I can't tell you how much I love this tutorial. My grandmother was born in 1913, left the farm in North Dakota at the age of 14 and joined a carnival (scandal!!). During the 1930's, when she was in her 20's (before she met and married my grandfather), she worked at a hotel in Detroit and occasionally dated the young bachelors who resided in the boarding house next door. She liked to tell me stories of how she hennaed her hair to make it "pop." Until the day she died, she wore heavy Coty powder (just as sandra666 describes), used a pinky shaded foundation, applied her "rouge" in the same way you do in the tutorial, and penciled her eyebrows in a thin arch (she told me that some women shaved their eyebrows off entirely, and then penciled them in). I loved that you mentioned the rules for eyeshadow colors - because her hair had been red, she always wore green. She also wore a skirt and heels when she went to the mall. ;) Well done!!
No offence to the other RUclipsr's who partnered up for this collaboration, but Cora fucking nailed it. I re-watched this three times already. I loved how she had such insight about the 1930's & how informative she was about the time period. It just made watching this tutorial that much more interesting! You did such a great job! You're one of my faves, without doubt. Keep it up. Your passion & talent always shines through. Amazing! =)
I couldn't get ahold of brow wax in time and other methods don't cut the mustard- I ended up liking the way the shaved-down look and I'm only letting them grow in a little for now.
Agreed ... I rarely do more than sparsely pluck mine because I'm a complete klutz who'd probably end up lopping off some eyelashes! But I do quite like that brow shape.
I really appreciate that you went for a more historically accurate look rather than a modern twist on a 1930s look. The history of cosmetics is fascinating! :)
You have the most historically accurate makeup tutorial for this era! Others mistake a 40s style for the 30s, or going off of pictures alone instead of research. Thank you!
Thanks cora! Loved this. As a vintage makeup collector this really got me excited. Its really difficult to find old makeup as it is something that is commonly thrown away. I guess that is part of the challenge for me and why I get so excited when I do find it. Thanks again for the hard work that is so evident in all of your videos
I appreciate all of the research you did for this tutorial before diving in. A lot of the others were "inspired" and not quite centered on historical accuracy. I do enjoy learning about the history of cosmetics, so thank you.
I love love love that you shaved your eyebrows down a little for this look. So often I see people doing period make up but not matching the correct brow shape.
You know my grandmother grew up in the 20's and probably was a teenager in the 30's but she had so much costume jewelry YOU are right on that..boxes and boxes..Hats omg hats in boxes everywhere..I just love what you did a gorgeous LOOK..so nice and perfect
I think this one and the 40's one were my absolute favorites from this collaboration because there wasn't the whole modernization of them! I love makeup history and I love seeing how things were! It's such a beautiful look
I think you did the best when it comes to actually doing the decades makeup instead of just "inspired" because they didn't wanna change their features (you shaved your eyebrows for us!) and doing the makeup the way they would have or actually doing research. Love your videos!
I agree with you Cora, this totally isn't what I think of when I imagine 1930's makeup. I go immediately to Marlene Dietrich, with the heavy sculpted cheekbones and lids, and full red lips. Never considered colourful makeup to be an option so this was a really neat learning experience!
First of all great look. Love it. My grandma lived during the great depression and she's still alive. She partied like crazy during that time and her sister had fun. (yes my gma is still alive) My gma was in her 20's when the depression. My grandma still cakes on the powder to this day with this powder puff she had before I was born. She also puts on her chest and her upper back and shoulders. She still puts on her blush with a small power puff she has. Her sister told me they would paint on the lower lashes at times. The powder they used was Coty which they make. My local Walgreens and grocery store sell it.
I love how REAL you are!! I have watched sooo many makeup videos and have never taken time to comment on a video--except now. I really admire you! And I love all the research you did you pull this look off! I think it's awesome that you most certainly have brains and beauty!
Love the vintage look and the little make up history lesson! You should so color your hair, the color brings out your eyes and adds warmth to your complexion. ❤️
You did a wonderful job. It is very apparent that you did lots of research and definitely know your stuff. I watched the tutorials for the other decades and yours is definitely the best. I feel like you stayed true to the era. You put lots of effort and attention into all of the details. You pulled bits and pieces to create an accurate and beautiful look. Great job.
I really think you should do more Old Hollywood Vintage Glamour looks! I love how informative your video is, and while your look is a blast from the past you make it look extremely wearable even now.
Fantastic look and have to say one of the few (there have been a couple of others) that have actually researched, shared that knowledge and was historically correct with their interpretation - just wish the other one or two had done the same! Excellent video, thank you!
I just love your passion for the history, and your fantastic presentation. You are so fabulous! Beautiful inside and out! You are such a timeless beauty.
I love how knowledgable you are about makeup, i really appreciate it and it makes me enjoy your tutorials so much more. I wish i was as talented as you!
Looks so cool! Thanks for the history lesson too. :) Tip for the half moon mani is buy those circles stickers from an office supply store. They're the ones that I think are meant to reinforce hole punched paper. They're the perfect size!! Stick em' on and paint as usual. Peel them off immediately.
I love it!!! out of all of the decades videos this is the most informative!! you explain how the trend was and the whys and that give a more clear idea of who it was back then to some of us who born on the last decades and don't know much at all about the trends back then.
{long comment} Everybody has done so well. I already follow most of the supremely talented gurus part of this collaboration. This collaboration is just a bit of fun and not a competition. BUT taking everything into account (video introduction and presentation, finished look obviously, editing, personality of the guru) it's Cora's video which I prefer. Loved the way you introduced yourself at the beginning of the video and that little snippets of your personality came through. You didn't try on purpose to sound extra bubbly either, it was just the perfect amount. What I mean is that if this video was the first video ever that I had seen of you, I would have been immediately sold and I would have subscribed. I would have realised further videos down the line, that that video was a pretty accurate taster of what is usually to be expected in your videos: knowledge, research, skills, flawless technique and finished result, and all that conveyed in a natural, easy to watch, fun, light hearted and NEVER condescending manner. So yeah, I quite liked the video really, in a nutshell ^_^
Bravo! You have done a wonderful job with this tut to include explanations. I'm inspired to do this. Wish I could find a vid tut of vintage looks for women of color. Thank u.
Such a beautiful look! I'm a women's studies and advertising double major and one of my favorite things to study is how makeup trends in advertising has evolved since the 1930s! The makeup trends of the 1930s paved the way for the Pin-Up girl, look up Betty Grable she was one of the first pin-up girls, makeup trends we see during WWII in the late '30s and early '40s! I recall you mentioning that you didn't know that the '30s had brighter makeup, well "pigmented" (they didn't use what we use today) makeup really started to take off in the African American community because during the '20s and the '30s "Passing" was really popular amongst that community. While they were trying to make themselves appear lighter, the makeup industry really saw how profitable it could be with offering different shades of makeup to Caucasian women, this type of makeup replaced the pressed powders created in the early 1900s.
Great tutorial - thank you for sharing! I have a 1930s party to go to tonight and I needed the inspiration. I love the green eyeshadow and bright lips. I'm going to attempt this tonight
wow! amazingly fun video. wish my old family photos were in colour, they'd surely be pretty like the look you created. can't wait to watch some of the collab videos, thank you!
Awesome tutorial, you look so beautiful! A tip for doing your own half moon mani is to use the paper hole reinforcements, you can get like, 1000 for under $5.00 in the stationery dept. at Walmart, then just cut them in half and stick them on the bottom of your nail and paint over. Make sure you take the reinforcements off before the polish is dry so it doesn't lift it off, and voila! Keep up the great work:)
not to play favorites, but yours was the best of the collab!! great effort. never seen your channel before, so happy to have found it thanks to this collab.
I adore anything that begins "Historically Accurate" ... or that has it in the title. I was also fascinated by the nail polishes of that time - and besides the half moon manicure they put "nail rouge" on the half moon and on the tips like a french manicure. :) This was awesome and you look amazing.
Wow! Great tutorial! So true to the time period. I'm really impressed with the effort you put into making sure this look was historically accurate. I love learning about makeup techniques and styles throughout the ages, so I really enjoyed this. Thanks so much for sharing!
I can't tell you how much I love this tutorial. My grandmother was born in 1913, left the farm in North Dakota at the age of 14 and joined a carnival (scandal!!). This is beyond ridiculous Cora!!! You totally nailed it!! xxx
SPOT ON! Love that you incorporated the colour, :D
I love this! That wig is amazing too! xx
OMG YOU LOOK LIKE MYRTLE FROM THE MODERN GREAT GATSBY FILM!! Your talent for makeup is uncanny.
Kinda Sorta yeah, thanks!

Thank you Shannon, Watching your video now!!
I love Cora and you, Shaaanxo. You guys are so fab! Great tutorial Cora. :))
No offence to the other RUclipsr's who partnered up for this collaboration, but Cora fucking nailed it. I re-watched this three times already. You're so right. I just got interested about the history because she was so informative x
So true
Cora totally nailed it! I love all the historical insight in this video!
Shaving your eyebrows, that's dedication. Love it girl.
This was fantastic! Loved your video :)
So informative! Love your historical tidbits :) xx
Still watching, but already commenting -- I can't believe you shaved your brows! That is dedication, Cora. Bravo! Love it already.
I couldn't get ahold of brow wax in time and other methods don't cut the mustard- I ended up liking the way the shaved-down look and I'm only letting them grow in a little for now.
vintageortacky Gotcha! They look really good. I loved this tutorial. Thank you for putting so much work and research into it. :)
And by "I can't believe", I meant... I would have been a nervous wreck and probably lost half a brow, so I commend you. LOL
***** No worries, I knew what you meant ^_^
Agreed ... I rarely do more than sparsely pluck mine because I'm a complete klutz who'd probably end up lopping off some eyelashes! But I do quite like that brow shape.
I love that this is a color theory makeup. I love the use of complimentary colors
you are truly talented.
Thank you Kristie ^_^
omg, the 1920s-1930s have some of the most beautiful fashions and makeup techniques
you look amazing Cora!!
Thank you!
This is beautiful on you, I loce the way the red wig and green eyeshadow look together. Lovely.
You're welcome babe! I myself collect vintage compacts ^_^
You're a fucking RUclips Icon to me, i have so many fun memories from your videos and your body positivity had undeniable impact in me self esteem.
Thank you for doing new and interesting things instead of the same boring videos that almost everyone else is doing. You nailed the look.
I appreciate all of the research you did for this tutorial before diving in.
A lot of the others were "inspired" and not quite centered on historical accuracy. I do enjoy learning about the history of cosmetics, so thank you.
Love it Cora! And I especially love all of the history behind it. You really did your research. :) I always love your videos!
Thank you Dollface!
Obviously this isn't an everyday kind of look, but you make it look so wearable! It's so flattering on you, too. I love it!
Cake mascara was the first mascara. This could be used as a liner, though a pencil was more common to use. Kohl could be used as well.
Thank you so much!! I needed this because I’m doing a 1930s show right now. Bless you bless you bless you
I agree with you Cora, this totally isn't what I think of when I imagine 1930's makeup. I go immediately to Marlene Dietrich, with the heavy sculpted cheekbones and lids, and full red lips. Never considered colourful makeup to be an option so this was a really neat learning experience!
Girl...WOW!!! I have seen all the era's that were done and yours was the BEST!!!
UGH THOSE LIPS ARE FANTAAAAAAASTIC!!! I LOVE the shaping!!

I would love love love to see you make your own series of decade-inspired looks! This was spectacular.
I love that this is Historically correct and that you did research and gave an explanation for everything you did. Props to you!
I'm happy to see Orb finally used in a video. It's my go-to brow highlighter.
That shade of red looks awesome on you!
My two greatest passions are history and makeup, so to see these videos are wonderful!
I seriously love how authentic this looks. You look fantastic.
I looooove vintage beauty -- especially 20's and 30s makeup/hair. Going to thoroughly enjoy this series of videos!
You did a wonderful job. It is very apparent that you did lots of research and definitely know your stuff. I watched the tutorials for the other decades and yours is definitely the best.

This is definitely my favorite decade makeup!!! I absolutely love the vintage look you have!!!

Tip for the half moon mani is buy those circles stickers from an office supply store.

I love this era. So fun! Cant wait to watch everyones videos
Points for historical accuracy. The "inspired" ones are fun, but the ones that come with a history lesson are so interesting!
Such a beautiful look! I'm a women's studies and advertising double major and one of my favorite things to study is how makeup trends in advertising has evolved since the 1930s! Also, for the half moon mani -- you can use those sticker hole reinforcements! They work perfectly and are super cheap.
Great tutorial - thank you for sharing! I have a 1930s party to go to tonight and I needed the inspiration. I love the green eyeshadow and bright lips. I'm going to attempt this tonight
Loved this! That lip mixture looks amazing on you

Cora, this look is just cool! I know about the collab, but I'd love to see how YOU would represent the 20s, 60s, 70s etc.!!
Yours is by far my favorite in this collab just wow!
Love, love, love! I have a project in school coming soon for this decade, definitely using your advice!
not to play favorites, but yours was the best of the collab!! great effort. never seen your channel before, so happy to have found it thanks to this collab.
Love the little history lesson we got with this amazing makeup look!
I adore anything that begins "Historically Accurate" ... or that has it in the title. I was also fascinated by the nail polishes of that time - and besides the half moon manicure they put "nail rouge" on the half moon and on the tips like a french manicure. :) This was awesome and you look amazing.
This makeup suits you so much! Loooove the lipstick shape.
This is fabulous. What a great collaboration
I love love love this! You made me want to find out more about the history of 1930's makeup. It's really pretty!
I subscribed on the first two minutes just because the commitment you showed by shaving your eyebrows. Hats off to you!
Those little round pricing stickers really help with making a half moon shape.
I have watched this several times. It is my go to when I want to be inspired for this time period.
Wow! Great tutorial! So true to the time period. I'm really impressed with the effort you put into making sure this look was historically accurate. I love learning about makeup techniques and styles throughout the ages, so I really enjoyed this. Thanks so much for sharing!
This video was so informative I loved it. You did such a good job
, not just on the look but teaching about the 30's.
your tutorials are my absolute favorite! you seem to really know what you're talking about and you're an amazing teacher
