you are FRICKEN AWESOME !!
@@DustFilmsOriginals have a question , i made this last year, and the helmet was too big, is there a way to meadure the size of my head and use it to scale the print perfectly, so it can fit into my head?
Can we all take a moment to appreciate how he released the templates for free. Not a lot of creators I’ve seen have their stuff for free so I’m excited to jump into this project. This is the way
Thanks! If you happen to need to buy any of the materials or tools I have links to them all in my Amazon storefront and I can earn a small commission. (The link is in the description) That’s a great way to help support my channel and it doesn’t cost anyone any extra! 😀
Yes I was thinking the same thing!! ❤
what a chad. not only has he given us a quality design with easy-to-find materials, but he posted the templates for free. what a freaking legend.
Literally 💯
its so nice when people include free templates, thank you!

Dustin, you have the most amazing editing style I have ever seen when it comes to DIY videos! Thank you for continuously inspiring me and many others 😀
Thanks, I appreciate that! (Since the focus of the video is the thing I'm making most people overlook the fact that I'm shooting and editing these myself too! A whole different skill)
@@DustFilmsOriginals All your efforts and skill result in such great projects!!!

@Joaquin Fuentes oh well you should join the bad batch there just like you
I can't thank you enough for the free tamplets. I made this helmet (it was a pain in the ass, ngl. Took 15 hours) and it turned out amazing!
Woohoo!
Damn it took me like 8

this is the way
to make a GREAT mandalorian helmet, also it would be really cool to see a full mandalorian costume!
Just finished this and it worked great, thank you so much! I scaled it down for my seven year old. If you print on a4 paper and set the scale to 20% it works out perfect for little guys.
Awesome!
My man is a god, he’s actually the only guy who isnt ripping us off our money to make diy crafts, instead he give us it for free!
😀
Thank you for making this template! It got me really started in mando armor. Over the course of the last year i've used this to make four helmets. Customized it a bit for each one, so for reference for anyone else i'll list what i did
Twi-lek mando - cut out a large portion of the back of the dome, then cut down the middle of the back wall. used an extra peice of cardboard and velcrow to close it once i get it over the lekku.
Nite-owl style visor - simply changed the shape of the extra peice around the visor. that one's visor was construction paper with slits cut into it, so i didn't need to change the shape of the mismatched visor opening underneath. doing it again i would simply do the same, but cut out the extra curves after glueing the top peice on as a guide.
Yarndalorian - yarndo is plastic canvas and yarn. I used these templates for the base of it, simply tracing and cutting out the template on the plastic grid as accurately as possible without cutting open any of the squares. Whip stiched the seams together rather than glueing, and filled the panels in the same way you would with any other plastic canvass project.
I've made a few other modifications, such as adding horns to loki-lorian, making boxier ear caps for yarndo, a rangefinder for the nite-owl, and a rangefinder for the twi-lek. designed my own earcaps for each rangefinder.
Definitly suggest to any other custom mando builders who want to work with cardboard but not to be din djarin to still use this as a base! if you'd like a fully nite owl style helmet, you can always use the dome, visor with the modifications i listed above, and side walls parts of the template, then all you have to do is figure out the cheek indendations. tricky, but not impossible, i belive in you.
Final notes, if you want to paint rather than use duct tape, be very careful with your hot gluing. it is possible to get clean seams, though on some curves there will be a gap that you'll want to fill in, either very carefully with hot glue, or with something like bondo. Don't forget to seal your work (i use mod podge), be safe with knives, and don't touch hot glue.
This is the way.
i used this video with the provided templates to build the helmet. Took my around 4 hours but was easy all in all. I'd recommend to build each side alone first and then adjust the width so your head fits in well. The helmet is kinda big so I could cut off 2 cm of each half in the middle and then glue it together. Thank you for this video and the provided materials.
This is great. My daughter really wants to be Mando. This will work wonderfully for home costumes.
I remember always watching your videos and making stuff from them when I was younger, it feels so nostalgic to watch your videos, and I might even try to make this helmet! Thanks Dustin
Thank you for this! This is the best tutorial I’ve seen yet for the helmet
My 5 year old is OBSESSED with Mando. I have decided to surprise him with making him his very own Mando armor and this will be the perfect helmet for him! When he does inevitably destroy it (like little boys do lol) I can just make him another one. Thank you for sharing such an easy, cheap DIY.
Awesome!
Thank you for this! I made this for my 5 year old sons Mandalorian birthday. I didn’t scale anything down so he kind of looked like a bobble head, but he absolutely loved it and it still looked pretty cool!
Haha sounds adorable!
I just found this channel thinking I would never find this dude amd his tutorials ever again. I’m so happy I found this. I was sad when homemade movies was gone but I found you. I’m happy
Just a tip,
If you don't want to buy the face shield you can lay out some box tape (Clear tape) to the shape you need and use a thick sharpie to color the black and you can still see out of it.
Thanks
@Popple yeah
It actually works really well.
I use this for all my helmets.
Bubbles get in the tape sometime but you can squeeze/pop them and since there is no light coming through the inside of the helmet, no one from the outside can see your face through the lens.
I lay a big square of tape down and put another layer on top so both of the sticky sides are facing eachother, sharpie one side, and cut to size.

This helmet is AWESOME!
That looks wicked, great job Dustin!
@Dustin McLean I finished the hole helmet only the ear things i still need to do. The WW84 Trailer was so cool. Have a great day 😁
It still gives you the old cinefix DIY videos well done
I did this helmet for Halloween this year, and it looked awesome!! Thank you for the templates and tutorial they were so clear!! I had never done something like this and it was so fun!!!

Thank you Dustin for your stencils and video! I made the helmet and now Im eager to show it to my students ( Star Wars fans too) so they can recycle cardboard and enjoy at the same time. Thanks!!!
Awesome I’d love to see pics when they make them! I’m on Twitter and Insta @dustfilms
@@DustFilmsOriginals Sorry but I do not have neither Twitter nor Instagram... Maybe an e-mail?
If there's one thing we all know you have plenty of Dustin, it's cardboard! Great tutorial as always Dustin. A lot of fun and detailed and very generous to provide the templates. Your foam version tutorial helped me make my Mando helmet for my costume that I was going to wear to my library's covid cancelled comic con back in March. HOpefully I'll be able to dig it out of storage and make a video showing it off for Halloween!
just finished my helmet!! i’m so happy with the outcome, thank you so much for the template & video!
Awesome!
Thank you so much for this video and the free templates. I just finished a 3 foot version to attach to the front of a truck for parade decor.
OMG please send pics! You can tag or send on IG @dustfilms
I honestly like this better than the foam one.Great job Dustin !!
WE NEED MORE OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes we do
Dustin thank you. It wasn't easy, but it was worth it and everyone in my family loved the look!
Thank you for this tutorial! I just funished it, and it looks awesome. Thank you also for the templates, they were really helpful. May the creativity be with you!
Adorable ! Printed at 90% for 7 yr old, still a little wobble but glued foam to inside crown. My stock has gone up around here. Thanks.
Great!
Made one for a slim 7yo. Reduced the print to 80% and the helmet fits but its very tight. 90% would have been better.
Good to know!
Just what I needed to know for my eight year old. Thank you!
@LDenius-ls2bf 😀
Thanks! I was planning on making a custom mando armor, but didn't know how to make the Helmet, but now i do! Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much! Best helmet tutorial on RUclips. Watching you since homemade iron man 3 trailer release)
I really miss homemade movies with Dustin and Ben
Man, you were my childhood as a kid. I would watch you on prop shop and homemade movies, I loved watching you just make stuff out of normal objects and cardboard. After a nostalgia rabbit hole I finally found tofu again and it’s cool to see you still doing props like these. Thanks for everything man.
Thanks!
finished my helmet but I did my own custom paint job, looks amazing! thank you for this video
Thank you so much! Sincerely, A Mom on a budget!
You got it!
The foam one was great, but this looks better. I don’t know why it looks better but it just does.
Weird right? The closer the other one got to "perfect replica" the worse it looked because it's not a real replica. This one is just handmade and awesome.
I guess it’s just the “homemade-ness” of the helmet that made it look better.
Thanks so much. I cut down the helmet to fit a kid by removing a wedge from the centre join, starting at the front, max reduction of 5cm at vertex and straight down the back.
Nice!
i was looking for a project just before christmas this is great
My 1st attempt was a fail but i tried again using a, believe it or not, yoga mat. It worked but of course yours is a 1000x better
Hey, gotta use what whatever you can! :)

Hey it’s the cinefx dude... love his content!!!! Thanks for this awesome DIY
Thank you for the templates! I was going to make one for my kid from scratch, this saved a LOT of time. And it turned out really well!
Great!
@@DustFilmsOriginals So the face shield arrived and I got it all cut into shape but I can't get it to stick with hot glue. It just pulls free. How did you fix it to the helmet?
Hmm I used hot glue the 2 times I’ve done it. You need to not only glue the surface areas that touch but then add some extra around the edges for extra support. I also used tape around the edges once it dried.
@@DustFilmsOriginals OK thanks! I may not be using enough, or I didn't get the curves right and there is too much tension for the glue to hold. I'll keep trying.
One person dislikes cardboard.
Never underestimate the power of CARDBOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wow! this is amazing!
looking back to your iron man helmet, i see you have improved!
don’t get me wrong, that iron man helmet was awesome, and i gave it my best to make one when the video first came out 😅
Oh that Iron Man helmet is TERRIBLE haha. I made it in a few hours for Homemade Movies but then since so many people asked for a tutorial I made one. But it's not good.
Dustin McLean
nonsense! 13 year old me thought i was the coolest kid in the world with that thing haha. i didn’t know much about cardboard corrugation, so the bends were pretty rough. still loved it though! i wonder where it is now? 🤔
also, after watching the homemade movies videos with iron man, i made a short iron man video with the helmet, and taping blue paper cut outs to my face. good times. haha

hi great video my helmet looks so awesome
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
I made this it’s awesome and I
Use it everyday thank you so much for this!
wow! when I saw that helmet I did't even know that it was duck tape!!!
If I were you I definitely would have cut the left hand side of the visor to make it symmetrical, but overall really quality build, with such everyday materials too! Definitely want to try this, but if I do I think I’ll replace the duct tape with a thick layer of paper mache so I can sand it down to make it look smoother and more seamless, then add a plastidip spray coat onto it, matte base, and then metallic finish.
I saw on a different site, the guy finished it with SPACKELING COMPOUND so he could sand it smooth before painting. Sounded cool.
Could you possibly do the Armorer as well?
Please
if i make it i will change the visor cause i want mine to have a cool design on it but great job dude awesome
heres a tip: cover the whole thing with paper mache and then spray paint it and then put clear varnish over all of it... it looks very "pro". I hope this helped!
I have spoken.
Good tip! I have an entire video for a more pro version with foam and spray paint too 😀
