  • @danielcimpeanu

The flimsy bits on the side are actually more useful than you'd think.. but only if you're annoyed by scratches on the camera body, caused by the strap lugs. They wrap around the strap lugs, with the strap going through them. In this way, the point of contact between the lugs and the camera body is shielded by those protective "flimsy bits" :)

    • @danielcimpeanu
      @danielcimpeanu 4 года назад

The PD system is amazing in itself, and more so for mirrorless systems where weight doesn’t go overboard. But you do need to check the wear on the clips now and then, and replace them as per PD recommendation. As for the strap lugs, standard type straps and those protective bits, they are quite good to have - I’ve been using them on my hand strap and there are no marks whatsoever on the body. Yes, camera is a tool but I for one like to take care of my tools and enjoy seeing them in good shape. Even more so when the price point is that high, it’d kill me to have a brand new camera all scratched up in one year of use.
But then again I’m not a pro and my gear sits in the bag more than out.. if I’d make money out of my shots then yes, the approach would be the same. Until then, my camera gear gets baby-level protection :)
Nice videos btw, thanks for sharing!

Also with those flappy bits it's not comfortable to hold the camera... i removed them too. So annoying!

Some people seem to have serious problems with the IBIS when slowly moving the camera around an object. The sensor seems to make jumps in that case. Seems not to happen with panning and tilting. I don't know if they have a faulty camera or if its a problem, if it can be fixed via firmware or not. But they claim to say they DIDN'T use DIS (IBIS Boost) and its better with native lenses and terrible with 3rd party lenses.

You are the 1st to bring up the downside of the flip screen for video. I will always have a mic plugged in. I want to use this on a gimbal. There is a cable from the gimbal where I can control the cameras operations from the gimbal handle. I’m assuming it would plug into the USB-C port on the camera. Which might be a problem if I have to use that port for my mic? Thoughts?

Great video Roman! This camera is so close to perfect that Fujifilm is going to have a few headaches trying to improve it for a foreseeable X-T5 and It leaves Fuji as the indisputable king of APSC -if it wasn't already-. Now they should re-vamp some of the lenses so they're better suited for all those videos capabilities they're implementing in pretty much all their cameras. Keep up the good work!

Bang on initial thoughts Roman and whilst the want is in me, because it's new and shiny, many of the features you touched on there would make no difference whatsoever to my photography. Certainly I don't think in my opinion enough change to justify the cost and I use an XT1 as a second body now, but think a second XT3 when I can afford it. Mirror systems, easier for me to get to grips with. Thanks as usual for taking the time to share your thoughts mate, keep well and keep safe.

I held up buying the XT4 when I was able to get the XT3 with battery grip for free. I will wait to see how Fuji tweeks the XT4 and may get it at a later date when I can get it with a free battery grip or better deal. I have found that cameras are so good today that I feel no rush to get the newest and latest. But I still would like to see what the XH2 will bring. One thing I like about Fuji is how they have sales with deals on their equipment. I just have to be patient and keep an eye out for them.

very nice review. thanks ever so much. I've had my XT4 for about a week and a half and I'm loving shooting it. Most of what I plan to do will be either with Canon FD lenses, or Rokinon Fuji mount cinema lenses---all hand held.
The IBIS is a big improvement over the X-H1---a camera I love! But the X-H1 body is far superior. I have small hand, but still the X-H1 is so much better to handle. (I really want an X-H2!!!!---FUJI, I hope you're listening).

Don't you think that removing the input jack is a non-sense besides the fact that you can't use a powerbank to fuel the camera? Besides the fact that introduced the hot swap for memory card: pointless if you can't power it for a longer time if you have to adapt the microphone over the usb-c. they also removed thedetachable side door...is a non sense for me...do you agree?

I’ve always wanted a Fuji camera, the tactile controls and film simulations seem fun to play around with. I have an A7II right now and looking to upgrade. I could get a new A7III with a tamron 28-75 f2.8 for cheaper than a new XT4 with the 16-55 f2.8. Would you still recommend the Fuji over the Sony for that price? (sony about $100 cheaper) I plan on using it for 50/50 photo and video, namely travel and music videos on the vid side. I was leaning heavily toward the Fuji because of the smaller form factor for travel but the Sony is actually lighter comparing the two setups I mentioned, as full frame! (1262g vs 1200g)
Edit: I only have the kit lens for the A72 so no need to worry about switching brands and converting lenses

Thank you and great video. I am a Panasonic G9 user and have a few of their top peices of Leica glass. I am primarily a backpacker in the U.S.A. I backpack into the backcountry of Wyoming in the Bridger-Teton wilderness and also the Uinta high wilderness in the state of Utah for opportunities to photograph landscapes, landscape features, nature and wildlife when it agrees to be photographed. I will usually spend a week or more minimum alone and I have to pack food, gear, photo and photography support equipment. I originally went with the G9 because of lighter weight equipment and affordability.
I am having issues being happy with the low light performance of the M 4/3 system and thought a step up to a Fujifilm specifically to try and help remedy that situation. I would plan to carry my G9 with my Lumix Leica 100-400mm f/4-6.3 long lens for longer photo possibilities in lighter times of the day. I had thought to maybe try the XT-3 or XH-1 with just a single wide faster weather sealed O.I.S lens or even a good prime with the wider angle and the same attributes in weather sealing and O.I.S. for landscape and nature. Unfortunately the XT-4 is out of reach for me at the moment. Is there a lens body combo that you might suggest for my situation? Thank you.

Greetings Mr. Fox. Wonderful assessment on the XT4. Just coming off from a Nikon system, I've decided to go Fuji as my next set of photography gear but for hobbyist purposes only. May I inquire as to your recommendation given that:
    1. I'm not a Vlogger (Or at least I haven't delved into the hobby yet)
    2. LCD construction issues (of which I've always heard from reviewers that the tilting screen would be more ideal for photogs)
*Question: Would you still recommend the XT4 (Provided that improved AF, IBIS and that 300K shutter actuation somehow gives me more security with the unit over, say, an XT3/X100v combo)?

    • @nathanielngosy
      @nathanielngosy 4 года назад

@@snapsbyfox Thank you for responding Mr. Fox. I see. Sometimes though I'm drawn to XT4's new features:
      - IBIS (For low light/night photography without tripods)
      - Better AF (Is it? VS the XT3)
      - Longer batt life
      - More secured eye cup(?)
      - And that 300,000 Shutter life actuation
*Do you think these 4-factors are reason enough to choose the XT4 and worth the sacrifice for that LCD tilt screen preference to be less conspicuous on the streets?
*As for considering the X100v as a 2nd body should I go for it as well, I like how its 23mm (v.2.0) features which renders sharper "close focused images" VS the 23/2.0 lense and, also, it "maybe" beneficial to have a 2nd body. What do you think?
*Lastly, have you shot street photography using the XT4's LCD flipped out? If so, is it really more difficult to be less conspicious?
      *Thank you again, Mr. Fox.

I have an X-T30 which I just bought and I'm slightly gutted it doesn't have IBIS so I thought the X-H1 could fill that void but I'm probably going to hold out for the X-T4 by saving a little more. So, for someone who's looking to get into the Fujifilm camera line and is not interested in video. You would suggest getting the X-T3 ? Also, for the X-T3 how long/how many pictures does it take to empty the battery ?
    Great video

i owned the xt3 and would highly recommend the xt3 if you dont shoot video. but with saying that the xt3 also takes some amazing videos. the video features in the xt3 are one of the best . only thing it was missing for me was ibis for video which is why i sold mine and have ordered the xt4. if you have the money and you think you might get into video in the future itsa good investment

Can I ask. Is the LCD screen resolution better than the XT3? The XT4 is 1.6 Million vs 1 Million on the XT3. I wonder if you can actually tell?

the wobbliness with wide angle + IBIS just comes down to physics I think, because of how stretched the sides of the frame become.

Excellent Overview mate. Can't wait to order mine, I sold all my Sony A6400 gear and moving over to XT4. Does it break the files into 4GB chunks like before? I hoped put longer record times past 30mins but not a deal breaker

I'm a hybrid event shooter but the flip screens aren't for me, I never video myself and just can't get used to them being off center. Credit Fuji for having the photo video switch it's so important if you are hybrid shooting.

Flips screens aren’t just for blogging. The tilt it proves can give you incredibly flexibility when using gimbals (screen isn’t blocked and it is actually in front of you since you use a gimbal to the side of your body) photography as well for those crazy angles especially vertically shooting from near the floor or really high or mounting the camera on some weird angle. I don’t vlog but I can’t see myself using a camera without a flip/tilt screen!

Thanks for another great review Roman. In my case I doubt I will shout at 1/5th of a second much, but do you think your pictures are sharper say at 1/125th with the 16-55 thanks to IBIS? If so, thats already a no brainer even for photography only :)
