    If making coffee is your number 1 hobby and you're going to use it for life, you should buy the best as early as possible. You will make use of it, and you'll eventually get your money's worth. You'll have pride using it every day with zero gear envy, and it'll give you joy. Much better than obsessing about it for 10 years, and spending thousands of hours daydreaming and reading reviews about it. In reality, it's not that expensive compared to a new car. Just buy a used car like a 5 year old Toyota that's going to last you 10 years, and with the $20-30k you saved, you can buy the best of the best for all your top hobbies.

    Yo Lee is a beast for shipping the Eg1 to you and allowing you to use it for two months. It would take some heavy heavy convincing to have mine out of the house for any appreciable time. Good review man.

      @@michaelfabian3414 you are talking about alignment or chamber access or both? And what is your experience with burr alignment on these high level grinders. Is Eg-1 better aligned then other high end grinders, or that is not an issue on this type of grinders?

    No, not really. There are grinders with a lot less pain and issues at a much lower price point, case in point Lagom P100.
    What you buy into is WW fanboyism, nothing more nothing less. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a decent grinder, just not $4000 decent.

      I have a friend who is buying an Ultra Levercraft. They are buying 98mm SSP burrs, sending it to Titus to regrind to the pre 2015 EK geometry, and sending back to Ultra to recoat. It'll be about $600. They are getting the Utlra v. EG-1 due to alignment capabilities and consistent RPM according to them.

    Have you tried the Monolith flat with shuriken LM burrs I thought it did very well for coarser brew methods. I tested with aeropress using a finer than filter grind size. Same with Weber key and I assume related 83mm mazzer conical grinders I was surprised it does pretty well for aeropress.

    To what extent would you say the Niche Zero works well as a dual purpose grinder when considering the price point?

    • @LastAphelion
      @LastAphelion 3 года назад +1

      I think there are many better options for that price, for two grinders even, the Niche is precisely the kind of fallacy he's talking about around the 7min mark. Its better suited for classic espresso and not so much filter. I do think it's overpriced. I myself have opted for a Jx-Pro for classic espresso and a DF64 with multi purpose burrs for filter, and to also test lighter allonge style espresso. I'll have more flexibility with having both and still comes out to less than what some people have payed for a Niche. If I hate the DF64 burr I still have the option of swapping them out, plus I've heard user reports that the JX-Pro tastes just like the Niche but at a fraction of the cost.

    • @michaelfabian3414
      @michaelfabian3414  3 года назад +1

      Using the burrs from Mazzer’s Robur espresso grinder, the Key will not keep up with the performance of grinders designed with burrs meant for filter coffee brewing (eg. the ultra burrs for the EG-1)

      @@michaelfabian3414, thank you for the response! I currently have a Monolith Flat (upgraded to Shuriken LM) but I would like to optimize for filter. • @BensCoffeeRants
      @BensCoffeeRants 2 года назад

      @@0bjectiveCat I thought the Monolith flat with 75mm shuriken LM burrs were really good multipurpose burrs. I think it works really well for aeropress using a finer than regular drip grind size (just how I like my aeropress, I also do it pretty concentrated) the Weber key was also surprisingly good. Sometimes better sometimes worse than monolith or p64 with ssp unimodal burrs. But that also could be due to me not getting the grind size exactly the same on each grinder.
