if thats from the pattern of cuz of a rush job for a video. Not trying to be an ass but it does seem a little rushed
It's true though it's not due to being rushed, it's simply that the front pieces could be a little longer. Also I've noticed that the foam has a tendency to widen out when sitting on it's own so I ended up pushing the sides in while applying some heat and got it to hold it's shape a little better.
@@DustFilmsOriginals Alright thanks for the info
@@DustFilmsOriginals I think it got wide because of the stiffness of the face shield. I had the same problem with my helmet
@@marianaarreola2189 Yeah I think you're right. For display purposes I make a little wire from a straight piece of hanger (with small right-angle bends on either side) to poke up into the foam and hold the hold thing together a little tighter.
can you use the medium foam in replace for the thick foam, or will it be messed up?
It might just be a little bit less stable (and maybe the seams more obvious) but it should be fine!
Mine is coming along very nicely. Everything fits, but if you cut something short you can always add a strip. The Golden Rule is to take your time. You can't end up with something good looking if you rush the preparation.
The biggest problem I had was i working out which way to cut the bevels for the side pieces - Here's a tip: To work out the angle cuts try to work them from a Right Triangle that has the two acute angles 40 and 50 degrees. Then, since the thickness of the foam is 5 mm, the value of Tan 40 x 5 = 4 (approx), and Tan 50 x 5 is also 4. So you just have to mark the foam 4 mm inwards from the top edge of the sheet for an outer bevel, and the same distance from the bottom edge for an inner bevel. I ended up making the side pieces from 10 mm sheet, leaving out the 5mm stuff. In that case, the marks are made 8 mm from the edges. If you can't figure out which way the cuts go, watch the video closely from 1:40 and be prepared to pause it.
To fill any gaps in the joints, I made a paste of talcum powder and PVA glue. Make it about as thick as toothpaste. Apply the paste along the joints with a flat stick, like a coffee stirrer or ice cream stick. Try to remove any paste not in the joints to save on the sanding. Use something like a 240 grit paper so that the surface of the helmet does not get too roughed up.
When you are cutting the pieces from the 5 mm sheet that go on the side of the helmet, cut out the circular slot before you cut the whole piece from the sheet. The width of the outer solid ring on that piece is 4mm measured from the outer wall of the slot.
Great tips, thanks!
Dude, ive been waiting for you to return
I never left?
hey Dustin great video for the madolorian mask. i wan to make two one for me and my son. question what color is the thicker mat and where did you buy it. I find alot of the mats have patterns on them.
Those are actually garage floor mats! You can find them on Amazon by I get a 4-pack at Harbor Freight for $10. They do have a pattern on one side but that’s usually fine. Aylin can find a lot of videos on YT where people show the basics of how to cut, sand, shape and glue them, it’s a great material!
When I was a kid I loved your videoes and inspired into making costumes and stuff (Im 11 still a kid xd)
Awesome!
Same
Ofcourse awesome 👏😀
thanks
Hey Dustin. Attempting this for my 8yo daugher's Sabine Wren costume. Could you share what head size your template is best for? I'm assuming I need to scale down a bit to fit a child's head but it's difficult to know how much without assembling all the parts first.
Awesome! It’s definitely meant for an adult head and it’s very loose-fitting. You could try shrinking the print-out like 80% maybe? If I were you I’d print the templates and just quickly cut/tape a few pieces together to test the size (just the paper) and keep changing the percentage until it seems right before tracing & cutting any foam.
Hi awesome vid but dosnt it get warm very quick under the craft foam
Thanks! Not really any more than a plastic helmet or other material. I haven’t worn it for an extended period of time but I know many people who wear craft foam helmet all day at cons.
Ok thanks
Nice
Dustin , can you make a darth vader helmet ?
Death trooper helmet ??
ty
I got a prop idea, what about the blaster rifle that the mandalorian uses, the one that Disintegrates the Jawas
Looks great man
You should do a jet pack!!
This guys creations look so legit it makes you feel like you can totally do this yourself but you totally cant😂
This is the way
I know I’m late to the party but can you do a death trooper helmet from rouge one.
PLEASE make the Darth Vader helmet!
Do you have a link or recommendation for the visor you used? Keep trying to find the right item for that, but haven't found it yet.
Here's the one I used but beware, it was EXACTLY the right width so there is no room for error. Also it is very thick which is why I had to use the Dremel. I don't think I'd buy this one again, so maybe try browsing around at the related items and maybe you can find a different one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000LB4P72/
can you make a bo katan mandalorian helmet????l love to see it.
I am doing this soon cause i have been planning on making one for about a year , so what tools and materials did you use for this ? ( this video is a great help for making a helmet , thank you )
Great! I explain all tools and materials in the video. BTW I have a simpler version but it might help to watch just for reference ruclips.net/video/in9JGT2JifM/видео.html
Hey Dustin can you make homemade back to the future part 2
Hey dustin i need help how do i know wich is a curved
All the info is on the templates ;)
Hi Dustin, cheers for the video. I noticed you cut out some stuff at an angle. Which angle is this and how can I do the same?
It wasn’t exact, I just eyeballed an angle knowing what I wanted it to look like when the 2 pieces were glued together.
@@DustFilmsOriginals Cool, thanks!
Hey Dustin, which paper should i use to print the template? A4 or F4?
I’m not familiar with non-U.S. sizes but I do know A4 is the closest to Letter which is what they are made for. Should be pretty much the same
How do i send a pic of my results?
How long did this take?
Can I get the link to download the templates please.?
Yes, it’s in the description of this video
Could you add a strap to keep the helmet in place?
Go for it 😀
Love this music
All from the RUclips free library!
Ms. Anonymous the song name is synergy.
What is the purpose of the craft glue coating and can Elmer's glue, or any that dries clear, be used?
It’s the same general type of glue, “PVA glue” with the same ingredients. So yeah Elmer’s could be a substitute it will just be a little trickier to spread with a brush. The various types of PVA have different consistencies which help with application. So even though they are basically the same, “tacky glue” is super duper thick, so it holds things in place right away, “Elmer’s” is sort of medium general use, and “craft glue” is very thin and spreadable with a brush. Hope that helps!
@@DustFilmsOriginals It absolutely did help, thank you for the prompt reply.
Dustin please let me know when you post the full DIY with materials needed for the mandolorian helmet. i want to make one for my sons birthday. thank you
I’ll try to remember. But if I forget: the link to the full guide will be added to this description when I also post my next full DIY vid which is a Star Wars character as well. So hopefully that will be a good reminder too.
@Dustin McLean thank you. you are the best sir
😀
Can you post a step-by-step instruction?
What size is the face shield? Dimensions pls?
