one of the most satisfying achievements of any guitar player must be nailing that main riff of can't stop ... and i mean really nailing it. the full stroke, the heavy attack, the correct muting of the unfretted strings... i think the 5-7 intro bit leading up to it is played on the neck pick-up as it sounds way softer. so switching quickly right before the main riff starts is quite hard but really makes the whole guitar part - and you - shine. ;-)

@@Kurtis8801it was the first song I forced myself to learn,it took me like a month (granteed I had been playing bass for a year) it's tricky but it's not a big accomplishment at all

    John Frusciante the best!!

  •  5 месяцев назад

4:07 He used an Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress (a flanger), at least in concerts
4:35 He only had a Fuzzrite when the Stadium Arcadium World Tour began

A few things that I’d like to clarify:
    1. It isn’t known what guitar John used to record Can’t Stop, although while playing live he usually stays true to the original recording, but in case of can’t stop it doesn’t really help as he plays it both with the tele and strats.
He also contradicted himself on multiple occasions saying that almost the whole by the way record was recorded with the 62 and then stating it was all telecaster. I don’t think we will ever know.
    2. John famously uses a 100W Marshall Silver Jubilee head in combination with a 200W Marshall Major head with 2 full stacks(later on only the B cabinets were being used/are being used) of Marshall 1960 cabinets equipped with celestion G12T-75 speakers. Miced with Shure sm57 and probably some other microphones.
So the two amps work simultaneously in stereo thanks to the Boss Ce-1 that splits the signal. It’s not just the major or just the silver jubilee.
    3. The amps had some gain themselves thanks to their valve nature but what also added some gain and color to the tone were the preamp of the Boss CE-1 and most likely an mxr micro amp that he tends to use while playing that song live.
    4. Not totally sure but I think most people agree that it was the electro-harmonix deluxe electric mistress during the bridge that he also used on This is the Place and Hard to Concentrate
    5. John didn’t use Fuzzrite until the start of the Stadium Arcadium tour (2006). So it’s probably big muff

Can't stop was recorded on his custom shop tele, not the strat, and I believe the amps were two different marshalls running at once.

Love your videos. Would love a video on how Noel fought Liam Gallagher to sing the lyrics to Don’t Look Back In Anger.
Think it’s their best song personally, and it’s a fun story.
