SafeWrap is designed and intended to reduce the risk of injury to all parties in use of force encounters. For instances when SafeWrap may not be safe or feasible, prone restraint may be necessary and advisable.
You guys deserve a Nobel Peace Prize for this technique and knowledge! This will change the world of law enforcement
Amen ❤
people who say they can get out of this have never been gift wrapped
Next time im inTorrance! I will take that challenge!
@@MrSativacyborg and straight jacket is even worser (trademark on worser 😉)
Unfortunately In this world We have Delusional People, that are not very Bright Upstair. I even heard people say they can win against a tiger or bear..
I loved using the gift wrap in jiu-jitsu but the led entanglement is so smart. It uses so a small amount of physical force but gains a massive amount of leverage. Working in corrections, I think this is invaluable information that could save lives & careers at the same time.
I agree!
How do you stop the spitting and the biting @@GracieBreakdown
It's called shelfing. It's a wrestling move.
It's funny you say working in corrections, because I know of this technique FROM a prisoner who learned it from his time in prison jumping people.
All police in North America need to practice this system of restraining an individual.
In Europe too, we have the sames issues.
I am not a law enforcement officer or some one who would be put in situations to use this on a regular basis; however, as someone who has been in such situations in the past, I only wish this had existed for me to employ! I’ve been watching GB for years and can safely honestly say this is the single most important lesson ever! Thank you guys and I hope ALL police departments start to teach this invaluable life saving lesson!
🙏
Those passoffs in the transitions is where everyday cops will struggle, especially against a larger and stronger person. But if you can get to those positions they are using, it looks solid!
The thing is that you can tire out the larger person with the controling position, because he will try to get up but wont be able to an because of that he will give up
@@leonardonicolastristan2347 yeah, but how do you get them there??
@@Reflectionmaterial They showed how to get him on the ground in the first place and reach the first position.

This is real innovation in Jui Jitsu. Ryron and Rener are underrated in their R&D department. These guys keeps coming out with innovative products and techniques
Let’s gooo!
His grandpa would be proud, going back to evolution and using jiu jitsu to protect yourself.
Bravo, Gracie family! I LOVE what the Gracies do for bully victims and now specifically for Law Enforcement, which protects both the Officers and the perpetrators.
You folks are fantastic. Thanks for the video.
Excellent stuff. As a retired CO I wish we were taught these techniques, very effective. Rener is 💯 correct officers need to be taught and required to study their system, too many officers are out there that have no idea what self defense is and are completely out of shape. I thank GOD that the Judo that I studied along with boxing and wrestling got me out of some very bad spots, and like the Police officer stated, we get home safely. Thank you to the Gracie's for sharing their amazing system, GOD bless you all.
step 1 cross the right arm over the neck and the other over the stomach
step 2 you make the right elbow and the right knee touch the ground when you roll them over,
step 3 you make the left knee in front of the right knee and then bend it up, locking in the grip
step 4 ready to feed the bottom hand
Practice this both ways because it's the same thing backwards;
step 1 cross the left arm over the neck and the other over the stomach step 2 left elbow and left knee touch the ground, step 3 you make the right knee infront of the left knee and bend it up, locking in the grip, step 4 etc
I'd like to see them showing how to get them into position one. The technique from when in position one looks great. SafeWrap is a better technique that needs to be taught/practiced leo wide. Others using these techniques is not to be done without hesitation bc of liabilities w/no immunity.
I have been watching your videos since the very beginning and love them all, sir.
this type of training should be mandatory for all recruits
Every officer must know this
I don't think police officers should use neck restraints of any kind. My main reason is law enforcement practice these techniques on each other in a controlled environment, and the victims in-real time are usually the mentally-ill, the drug addict, and the special-needs.
@@jordanking6939 although the arm is wrapped around the neck it is not causing a bilateral neck restraint. Try having someone put you in the position and you will feel little to no restraint on your neck.
That growl from Ryron as he grabs his legs, TERRIFYING!
This is truly amazing. So many lives will be saved; on both ends
For the next video, I'd like to see how officers on the mat handle an imperfect situation, where the subject has their arms wrapped but their legs have gotten free, or vice versa, and then see how you would handle that too. Police work has got to be messy business, and being able to save a crappy situation seems like a necessary tool.
The complete SafeWrap course address this with an easy and effective solutions for all lost limbs.
i would think it wouldn't be overly difficult to regain leg control since you already have the upper body gift wrapped so you can use it to position the person where you need them. They repurposed common Jiu-Jitsu techniques for law enforcement use so they are all effective. Any one who has mat time can tell you being gift wrapped sucks and is just a pain to deal with if you don't react in time. The best way to escape it is to slide your hand underneath the arm thats gift wrapped and palm your face and lift to break the restrain and get back to being on your back. This is why they focus on the second hand being controlled, without that second hand you are pretty much done for and just gonna exhaust yourself.
You question the traditional ways while the traditional ways don´t question anything (the instructors of tradictional ways will say all the same explanation while different instructor of the modern ways have different and valid explanations). This is the reason the modern system is the best BY FAR
I think it’s easier said than done to get a person in the proper restraint position if they are truly committed to resisting….it might work if they get swarmed and they get tired, but a large, strong person that is in decent shape that doesn’t have to fight by any rules can do some damage to the average cop while they’re playing paddycake and trying to grab arms
very true. here they start with a position in which the bad guy is already locked....
And that is the beauty and the genius of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. safe for all law enforcement in the US
This is genuinely a good system. They've earned their pay here.
police still need more training hours per month, but this looks like a great system
Next time im inTorrance! I will take that challenge!
This is so flipping cool dude
I have been training BJJ for 3 years and the "gift wrap" is a powerful control, even people who are trained cant get their way our of it... why make untrained people think THEY WOULD? it is hilarious, I invite you all to step on a mat and try it...
I think this system may need 3 person squads. With 2 officers being fully involved, both guys are using both hands in restraining a suspect. The third would be able to watch their backs, keep a crowd back, and use the radio. Seems like an effective and safe way to detain.
In the uk in Education we have a restraint system called "team teach" I think they could adopt this into their curriculum
Def want to learn these techniques for the gig
The Gracies are geniuses. Who knew that they would figure out another level of their sport (and business) and inject themselves into the heart of law enforcement by developing a new wrinkle to the discipline - Teamwork BJJ. Two person BJJ teams and the discipline that will revolutionize law enforcement subduing practices forever.
Very, very impressive
yo gracie i love your videos, wondering if you could make another 6 chokes one
Wow, love it! I wonder if they are doing that here in Washington?
Mantab Master, Teknik anda bekerja dengan baik, Salam Hormat Kami dari Indonesia, Mohon maaf saya tidak dpt berbahasa inggris dgn baik 🤝🙏
I am a BJJ practitioner. This is clearly an effective and safe technique to subdue individuals that are combative with law enforcement. However, I must respectfully ask one question: how would prevent a suspect from biting the officers “gift wrap arm?”
The suspect is wrapped around themselves. They can't turn around to bite the arm. Unless you're referring to the takedown? But I wouldn't say it's more risky than the prone position
The complete SafeWrap course address this with an easy and effective solution.
@@benjaminchen8857 if you watch the last video, Ryron has the ability to easily bite the gift wrapping hand. When I watch it again, It’s likely because of the loose grip the officer is using though.
I want to make a response. A couple of weeks ago, I had a talk with a Wasco (Bakersfield CA area) police Chief about use-of-force tactics, and I mentioned that the Kings County Sheriff's office (Hanford, CA) is certifying Deputies into teaching Jiu-Jitsu chokes in their use-of-force-continuum. The victims of these choke tactics aren't going to be Rener Gracie or an MMA fighter, it's going to be the drug addict, the mentally ill, or the special-needs. If Rener Gracie taught his grandfather's Jiu Jitsu to Ryan Grayson (the Gypsy cop that shot Sonya Massey in the face), you make a weapon to the community, not an asset, and I put money on that.
The ultimate ground control
It really should be mandatory for ALL law enforcement officers to learn this. A lot of people would be alive! But if it’s OPTIONAL, cops will NEVER do it!
They wouldn't learn it if it was mandatory, takes away their excuse to murder the suspect.
Think this system is awesome and the best I have seen. 100%. But missing a key point. IMHO Most people that die while resisting police don’t die from being choked, from chest, back or neck compression, they die from the fact cardiac oxygen demand cant keep up with cardiac oxygen supply. This is the same reason some people have a heart attack and die during a marathon. The same reason a 50 year old dies of a heart attack after a car crash that a 20 year old would survive. Would love to explore this more. 15 year cop. 20 year paramedic. 10 year trauma critical care nurse practitioner (yeah multiple jobs most of my life).
"...cardiac oxygen demand cant keep up with cardiac oxygen supply." This stood out to me, because if that happens you don't first die -- first you pass out, and if the deficiency continues, you die, but since your demand drops so much when you pass out, that shouldn't be possible.

You need to get those reps in after training so your skills don't perish!
Imagine the horror of fighting 2 bjj blackbelts try to submit your ass. Oh wait. Nevermind. 😂
I am 21 years old, and I have always wanted to learn martial arts my entire life, sir.
Go for it bro
@Klausvonpape318 I definitely will, sir.
@Klausvonpape318 Thank you very much for your kind words, sir.
That's a bloody brilliant technique. But you guys need to do a demo with two women to show it can be done by two female LEOs. Also, you guys are tall with long limbs. How do LEOs (male and female) who are short and/or have short limbs do the Safewrap?
Until you get to position two is biting or spitting a concern? Those concerns are maybe the only disadvantage when compared to the traditional prone style in my opinion. Also, which is more effective when an officer is alone until more units arrive?
Is this part of GST? I’m going to Level 2 in 3 weeks and hope I get to learn this and teach it to my team/agency!
Yes. 😊
@@GracieBreakdown I’m a Safe Wrap instructor now and excited to help roll it out to our team 🤙
Hey Rener have you seen that video that happened in Manchester airport ?where a mother and her two sons were harassed and one of the sons got cyst in his brain due to kicks to the head.the safewrap system needs to be international.stuff like this coupd have been prevented without it turning deadly for no reason.
Is there any footage of the SW being used in the field? It would be interesting to see it in action...takedown to SW and cuffing.
GRACIEEEEEE!!!!
I'm seeing a gap in this that they keep not showing clearly. That's the initial take-down portion. Two on one, so possible to pull off, but once people know that it will be so difficult to get out, the initial approach will simply be met with weapons. Unarmed combat techniques are by their nature weak to sudden escalation of force into good weapons use.
Now, obviously, two lifelong grapplers can take down a guy who doesn't knowhow to fight, and who is playing by good social rules. No problem. But they keep starting on the ground, in the wrap, as if that portion is the key, when it cannot be.
* Don't get me wrong here. I'm getting picky, because I think this could really work. Anything that prevents abuse of force is a good idea.
Good stuff
My only concern is how would you combat against someone who isn't afraid to BITE or SPIT?
The issue is trying to get the person into that wrist control in the first place. May be easy for someone like them but for the average person that's a very difficult position to get them into.
The complete SafeWrap course address this with an easy and effective solution.
Can you pls show how to get into the savewrap position in a good way?
🔥🔥
Show it on Gordon Ryan pls!
That's fine on the mats, but on asphalt in 120 degrees. That burns and hurts. So how do you know when you have taken the fight out of them or they're struggling cause the asphalt is burning them? Cooperate quicker, or run faster are my solutions.
I wonder if a 50kg woman can also apply this to a 120kg male. No hate, just curious. Obviously might be tougher but still possible? Thanks. 🙏🏻
I think it would still be a struggle. But maybe she can take the legs instead. That feels like the less physically demanding position because if they are 120 kg, she can use the long legs as leverage. Would definitely want more training for her on this, though
Tougher but still possible. Certainly 10x more reliable than conventional prone restraint under the same circumstances.
@@GracieBreakdown totally agree, thanks for response. Great job, greets from Spain!
Getting someone into a straitjacket is the real problem
Is this available in Las Vegas not just for metro police? How about any government security entities?
Yes!
Question....the entire key is getting someone to position one....and so what is the teaching of how to get an out-of-control-someone into the starting point where the bad guy is already controlled? This lesson starts with the bad guy already under control...which obviously isn't realistic at all so just honest question as asked above.
How can I get certified to teach this? I would love to take it to my community and train First Responders.
SafeWrapSystem.com
SafeWrap website.
Why does the SafeWrap start with hands and feet already controlled, while the prone restraint scenario starts with zero grips and the person being restrained with his hands hidden? The comparison is utterly invalid. For the comparisons to be valid, the prone restraint should start with full control of the hands and legs as well. Prone restraint is just as hard, if not harder, to get out of if you let the restraining "officers" get perfect grips first, as you did with the SafeWrap. The difficulty has always been about getting to that perfect position with the perfect grips, not holding someone down once you have them.
A major issue with the first position of SafeWrap is the threat of spitting. It's something a lot of people do when they have no other options left and the person holding the hands is extremely susceptible to getting spit right in the face.
its very easy to avoid getting spit on imo. move your head close and hide it behind his head and he cant spit on you anymore.
They also thought about a way to get to the position, its not advertised as much though. From the standing position into the safe wrap is possible, but of course real situation are difficult. They are difficult now aswell. The safe wrap is a strong tool on the belt of the officiers.
Other demonstrations address this with equal starting points. NYPD video for example.
@@GracieBreakdown Do those demonstration have BJJ black belts as the person being restrained in both scenarios?
It works great when you got two trained men
The Gracies gonna make a big buck selling the training to every agency 😂
Why do they always start with the perp conveniently giving himself to held at stage 1. Why not show how to get the guy into stage 1.
The leg wrap reminds me of Khabib's leg elevation
What happens with gst...hpw do you get em into safewrap position
The complete SafeWrap course address this with an easy and effective solution.
Cool commercial...
I could 100% get out of that wrist control.. Still probably be screwed after attempt 3-4 and adrenaline dumped 😂
hahaha sure you can bud
That's the beauty with SafeWrap, you can free yourself from any one grip, but remain trapped by all the remaining grips!
This is brilliant it seems obvious why hasn't this been the protocol? I guess that is the mark of all great inventions. But how do you get to position one? Also the other thing is this only works on slender people i would imagine. Most fat people cant bend in those directions like you arent going to wrap a big boys legs like that.
Not sure how the hell people end up on the ground in the first place..
Speaking from experience, (I was framed 😅😅)once you got 2 cops telling you, you’re under arrest, YOU ARE BURNT!!
Turn your ass around and go to jail.
You run your game long b4 they use the big A word.
Criminals used to have honor, the world’s going to hell i tells ya!!
Now go to Compton n try that shit w a 6”7 thug.. Don’t forget to film and post..
What if he does not cooperate? What if the leg is not flexible enough to cross over without hurting oder damaging the person?
What if the police will never have enough ressources and politics will never give the right ressources to traing officers to be good martial artists at the ground?
This is George Floyd making history...
Rener, why did you say knee on neck can strangle? We both know neither the carotids or airways are being obstructed there (and that George Floyd's brain wasn't hypoxic as per autopsy).
Cool story bro.
That's why you dont ever let them mfers near you or around you. As soon as they start trying to circle you need to find an exit
how does one get them to that p1
So the bad guys aren’t watching this
