I have a feeling that thia year will be an amazing one! I like that a lot of countries are choosing their representative through a NF,I think it makes things more exciting. Also I hope that many will choose to sing in their native language
Portugal is just so beautiful....Anddd I hope this "cheapest Eurovision ever"will be THE BEST Eurovision ever!!
Totally agree. Cheap doesn't mean bad!
Pauline Chamou i don't think so
+Smelly Cat Who knows?
Portugal may surprise us...
Pauline Chamou you are right i hope portugal do the best eurovision. Idk why i said that
I’m not surprised but very impressed with the prompt, efficient and clear Portuguese response for Eurovision 2018. I just can’t wait to see the amazing display of the beauty of the country and rich culture. Mark my words, it will be memorable. Praying that Salvador has a speedy recovery so he can make an amazing comeback and join the Eurovision festivities. Obrigado Portugal!
YES! Sending Salvador all the best. And we are totally feeling your beautiful words about Portugal!
This is why I just love you guys at Wiwibloggs! You open up Eurovision so much more with your reporting/videos and discussing all the different ideas going around. Eurovision 2018 is certainly going to be an amazing year and Portugal will definitely bring together everything they have to do this! :)
Oh my word...a year ago no one ever considered a Portuguese victory ever happening, and now it turns out they'd be an awesome host!
love how that works out!
When everyone has visited Portugal, eaten our food, meet our people, visited our lovely places and monuments and museus, traveled in our subway and other means.. enjoy our sunny beaches... etc etc they will think: "WHY HAVEN'T I VOTED FOR PORTUGAL BEFORE???"
Portugal the ESC 2018 WINNER :D :D
back-to-back wins? let's do this.
let's do this :D and hope to meet you too in Lisbon :D
Cheapest contest doesn't mean it's going to be worse...thanks guys for the nice video! You always help us keep up-to-date! Can't wait for #ESC2018 #Lisbon
Cheaper is better - you don't need to blow the bank to host a good show. Just have good hosts, a great vibe, hope for some great songs, and we'll have a great week!
Totally agree Andy!
People, calm down. RTP said it in a Portuguese TV show so that people wouldn't start complaining they're wasting taxpayers' money. It's always like that here in Portugal. It will be a great show and RTP dreads the idea of not coming across as great organizers. Everyone's always proud of Expo 98 and Euro 2004, which were the best ever according to critics. The stakes are high. The arena is already there, so that's why there's potential to be "cheap".
I love the idea of a cost-efficient ESC
True, true! More money doesn't always mean better.
they will not have fireworks this year lol
Paul paul really ? OMG
Of course they will... ESC is a TV show with a format... RTP will introduce some features in order to give it a unique Portuguese character but the fireworks will be there for sure, don’t worry...
If we look back the stage of ESC 2010... it was quite simple but huge and beautiful... that from 2011 it was very different but amazing as well... of course it will be difficult to make us forget the staging of Moscow 2009...
I don't care! I know Portugal are going to host a great show !
Amazing people, beautiful country
Bitch they prepared!
(Btw might be there)
pochie bruh Well said Pochie! They are def prepared! 💚❤️
wiwibloggs Bitch its 1am I'm waking everybody up I GOT A FUCKING REPLY FROM WIWIBLOGGS!

I am now officially hyped for Eurovision ♥️
I will go in Portugal during spring break, to see roman monuments
Let's do this ! Greetings from Belgium
Hey Niels! Love your photo - very 007!
More participants

😍😍😍😍😍
exactlyyyy
Love all those heart eyes :-)
Jerry ESC awful stage
Malmo 2013 & Stockholm 2016 were the cheapest ESCs of this decade and are among the best years this century so Lisbon 2018 could be better than many think, just like Moscow 2009 & Baku 2012, 2 previous occasions a country first hosted Eurovision; the stages were massive and the winner became a big global hit 🤗 as long as it's not too cheap and there's still enough fun choreography, cool visuals, interesting tricks which is what makes Eurovision still a popular show globally, along with enough music variety from up tempo bangers to powerful ballads
I think the reason for the early host city reveal is, that Portugal won once. They want to show the biggest city - Lisbon and not an more or less unknown city. Ukraine had win the contest in 2004, they could have shown another city to Europe. To show other sites of Ukraine.
In Sweden, we'we changed city for economic reasons also. The city of Malmö put out a lot of money for their ESC, so they wanted other cities like Gothenburg or Stockholm to host the competition. Yes, Eurovision helps the companies and the region to gain money, but the govern of the city does not gain everything they put out.
People have to understand that the stage is not the most costly aspect, and cheap eurovision does not mean no fireworks or extras.
Antoine Kieffer Totally agree
As long as the acts have quality, i couldn't care less about how cheap the arena is.
Bon Bon Buneary YES!
Congratulations....the informations is verey important. Many kisses
joaquin montaño Thank you Joaquin!
A very good report! Congratulations!
Wait, Portugal is cheaper than Bulgaria?! I was just in Bulgaria this past summer and I found it to be incredibly cheap!
The criteria for the study was "summer holiday". I imagine Bulgaria is cheaper overall: www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/news/portugal-named-the-cheapest-holiday-destination-for-this-year/
wiwibloggs I see. I was more in central Bulgaria, so that probably is cheaper than Sunny Beach :)
Yeah, I can confirm that prices in Sunny Beach are nearly tripled than the average prices in Bulgaria. A beer of 500ml costs €0.50 - €0.60 while in Sunny Beach you might get charged €1.50 - €3. Next year will not be as expensive as Sweden or Denmark, that's for sure :)
No, don't think so. And Lisbon is a bit more expensive than other Portuguese cities or places. Cheap for most Europeans, but no so cheap, namely the capital and during such an important event. One can find bargians, but there are a lot of rather expensive places (compared to Easter countries, but really cheaper than most Western ones). A beer can cost from 1 to 4 euros, depending on where you go.
the cheapest in Europe Are Albania and Georgia
So that means some acts will go to Madeira and Azores?
I’m excited for next year’s Eurovision!!! I’m convinced it’s more about organization and planning than about money. A well planned show is gonna be awesome.
I’d say the 1956 Contest was and will be the cheapest Eurovision ever.
what if its cheaper?
lol - a fair point!
NasakoMarin Then I hope you like black and white TV.
+Conor Sheehan LOL
Of course... there was only one cameraman... loool!!!
But first we must to compare the costs and profit of each edition and take in consideration the budget of each broadcaster at that time and the economy standards in the continent...
About the countries participating, I really hope Russia will compete in Lisbon, I was a little disappointed when they didn't compete this year.
If Russia do come back next year, do you think they will send Julia Samoylova like they were going to do previously? I think I read somewhere that she'd be representing Russia in Lisbon, but I'm not entirely sure...
Jack Rippon Shortly after Eurovision her 2018 participation was seemingly reconfirmed on a Russian TV show. (I wrote about that in the very final paragraphs here: www.billboard.com/articles/news/magazine-feature/7824750/eurovision-propaganda-war-feature). But since then there has been silence, so it’s unclear
Did he said that Portugal as two Islands?!? WRONG, more like two archipelagos!!!! Azores is a grupp of 9 islands and Madeira 4 Islands.
Thank you for telling me. I think maybe Portugal has been in the shadow of Spain for me. So I don't know that much about the country. Other than Fado, some famous football player (I'm not interested in sports, so I don't wanna say the wrong name), there is a special sea life with a Portuguese octopus, Portuguese jellyfish, and I know about a lot of forrest fires reported last summer (I have myself been involved in a forrest fire, so I know the panic). Also there is Portuguese imperialism that has spread the languages to places like Brazil that brought us the song Au sei no puego.
Cool with the many islands. Is Lisbon on the biggest island?
wanderwisdom.com/travel-destinations/Interesting-Facts-About-Portugal
A little lession about Portugal...
Seems like you skipped geography lessions......
Vassilios Vassiliadis Actually, I did well in geography. I learned to recognise most of wolds flags in an early age and scored well on capital tests and others. Except for that, Portugal was only present when discussing colonialism and the wold wars etc. And for example the news report about different conflicts in the wold and also cover large European economies (in ESC "the big five") and the US.
So when I say I don't know that much it's like not entirely true. For example I have searched for music from Portugal since they won ESC.
A favourite of mine is Pica Do 7 with António Zamburjo. My say is only i wish I knew more. And I hope Eurovision will help me understand more about the country and its archipelagos
br3menPT colonialism is more or less the concept where the act of colonisation is considered a good thing. The subject discussed was colonialism, different mindsets about being superior, how colonialist describes other people, consequences of acting out those ideas etc.
br3menPT yes, I am a pacifist and I don't bound with colonialist ideas. Feel free to think differently.
Would love a top 3 video of JESC songs released so far - thanks!
@wiwiblogs I can give you exact information, about eurovision song contest 2018's participant countrys.
next year, ESC will host 43 countrys. (added countrys: Russia and Turkey)
you can search this information, on official page too.
and one more information: from Turkey: ManGa will participate)
I just hope that next years contest will run a lot smoother than the build to this years contest in Kiev
i bet the motto will be'' explore the world''
When you said subway i thought you meant the food chain .im so tired and hungry😂
Wow, Bernardo looking great!
Awww thanks :D
I love you guys , you are amazing
When will you upload your reactions to the other JESC songs? Looking forward to it! And btw, have you guys already decided if you're going to JESC this year? Hope you will :)
lol GURL you been getting too many Ubers. The tube doesn't cost 4.90 because everyone gets an Oyster card. A zone 1-3 trip is 2.80£
LLLLOOOOLLLLLL. I do need to work on my uber addiction
William you forgot to mention MADONNA and Killye Minogue!!!!! unforgivable :(
Awww, love them too :) We went for recency.
By "ever" means only in the last 10-15 years, not?
I don't think they can surpass Lugano 1956😂
haha, yeah - i think they mean cheapest "modern" eurovision. Go lugano!
When are you gonna react to the jesc entries?
I think when all the entries are online
Normally they do more reactions as each some comes through though - it's not shade wiwibloggers - we just want to hear from you!
Madeira is the name of an island as well as it's achipelago, which holds several islands, two of them inhabited. Azores on the other hand is most definatly not an island but an archipelago with NINE inhabited islands.
We won with simplicity, hope the event organizers understand that and dont overspend just to show off.
And ,,,how can to bay the tickets?????
PLEASE, @wiwibloggs ANSWER ME🙏
I need to know
If they said it's cheaper it means that the TICKETS to the eurovision FINAL, for example, will be more cheap? Like, it will be cheaper than last year tickets prizes in Ukraine?
Bernardo I have the same wall as you with those newspapers 😂
ahahah it's cheap honey
When they say 'the cheapest Eurovision', do they mean even cheaper than the 1956 edition? Think about that!
Ken Yamamoto haha. I think they must mean cheapest “modern” Eurovision
Ken Yamamoto It’s gonna be recorded with a GoPro
Oh ... hate it. If we (Russia) wouldn't participate next year i'll be very upset :с
we miss Eurovision
Dw, you will for sure
i hope so
it doesn't depend on me, sorry
would that cheapen the tickets for the show?
Highly doubt it :/ Tickets in Stockholm were not cheap.
in ukraine some tickets were cheap, lets hope
Call me crazy, but I think that maybe a country or two that went in 2017 won't be there, making way for countries like, say, Bosnia/Herzegovina
In a few days, we will know how will be the stage.
I love you both! But Bernardo TU ARRASAS ahahah i hope i'll see you in 2018!
Only issue is ogae tickets are the most expensive Eurovision tickets ever.
Next winner is Bulgaria
We'd love Eurovision in Sofia.
In Arco do Cego beer costs 0.50 € ツ ♥
Kazakhstan could be invited to compete like with Australia 2015
I would like to see Kosovo instead of Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan is partly in Europe though, unlike Israel for example (not that I'm against Israel participating, definitely not! But if Israel takes part why not Kazakhstan?
Kosovo? There are countries in Europe that don't even recognize it as a country. Besides it would be a slap in the face to Serbia. A big no to Kosovo!
MannyAnia Who cares about Serbia and those countries??
Ebu certainly does care about them. They won't risk big countries, such as Spain or Russia boycotting the contest. They were pissed at Ukraine for disqualifying Russia cause they lost a lot of viewers.
Cheaper than 1956? Holy s***.
Do you actually know something about turkey I heared in the turkish news, that Turkey is in Eurovision 2018 back on the road
I thought you were going to talk about ticket prices. How much is it going to cost to ‘experience’ the Eurovision.
Duush..or something like that.
Somebody who's watching Lucifer?
Lisbon it's a Paradise ❤️🌞
Love the efficiency of RTP but I hope the whole waves theme doesn't lead to them glorifying colonisation, especially with the treatment of Indigenous tribes in their most famous colony (Brazil- granted by the current Brazilian government rather than the Portuguese empire at this point, but still, colonisation was an ugly part of history and Eurovision should be a platform for inclusivity and not inequality.
It's a good point. The UK did a nice job celebrating the past at 2012 Olympics opening ceremony
Azaad Sadiq it's not only about colonisation Portugal is a country connected to the sea wanting it or not we are surrounded by sea it's not only because of colonisation
This is the reason 97% of Portugal is sea. Almost the size of continental Europe.
www.publico.pt/2014/04/02/ciencia/noticia/mapa-que-mostra-que-97-de-portugal-e-mar-chega-as-escolas-1630635
Wait, what? How did you come to that conclusion... Portugal glorifies the waves because the sea is an integral part of the nation. It's not just something it can be ignored. It's part of its identity-- regardless of colonization.
Compare the Portuguese colonization with that of the other countries.
Portugal in Brazil discovered the Indians who were still from the time of the Neolithic. Neither the fire knew much less agriculture or animal breeding.
there were other Indians that even cannibals were.
and taught a religion and a language.
Very different from the Spanish of those who killed these civilizations like the Mayas or the Aztecs.
England France and the Holandese were these yes the biggest assassins killed to steal. They conquered colonies and killed a lot. But that's good to tell stories of the Pirates of the Caribbean and Jack Sparrow.
The story does not go away but many tell lies of what happened.
Yeah, SHAKIRA! Yeah!
YESSS! GLOBAL STAR
Most expensive is Azerbaijan it cost 150 mln euro
Portugal are gonna put on a fantastic show, I just know it xxx
43 countries competing... even if Russia do come back, Israel dropped out last year.....?
Add Macedonia
*Can your react to Albania's JESC entry?*
DDRaven yeah 😢 I miss the reactions 💙
Unfortunately we all have to work and pay our rent and bills. Sometimes life gets in the way. But there's a lot of time between now and JESC :-)
The only time it was cheap and good as a show was Stockholm2016 but Portugal are not as good as Sweden. Melodifestivalen vs. Festival da Cancao😄you cant compare
Most NFs outside Scandinavia don't have great production values. The budget allocation for ESC, a one off event for most broadcasters (except SVT lol) is going to be much greater than a regular NF that a broadcaster has to host annually.
This makes me worried i want esc to be expensive and grand not small and cheap
vjollila96 we just cannot spent millions and more millions just because we think expensive is better... otherwise how it would be if Macedonia 🇲🇰, Albania 🇦🇱, Armenia 🇦🇲 for example won the contest?!
If the winner has to organize the following show it has to be according to their economic possibilities... otherwise only could participate rich countries in order to spend millions and millions...
the thing is since Russia 🇷🇺 2009 we had assisted to a show off of technology and pyrotechnics instead of music... I think it’s not bad... but a bit too much... we almost see a videoclip competition instead of live performances... coming to a state where even the back singers don’t appears on stage... sometimes great songs loose all their impact due to all the overwhelming staging which distract the viewers from the essential: the song... it’s like if we were in a great disco... more loud more frenetic is better... sometimes we must just give a break in order to absorve the music and performance... I think next step in Eurovision is simplify it and show that everyone can win and organize the show as well...
Portugal has not the economy of Germany 🇩🇪 or Russia 🇷🇺... so we will do it our way... and I’m quite confident that will be a really enjoyable and good show for everyone... I understand that cannot be everyone’s cup of tea... but there are more than 200 millions of potential viewers... so I think it will pleases to most of them.
Aldi 😲Lidl 🙀
Hmm Bernardo, it was more like 1/5 of the world not half. Good try though. hahah
comparing prices with London does not really prove any point when you look at Europe as a whole, especially after Kiev...
despite that, LOVE to you guys!
Tomasz Kleczkowski Thank you for your love, Tomasz! I’m always looking for reasons to complain about London prices 😂
Even cheaper than in the 50's?
Saturinus It’s gonna be recorded with a GoPro which the artists themselves are gonna hold, RUclipsr style. Get with the times, grandpa!!! 😁
lol XD
Last time when i hurt the chippest eurovision was in Sweden 2013 and was terible .... so very low expectations and this time 🤢🤢🤢
No, Stockholm 2015 was more than half the price of 2013 yet they had the most advanced technology so far
portugal is cheap if you don't live here. don't forget that we have the lowest minimum and average salary of all western europe. lower than greece or spain. our minimum wage is 557 euros... and most people working in tourism fields in lisbon earn around 650.
br3menPT First, portuguese minimum salary is lower than the greek one. Go and check yourself. Second: greece might not be western europe, right, but still we are the country with the lowest minimum wage there. And yes, comparing Portugal to greece makes sense: economically is the country closest to us. And we have a bunch of things in common actually, culturally for example. Anyway, you cant say Portugal is cheap. When people are foreigners they should put themselves in the local shoes. But Lisbon now a days is expensive as hell. Comparing to London? No. But again lowest salary in western europe, and lower than greece. Happy now?
br3menPT minimum wage in Portugal is 557 euros. Please check your facts before saying crap.
br3menPT vs 14? The mininum wage is 557 euros. I know. I took less than that home. So i know what Im saying. Christmas or summer money(If you earn it) is an extra. Its wrong to think of that as part of a salary. If you count with that, the greek one is still more. God, This is like telling you the board is white when its white. If you think Portugal is cheap, good for you. you belong to the 5% of richest people in here. And the country i know closer to us in everything is greece. Even more than spain.
no i don't. me and the law.
Artigo 2.º
www.aenfermagemeasleis.pt/2016/12/30/atualizacao-do-valor-do-salario-minimo-nacional-para-2017/
this is how you count the minimum wage. not with the subsidies. no one i know thinks of their salaries like that. and i also see posters from left parties saying they want the minimum wage to be 600 euros. anyway, i'm not gonna have a flame war because of this lol.
but i don't understand why you bring slovakia or czech republic. if you brought like spain, ok i would understand (and i would argue). but two countries that are like 20 years old, with a very different past than ours, very different food, different people (i met czechs and slovaks), more conservative mentalities in general... i would say spain, italy and greece are the countries which we have most in common. from those three, by my experience, i think we are the closest with the greeks. in terms of economical crisis yes, but sense of humor, social posture, national identity, etc. italy is a collection of cities, and spain a cultural mix with one dominant population. and they take themselves more seriously than us or the greek people i met(even though they are prouder than us).
Well then I guess the stage will be empty and boring
Don't guess... just wait to see it...!!! and be amazed!!!
Rui Duarte well I do wish it'd be good
This is a bad sign, Ladies and Gentlemen.
Why?
A bad sign?!!!
They are everything on schedule... they are trying to the budget to the reality of the country... nobody said that the quality of the show would be be affected... after all there’s a model to follow... its RTP who produces but it’s EBU who gives and supervises the format... Stockholm 2016 was better than Kyiv 2017 and was cheaper... so....
Just the fact that they’re keeping us updated like that is a VERY good sign
Oh no it will suck but I will still go lol
Sometimes that it sucks it sucks so good...
you dont know which entry was mine and what do u mean I wont see esc live without Portugal? I go every year and only senhora do mar deserved to win..Spanish people are way more polite and respectful than your people.
startedtrawberry Fields if u have psychological problems then go see a doctor.. You started it after all.I would like to see u in real life how you treat people.YOU SUCK
Strawberry Fields He's just envious of Portugal's win.
