I upgraded my Connie to a Phoenix. Then realised I didn't have any ships with a semi decent internal pressurised storage. Was thinking of getting a Freelancer MAX. But this will do just fine, a little more than the stock Freelancer, not as much as the Max but still good.
I like how each bed has its own room in the Corsair. It would be great if they let us swap wings, so we could have extra guns, or extra missiles, and make the ship symmetrical.
Got a mercury , melted it , bought a corsair. More guns , has scanners as well , cargo , cool as hell. And it's drake , it gonna be more cheap to repair and maintain it while having the same as other ship , i just love how drake ships look.
Really cool video, cheers. The Drake cargo ramps are excellent for loading loot, especially boxes from bunkers, bodies etc from 890 Jump missions. Drake also have excellent ramp buttons outside and inside the ship. I think the Corsair will become a prime pirate ship and also a daily PvE mission runner. That fire power will be fantastic and hopefully the maneuverability. My only wish was that the Corsair had turning engines like the Cutlass for VTOL, it looks like it easily could. Also am I dreaming, but with the high cargo top , it almost looks like a Spartan could fit? A Spartan almost fits into a Valkyrie but the ramp is too steep and the turret catches the top rail.
Owning a Connie Andromeda I will say connie's are not that durable at the moment I've been one shotted by fighter missiles a lot. Connies need a redesign but no one knows if that will happen. I would hope they change the side turrets to a design like the carrack has for its thus allow more coverage.
I expect snub fighters to be utter crap compared to proper fighters; otherwise the Andromeda lineup would have too much overall value, and reduce upsales to the something like the Carrack.
eh a snub and a few space bikes in the cargo bay of a connie 2 or 3 nox if you squeeze and thats a bunch of small deployable firepower. a mini carrier build if you will crew requirements are the concern with this, but a pirate connie? aquilia is supposed to be second only to the carrack in range also. so will see how the ranges shake out but i expect the drake ship to be worse there. and the snubs have way more versatility to do things besides just be pocket oh F fighters, if they are to be that they fail pretty hard and need way more firepower or speed/range to bring them up. as a one on one distraction or harasser its got limited use there. if it cant break shields on a ship it cant harass period.
There are some important issues with the Corsair that really need to be discussed. Namely the firing arcs of the side turrets, as well as the wing mounted guns. We've seen from CIGs own advert for the ship that they don't intend on the turrets being forward facing at all. We can also extrapolate that there won't be much rear visibility either, leaving them fairly immobile and side arc only. The issue here is, if you are attacking something with this ship you will be flying in on it, if you are being attacked by small nimble fighters, they will be going for the rear ventral area. This means the turrets will be completely ineffective in either scenario. As for the wing mounted guns... they are quite possibly the largest and easiest to peg targets on this vessel, and even if a pilot is going for the engines there is a high likelihood missed shots will still impact the wings. Having the wings break off is a very likely possibility based on what we've seen with other ships that have wings in Star Citizen. There is also a good risk that these wings may be sheared off by a pilot that underestimated just how massive the wingspan is on this thing, or via ramming in combat. As for my other thoughts on the ship, I actually really love the design as silly as it is. It's definitely very "Star Warsy". I totally get why some dislike it though. For the price, it's definitely a good alternative to an Aquila for the budget conscious, and probably better than a DUR, but when compared to the rest of the Constellation line-up it falls way, way short.
I wonder if the corsair only has 2 MFD desks. If the co-pilot is managing the remote turret in the back, no one can focus on energy/heat/system controls and vice versa. That might be a big deficit in a critical situation.
You know, I was initially really turned off by the Corsair’s asymmetrical wings but now I think it may be one of my favorite ship designs in the game. I’d still like a 500i to be made as my dream ship but hey the Corsair ain’t bad
so many guys complain about the "escape pods"... you have to leave the pilot seat, run to the bed, enter it, and THEN you can escape. I think you ll probably be faster leaving the corsair with the forward elevator... i own a connie btw. The next thing: armor. The stats say: medium armor... isnt that the same like the connie? I dont think thats such a huge difference. I ll wait for the corsair to be flight ready, but then i think i switch :3 Love drakes design language and the interior is much better used than in the constellation
72:96 cargo (3x24 vs 4x24) is a 25% or 33% difference depending on how you look at it. The Connie has 33% more, but the Corsair has 25% less And that is significant. Especially if you throw in a rover. I don't know what the final numbers will be, but just for example sake. The Corsair may hold a rover +12, then the Connie would hold a rover + 36. And THAT is a big difference.
I'm curious to the speed, manuevrability and durability of the Corair in comparison to the Connies. Also I wonder if we will get different variants on the corsair. Maybe a corsair black, blue and red like the Cutlass.
Never. The S4 Gimbals are built in and cannot be removed. (This is because the Connie's design is stupid here also: S5 guns would clip into the landing pads. So there's "physical" reason not to be able to do it. This won't ever change, unless Connie gets [another] redesign down the line)
The Connie has a pointless amount of hatches in the front and is still not accessible very well. Its elevators are slow and will take time off your escape plan when you have to scramble. It's gonna be a dream for pirates to invade though. To me it looks like the Corsair has one access hatch on top where you can attach an umbellical for ship to ship transfer - or ship to station, if no hangars are available. That's more than enough. I also figure it will fly much better in atmo, because it is more balanced than the back-heavy Connie.
I jumped on the Corsair as soon as the pre-sale went on. Forget the "Exploration" story that Drake gives it, this is a raider. With the Corsair you can bring to bear six weapons on a frontal attack as well as a broadside pass (chin barbette, waist turret, & rear turret) so the weapon load-out is nothing to be laughed at. I have the Corsair as my alternative for a Connie Andromeda or an Aquila plus as an alternative for the way overpriced and flawed Valkyrie. It even beats the poor, forgotten Redeemer in firepower...until CIG remakes it from scratch. While the wing configuration is outlandish and impractical the total firepower it brings makes it very worth the $156 I spent to buy it. (Yeah, I used a 20% discount coupon.) Oh, and I already had a spare Ursa Rover for it.
The Corsair is well thought thought out. You can see it's been designed and built on the new ship pipeline. The Connie has alot of issues thanks to it being designed and produced very early on. Plus I get the feeling CiG are falling into the trap if escalation. There's no way this ship is balanced with its guns scanning array and cargo and on top of that it still has two medium Shields.
The Corsair has longe range than the Connie, the Connie only have 1 Medium Quantum tank the Corsair has 2 Medium tanks so at least double the range. Also why I think fuel should change, so it's the same fuel for all travel and the Quantum tank is how much fuel it can use at one time to quantum travel with, and the spool up time is the Q tank getting filled with the fuel to jump. It would make the game more interesting, as carriers no longer would stay the same jump range away from a target, as today there is no reason to go closer, but if it's the same fuel the closer the carrier moves to the target the more fuel a fighter has in a combat to move with before it has to return, and it means scouts are more needed to check if the coast is clear.
@@davidforrester3147 It's also more expensive, and have more guns than the Aquila, as it loses it's turret to the sensor. Also it has extended fuel tanks not quiet the same, it still only have 1 Medium compared to the Corsair
I would be really surprised if the Corsair isnt more maneuverable than the Connie. It is shorter and probably much lighter than the Connie. Is it confirmed that it has secret storage areas? I completely missed that in all those official videos.
I CCU'd my DUR into this. Just because it seems better in every way than the DUR. Larger cargo, more turrets, missiles, and best of all for any exploration ship, better visibility to the outside.. Though it is probably larger, and needs a larger jump point than the DUR, but who says small is better?
I got one but would like to see the co-pilot seat stay put and the pilot seat to be the one that moves for landings. I know this is a feature for multiplayer but it is the pilot that should have overall control of flight functions. Melted my Dur and upgraded from a cutlass to get this as i think it is a great ship.
What makes you think this is a great ship? Its literally got nothing but middle ground components and nothing special to allow it to do anything unique. It's literally just a cheap gunship for 4 people. The fact that they're even calling this an exploration ship is hilarious. Connie = more cargo, better components and a snub fighter for nearly the same price. It makes no sense.
@@green7449 Exploration in safe space is not exploration. The ability to defend yourself will be a big factor with pirates and vanduul being the biggest threats other than hazardous environments. Its not going to be the best ship for everyone but i like it.
@@likeorasgodYou're correct but, I was responding to punkweazel saying that the Corsairs ability to blow up stuff makes it a good exploration ship. Which it does not.
I couldn't wait to order a Corsair. Now I'm waiting for them to make it fly able in game. It looks like a working man's ship to me crewd by some rough, rugged people. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade so being able to go in the back and swap out damaged components is right up my alley! All in all this ship is going to be the star of my hangar. It will compliment my cutlass black and 300i. I'm ready to try her out.
Corsair not having escape pods, decent armor, good shields, or good components makes it questionable. I'd pay a bit more if any of the other manufacturers made a ship this size with the things I mentioned. I don't mind less weapons, I'd rather run from most fights anyway. I want an explorer in this size range, though. I'll probably just end up getting an Apollo anyway. Save myself the trouble of having to choose, and keep the Dur for any exploration. Doubt CIG is going to make many ships with well designed interiors like this.
I really like this ship but I think I'm going to stick with my carrack. The oly problem I have with the carrack is the lack of offensive weaponry. This is definitely superior to the connie though. I cant stand the Connie's interior. The only reason topick the connie over this is for the cargo space.
The corsair has nothing going for it other then firepower. If you want a ship that will actually be more useful, the connie will always be the better choice. This "thing" is basically a flying bedroom with guns all over. No special equipment to make it good at anything.
@@green7449 More firepower over durability is pretty much a Drake design lol. The Corsair is also cheaper than the Connie... and will be cheaper to maintain (again a Drake design) so you could have more replacement parts, keeping you in the fight longer... I like both the Connie and the Corsair... but I'm more of an explorer than a combat fighter, so my Carrack is all I need xD.
@@SolusWhite Just trying to make sure people realize that the Corsair doesn't have anything that actually deems it an exploration ship. Cause if we just say every ship with cargo and weapons that has a scanner is an explorer then that would literally be every ship. To really make something en explorer it needs something designed for it. Like, expanded fuel tanks, redundant fuel systems, Proper manned scanning stations, Snub/scout ship or rover, etc. And if you remove the price of the merlin from the connie they're nearly the same price. Which makes sense because the base connie isn't an exploration ship either.
@@SolusWhite It just really triggers me when they fill the brochures with a bunch of hype. The actual component page doesn't list anything a regular ship doesn't have. The "Scanning Suite" is just a fancy way of saying it has computers so it can scan stuff, like pretty much every ship.
I like this ship a lot but there's something keeping me from upgrading to it. I have an Apollo for medical play, I have a Freelancer Max which carries way more cargo... WHAT DO I DO???
You have medical and cargo ship, this one are an explorer. The Corsair don’t have the same role than your ships so i don’t understand what is your question. @@Wayne72LEVRAI maybe I should elaborate then. The exploration vessels won't be applicable for quite some time. I feel like when I start the game being able to haul more cargo around will benefit me more than the Corsair as much as I like it.
@@MisterBrimm Flat out, the Corsair is just a gunship with some cargo space. If you want it for exploration go with something else. The freelancer DUR has more fuel then the Corsair so while its turning around to get more fuel, you're still going. If you want it because it's a pretty awesome gunship with a decent interior, then go for it. Also, note that the current delivery missions give a ton of auec and all you need to deliver is a tiny box that can fit in more then half the current ships. i've made way more money just running those missions then i have running actual cargo. Since you need a lot of money to begin with to make a lot. But then you are risking losing it all if blown up, missions you don't risk anything if you get blown up (currently). So basically you can make a ton of money with a basic avenger titan with the simple delivery missions that have no overhead cost.
With all due respect, can you help me find any documentation or videos that state the ship will have a hidden ventilation system like the star runner? Im at a loss.
I'm keeping my Phoenix. It will also be the only connie with a rear auto turret. I think its more of an AND ill buy that decision because I too love the working mans look. Many people dont seem to realize that the Phoenix is the real powerhouse of the connie. with it slated to receive a larger max shield size than the others as well as power which means everything. additionally It will have an auto turret in the rear and anti scanning compartment.

Honestly they should chill on the big ships, they cant possibly be making them fast enough... We still havent heard anything about the Polaris, the Kraken has been anounced since too. I would rather them keep making sales for smallers ships for now.
To be fair this class of ship isn't really that big. It's on the larger side of medium compared to some of the other ships like the Reclaimer, 890J, Hull Series and all the capital ships
As a new citizen I already rewatch videos like these to dream of SC in a finished state.. I am curious how they intend to implement 100 explorable systems at a rate that makes sense... Anyone know how they are doing that?.. I want to explore very badly! Of course exploration is my favorite thing to do.. Connie for me!
I could do an hour long video on that subject alone, and CIG reps have talked extensively on how exactly they plan on doing just that. A huge part of why production has slowed down over the last couple of years is because they made a conscious decision to spend the time to develop the tools that would allow them to create a universe on that kind of a scale. Tools like the Sole Editor allows them to now generate an entire solar system procedurally within seconds. Which was something that previously took years for them to do. The Stanton System is just the template for this construction process, and when they're finished with it they'll have everything that's needed to create planets of all types and sizes, with a plethora of diverse biomes for them to work with, space stations of all kinds and jump gates that can start leading to new systems. Right now they're still in the process for laying the infrastructure for such a universe....... but they're getting real close to achieving it.
Oh ok Thanks! That just seems so far off.. My mind always races with how great exploration could be some day.. You said you working on exploration ship video.. When do you upload?
Actually, they have redone the WHOLE Stanton system in just three months using Panet V4 technology. So I can see them starting to put out a system a month next year and a system every two weeks after the other, which would fulfill the 100 systems for the launch (in 2023) or close to it, and they could work on making new systems after the launch at a faster pace than thousands of players can explore.
From what i was told the Stanton system was CIG building the technology to build systems, and now they have the technology, including their state of the art procedural generation system for planets that can make all the recognizable geology, different biomes etc etc, building other systems will be much faster... Even still, procedural generation only goes so far and they still have to develope EVERYTHING else by hand, from points of interest, locations unique to said systems/planet, add NPCs, add mechanics like animations to unique biomes that require it.. Add animals, water, polish things, bug test etc etc, which is all still going to take a VERY long time per system, whether we want it to or not.. The Stanton system itself isn't even complete
Now the Corsair is available, we need a follow up!

It's not just the wings, the actual hull itself is asymmetrical
Got a mercury , melted it , bought a corsair. More guns , has scanners as well , cargo , cool as hell.
And it's drake , it gonna be more cheap to repair and maintain it while having the same as other ship , i just love how drake ships look.
exactly, i love the design too
If it’s Drake, it can break!
Law! I bought a Corsair! Thought you should know as you've lead me down many a good path. Favorite Star Citizen youtuber hands down.
This is what i want to do in the game once i am able to afford it some day
You can buy in for relatively cheap :)
Lunamaria I’m on a fixed income at the moment. But when I’m able I will
Owning a Connie Andromeda I will say connie's are not that durable at the moment I've been one shotted by fighter missiles a lot. Connies need a redesign but no one knows if that will happen. I would hope they change the side turrets to a design like the carrack has for its thus allow more coverage.
They fixed the hole in the shields I think recently
I dont like the asymmetrical design but i would still prefer the corsair since i dont trust snub fighters
Drake all day EVERYDAY baby.
Corsair=pirate
Remember folks when you buy a drake there's no escape
Aye, as the pirate's code is the captain always goes down with their ship.
so many guys complain about the "escape pods"... you have to leave the pilot seat, run to the bed, enter it, and THEN you can escape.
I love the Corsair concept. Can’t wait to see it on the roadmap and in game.
Love the Drake line
I really want to get a Connie when I eventually get SC.
Missiles for life!
Great Summary. For myself, I think the Corsair is the better all around ship, especially considering the price.
Most of my PC is Corsair lol
72:96 cargo (3x24 vs 4x24) is a 25% or 33% difference depending on how you look at it. The Connie has 33% more, but the Corsair has 25% less
And that is significant. Especially if you throw in a rover. I don't know what the final numbers will be, but just for example sake. The Corsair may hold a rover +12, then the Connie would hold a rover + 36. And THAT is a big difference.
Not everything's about hauling cargo jesus...go buy a Caterpillar
I'm curious to the speed, manuevrability and durability of the Corair in comparison to the Connies.
Also I wonder if we will get different variants on the corsair. Maybe a corsair black, blue and red like the Cutlass.
It'll probably lose it's wings a lot like the buccaneer. Those things are duct tape and sheet metal.
Hope it doesn't come in variants since it's meant for exploration and the wings look the part.
The question is: when can we start putting size 5 guns on the lower mounts of the Aquila?
Never. The S4 Gimbals are built in and cannot be removed. (This is because the Connie's design is stupid here also: S5 guns would clip into the landing pads. So there's "physical" reason not to be able to do it. This won't ever change, unless Connie gets [another] redesign down the line)
I would cut of the Corsairs wings and be happy...
Warbond lti and "Hull naming"- Standalone 6 months insurance.
Those side guns are prob for clearing when you land the side/blind spots lol.
Any ideas on which might be easier to fly solo?
The aquila also as two fuel tanks and guess what the dur also has 2 tanks it seems two tanks is common among the explorer varients
I like the interior of the corsair so much better the constellation feels boring
Id still take the corsair lol
i bought my conni in 2014 and i thought about switching to the corsair...i wont...
awesome video
thx for all that sweet information :)
Corsair because I like lower costs of ownership. And the Drake ships look awesome
Thanks for the insight.
I CCU'd my DUR into this. Just because it seems better in every way than the DUR. Larger cargo, more turrets, missiles, and best of all for any exploration ship, better visibility to the outside.. Though it is probably larger, and needs a larger jump point than the DUR, but who says small is better?
I know Drake is known for assymmetric designs, but here it feels so forced. I believe it would have looked much better with one big wing on each side.
@@ThePunkweazel By that logic a hammer head would make a good exploration ship. *Face Palm*
Green but it has crappy computers and scanning. Not to mention slow and bulky.
@@likeorasgodYou're correct but, I was responding to punkweazel saying that the Corsairs ability to blow up stuff makes it a good exploration ship. Which it does not.
Hmmm, kinda like the fact a connie can haul a snub fighter
I couldn't wait to order a Corsair. Now I'm waiting for them to make it fly able in game. It looks like a working man's ship to me crewd by some rough, rugged people. I'm an aircraft mechanic by trade so being able to go in the back and swap out damaged components is right up my alley! All in all this ship is going to be the star of my hangar. It will compliment my cutlass black and 300i. I'm ready to try her out.
I will always support the connie
Is there is a way to paint the connie in this nice red and black style that you got ? :)
I’m going guess that the Corsair May be more suited to solo play.
Lost of firepower lost in solo gameplay. Maybe you have to think in Freelancer Dur.
I've always enjoyed the handling of the Connie in non-combat scenarios - but that could always easily change.... *SOON™*
No special equipment to make it good at anything.
haters gonna hate
Which is gonna be stealthier
I like this ship a lot but there's something keeping me from upgrading to it. I have an Apollo for medical play, I have a Freelancer Max which carries way more cargo... WHAT DO I DO???
Ignore it because it makes no sense.
You have medical and cargo ship, this one are an explorer.
The Corsair don’t have the same role than your ships so i don’t understand what is your question.
If you want to spend money take it, if you don’t want to spend money wait for beta/release and buy it in game. Simple.
If you are not sure don’t take it (specially if this is a ccu because the deal is less appealing than warbond with: discount, name reservation, VFG hangar and LTI).
@@Wayne72LEVRAI THIS IS NOT AN EXPLORATION SHIP! IT HAS NOTHING IN IT TO MAKE IT A VIABLE EXPLORER! This is like saying my base freelancer is an exploration ship. Which it isn't. Just because the brochure claims its an exploration ship doesn't mean that it's actually useful in that role. This is a full blown combat ship and nothing else.
It was in the latest RTV episode.
Do you have a source for the Corsair having the vents/crawl space? That's news to me.
Same. Also the hidden storage.
It's in the developer Q&A: ruclips.net/video/0k2jhyOqSNM/видео.html&ab_channel=StarCitizen
I'd like to see a competitive video to gind the ship that can be the most steathy blockade runner/hunter
Cutty black probably
Beautiful ship, I love the Russian military look of drake ships, had to get it, reminds me of flying minmatar!
Definitely want but..
I never liked the Connie and the Corsair ain't much better. The Mercury Starrunner on the other hand is really well designed and I am sure you will be able to use it as an exploration ship. 😊
ultimatly i think alot of ships will be able to be converted to an exploration ship with the right components
@@davidforrester3147 Just like in Elite Dangerous. You won't believe how far a unarmed, unshielded, stripped down ship can jump :D. It is kinda scary, since every small collision could be the end of the journey, but hey, Exploration for the sake of Exploration.
I wonder if it's worth swapping vg warden for corsair in terms of firepower.
I'm glad I have both of these ships, so I don't have to make that choice :D
How long is the corsair for sale for?
Really great video and very well spoken. I have actually pledged for the Corsair and this just gives me further reason to be please with the outcome. Keep up the great work.
Regret recently upgrading to an Andromeda. Corsair seems more my style 😪
Corsair > Connie
The Connie is just too outdated. It's old and it shows. The Corsair on the other hand is fresh, new, is made to the current gold standard, and has a far superior layout. I'm loving the aesthetic too.
Who ever came up with the bottom tower for the connie should be fired.
Hi, what's the background music you used at 6:20-6:30?
Asimmetrical ships not my tea
I have a confession.....I love my connie. (I know, everybody hates them and says they're weak/slow) Lol good video, I thought it was very fair.
Aquila is my favorite ship
my andromeda is still my favorite ship out of sc, i don't feel that it would be underpowered at all and also it is just premium to have a snub fighter at that size of a ship that doesen't block the cargo bay. i recently sold mine tho :,( ... only to get it back 5 minns later with LTI >:). god i can't wait for parasite docking
Thanks for the vid fella, I do quite like the Corsair, it's quite an interesting ship... but I already own a Carrack.
im in the same boat,
Carrack has awful weapons
@@jonfrderick god awful weapons
Спасибо за обзор, спасибо за сравнение. Очень полезное видео. Thanks for the review, thanks for the comparison. Very helpful video.
