Great review! Think ill be doing this route myself next January for my 21st! Its so amazing to see a reviewer not getting a business class etc and actually doing a proper review like
I’ll be taking the same flight in March 2025. It’s my first time flying solo so I’m a little nervous but seeing this has helped ease my anxiety so thank you!
You got this! I’ve only done solo flights locally in Europe, but I can safely say it’s quite freeing doing it alone. You only have to worry about yourself, which is a blessing in disguise.
This is always my favourite flight to Tokyo, will be doing it again this coming Feb! As much as I love Narita airport and riding the shinkansen, Haneda is just easier for the quick monorail ride then jump on the JR.
Looks like a decent longhaul flight. Never had the opportunity to fly BA yet. I like how they serve the second meal from back to front. Air New Zealand does the same! View of Fuji never gets old! Next time you find yourself in 🇯🇵 let's grab a pint!
Yeah a good flight overall actually. The second meal back to front only seemed to be on this flight, the others I've been on its been front to back for all 2nd meals, but it's certainly something I'd like to see implemented. Need to try Air New Zealand, maybe next year! 100% up for a pint next time :)
Nice one JT - loved the comedy moment at 4:45 too! Not sure I could go the distance in economy these days tbh, I'll leave it to youngsters like yourselves! Cheers mate.
Thanks for posting. I haven't flown longhaul on BA for a few years and it looks reasonable but nothing terribly special. Seat looked comfortable but the service has really been cut back- meal portions look small for a 12 hour flight. Sounds like the service was great though which can really make a difference on a longhaul flight in economy class.
Spot on really, nothing special but adequate enough and better than some. Food was actually enough really, but a more substantial 2nd meal would have been better
Cheers for the vid. Out of interest, how tall are you? Im looking at booking an economy BA flight to Hong Kong and wondered if its bearable being 6' tall?
Impressed with the price you paid, not bad at all 😊 How long in advance did you buy tickets please? I am looking for Dec 2024 now but wonder if I should wait a bit longer. The price is over £1100 from London return.
I booked our tickets the day they came out, I think 355 days before departure. It such a popular route I can’t see the prices going down any, especially around Christmas time
Shortbreads are in the galley and the crew could bring them. I’ve always had no problem with drinks inbetween meals, tea, gin, wine etc, all available at most times in my experience
Nice video! Have you any recommendations to make long haul flights easier? I'm going to be doing this same flight in february nexr year. It'll also be my first long haul flight 😅
If you can, try get the double seats at the back. Only the last row on BA 787 but worth it as it’s much more comfortable. I also had a mask to make sleeping easier given I’m conscious as a mouth breather at night! A good neck pillow (muji) for ours and a simple eye mask work a treat. I tried getting a bit tipsy too to send me off
Off on this flight in a couple of weeks! Very pleased I stumbled across your video. Out of curiosity, I saw in another comment you mentioned the twin seats at the back are best - why is that? I’d have thought you wouldn’t recline as much & right next to the galley & toilets? What was your experience of queues for the loos down the cabin? Also, what re the headphones like? Is it worth bringing your own/can you connect AirPods to the screen?
Have a great trip. In terms of the seats at the back, as a couple we prefer them so we don't have to interrupt other people when we want to get up etc. They recline just as must as all of the other seats but come with the benefit of additional under seat storage (the missing seat area) which saves going in and out of the lockers for books/drinks etc. Given the length of the flight the the orientation of the toilets, people tended to queue into the galley rather than by our seats and the queue was never more than 2 - 3 people so that wasn't a problem. We didn't find it particularly noisy either with the toilet flush/ galley noise. The earphones are pretty poor in all honesty, best to bring your own that plug in with a 3.5mm jack, or we bought a blue tooth transmitter on amazon to connect our AirPods to which worked out best as they're noise cancelling so a win win.
Still don’t get how BA chose their fleet. I have trip from LHR-HND next month and HKG-LHR the following month and LGW-BKK next year. So three flights in old club world not club suite ☹️
They’re working their way through updating them… the problem is it took them too long to realise they needed to make the change and invest. Maybe one day Gatwick will get the update
Enjoyable video JT. Would have interested your subsctibers had you mentioned the Russia overflying ban has added a couple of hours to the flying time. London-Tokyo flights usually take the southern route (as your flight did) whereas Tokyo-London services take the northerly Polar route.
Thank you! It’s a really interesting routing now, I’m planning on mentioning it for the return flight. As you say it’s a polar pacific routing that saw us jump back a day flying home and then jump forward again.
I recently flew from Boston to London on BA’s Boeing 787-9 and the IFE screens we’re exactly the same in this video and are very outdated. And they weren’t working when I was on the flight. Are BA going to refurbish all their long haul planes with the newer and more modern touchscreens? I hear that most of their long haul planes are fitted with these older touchscreens
Their Heathrow based 777s have more or less all been refurbished now, although I’m not sure if they all got the ife refit. The 777-300s did and they’re far better. 787-10s and a350s all have the new spec. 787-8 then -9 then a380s last over the next 4 years is my understanding
@@JTsJourneys I was on one of their 777 200 on the way over and they still have the old IFE screens were the same as well in economy. There beyond outdated and can do with replacing with the newer touchscreens
I've never liked economy in the B777, it's not comfortable. The B787 seems more roomy but I agree, BA has a slightly less than state of the art IFE on these planes. Maybe they'll be getting a cabin refresh soon...
@@JTsJourneys Hi! I looked at the booking page and it seems like there are 2 flights pers day, an early one with an A350 and a later one with the 787…for much more ££.
You can check the wind a few days before for the best indication ahead of the flight. Aircraft land into the wind so check that out and monitor arrivals to see which routes they take depending on wind direction
@@JTsJourneys For the price it’s shocking especially for BA. they could and should do a lot better, glad you don’t mind it tho, same as we didn’t mind school dinners. 😊

so true!
Ill be taking the same plane on Ba05 next week, Finally going back to Tokyo after 5 years, cant wait :D
I'm jealous! Have a fantastic time

Sooo much quicker to get into Tokyo from Haneda, have a great time in Feb :)
Taking this exact flight soon. My longest so far is BostonLondon and I'm very tall so a bit nervous 😂 thanks for the video!
Hopefully you’ll be fine :) food, sleep, excitement about Japan! Have a great trip :)
Great channel!
Thank you!
Really great review!

Great review, thanks Jamie. Just booked two tickets on that exact flight for March 2025 to visit our son. 🙂

Just wondered if any snack such as biscuit or tea offered in between the two meals?

No problem, yes there’s a universal socket between each seat, 2 for every 3 seats

It's gone crazy expensive to fly now😭
I looked the other day and I struggled to get anything for less than £1200 return in economy direct! Super popular now
I wanted to use ANA again but they are so expensive. BA looks like a good option.
I'd love to try ANA or JAL, both are better from what I've seen. BA are a good way to travel though
Do they hand out landing forms on the plane?
Yes they do, bring a pen

How do you deal with Jet lag???!
and yes i agree, chocolate moose is the best
Depends on the direction, westbound try and land early and stay awake all day. Eastbound, try and arrive late in the day and crash out.

They’ve started their refresh on the 787s so hopefully before long the passenger experience will be consistent across the fleet
@@JTsJourneys Good to hear - I like BA!

Still a 787 on the Tokyo flights as far as I'm aware. I know they've scheduled the 777 not there too for some dates over the Winter season.
