I’ve gotta say that these guys that made this game made it perfect for people with ADHD and/or ocd. Perfect ways to deal with waste, long but simple production chains, and in the end it’s all a satisfactory
I always thought I have very slight OCD in some cases, and I get the same feeling that you are getting about this game. My favorite part is to research new technology and then come up with ideas how to use "waste" products in other production chains or how to reduce coal/raw material usage. You are always lookout out for ways to make your factory better and more resourceful too. The fact that a lot of these production lines are also very close to how they work in real life also just gives it that "real" feeling, where it doesn't feel like you are just learning game logic to beat the game, but actually using real world methods to tackle problems like waste and pollution
I really like how everything is stated per 60/s unlike factorio where you either have to use a mod or perform literal algebra to determine ratios, makes it a lot easier to make smaller sub factories that just produce 1 high tech thing from raw than in factorio where its much easier to bus everything and just overproduce on everything previous
I think the reason for the nitrogen being burned is because the second mixer isn't constantly running. Each cycle of the sour water makes 4 sulfur * 2 = 8 8 sulfur in 1st conveyor split turns it into 3, 3, 2 3 into storage 3 into mixer 1 2 going to mixer 2 and 3 (can see this at 36:44) then it gets split again 1 and 1 1 to mixer 2 1 to mixer 3 potential solution: (looking at setup at 36:44) swap places of sulfur storage and limestone storage (limestone storage moved back 1 or 2 tiles) run conveyor from limestone storage, over sulfur conveyor into the current limestone input conveyor for mixer 1 and mixer 2 reverse belt direction of the limestone conveyor going over sulfur conveyor going into mixer 2 and connect that conveyor to mixer 3 place a conveyor balancer where current corner of sulfur belt is(next to fertilizer storage), with priority to mixer 2 send other output of balancer into sulfur storage and mixer 3 and remove sulfur conveyor going from mixer 2 to mixer 3 end result should be: 8 sulfur in split into 4 and 4 4 to mixer 1 4 to mixer 2, storage and mixer 3 balancer ensures that mixer 2 is always fed excess goes to storage and mixer 3, where it gets split 50/50 if you look at it per minute: 24 -> 12 and 12 12 to mixer 1 12 to mixer 2, storage and mixer 3 mixer 2 gets its 3 per minute 9 go to storage and mixer 3
working on a 60 second cycle. sour water makes 12 sulfur * 2 = 24 24 sulfur in 1st conveyor split turns it into 8, 8, 8 8 into storage 8 into mixer 1 (it can only use 3) so actually its 1st conveyor split turns it into 3, 10, 11 So 10 or 11 into storage Next split turns it into 5 and 5, mixer 2 can only use 3, so its actually 3 and 7 7 ends up in Slag, recipe calls for 24 which means it is idle often. Once storage fills its 6 into fertiliser, 21 into slag and 0 left over. The system takes some time to fill the buffer space on the belts, a balancer could be added, BUT its not required.
@@JDPlays ya know.. I didn’t think about it in terms of 60 seconds when I originally posted this lol. I only thought about it after moving the two storages around. Good point!
Possible OCD / less spaghetti for the cracking units at 33:00: set up the CO2 to come out the front by 2 tiles and then have the smoke stacks. I think this would let you run your O2 to the middle at its current height, turn in between the machines and run over top of the CO2 pipe, and descend to make the connection without having to wrap around the left unit. This could save a couple lateral spaces. Also, I don't know if this would work as is, but if you're able to move the cracking units just one more space upward (toward their input side), I think you could bring the CO2 pipe out one space so you have a connector between the outputs, one segment of pipe, and a connecter between the stacks, so then you could bring your O2 over to the center and between the stacks (basically doing a quarter turn around the left stack). I think this would be almost purely aesthetic instead of saving space, but would be ever so slightly cheaper unless there's a collision with the stacks.
You would have to bring the CO2 out the front and then push it to the side out of the way before adding a large smoke stack to get the oxygen in the front. But I don't mind the oxygen wrapping around the back
These are the ratios I like to stick to for Stage 3 as well and this is a nice model of a "Diesel Priority" Stage 3 setup. You'd use this if you were planning to stay mostly coal dependent and only wanted a little fuel gas for use. When I'm setting up Stage 3 I'm usually doing it to stop burning coal for water distilleries and electricity, so most Stage 3 setups I build would be "Fuel Gas Priority" Stage 3. Rather than cracking Fuel Gas down to Diesel and having Diesel be the bottle-neck resource, I'd be cracking everything (including Diesel after a priority sink) down to Fuel Gas and instead of the system running any time I needed Diesel, it would run any time I needed Fuel Gas instead. Once you have even just your main power running on Fuel Gas, you burn it faster and more consistently than you burn through Diesel, and can still afford a couple of kilns and maybe a large water distillery.
My islands almost out of iron ore but I’ve not uncovered a iron ore mine off shore ? Have I essentially failed the game ? I’m assuming that’s the only way to get iron ore once the island is depleted right ? My island rips through coal and iron..
can you make a setup including heavy oil cracking and hydrogen? My main doubt is should you convert the fuel gas into hydrogen for burning or burn the fuel gas directly?
I expect I will, I plan to make a large modular build that will auto balance all outputs according to a stack of balancers, but It will take some time and a LOT of space!
I made the choice to go for the more efficient diesel/rubber recipe, thinking that if my diesel backs up, I lose my naphta production, which could create a shortage. Not sure it's the best recipe to use, but it feels for me this one keeps things moving a bit more. Or that it would even matter that much late game? Only one way to find out by just keep playing.😀
This is true, I expect most people will never have diesel backup and stop maybe pause for a second when it fills up, but with trucks and ships moving there will always be a draw on the system
at 3:00 you got thinking.. and i had already gone cross eyed .... so.... like..... MY chemical area looks like something from a sci fi movie where the world is made of pipes.... it makes basically everything.... and its now a mess. lol
if you have somewhere for it to go, and trucks have access, oh and you have somewhere for it to go afterwards or it sits in storage forever. Light oil I have no where else for it to go
So you might be bright enough to do what I'm trying... I'm trying to make a 4hp turbine power generation system run entirely on water. As far as I can tell I'd need 192 electrolyzers to make hydrogen to run 4 turbines continuously. Those would take 19.2 megawatts to run. 4hp and 2lp turbines can support 12 generators which yields 3.6megawatts... so yeah that's not gonna fly even if you manage to have enough machines. I'm hoping you can do this more efficiently than I can.
For extra waste not want not, you're using oxygen for steel production, and venting nitrogen, and using nitrogen and venting oxygen for this setup.. :)
Damn this is a clean build, imma steal it for my setup keep. Up the good stuff @jdplays For the slag I'd just put a concrete plant next to the refinery, cuase you got limestone there and fuel gas, so gas rotaries, and grinders for a concrete plant dont need to run the efficient concrete recipe wich eliminates the need for sand, basically a supplemental concrete line

As a brand new player of the game, you lost me at "Hello, I'm JD"....lol. Great Videos though. Keep em coming!
I think the reason for the nitrogen being burned is because the second mixer isn't constantly running.
Each cycle of the sour water makes 4 sulfur * 2 = 8
8 sulfur in
1st conveyor split turns it into 3, 3, 2
3 into storage
3 into mixer 1
2 going to mixer 2 and 3 (can see this at 36:44)
then it gets split again 1 and 1
1 to mixer 2
1 to mixer 3
potential solution: (looking at setup at 36:44)
swap places of sulfur storage and limestone storage (limestone storage moved back 1 or 2 tiles)
run conveyor from limestone storage, over sulfur conveyor into the current limestone input conveyor for mixer 1 and mixer 2
reverse belt direction of the limestone conveyor going over sulfur conveyor going into mixer 2 and connect that conveyor to mixer 3
place a conveyor balancer where current corner of sulfur belt is(next to fertilizer storage), with priority to mixer 2
send other output of balancer into sulfur storage and mixer 3 and remove sulfur conveyor going from mixer 2 to mixer 3
end result should be:
8 sulfur in
split into 4 and 4
4 to mixer 1
4 to mixer 2, storage and mixer 3
balancer ensures that mixer 2 is always fed
excess goes to storage and mixer 3, where it gets split 50/50
if you look at it per minute:
24 -> 12 and 12
12 to mixer 1
12 to mixer 2, storage and mixer 3
mixer 2 gets its 3 per minute
9 go to storage and mixer 3
working on a 60 second cycle.
sour water makes 12 sulfur * 2 = 24
24 sulfur in
1st conveyor split turns it into 8, 8, 8
8 into storage
8 into mixer 1 (it can only use 3) so actually its 1st conveyor split turns it into 3, 10, 11
So 10 or 11 into storage
Next split turns it into 5 and 5,
mixer 2 can only use 3, so its actually 3 and 7
7 ends up in Slag, recipe calls for 24 which means it is idle often.
Once storage fills its 6 into fertiliser, 21 into slag and 0 left over.
The system takes some time to fill the buffer space on the belts, a balancer could be added, BUT its not required.
Not a bad idea, but depends on space. Personally my map every tiny bit of space is important!

This is why it goes into a container, for acid for copper and glass

Trade food (renewable) for Oil, process oil into Hydrogen :)
