    Diablos' sensitivity to loud high-pitched noises while underground actually explains its loud high-pitched roar. It's a way to force rivals to come out of the ground during territorial disputes.

    • @NeovenatorGuy
      @NeovenatorGuy Год назад

      Considering how hyper aggressive males are to other males, i highly doubt the diablos would need to force the other diablos out the ground, since the opposition will immediately surface to fight

  • @LodestarLogado
    @LodestarLogado 6 лет назад +270

    Not trying to criticize just wanted to educate, but animals that burrow typically have bad eyesight (Why Diablos has relatively small eyes and charges eyes down) this means they rely more on sense of smell or hearing since sight is relatively negligible underground, whereas sound can tell an animal it’s spacial awareness or tell it where other animals could be. This is why Diablos is very sensitive to sonic bombs.

      Logan Bilodeau that’s not the reason why sonic bombs work so well against him. Going underground sand there’s enough pressure to amplify sound. Just like how water has enough pressure to amplify sound as well. If anything diablos has great vision and the only reason he puts his head down while charging at you is because his horns curl upward.

    I personally think the hunting tips and the lore should be kept separate. It felt jarring to hear you mention its weakness to ice attack then talk about subspecies from other games shortly after. It will help the videos flow better and allow you to make more content in the long run
    Regardless I like the information you gave! Facts such as mentioning the monoiablos were neat. Good background music too. Glad I subscribed keep it up!

      Starch Wars I agree. I didn't find it "jarring" but it did take me out of the moment. I feel like when you stayed in character it felt cooler. Mentioning the "game" was like breaking the 4th wall almost. Sir Wallen's destiny lore is a great example. His lore vids are totally in character. So fun.

    a possibility for the female diablo turning black when its in heat, may be that it is absorbing the sunlight and turning in to energy, like a solar panel. may also explain why it's more ferocious and agresive.

    • @falkpojken94dragon
      @falkpojken94dragon 6 лет назад +5

      yeah i know that is what it means. and its to show other diablos that its ready to mate and to warn off other monsters to back off. but what if its more to it than that? does the coloring to the black diablos serve to absorb sunlight? or is to camouflage herself during the night since its active then.
      and you should not assume too much stuff about a person, out of one comment lil fork.

    I really enjoy the content you create. The lore combined with your relaxed delivery helps me more easily contemplate the mysteries of the world of Monster Hunter. If I hadn't decided to watch your videos, I wouldn't know about the Dragon War, the Ancients, or the Rule of Four.
    But speaking of mysteries, I don't think anyone's done a lore video on the Valphalk. It's a super cool monster and I think it would make an interesting topic of discussion.

And please feel free to keep suggesting things like this, I'm always looking for new ideas for videos. I'm going to keep doing lore videos but I have some new content in the works also, a podcast and some other ideas I'm working on. There's also a discord server for group chats and finding people to hunt with, and a patreon page, with new videos being added one every month. 1.) Diablos has excellent hearing and smell
    2.) Most likely has a type of echolocation in which he uses the vibrations he creates while digging to find you, even if you're standing still
    3.) This is most likely why sonic pods cause him to flinch and break out of the ground, an overload of sight/hearing

    Barrel bombs, crag shot and other monsters' roars all count as sonic bombs/screamer pods for the purpose of affecting sound-sensitive monsters like Diablos. You can also get the same fake-pitfall effect of popping a burrowing diablos out of the ground by staggering it with delayed damage, such as that from slicing shots, while it is underground.

    Ita probably highly sensitive to sound for much the same reason Secco is in Jojo; it needs sensitive hearing to navigate under ground and overwhelming that can cause series damage and even destroy its sense of balance, potentially permanently.

    I love Hammers, but the fact that Diablos is vulnerable to impacts on the head is odd. It fights other Diablos with headbutts. One of it's primary attacks is charging at you with it's horns

  • @alexstewart9592
    @alexstewart9592 6 лет назад

    Mind you, the greatest weakness of the Diablos is in Monster Hunter Stories, because in that game the Brachydios Hunting Horn has a song called Dissonance that immediately causes the Diablos to fall over, and miss both the rest of the current turn and all of the next one while making it get crit more, and DIssonance only takes 2 turns to line up and in Stories, songs play as soon as you line them up (even before the monster counterattacks you if you're fighting a monster that counterattacks when hit, and since falling over due to Dissonance prevents the monster from actually counterattacking, this matters), although you do need the Diablos to not be trying to use certain attacks on the rider, because songs are completely lost if you lose a Head-to-Head on the final note of the song, and Diablos's main category of attack is Power, while DIssonance finishes with Technical, which loses to Power in a Head-to-Head. Unfortunately for the Diablos, it tends to target the monstie and has moves that don't trigger a Head-to-Head, so it can effectively be almost permanently stuck unable to attack, although the Daimyo Hermitaurs suffer this worse because they often use a move that prevents them from moving for several turns and lets them counterattack when damaged, but since they're slower than the player it is always possible to play Dissonance before their first counterattack, and then it falls over and can't actually do the counterattack, only to get hit by Dissonance again as soon as it gets up.

    • @Strawfoot
      @Strawfoot  6 лет назад

      Oh man, I'm so making that hunting horn in stories, I had no idea it was so good. Thanks for explaining it. I gotta go dig my 3ds out of the desk drawer, I've been so into MHW lately I almost forgot how much fun I was having with stories. Thanks for reminding me! :)

    I've always wondered about Diablos' wings, since they must be a massive hindrance while digging. Watching this video, I realise that they would serve as a great way to dissipate heat, especially being such a large and heavily armoured creature. Given it's active and aggressive behaviour, Diablos is probably not well disposed to other means of heat dissipation such as wallowing like a Barroth or real world hippo, while it's armoured scales and arid environment would make sweating difficult and unsustainable.

  • @volkerball85
    @volkerball85 4 года назад

    Given that there were so few monster types introduced early in the series, and thus the develops had to work with what was established, I can't help but wonder if monsters like Diablos(or Khezu, etc.) would still be flying wyverns, had they been designed later. I get the feeling Diablos itself would've maybe been some kind of brute wyvern instead. It just always struck me as bizarre that a creature could be so suited to digging and yet still have such well-developed wings. You'd think they would've become vestigial or otherwise shrunk a bit over the eons.

    The idea that the Monoblos is the male of Diablos is a understandable theory. The fact that Black Diablos are female Diablos in heat seems to suggest that all Diablos are female and therefore the Monoblos are the males. I may need to brush up on my lore but I am pretty sure that Monoblos don't have a subspecies like the Black Diablos. They are both hyper aggressive, with almost identically colored scales. Even their designs are similar enough to give proof to the theory that one is the male and the other the female of the species.
    For example, Rathalos and Rathian have almost identical designs, though they aren't the ideal comparison because of their color differences.
    Honestly this theory deserves more attention, it's pretty cool and I'd like to see a quest proving this theory.
    As well, a lore video on a creature from MH4U; the Shagoru Magala.

    It is incredibly sensitive to sound due to its description saying that it listens for its prey which makes no sense since it eats cactus and is a herbivore. Therefore, the cactus is underground and somehow makes sound. Thats apparently how the diablos is sensitive to sound.

    Sound travels faster through solid earth than through air. Therefore, Diablos’ sensitive ears are useful for locating foes while burrowing. They presumably are kept tightly shut when the monster is above ground where they are not required.
    The sharp, shrill, piercing scream of a Diablos is likely an evolutionary response to intraspecific competition; because Diablos can burrow into each other’s territory, the scream forces intruders into the open.
    Diablos is primarily an herbivore, but like most herbivores, it probably supplements its diet with calcium and other vital nutrients from carrion or small prey from time to time.
    A possible explanation for Black Diablos’ darkened scales is that they provide increased heat absorption from solar radiation. If Diablos were exothermic (“cold-blooded”), getting more heat from the sun would allow the animal to be more active, explaining why the Black Diablos is so much faster.
    Why the female Diablos in heat is so much more dangerous is unclear. Some possible explanations are: She’s clearing a territory of all predators and competitors to make sure her eggs will be safe; she’s forcing males to overcome her in combat before mating so her offspring will only have the genes of the strongest Diablos males; she’s actually stronger to fight with other Diablos females over males, in which case the male Diablos likely takes care of the eggs.

    Two things
    I don’t know if the black diablos’ scales turning black necessarily serves a separate purpose, however I know that some lizards (bearded dragons in particular) have parts of their body (primarily their chin) turn a deep black when agitated. I’m sure this is at least part of the inspiration
    Secondly, why is black diablos considered a “subspecies” and not a variant?

    Since the diablos stays underground a lot it has no use for it’s eyes so this results in more developed ears to hear and locate their enemy on the surface and less development in it’s eyes
    But hey that’s just a theory

    actually the diablos is a predator and hunts for prey although it is said to consume cactus. I have a theory that it is a carnivore but uses cacti for hydration not food as surprisingly lots of desert carnivores such as roadrunners use cactus juice to hydrate themselves because they cant get access to water.
