I have been trying to apply for LAPD unfortunately I don't have the best background so I DQed might join the national guard just to show them I'm serious but yeah they would rather hire officers who are perfect and clean on paper and at least pass the minimum qualifications just because they need people out on the streets. I watched one body cam video of 2 shooting incidents and the team tactics from 2019 in comparison to the recent shooting incident from a month ago was completely different you can tell who has been training more effectively and efficiently.

I realize this is for cops but I would not want to be on the ground in a real street situation. It is very dangerous. Should only be used if you KNOW that the guy you are subduing has no friends or allies (girlfriends, etc) in the area who could come in on you.
I feel bad for NYPD being screwed over by dimwit politicians/ clueless citizen review boards who place ridiculous restrictions, such as the diaphragm law, on their arrest and control techniques because the politicians themselves have never had to arrest a combative suspect. I do hope this helps the actual officers out there.
The problem is that most police department aren't going to spend the time and money to teach everyone this and the people who learn aren't going to use it enough to actually retain it
I think we need more BJJ in police stations it should be the go to combat to deal with individuals if situations start going south. And we need BJJ in Schools so kids can have the confidence to protect themselves and stop bulllies.

This new generation of cops are eager to learn. Most are into fitness and some sort of martial arts. Not to mention they’re afraid to get sued or jammed up. They’ll buy into it, especially with the name Gracie behind it.
You ever train Bjj? I’ve trained with 400lbs guys and wrapped them in a “gift wrap” which is very similar to this and was able to control the body… btw I’m 180lbs
If everyone were to get trained, then this won't be an issue. I worked on a special task force (6 members) and we all trained in BJJ and GST. We were able to work together and seldom had any issues. BUT, you are 100% correct if not everyone is trained. The untrained person causes more issues than if I were by myself

Let's make it safe for people who dont cooperate with law enforcement. Now you don't have to worry about getting hurt so anyone can not cooperate every time. This method is only good so the officer won't lose a nonsense lawsuit so easily. Another thing is this looks like multiple officers need to do it together so it doesn't work if you are by yourself. What really needs to happen is if someone is not cooperating and then something goes wrong then the officer is not responsible for the outcome. If someone is cooperating and then something goes wrong then the officer is responsible. People's safety should not be reliant on the physical capabilities of an officer or a group of officers. The person who is not cooperating is the one creating a dangerous situation. Period.

Looks great on the mat in controlled environment. Has to be field tested. All kinds of unforeseen variables Like homeless suspects who are extremely dirty and stink. I mean no offense But Who wants to hold that person close? Suspects covered in blood or other bodily fluids. Suspects who spit and bite. Seriously, this looks great but only officers in the field will be able to give an honest assessment. Our department taught some new tactics a few years ago and as far as I know, nobody I ever used them because they were impractical. Time will tell.

The entire point of the technique is that it's a multiple officer technique. If you're going to have a reservation with a technique, it's best if you at least understand what it's meant for. Complaining that it requires two officers is like complaining driving to the store involves a car. That's the point of driving to the store, you have a car.
A lot of marketing hype! I hope for all the LEO that this does actually work in a tense, hi adrenaline, drug induced state situation where you don’t know if the offender has a weapon or not! One key thing I heard said that stands true for any of this type of training is communication and having all on the same page! I still strongly feel that chokes should be trained and allowed for restraint . Many techniques will work if trained repeatedly and communicated. As for the 1K challenge you if anyone lets two trained persons apply a restraint/submission move No one would be able to get out.

Looks a lot like a modified gift wrap in bjj.. not sure why it took this long to develop this since the technique has been in bjj for as long as I can remember. Either way, good to see bjj being taught. IMHO, candidates should be required to earn a blue belt in bjj and have a basic understanding of grappling techniques. This would solve A LOT of the issues we see today with deadly force and officers who can't control suspects.

Ive been a big proponent that there should be a boxing/muaythai version of bjj for a while now. What i mean by that is martial arts like bjj & judo & others have a billion moves to teach you & these take decades to learn but boxing & muay have about a dozen moves to learn. Thats it. You learn that dozen then you repeat in practice every day. Why not just have a version of bjj that teaches you a dozen good moves that you practice on repeat? This would be great for cops & military to learn since they dont have years to master a billion moves. And if were being honest most of the guys i watch in mma matches use the SAME three or four bjj moves. So why not just give people a crib notes version? Now THAT would be a great mma gym. You learn a dozen bjj & muaythai moves & thats it. 👍
the problem isnt the volume of moves a cop has to learn, its that (and rener's research shows) most municipalities do absolute a shit job with training and reinforcing skills of cops.

The lieutenant with 19.5 years, probably counting off the last half year to retire, also he said there will be less lawsuits. What about safety for the officer? I studied martial arts from 1968-2014. If not training regularly the person on the defensive generally gets hurt. The 2 month self defense courses are a recipe for disaster. I hope this system works to keep everyone safe.
It's not a single officer technique. And regardless of the size of the officers, it maximizes their chance while staying inside SOPs and case law. Yeah, too bigger officers will make it easier, two smaller officers will make it harder. Regardless, good technique improves everyone's chances.

And there are plenty of cases where people are noncompliant because they are having a mental health episode or are too far under the influence to comply. A lot of times, police are trying to subdue people for their own safety. And, also, you know, humanity.
Hey guys, I commend you on trying to teach an old dog a new trick, however, most cops will not employ this technique. If the only time cops have to learn this technique is when they go to intac training, this is a lost cause. As you guys have and continue to train, a lot of cops will not. And trust me, the ADA or corporation counsel will find a way to hammer the cop, even if they employ this technique.

I have been saying for the past 10 years teach NYPD Brazilian Jujitsu and amateur wrestling (for leg sweeps, leg locks, etc.....)

The lieutenant with 19.5 years, probably counting off the last half year to retire, also he said there will be less lawsuits. What about safety for the officer? I studied martial arts from 1968-2014. If not training regularly the person on the defensive generally gets hurt. The 2 month self defense courses are a recipe for disaster. I hope this system works to keep everyone safe.

And regardless of the size of the officers, it maximizes their chance while staying inside SOPs and case law.
Yeah, too bigger officers will make it easier, two smaller officers will make it harder. Regardless, good technique improves everyone's chances.

And there are plenty of cases where people are noncompliant because they are having a mental health episode or are too far under the influence to comply. A lot of times, police are trying to subdue people for their own safety. And, also, you know, humanity.

Hey guys, I commend you on trying to teach an old dog a new trick, however, most cops will not employ this technique. If the only time cops have to learn this technique is when they go to intac training, this is a lost cause. As you guys have and continue to train, a lot of cops will not. And trust me, the ADA or corporation counsel will find a way to hammer the cop, even if they employ this technique.
