  • I needed to add a cabinet to my van conversion when the walls were already finished. I have no furring strips underneath my wall panels so must connect directly to the van frame. So I only wanted any kind of furring strips or attachments to be localized to the cabinet and not extend beyond it as they would then be visible atop the panelling already on the walls. I explain from start to finish how a worked around the curved surfaces of the van frame and walls as well as all construction methods used which mainly involved Plusnuts and Pocket Holes.

    I'm a real beginner with woodworking, but it turned out okay 👍😂

    I learned more in three of your videos than in the 100 other van build videos I have watched.

    You have done a great job on that cabinet. I am a firm believer in your MVB method, Mr. DWELLER!

    There's a thing roads have called crown. Your slope won't be enough for some roads, and maybe too much for roads with center drainage. I wouldn't bother trying to counter that with slope. Raised shelf fronts, restraining straps, and magnets should do it.

      Great ideas! I'm not sure if my slope is helping or not but the cabinet is working wonderfully even on pothole washboarded Utah roads!

    There is an adhesive that would glue that without having to drill holes..

    How did you attach the side panels? wood screws or some kind of glue?

    • @SwellerVanDweller
      @SwellerVanDweller  Год назад

      I just used some tiny finishing nails because the panels are just 1/8" Luan plywood.

    I think I like the mvb concept I've heard it before. It makes sense. I've got to put a stove in my van think I know roughly where I want to put it but not sure. something like this I got to bolt to floor, drills holes through the floor and cut into the wall for a pipe exhaust so it's a little more committment without being sure first. thoughts?

      Well, the sure sound nice, but in practical reality I'm not so sure about stoves... they are super heavy and depending on where you are it might be tough to find firewood... I think a diesel heater would still be my first choice at this point.

      @@SwellerVanDweller My stove is small. I made it from scrap steel like a tent stove it might weigh 20lbs. I probably won't burn wood in it.

      Oh, that sounds great! I thought you were talking about one of those giant potbelly stoves.

    I take it you are going to insulate around them or would you use longer screws? Great video

    • @SwellerVanDweller
      @SwellerVanDweller  Год назад

      Sorry, not sure exactly what you mean... I don't have any sort of insulation in my van.

    Your legs fit underneath it when laying on the bed?

    • @SwellerVanDweller
      @SwellerVanDweller  11 месяцев назад

      Yes, I built it so there would be just enough space for my feet when pointed up, BUT I also built the cabinet to not extend all the way across the bed - it does not extend over where my feet normally are.
