Mr. Freeze was possibly my all time favorite Batman villain. He did it for love. There's something magically powerful about good men who do evil, romantic deeds for love. Like cryogenically freezing his wife and breaking all moral and ethical boundaries in the hope of bringing her back to life. That sort of love is eternal, like a rose that never dies.
Yea except it is revealed your partner actually used you (no matter how) whilst telling you he/she loves you for the whole relationship, to then for example reveal that "he/she can not imagine you two to spend time together without having sex"
Betrayal kills love
Agreed. Mr. Freeze is not completely different from Darth Vader in Star Wars. Both characters did terrible things to try to save their wives, but it had the opposite effect and ruined their lives both physically and mentally. I hold a great deal of sympathy for Mr. Freeze and Darth Vader.
@@nothingnewunderthesun4292 I had a stroke reading your reply
Imho the joker is a bit too overused, taking away the spotlight from other great Batman villains.Sure Joker might be Batman’s best villain, but Batman is known for having the best rouges gallery of all time and that can’t be just because of the joker.(scarecrow, deathstroke, penguin, Deadshot, killer croc, Clayface, bane, etc)
yeah wish they would dip into the rogues gallery a bit more. would love to see deathstroke get more time and maybe more obscure villains like the ventriloquist in movies and TV
Late as hell, but agreed 100%. I feel like the rest of rouges, while (mostly) great, haven’t reached their full potential, IMO.
I hope they do freeze next
I say this every day
BigBoy Cheesepuffs I totally agree.
Mr. frezze has the best back story especially in the bat man animated series
Yeah! I also liked how they had him in Batman Beyond, too!
That was downright cold and cruel.
smashguy64 i have a teacher named Mr freeze.
Not gonna lie, I like the changes they made to his backstory in the new 52 even if they make him less sympathetic
@@aqworldsjames12344 It just bugs me we don't get enough of him in the comics though. Same thing with Riddler. THESE people are IMPORTANT.
I don't like how the New 52 turned him from a sympathetic villain who just wanted to save his wife to an obsessive creep. It just ruined an underrated character. I hope they'll fix that at some point in Rebirth.
Be thankful. They did just that.
Alot of people shit on the Rebirth origin for good reason. Glad they fixed it
I actually like the Rebirth one better.
@@shawndavis1480 Wth?
He. Is. A. Legit. Creep. Who. Simps. For. A. Frozen. Woman.
Enough to bring a chill to your spine.
Caine7ify ouch
"Really Ice Puns"
ah ha ha
Savage af in the boom shack of freez
That's cold
I don't blame him for wanting to save his wife with so much passion.
Me too pal I feel really sorry for the man.
And in some alternate universes, he cures his wife and stops his life of crime.
He was a lot like Anakin Skywalker.
@Z Floyd I haven’t watched Star Wars could you explain?
@@planatano_ Anakin Skywalker was a jedi knight. but then his desire to save his wife, Padme, was manipulated by Palpatine to turn him into Darth Vader.
What an appropriate time to have a Mr freeze video
not for me, i am from New Zealand and our winters are in Summer
Most sympathetic villain in Batman.
And the crimes he commit are either to get money to fund his research for a cure to his wife’s disease or items for said cure.
Him and ivy you cant help but see their point lol
The Joker: am I a joke to you? (Pun intended)
Anyone feel bad for Killer Croc?
I agree
Mr.Freeze is one of my favorite Batman villains, he’s not just a sympathetic character, thanks to writer Paul Dini, but I always found him to be the most sci-fi with his cryogenic suit to his weapons.
He's one of the most complex villains in all of comics.
Every crime he commits is to get something to help make a cure for his wife, either money to fund his research for a cure for his wife, equipment for said research or ingredients for said cure.
Did the chemicals lower or increase his body temperature? It would make more sense for it to be increased, which would explain why he needs to be in a freezing temperature to survive... I think that's how it was in that Batman Beyond episode.
Lower. He's basically Jack Frost where he has to stay cold or suffer for it like he can run around in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts if he's in the arctic since it's cold all around, but he needs the suit to basically maintain a cold environment while out in normal temps, hence his jail cell always being cold and even the ridiculous lair in Batman and Robin being icy and cold.
In Batman Beyond, his cloned body was basically failing/reverting so the lady scientist said fuck it and increased the temp in his room to just kill him while his last suit was just a more powerful version of his classic suit.
"What killed the DINOSAURS?" " The ice age" arghh
I love Scott Snyder, but New 52 Mr. Freeze's origin is the worst thing I've ever seen. It turns this beautifully tragic story of a man doing everything in his power to save his wife and still failing to Victor being an obsessive, creepy, necrophiliac who has fallen in love with the frozen body of a woman who could be his grandmother. I hope that they bring the original origin back because that drive to save the one he loves is why I love Victor.
This is the guy that cut off Jokers face and made him toss HQ into a basement of dead ex-Harley Quinn's despite the fact her real name is Harleen Quinzel, so I'm not sure how that's supposed to work.
This man clearly had issues with Timm/Dini.
I mean, I've met the man. He seems well enough. Though, you're probably right. No. Definitely right. It's a shame that one of the best Batman villains has to suffer for it though.
@@samuelwilliams1619 He did? Funnily enough, I met Scott at a signing for ASB and Metal. I should've asked him about it there. Thanks for letting me know, I look forward to reading through ASB.
Anyone should not use the new 52 mr freeze origin because it's awful.
I didn’t really care about him, till I watch batman the animated😢. Now I understand you mr freeze😌
He's an incredible villain and one of the best villains of all time
While Mr. Freeze is one of my favorite Batman villains, I can't help but think his super villainy could be put to an end if Batman just told him he was Bruce Wayne and helped him with his research. Just fund the damn invalids research on curing his diseased wife and stop kicking his ass.
Well to be fair in some arcs he did save Victor's wife using his company. Never told him who he was but he did save her but vengeance never dies and years later Mr. Freeze came back and was angry about something else.
Do captain cold next lol
Very ICE video, this gave me CHILLS down my spine. Sorry that there are SNOW many puns but they are really COOL. ICE-talavista, baby.
-Mr Freeze, Arnold Schwarzenegger
😂😂😂
Jeez, imagine if the Animated Series never created the new origin for Mr. Freeze and we'd still have the Silver Age version. Essentially the Batman & Robin Arnold Schwarzenegger Freeze with the ice-puns without the Nora backstory.
Should also watch Batman Beyond which brought a nice and sad conclusion to Victoes Fries' life. Was just an awesome episode with Batman Vs Mr.Freeze and Villain on Villain fight scene.
My absolute favorite Batman villain. I thank that episode called Heart of Ice from Batman The Animated Series for making his backstory canon.
DC needs to have Victor Freeze on the Big Screen again because I really feel like he is an important character that Fans can connect with on an emotional and human level.
Captain Cold is next hopefuly
He's such a scary villain he sends a CHILL down my spine.
“ALRIGHT EVERYONE, CHILL”
FREEZE WELL
I would like a version of Mr. Freeze with the personality and backstory of the regular version and the appearance of his The Batman self.
Freeze was also in Batman Beyond. Just thought I'd point that out.
I've been waiting for this for so long
New 52 ruined a lot of origins. Arris. Time to Rebirth!
Arris, I hope you had a great holiday season. I hope to see more videos and better things in the next year
Hey just so happen to be watching this in Wyoming where it's negative 10 out 6 inches of snow lol but love your videos Man
Here in Ontario where it's negative 14 out, plus wind chill.
Yup. We've gotten to -40 with wind chill
FREEZE WELL
Mr. Freeze is my favourite Batman villain and it's a shame that he has never been done justice on the big screen.
Who do you think could play him though?
@@straburyred Mark Strong or Adrien Brody. I'm sure there are others, but those 2 would make the role interesting.
Am I the only person who thinks Mr Freeze Should get his own Comic
Awesome history on Mr. Freeze, Arris.Mr. Freeze is easily one of my favorite Batman villains. And the "Heart of Ice" episode from "Batman: The Animated Series" is one of my favorites.
Happy holidays to you too Arris
Batman the animated series
Teen Titans
Ben 10
Greatest shows of early 2000s
Jalal Yahaya Batman the animated series came out in 1992...
Unless you mean "The Batman" which is a pretty good batman animated series to
fucking love that show. My personal fav batman cartoon
justice league/jlu
Lol, Ben 10 really underrated.
Do one for Lobo please.
AGREED!!!
It has been done already.
Man i love this channel!
I say that Paul Dini deserves a lot of credit for re-introducing the character to DC. Not to mention that Mike Mignola designed the look for the character in The Animated Series as well. The character of Mr. Freeze is among my favorite Batman villains. But I will say this though when it came to Arnold Schwarzenegger's take on the character in the disastrous Batman & Robin movie, that 'they' just didn't explore his backstory more than what was seen, and that the 'too many' ice-puns were among the many criticisms towards that awful movie. If it were up to me, I wouldn't have included Mr. Freeze in the Batman films of the 90s since he was still a 'new' character at the time.
Straight up, if it wasn't for bat man the animated series I would have never got into comic's either . thanks for the time and effort you and your team at variant use to make these awesome video's.
Do history of young avengers
you spelled justice wrong
Don't forget his awesome episode in Batman Beyond the animated series :]
Also his small part in Batman vs Predator 3rd encounter xD
You forgot about Legends Of The Dark Knight: Snow. Still I don't see that as a bad thing I just thought you might mention it. I still love your History Of Mr.Freeze. Keep making videos, man.
Nice to chill with a cool variant video ill show my self out
Great History Video! I liked him in Batman Sub-Zero! Also when he shows up in Batman Beyond Show!
I love this channel so much
Me too
Freeze vs Blight in Batman Beyond gave me chills.
Happy Holidays, Arris!
Heart of ice is one of comics best backstories; to see the "bad guy" get to be a real human and know how he feels and why he does what he does was amazing. by the end of that episode you really felt something for Mr. Freeze in a way that most blockbusters do not achieves with their antagonist.
I would love to see a one off live action movie talking about his back story. His story is so cool and I think it would be great to see on the big screen.
My favorite Batman villain along with scarecrow
Fun fact: the villain Man Bat, commits crime for very similar reasons that Mr.Freeze does, but instead of trying to get a cure for his wife, he is trying to get a cure for him self, and commits basically the same crimes as freeze does, such as robbing banks for research money, from labs for equipment and chemicals.
I love the conclusion they gave to Victor and Nora in Arkham Knight. It was sad but perfect.
Merry Christmas too😊
Definitely one of my favorite Batman villains and one that I could understand easily as a kid.
Merry Christmas Arris!!! Also, I miss the “out takes”
Twas me favorite as a child. I’m more of a Joker guy now, but I revisit this man often.
Love the animated series Mr. Freeze backstory better.
This backstory made Mr. Freeze' s crimes and actions relatable AND made him more of a tragic character, than a villain.
Both the Batman villains Mr.Freeze, Man-Bat as well as the Spider-Man villain The Lizard, all share very similar backstories and motives for their crimes:
All three of them were scientists who had something bad happened themselves (In Mr.Freeze’s case himself and his wife), that messed with their body, and commit crimes in hopes of making a cure to save them (in Mr.Freeze’s case his wife), and the hero takes pity on them keep trying to convince them that crime isn’t the only way to help them, and they all try their hardest to not put people in harms way, and their crimes are usually robbing banks and labs or kidnaping scientists, and they would all stop their life of crime if they obtain the cure.
Love Mr Freeze he's one of my favorite Batman villains since I was a kid the first time I've learn about he is the 2004 Batman show
This was a chill video.
Mr. Freeze is my number 1 favorite comic book villain of all time. I loved him from the beginning. Still love him now.
Can you do a Cosmic Armor superman vs Hotu thanos!
Great vid! Please do a history of Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Red Tornado and Nova
You forgot Batman: Sub Zero! One of the greatest Freeze story's ever!!
He has been Always my favorite I didn’t even know His origin story was from the animated series! Also loves him in Arkam knight .. the ending of his mission bought tears to my eyes Lol when he departs with Nora
Merry Christmas aris
That was CHILLED!!!!
mr freeze is truly one of the greatest villains in the dc universe
I love mr. Freeze..................
What about the mr freeze in the night of owls
He talks about it in the video towards the end.
"It would move me to tears, if i still had tears to shed".
Hey Arris, big fan for a long time! Was just wondering if you have plans for a one shot of Allen Moore’s Saga of the Swamp Thing and a Hellboy video?
The Paul Dini version is that best!
This was pretty *cool*
Awesome video! Could you please do an origin of Blue Marvel next?
I know everything about Mr Freeze, but I love to hear Uncle Arris story time!
The new origin story is stupid new 52 screws up so much stuff.
Hopefully Dr. Manhattan will magic that origin away.
Yeah
69th like lol.
Why did they change Mr. Freeze's origin from a husband whose supervillain motivation is to cure his dying wife to a creep who wants to cure a woman he barely knows personally
There is also a batman beyond episode with him that is really good.
This is great
I love this series
Love the video Arris but I just want to know if you got that Switch for Christmas
I think it’s also worth mentioning Mr Freeze is one of the best boss battles in Arkham city! He adapts as you fight making no move work twice
Mr. Freeze's episode in Batman Beyond is amazing.
Loved it
Merry Christmas!
This video made me wanna rewatch the entire show and lucky me all four seasons are free on Amazon prime
The heart of ice episode made me feel so bad for freeze you can relate to him
Thank you for mentioning the helmet I was thin about it
One of my all-time favourite lines from Batman the Animated Series:
Bats: Freeze! (ordering the then unidentified perpetrators to stop)
Victor: That's Mr. Freeze to you.
=)
So twice in Mr. Freeze's history, TV had a hand in shaping him. (Mr. Zero to Mr. Freeze and Paul Dini retelling his origin story.) I never knew about the Mr. Zero name so good info. Lastly, I would like to recommend Batman Beyond episode Meltdown as watching material as well. Definitely a favorite and enlightening episode in my humble opinion.
this is the reason I love BATMAN the animated series so muuuuuussssshhh!!!!!! ( this is the ARRIS of my inside saying) and I can't control him !!!!
Mr. Freeze vs. Captain Cold
"Allow me to break the Ice. My name is Freeze. Learn it well for it's the chilling sound of your doom!"
Love the roller coaster
Great episode u should do one on statistic shock
If they ever make a 4th Nolan batman it should be with Robin (Blake) trying to fill the boots of batman and trying his best to prevent Gotham from falling into depression/hopelessness/despair since bane left it in ruins. The main theme would be hope, with robin hoping he can be as good as batman and trying to prevent people from giving up as well as preventing himself from giving up. The 3rd film already takes place during winter, which I think is more than enough foreshadowing. The villain would be Mr freeze trying to turn Gotham into a place overrun by depression, suicide and hopelessness as he wants to project the misery he feels onto others and get revenge for the pain society has caused him.
He would be born with a condition that causes him to overheat uncomfortably and uncontrollably all the time, with constantly red skin and heavy breathing he was made fun of at school and work, he could also maybe have Aspergers (high functioning autism/autism without any learning disability or cognitive impairment), which would give him social awkwardness, bizarre posture, possible development of depression and anxiety, a lack of empathy (on the surface but deep down there is more empathy than the average person, it is just expressed poorly.), little ability to form friendships, one-sided conversations, intense absorption in a special interest, clumsy movements and a dead and monotone voice. The special interest being becoming a doctor so he can one day cure his condition for himself and others as he understands the lifelong misery that comes with it.
He would also have strict parents, meaning until he met his wife not a single person really loved him or saw him as a man with human emotions. He would go on to work at a terrible medical company that uses inmates from Arkham asylum as test subjects and produces medicine as an expensive privilege to be sold for a profit as much as 10x as much as the production cost. After developing a suit to regulate his temperature by covering his skin in a mild, diluted dose of a freezing substance he would be told to stop work on it due to his condition being so rare that manufacture of the suits is not profitable. His wife would also have become sick with dementia and so he would spend as much of his free time as possible working for a cure and with her, the only other human who he ever loved, and who ever loved him. After begging his superiors to let him keep the suit for free as reward for the ground-breaking new technology he has developed he has a meltdown, trashing the entire laboratory, stealing the suit and being fired from his job as well as being hunted down by the police.
After fleeing from his job he turns to crime to get enough money to continue his research in secret, as he can't get a real job or he will be caught, and finds crime also allows him to express his misery and pain onto others without any consequence. He modifies his suit to allow him to project a concentrated dose of his freezing substance from his suit. Once exposed to skin, the freezing substance passes through it and freezes everything, skin, muscle, organs, blood, and is also being circulated through the entire body via the circulatory system. His victims are then completely paralysed from it, and since the substance can't be washed off them due to passing through the skin, they have no choice but to slowly freeze to death in absolutely miserable agony. It can be compared to a sort of freezing napalm, with napalm being considered one of the most horrific possible causes of death.
Edit: I actually only knew a little about Mr freeze before writing this, such as the fact he has a dying wife, so it was funny seeing how similar the official backstory is to my made up one.
6:31-6:45 would 100% be in this new movie.
I got a surprising Nintendo Switch for Christmas 😌 and some great videos I watched from this channel
Doesn't Deadshot do a buncha crazy evil stuff just to be with his daughter? Like Freeze does crazy evil stuff for his wife?
Maybe it's different because Deadshot's more of a dick. But yeah, nearly all Super Villains or just Villains have a tragic backstory that makes it seem like they're screwing reality's morals because they're mad, hurt, or doing it for a justified reason. Most of a these idiots just need a hug. And a pair of handcuffs. And possibly the electric chair.
Freeze is different cuz he wants to save his wife
@@coffeelover0876 what about 2 face lost everything literally
