Look up a bands top 10-20 biggest influences and you will find pieces (or entire sections or even entire songs if the writer is unscrupulous or oblivious) of their music all over their stuff. Music is language. You dont invent a new language for every song. Its all the same alphabet and sentences. Context is everything

Growing up 80s and 90s in Dallas, RHCP was a huge part of my life and we listened to Pantera, Metallica and several other rock bands of the times but when BSSM released we all stopped and took note then RHCP announced they were done. That was my welcome to reality moment that bands didnt just exist, they were people to.
Until that moment I had always thought bands like Suicidal and Beastie boys would always just exist but RHCP made me realise these guys struggled to live in the world the same as us.

To be honest, back then, as a teen, I listened to a lot of music not so much because I liked it, but because I felt I needed to be part of something to be cool or something like that. It was more about identity than about the actual music.
I wasn't even some fashion victim follower who listened to the popular stuff to be part of the in-crowd. I was a contrarian loner, but I listened to music that seemed to fit that image I had of myself.
The Californication album was one of the few exceptions. It was one of the very few I genuinely listened to for the music and on which I liked pretty much every song.

I remember being a kid and every time the video would play on MTV I would use my ps1 joypad pretending to play it. So many good memories.

Man I really hate people that downplay Anthony's role in the Peppers or say that he's a bad singer or he can't write lyrics. He straight up spawned Californication out of thin air. One of the most iconic songs started from his singing. This is proof that you don't have to sing perfectly or reach the highest notes while doing the weirdest, most pretentious techniques to be one of the most known voices in rock music.

Oh, I always thought the car segment was inspired by Midtown Madness. Stage and color palette matches better

Great history- aren’t “the spheres” a reference to foo fighters singing Bowie?

Imagine if they make a remake of the Californication video!!!
With the technology we have now...
It would be epic for their californication album anniversary
