Lisbon is just beautiful, so traditional and old-fashioned (in a good way!) :-) It's great to see places like these in our modern society where we're developing very quickly and there's less cultural places.
Ryan-1704 Lisbon is a modern city. Is the 2nd oldest capital of europe, but the downtown is all modern. Before the earthquake of 1755 the streets were all misaligned, full of curves, until the Commerce Square was super different. The man in the statue of the Commerce square is the one who had the new works done after 1755.
Hello :) U´r making a good job, i like you! ;) and i laughed with that "At the end of the street... ooh, there is a man" ahahah welcome to Portugal! Hope to know you there :P
Your enchantment for Lisbon is truly genuine and you convey in essence what this ancient city has to show. I am sure that the best is yet to come and you will surely be a star in the midst of such an exceptional and grandiose event.
Wauw seem's a beautiful city. Nice architecture and I love the green! And indeed it would be VERY cool that the red carpet guests arrive by boat on the square 😎. PS William... Want to date?
June 17th, 1665 was the date of the Battle of Montes Claros, when Portuguese forces with English assistance decisively defeated the Spanish Habsburg military in the Portuguese Restoration War. It's the Portuguese version of the Battle of Waterloo. #TheMoreYouKnow
You need to review the historic and symbolism of some parts of Lisbon! The Rua Augusta does not have mosaic, but "Calçada", a sort of cobble stone. The Arco da Rua Augusta (the arch) is to celebrate all the main historial figures and history of Portugal and, in it's present form, it's from the late 1800s. The chuch you can see from there (one f them) is the cathedral (which we call Sé, because it's the main seat for the portuguese clergy). The Praça do Comércio (Commerce Square) was built after the 1755 earthquake destroyed most parts of Lisbon. Before that the royal palace used to be there, but it wasn't rebuilt, instead, the square was built as a main gate way to the city. The Obelisque in Restauradores Square (not in the Avenida da Liberdade) is a monument to celebrate the 1640 revolution that restaured the portuguese independence after a 80 years dual monarchy with Spain (1580-1640).
You can see the inside here. Sala MEO Arena is the main room where the show is going to take place, Sala Tejo is for the press center and Centro de Negócios may be used for press conferences, etc arena.meo.pt/meo-arena-corporate-events/espacos/
The river entrance by boat onto the praça do comercio its historically reserved for the Queen/king of England due to the fact of being the oldest alliance in the world still being celebrated till today. So i would guess they wont go by boat sorry
I hope you like my country! Bring sunscreen and bathing suit. Lol. This country nowadays has more tourists than inhabitants. Last year we had 18.4 million tourists and this year they are saying that we will have 27 M.
Next time, I can give you a tour. My city is going to be at the top of it's game to receive Eurovision, to deliver a stunning show and to make everybody feel as comfortable as possible. Obrigada e até já!
Hi, NasakoMarin :) I'm portuguese and I just wanted to give you a message of faith. Look at Portugal...so many participations and such poor results until Salvador! Just keep it authentic and your time will come! Big kiss and good luck!
NasakoMarin dont desperate... you will win for sure... I still remember your epic entries... we've waited for 53 years and 48 entries... and it happened... but you will not wait for so long I'm sure!!!
That obelisc is a homage to the "restauradores" heroes ( Independance restauration), back from the Iberian Wars, while due to the fact that Our King, D. Sebastião died, in 1578, underaged and without any direct descendants, so, the Spanish king , who was his cousin, stole the throne from us and placed us under their rule and the Portuguese were just starving , with all the food and wealth taken away to Spain, so that the Spanish could fight the French and the Italians. The monument is to celebrate the fact that on December 1st 1640, our noblemen, gathered and took over of the palace and expelled the Spanish, giving the throne back to the rightful royal family and Portugal was independent again :)
