This was my holy grail grinder for a long time. Until I backed and bought the Key V1 and saw how Weber operates and how they treat their customers. After that experience, I’ll never consider buying their products again. Customer service is so important with expensive niche products like this.
I've just pulled a trigger on eg1 onyx and it already went through customs. As for the customer service, I've heard many stories, but at the end when I contacted them for more information, I've got prompt and straight to the point responses, they went above and beyond to assist me with some shipping related things. So I can't say that my interaction with their CS team was bad, on the contrary I was positively surprised, since I have thought that it will be subpar. Will see how thing go from here. In my opinion product has to be good enough so you won't need the service. Since it's third version of the grinder I believe it is a safe bet, but only time will tell 😊
Can you please talk about setting the grind on this grinder, Do you start from the chirp point? And how much do you increase to get your espresso setting?
I have been using ODE+SSP for a few years and waiting for Timemore 78. I am so tempted to pull the trigger on EG1. Do you have any perspective on how EG1 compares to these two? I enjoy light roast like you for pour over. And I was thinking to use Ultra Low Fine burrs?
Random suggestion, if you're in the world of diy... I had an ammo box mounted with a quick attachment clip to the side of my coffee set up. I used it as a knock box and spray painted it white. This might match your minimalist industrial vibe you have going on. Love the channel. I hope to see more stylish coffee accessory videos. 😊
Happen to have a link to what the ammo box quick clip looks like? I like the idea of something hidden on the left side next to the machine for the knockbox
Super interested in your detailed take on its coffee. I’m also a medium/trad espresso (neat) + light roast filter drinker. Love the EG-1 Cores and ULFs for the light roast filter, but…not having great time with medium roast/short ratio (ristretto) espressos.
That is a beautiful grinder. I just got a Fellow Ode Gen 2 (loving it so far), I watched your review of it before I purchased it. While the EG-1 obviously is better (as it should be) I'd love to hear how much better, or different you think it is in the cup. It is hard to grasp how much more an end game grinder actually does for your coffee, when you have not experienced one yourself.
I am on the fence on the EG-1. Am a big espresso + oat milk fan and am currently on a Niche zero / Lelit Bianca setup for the past 2 years. To jump or not to jump?
@@itsxris I do however want a second grinder so that I can run 2 types of beans simultaneous without having to redial-in. I do also have a bit of an upgrade itch. ACAIA Orbit and other flat burr set-ups such as the DF64v or 83? Thoughts welcome from you and the community.
I still think the Fellow Ode Gen 2 is one of the BEST brew grinders you could get. If you want a 2nd dedicated espresso grinder then I would suggest the DF83, DF64 Gen 2, or Niche Duo (depending on your budget).

8g beans, 130g water! Pulse pour in 30-second pulses, 30g ish per pour. Very easy, very delicious. Relatively fine grind size (about 300 microns higher than espresso size).
Looking forward to the review. I don't understand why their customer service is apparently consistently awful towards their customers. . Talk about getting to the goal line and fumbling... They ought to rename themselves the Atlanta Falcons.
Is the opinion still based on the 1 public incident or repeated other incidents (that I’m not aware of because it wasn’t publicized)? I bought various accessories from them and had to cancel or modify multiple orders and the customer service was great every time. Just curious because from my personal experience their customer service was as expected and I’m not sure where this public opinion is from outside of the public incident.
I will say my customer service experience thus far has also been quite good. But it's worth noting (hopefully) its because they've made changes due to the way most people view the company currently.
Honestly awesome grinder but incredibly overpriced. How such an expensive machine’s packaging is so meh is beyond me. Like seriously it looks similar to the packaging of a DF83.

To be fair, they know this and just acquired the best customer service person in the entire coffee world. Andrew (from Flair). Absolute game changer.

This sounds like a cool idea! I've been meaning to think about a better knockbox solution because I hate having it on the top.

For primarily milk based drink consumption I don't think it's worth the exponentially massive increase in price

Could you share your Cafec 27 recipe? I got it recently and have a hard time getting a good cup out of it.
8g in, 130g out, pulse pour in 30g increments, fine grind (maybe moka pot size)
