Meanwhile, the Palestinian authority, not to mention Hamas, show no indication of wishing to live alongside the Israeli state. A two state solution is what our nations need. The official opposition gets much more speaking time in parliament and a lot of money for staff. Also important is whether they are the second party in individual seats. If someone else becomes the party to vote for if you don't like the labour government then they could be out of power much longer.

@@ehannasir8464 No, Bibi didn’t. But Bibi isn’t Israel, Bibi does not own Israel. There was an entire decade (1999-2009) when Bibi was out of power and when SERIOUS attempts were made by successive Israeli governments to reach a two state solution, either bilaterally or unilaterally. The Israeli government in 2000 under Ehud Barak put forward to Arafat probably the most generous proposal they’re ever likely to put forward in the 21st century, he got 99% of what he claimed he wanted wanted, including control of East Jerusalem which shocked a lot of people. Arafat rejected it and went to war. A similar proposal was put forward by Ehud Olmert to Mahmoud Abbas in 2008, which he rejected. The reason Netanyahu (who I don’t like btw) has been so electorally successful is because he’s essentially been proven right. He’s said for decades that he doesn’t really believe the Palestinian leadership are interested in a 2 state solution, and the Palestinian leadership have never missed an opportunity to prove him right. And Hamas btw have been staunchly opposed to a two state solution for its ENTIRE existence including throughout the Oslo peace process.

Also hamas has been open to a two state solution for almost 7 years now, repeatedly saying so and often too but everyone just seems to not know still. Those 'serious' attempts to get a two state solution were to scared to even demolish all the illegal settlement some of which are now 20 years old. OH and the laws still haven't changed you know the ones that make it so Palestinians have less rights in the west bank and in israel it's self.
"Israeli government in 2000 under Ehud Barak" giving what 55% of the land to israel + key areas like wells and farm land which in fact is not "99%" of what they wanted, this is was just as clear sign working with israel even at their most generous doesn't work because they don't want a sustainable peace, just a peace where they come out on top.
