    I went to boarding school for 3 years in my early teens and we were required to be neat and tidy. Our closets and lockers were inspected every Saturday morning before we could have our freedom for the weekend. This included polishing our shoes. That taught me the power of small habits of tidiness, how much easier it is to return the thing to where it lives immediately than live with it "out" for a week, slowly getting irritated, and losing respect for it. I feel like I'm constantly tidying and putting things away, but the flip side of that is that I never, ever do a "big" tidy. My place is always pretty neat. How I like it.

      Same for me while living with my mama, I had daily routine’s for school uniform, shoes, homework and of course the meals. Everything was meticulously planned by mother to keep the house clean and to keep us occupied and learning how to do that as adults. It was sometimes like living in a military camp but today as an adult I can see and I can appreciate the benefits of her rules to my life as a household. Thanks mama for that 🙏🕊

    • @frithbarbat
      @frithbarbat 3 года назад +6

      @@fitwithbrittany2706 They literally inspected everything (closets, book lockers, shoes) before we were allowed to leave the building and go hand out with our friends. Motivation was that you were stuck in your room cleaning until the job was well done and they let you go!

      @@frithbarbat Same here. My mom would let us make the biggest mess in our rooms while playing, but we knew she wouldn’t let us leave the room until it was back to normal and tidy (of course, meals and bathroom were allowed, but if you wanted to say, go to the living room to watch TV you couldn’t do it until your bedroom was perfectly tidy again).

    I so very much look forward to these videos. I really do. Once when we were having new flooring installed in our kiddo's bedroom, we emptied it of everything and at the end of the day, we only had time and energy to return the bed. He slept in the room without any other furniture, toys, or such belongings. The next day, he remarked that he had never slept so well as he did that night. He said he slept soundly, peacefully, and woke fully rested and refreshed. He theorized it was because his room was bare and uncluttered.

      I live in Canada too and always air my things out on my balcony even for a couple of hours every couple of days. Keeps things smelling nice, especially in the real cold weather or the summer sun. All my blankets go upside too the day I change my bed. My grandmother would only hang her clothes outside to dry, winter or summer to have the same affect. But that isn’t done anymore, so airing outside for a bit is a good thing.

    I love your channel and all these tips! And please don't worry about any of these negative comments like "this house is boring", "its too sterile" etc. There are a LOT of people who enjoy simple and clean environment and/or lifestyle. To many, it's an antidote to the crazy world around them, or their own issues they might be struggling for - it is for me, definitely. There's nothing like being able to sit in an uncluttered, light room and take a deep breath after a hard day at work or when something is becoming too overwhelming. I wish others would try and think about the long-term advantages of a minimalist house - it's MUCH easier to clean, there's so much less dust and dirt, the absence of clutter just takes so much off your mind - no need to sort, clean, or worry about a gift or a hobby item that we feel guilt about because we don't use it at all.

    Just began watching your videos as I have recently begun my Minimalist journey. Enjoying them very much! I would love to be able to air out my bedroom / clothes but being that I live in Florida USA the heat and humidity would not have the same effect. LOL! Really miss cooler weather. I am especially enjoying your channel as all my relatives came from Sweden and would love to bring a bit of that into my own home.

    I love you channel!!! It's -31 Celcius with a wind chill of -40 here in northern Canada today. A great day for airing out clothes. Thanks for the tip.

    I loveyour Channel. I learned so much from you and other Channels. You made me realize that I had so many Pens & Pencils that I hardly use. So I decluttered and only have a few. I got a New Portafile for Xmas and I purged alot of Old Papers that I don't need anymore. I also make sure that before Bedtime, the Kitchen & Bathroom are clean and neat so I can start my day with cleanliness.

    🇬🇧 It’s not easy keeping a tidy clutter free home when you have a husband! But now things are starting to get back to normal and he works away (currently in Denmark) yay 😁 my cottage is lovely and clutter free and smelling fresh………until he returns of course 🤦🏼‍♀️ you have the advantage of living alone. shall look forward to your six part declutter videos x

    Your videos are inspirational for a calm and soothing home. I follow many of these tips. Your kitty “messing” up your tidied sofa was cute.

    The problem is having to live with someone who has a difficult time to let things go. And their version of coziness and convenience is to layout everything within reach and sight like a convenient store!

    Benita, this was very enjoyable. I signed up for the free 6 part video series. Should be fun.
    Loved the bit at the end where Bonus was tunnelling under the throw. Too cute.
