    This is a great video guys! People need to hear this stuff! I have been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 15 years now. I have trained with several black belts including Ryron. I have been a cop for 22 years so I have been in a struggle or two. I have trained our SRT team along with other members of my agency in Brazilian techniques and have participated in live 100% rolls with them. I was surprised at how much difficulty I had in dealing with their unorthodox, full on aggression. I had trained with much bigger, stronger, more athletic Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the past and did not have that much trouble. I totally agree with Renner and Ryron when they say they would rather fight a jiu jitsu practitioner because they know what to expect. People need to understand that in a street fight you are presented with something much different than what you prepare for in the gym. When we practice and compete with other Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioners, we show each other respect and train anywhere from 50%to 85%. We also know that this training session will last for anywhere from five to eight minutes, so we pace ourselves for that. A street fight is far far different. You will be presented with 100% aggression for one or two minutes until the person is gassed... and they will be punching. I recommend that everybody who is training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu take part in a fight simulation training session at least once a week. Keep training and be safe out there guys...

      Almost immediately, I find the obvious weakness of BJJ, it doesn't defend the crotch. In a real fight, the opponent will try to attack the crotch, which would end the fight instantly. BJJ on the other hand only try to protect the head but expose the crotch.

      this is exactly why all the "schools" are dangerous breeding grounds for those not understanding the "sport" from reality. While the details are vague but applicable, police officers are all taught to pick up their brass after shooting. Years later, many were found dead from a gunfight because all of their brass was collected in their pocket. In the fitness world, this is precisely why 1 - the weights used are relative to your height, 2 - muscles become stronger independently, 3 - then as a group, 4 - They all must work together, such as an obstacle course.

    No idea how I got here but this was an hour well spent. Inspiring, survival is winning. As a non practitioner I'd never want to be drawn into a fight and become the aggressor. The best possible outcome should always be that whatever emotion that sparked the aggression is controlled and managed until it has passed into an outcome where both parties have now won and no one has been hurt. Thank you both for this.

    A LONG time ago, I went to pick up my cousin from High School. And in the parking lot there were a couple of kids standing a circle with phones out recoding a verbal altercation between, a young slim male with his shirt off in a fighting stance and a chubby male who was standing quietly with his hands in his pockets and book bag on. As I slow down to drive through the crowd who were block the lane of the parking lot. They broke it up and start walking away while the slim male was yelling at the chubby male calling him rude and vulgar names. Non the less they all left and went home. I told my cousin “dude this is why, I prefer to come pick you up the days your mom is busy, I don’t want you getting into shit like that. I’m surprised the chubby kid didn’t snap the slim kid though, he could have taken him, maybe the slim kid had hands? Idk”.
    Fast forward 2 weeks, my wife and I buy a Groupon to our our local BJJ gym, and GUESS who is an instructor Brown Belt at the BJJ school, teaching kids BJJ????
    YUP the SAME chubby kid who had his hands in his pocket, wearing his book back from the parking lot.
    Dude is badass is BJJ yet is HUMBLE AF.
    That moment stuck with me for life. To see how you must always know you’re own self worth and don’t have to prove anything to anyone.

I believe the Gracies humbleness and ego-less personalities are the true art of Jiu Jitsu and makes a man a real man. No real Woman wants to brag about their man beating up a guy at the bar they would rather know that their man (who trains regularily and is physically fit) could have easily destroyed they other guy at the bar, but walked away and lived another day to be a Father and a Husband by knowing to defuse a fight that doesn't need to happen. You are a Hero to many and your Families Legend will live forever. Thank you Gracies for being amazing people.

    As far as I am concerned, as long as neither man had to be hospitalized, things are ok for both of these guys. But great video by the Ryron and Rener.
    I have only had to use my training once in a street confrontation and everything they say is correct. I was in a position of "the zone" and didn't want to physically fight the guy. It was an avoidable confrontation but the guy was pushing a teenager (they were not related, the guy was just being a jerk to the kid) and threatening his girlfriend. Seeing that an adult was abusing a minor, I couldn't stand for it and tried to stop the situation by just pleading with him to stop.
    He responds to my assistance by pushing me and I took him down with a single leg by countering his follow up telegraph right haymaker, took his back and I did not have to throw punches when I took the back and he could not do anything by scream like a baby. I told my friend who was accompanying me to call the police and I had his back through the whole duration and that was that.

    I love the Gracies but they say somehting here that i don't agree with. They say here that if an agressive guy walks toward you and gets very close in your "red Zone" that you can firmly put your hands on their arms(biceps) and say "hey, are we cool?" in an attempt to diffuse the situation. Typically, once EITHER person actually touches the other the fight is on. If you are trying to completely avoid a fight, why would you actually touch or grab the other guy? Am I incorrect here? The Gracies are fantastic and I love them and their art and have nothing but the highest respect for them as people and martial artists, but I am confused.

    • @MindBat
      @MindBat 6 лет назад +19

      That is true, but It also depends on the aggressiveness or passiveness of the individual. We must feel the energy of the other person in order to read his intentions. Ultimately, you still want to be one or two steps ahead in position to protect yourself and stay safe and sometimes that requires closing the distance and making contact with the arms.

    • @EazyBoBeezy
      @EazyBoBeezy 6 лет назад +17

      The reason they said “redzone” is because once the person is in you redzone it’s too late at that point if you’ve let them get that close. I believe what they mean if it gets to the point where you couldn’t diffuse and they get that close get control before they have a chance to strike. That’s how I took it atleast

    In the Army Infantry, saw a Gracie Purple belt, Pvt. Welch, got into a fight w/a bully w/collegiate wrestling background, Pvt Creech. Welch had Creech in a rear naked stranglehold. Creech's buddies came from the latrine, began soccer kicking and stomping Welch's head and neck before we could drive them all back. In two seconds they got in enough shots they sent Welch to the E.R. w/severe injuries y traumatic brain injuries. Welch almost died cause he couldn't abandon his position quickly enough to escape, being on his back w/Creech ontop, Welch's heel hooks in and rear naked stranglehold in deep. When it began noone was around but the two fighters. After everyone heard sneakers scuffling y squeaking, guys went to investigate, so I learned that day, I'm only using Jiujitsu to escape the ground y escape holds, to get to my feet or remain on my feet. Ground submissions/ground fighting is for competitive duels only...I've never seen fair fights in daily life outside of combat sports. Fight any bully not of your race, expect to get jumped. Go to lockup, expect to get jumped. Stand up to anyone clicked up in the street, expect to get jumped. Stand up to anyone whose family is in the area, you're getting jumped. Good example is the Brazilian catch wrestler Rufino Dos Santos who got jumped by Carlos, Helio, a steel pipe and their brothers outside of the wrestler's place of work. He got crippled despite having beaten a Gracie brother prior in a duel some days before. Street fights aren't duels. Duels aren't self defense. Fighting duels in a garage or cage doesn't relate to what's waiting for you if you get targeted by predators, street gangs, a mob of bigots or go to lock-up in prison. If you're a cop trying to subdue a single suspect BJJ is great. Self defense, military close combat, SOC-P Combatives is better than Jiujitsu, in my experience. And I'm a Jiujitsuka. But I'm not fighting or submitting noone on da ground.

      @kylethekidable 4 года назад +2

      All very very true things man, that's why I only learn BJJ loosely, to have the skillset needed to control things on the ground to get back up. The two biggest things I tend to see from BJJ users in fights is 1. Being too comfortable on the ground and 2. Going for the big, grand submissions on people in a street fight. In a case like your story, he went with a rear naked, based on how deep it was and what was presented, it was too inefficient when it really mattered. If I'm in a street fight and on the ground, I'm looking to get back up first and secondly, looking to work any small joint manipulations I can, anything that's tourney illegal. Can't punch me as effectively if I snap half his fingers, will hurt himself far more if I break his wrist.
      The guy in this video did decently with what training he had, but this was a pure case of being lucky the black guy had no clue what he was doing, and his buddies didn't jump in any more than trying to break it up because he could've either been jumped or slammed in seconds if things were even slightly different

    • @IvanMorales-tf3kc
      @IvanMorales-tf3kc 4 года назад +2

      Totally agree. I work as a guard on a teenagers correctional un Colombia and BJJ is great when You are submitting an agressive dude even ir his armed with a knife, but that defitively works only because You work with a team. When dude has it's friends around him, You are definitively not using BJJ and if You go to the ground odds are You are ending at they hospital. One of the most sucessful self defense technique is RNC from standing position if the guy is unarmed. If dude has a weapon You cannot be a purist, just need to survive and work the next day.
      Sorry for My English I'm not a native speaker!

    This video also demonstrates a weakness of BJJ in a street fight situation - where you may be up against multiple opponents. Once you're on the ground - the others can curb stomp you with impunity. No matter how well you have locked down the one opponent, his buddies will mess you up.

    I love your channel.. This is a great video. I'm a 3rd degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a white belt practitioner of BJJ. And I can tell you that the same thing happens in other martial arts.. The fighting done in karate or Tae Kwon do tournaments is counter productive to the art of street self defense which is what we teach in our school. I tried a tournament when I was a teenager and I was immediately disqualified because I punched my opponent 'illegally' and knocked him out. So I lost the point and the match, but won the fight. Bummer...never did another tournament again and we don't encourage our students to do them for the same reason you point out in this video. Keep up the great work guys!!

      I would honestly train muay thai or kickboxing, wrestling, takedown defense, judo, and sport jiu jitsu all together.
      As far as the other stuff the gracie's teach, you can learn conflict resolution or deescalation of a confrontation, from a book about the subject.

    It frustrates me when people put one fighter at a disadvantage when trying to split up a fight, it leaves them open to cheap shots from their opponent.
    I think if two adult men decide they want to fight each other then it's their choice, their life, leave them too it and supervise to ensure it doesn't go too far. But if you do want to split it up, make sure both are controlled because that was just really unfair. The guy deserved to be chocked out, he threw the first punch.

      @GenuinelyFuriousNigger Ayyylmaooo I was responding to the glaring insecurity of the poster: the white boy is trying to summon the white race to a war in response to a video about two dumb asses fighting-- it's pathetic and shows that he obviously has something against blk ppl (hence, Blacked.com lol).
      Second, I don't give a damn about race because I live as an individual-- I stand on my own feet son. (Plus, I'm a black man with a white girlfriend and she told me to put the blacked.com response!!! lol)

    2:22 A woman came along, said three words and showed them what _actual_ authority looks like. She reduced the fight to an embarrassing display of immaturity. The whole energy shifts in that moment. That is power. I feel like that's what we should be further analyzing.

    its sad most people won't watch all of this video, very good content. So much respect about awareness of actual effectiveness of the system without mindsets like this the system can devolve over the generations.

    If you're training for a bar fight, the goal should be to defend yourself long enough for the bouncers to run over and pull the guy off you.

    • @jrcogburn
      @jrcogburn 2 года назад

      situational awareness and a combat mindset to end it mercilessly and quickly. Combat in the real world is ugly and spontaneous. Best bar fight training is stay the hell outta there lol. Lots of variables in that scenario.

      Yea for sure he was scared too ifu watch u can see him trying to amp himself up that's why it was a ridiculous looping punch Hoping he knocks the guy out

    • @JuC5574
      @JuC5574 7 лет назад +23

      It's not a sucker punch. A sucker punch is when someone who is out of your view surprises you with a punch. If you say I will kick your ass and then watch me walk up to you with my hand cocked there is no element of surprise. All the black guy did was accept the challenge placed before him. You want to fight because I tried to play you for money and you are a martial artist. You have no discipline, no morals and the head of your gym should reprimand you. This is how you represent jiu-jitsu? You picked a fight with someone well beneath your skill level and experience. To what end? What was proven?

      JuC5574 agreed. And i like how the brothers addressed his mistake in issuing the challenge and also how lucky he was at getting picked up, losing control, etc.

      yes. I Don't so jiu-jitsu, but it seems like a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. even though this won the fight, he could have been killed if things had gone a little differently. I know a guy who has been training under the gracies for years and he likes to go out and drink and had bottles smashed over his head

      North Star
      I'm saying this based on the fact that he threw the 1st punch. Plus He looked like the aggressor overall. The other guy didn't want to play for money so what's the big deal? i could hardly hear what they saying other than that.

    @Graciebreakdown Guys, respect! Your input is irreplaceable and this is one of my favorite videos for bjj ever. I like the addition that the street situation approach can also help the sports aspect.
    BJJ is still developing here in Bulgaria and I really miss the street situation approach, punch defense and so on. Most schools focus on competing here and it feels like there is a gap on this that I really want to be familiar with.
    OSS!

    When the Green shirt said, "I'd whoop your ass" I believe he was talking about whooping his ass in a basketball match. I've rewatched it a few times now and I'm fairly certain it was just the wrong phrase to say at the wrong moment after they both escalated their energies so high. I don't fault Black/Red shirt because he was thinking about what he was going to say next, he didn't hear the context and took it as a threat of violence, and I don't even blame him for going for the first punch at that point.
    Ya'll are right though, they both could learn to keep their ego's in check and do some deescalating to not let that energy build so high.
