Hey Roman, just a little tip for taking care of the camera after a rainy shoot: keep those tiny bags that come with new shoes to keep moisture away at all time in your camera bag. When you put your camera back in the bag place that anti-moisture bag close to the camera for some hours, maybe even overnight. That will prevent moisture and fog inside. I'm keeping my X-T3 as well. IBIS is definitely a nice to have in some situations (also for stills) but that's really the only big difference which makes X-T4 a more capable camera especially now that firmware 4.0 for X-T3 is out.
I took my X-T3, Kit lens, and battery grip into London camera exchange for trading towards an X-T4 all were in Grade 1 condition, the camera had only had around only around 600 shots. I was quoted £800.00 online in exchange if in top condition. I was 100% expecting to get this though was hoping for a bit more due to its out of box condition. The person checking the camera (Exeter Branch Jonah Rice) decided to take the camera out the back, no warning was given, and was gout at the back of the store doing whatever he was doing for at least 10 minutes. When he returned he informed me due to condition he could only offer me £660.00. My reply was what the f*** are you on about due to the condition it’s immaculate. He pointed out a large dig on the right-hand side exposing the metal underneath. This was not on the camera before I left the home and was not on the camera when he inspected it in front of me. It only appeared after he returned from his 10 minutes away from public access... I took this matter up with their head office and asked them to review the CCTV footage as I suspected his ether switched the camera for an old damaged one or he dropped it himself and tried to cover it up. I was informed there was a witness who was out the back with him who confirmed the camera was not damaged by Jonah Rice, if this person confirmed this they are both guilty, likely one good friend backing up another because this camera was in A1 condition before it left my site. If this is the case then it could not have been my camera as I had only used this camera around 8 times and never in rain or dropped or knocked and stored correctly. I was finally offered a further £50.00 still not good enough but I had no other option but to take it or have my camera returned and for me to return the X-T4 which was now damaged in store so I could never get a good price even if I went elsewhere. My conclusion is no way where they going to admit responsibility. No way was the staff member going, to tell the truth. As someone who works in camera rentals, what you’re experiencing with the lens mount becoming easier/less tight over time is common among almost all cameras, even pro level Canon full frame and Sony mirrorless.
Great vid as always. I'm more in love with using the screen than I thought I would be. I'm having a weird time with the IBIS, hopefully it'll come around. The massive battery life and separate movie/still settings was more than worth the upgrade alone for me. And if I need to ever use auto exposure movie mode, I do it through the ISO to avoid the 'stepping'.
Thanks for the review, Roman. I was thinking about buying the X-T4 in the new year to bring with me for my "Photography on location" videos. I don't own any other X-T body so I think I will jump into the system with the upgraded version of the X-T3.

Excellent review. I think the strength of this camera is that, once you are familiar with it and practiced, you'll get what you went out to get. And, I think it is a great partner to the BMPCC4k.
Roman! Sold my a7s3 because I’m not able to grade much and prefer SOOC and maybe minor tweaks. Xs10, Xt4, xh2 are my choices. 70/30 video to photo. Travel, family, documentary, educational videos etc. looking for a body rec and 1 lens rec.
Thanks for that ! I am a long time Canon shooter . I currently have a 7d , 7dii , and 6d (plus 9 or 10 lenses), a collection I have built up over the last 10yrs . I am seriously considering tossing the lot on eBay and getting an xt 4 and a couple of lenses . I am seriously sick of the useless bulk of the Canons . From what I have gathered the xt4 will do everything at least as well as my current kit and most things better , while costing a fraction of the price of an RF setup , and fitting into a single reasonably sized camera bag. I actually plan on dropping into my local camera shop on my lunch break today to try one on for size.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the camera. I do have the X-T4 but I would never subject it to such a downpour, I don’t go out with the camera even if it’s just a drizzle, I’ll stay home, watch Netflix and have a drink (or two). I shoot 100% stills (I don’t have any interest in video), but I still would get this one over the X-T3 if nothing else, just for the battery life, I also have the X-T2 and the difference in batteries (life) is just as you said. Stay safe Roman.
Awesome video! Helped me decide in getting the X-T4 :) I did get water in the battery compartment somehow... no damage though. Upon inspecting I noticed the battery door's little plastic square doesn't really seal the door. A friend's X-T4 has the same gap in the battery door. I called Fujifilm North America Support to ask about it, and they said the camera is only moisture resistant and would not ever recommend using it under any rain (although the official site claims we can lol). Support also told me if the camera had suffered water damage, they wouldn't cover it...
Excellent video, thank you. One thing, is that in your summary, you say get an xt3 if you're only interested in photos, but earlier you say you appreciate the IBIS on the xt4 for stills due to shaky hands. I'm not interested in video and don't have steady hands, so not sure which one to get now.
04:00 I CANNOT wait for the Scotland video now. That is some "Oh Damn!" type of weather you guys got there. Also, really looking forward to the photographs from the trip ^^
super helpful video - thank you! really appreciate your thoughts and review overall; and adds an extra dimension and layer of confidence for me in hearing about your experience with the water exposure and repair.
Hello @Roman! How you doing? I just discovered your channel and Im watching a lot of your content. Amazing! I would like to ask you something. What did you use to paint the Fuji logo and the camera model? I thought this stealth aspect was sensational! Greetings!
Great video and many thanks for the summary! One question, I'm currently deciding between a Canon r6 and a Fuji xt-4 (I've just sold my 6D) and looking for good reasons for getting either one. I mostly shoot outside while travelling (with lots of heat or cold). All the best!
I don’t understand all the objections to the fully articulated screen. Is it just snobbery? It’s invaluable. I use the XT4 for astrophotography because of its superb ISO invariance. Try using a camera without an articulated screen when your scope is pointing straight at the zenith and the camera is at knee height. Or maybe they enjoy lying on their backs on frozen ground at midnight. 🙄
The change could be that there was some moisture between the lens and the body. By taking the lens of without blowing and drying the place between the lens and the body that moisture has the change to go beyond the gasket.
I ve had the same problem with the lens mount. I got caught in a snow storm with the 16-80mm and when I got home the camera was soaking wet. When I dismounted the lens water was on the mount. My camera did not shut down or had any problems but I got worried when I saw how far water managed to get in.
Had the same issue with my shutter button and it wasn’t from moisture. Seems it was a small grain of sand from the beach. Same experience as you, excellent service from Fujifilm, where they replaced the top plate.
Thanks for the video, my shutter button has started to stick when I was up in the Assynt rain last week. Sending it back to Fuji on Monday. Wow Sandwood Beach 👍 been there on the way to Cape Wrath. I find the 50-140 struggles to focus in the rain in both auto and manual focus. I have noticed the video exposure stepping, havent seen it before even on my X-T2.
Hey and thank you for this beautiful review! I decided to buy it, after I took into consideration A7 III and A 6600 options. As a kit product, it has a Fujifilm XF 16-80mm lens and I wish to know if it is a good one (inside offices pictures, interviews, horses competitions) or I should buy the body only first and choose another lens for it. Thank you very much, again!
Interesting review especially the weather sealing. My mate uses Olympus and has used his cameras in downpours with no issues. Still unsure about XT4. My XT2 is hanging on but really would like IBIS
Hi Roman. I'm new to your channel, but I thought that was a good summing up. I only take photo's, so my XT3 is perfect. But I'd consider an XT4 for the flippy screen and battery life.
@@snapsbyfox I'm in no hurry Roman. I can't go buying cameras all the time. The screens aren't new though. I still have an old Canon Sureshot compact with a fully articulated screen. I like them. They are fine when you get used to the offset.
Good review and it confirmed a few things for me. The sticky button and top plate replacement is a real problem for me living on the coast. I've had my Xt2 top plate replaced one or two times. Super expensive once my warranty ran out. I also had a water splash that ruined a WR lens. I'll definitely buy extended insurance if I get the Xt4. You had a 2 day turnaround!? That's not my experience at all. I've had several Fuji repairs and I'm always out of a camera for a few weeks.
Well in my own opinion any device that feature weather sealing Should resist being exposed to rain, not to being submerged into any sort of reaver or sea but water drops yeas it should, that is my thinking.
I'll stick to the X T3 and OIS lenses for many reasons. Basically I am still amazed at the results in both photo and video. The rest, screen, build and other features is icing on the cake. The flip screen on the X T4 is an accident waiting to happen. An X T3 firmware upgrade is due around the 30 Oct and it keeps getting better and better. The pics and vid colours is eye candy right out of the camera! The X H2 should be interesting and possible FF. Thx for posting.
Hey mate great review. I shoot surfing, in water and from the beach. Never used a fuji before but thinking of trying the xt-4. Do you think it’s performance would be good enough for fast paced surfing? Or should I stick to the canon cameras
Roman were you in face/eye AF for the bit at 18:00 where the exposure was all over the place? On my X-S10, it definitely adjusts more frequently to try to adjust for the face AE as opposed to turning off face AE/AF and adjusting for the whole scene. But the X-S10 does the same aperture stepping. I'm still strongly considering returning my X-S10 for an X-T4, for the battery, weather sealing, and improved controls. I hate to give up the size, grip, and dedicated video record button though...
Hi there, one more subject - Does the camera overheat if taking videos? I have a Canon d5 and i'm looking to upgrading to Fuji in the near future. Thanks for the review. stay safe mate.
XT3/XT4 lacks Bird/Animal Eye Focus which is now a critical "must have" feature in action cameras. If you are considering this camera, wait for the Bird/Animal Eye firmware update (if it ever comes).
this is only a "critical" must have feature if you photograph animals. For someone who does architecture it is pointless.... all about individual needs and not a feature list
Hey Roman, wow....October 2020 seems like ages ago given the craziness of that year. I came back to watch this video again because I thought since the XH-2S is now out with the XH-2 and XT-5 soon to come there might be some good prices out there on the XT4 and was wondering if it would be worth trading my XT-3 in to get one. I'm only doing photography right now, but would like to give video a shot some day and it would be nice to have IBIS to help my old shaky hands! 🙂 So, just wanted to say thanks for this practical rather than tech spec overview of the XT-4! Question:(not specific to the XT-4 but....) I often see you use only the LCD to compose and shoot. I find that difficult because the screen isn't quite as bright as I need. How far do you go with increasing the brightness of your LCD? Have a great week......
Looks like a great camera. Does it have GPS? How is does the camera a handle temps between - 15c to 30C? Where I live that's usually the max range of temp I get. Any issues with buttons or anything like that? I am curious if the various parts can handle the temp chnages in the winter and the cold temps, and how the camera handles heat, I need a camera i can go for a mountianbike ride and explore and take picture of the trails I ride, and various things I see, without camera a overheating just in few pics, like my Sony xz premium phone does. So I need a proper camera for shooting, my phone is not a problem in the winter, but in the summer it is. With waterproofing i guess I can get one of those bags with a string like some photographers use.
You forgot to talk about Eterna... In my opinion there is nothing like it for video, it makes everything look great and there also helps the workflow so much that for me is a no-brainer!
@@snapsbyfox I understand, but just wanted to state that eterna is something that only Fuji has and is the one thing that made me fall in love with Fuji forever!!! I just really hope Fuji comes with some kind of contender to the bmcc or bmpc and reds for video, cause they might not even know but their video quality is among the best in my humble opinion!
Super nice review of X-T4! Just a question, hope I didnt missed the point or info. But how can I see if its the new or old x-t4 version I buy? In these times it just might be online. I mean, one the new one is the flip screen so hard and change of objectiv, a 2 hand job. Or was that after they chanced the top plate?
Another great informative review. I have an XT-2 which I think is amazing, in order to shoot zoom and save money am using a minolta M fit 80-200 mf on an adapter. Ok so far, it works very well and i`ve had good results. But it is impossible to hand hold when at at a reasonable amount of zoom. Question; Do I exchange the XT-2 for a XT-4 to get the in-body I.S or do I invest in fuji lenses with stabilisation ? Keep up the good work.
If you looking for zooms 16-55 has better Image quality but no IS. I would go XT4 with 16-55 because I reckon you don't want to compromise on image quality.
I noticed with the auto exposure in video part of this video in the footage you showed it seemed to change the ISO when you or the camera moved closer or further away, so maybe focus tracking has some role to play in the fluctuating auto exposure ISO setting?
13:34 might be cus the trail was not off camber and was more even, and then it was off camper and uneven so you might have done more wobbly and harsher walking. Jerking the camera a little bit. But really in sudutiond like this only way to fix ths ti's to walk carefully use smrs and legs to absorb the impacts basically walk in a sneaky way while holding camera in both hands, so slightly bend arms and legs. It's possible to make it stable enough even with no ibis by using this method if you are able to do this. But this is not a good way of hiking.
great stuff. i have the camera too, love it. i'm always one to second guess a purchase, or eye up a different brand, but i would still choose the X-T4 again today, and considering the variety in the camera market, that says something. for stills, i've always left ibis on, but read that you might actually get sharper pics, at high shutter speeds, with it off. have you tried this at all?
My biggest concern about IBIS jerkiness, I really want a camera that performs well in both, stills and video. Defenedly i need to pan and moving out with the camera, so how bad is IBIS? How often is it doing that random clunkiness? Do you think it just a software thing? can Fujifilm make it better? Other cameras like Panasonic do it so much better... I already decided to buy this camera but that IBIS thing, another option is Olympus OMD1 MARK iii which has the best IBIS and really nice other features. But that smaller sensor. So this video makes me think should I change my opinion and take a smaller sensor camera with good ibis, or this a bigger sensor and not that great IBIS... I will start making a lot of handheld video, vlog-style, walking, ski hiking, mountaineering, ice climbing, that's the reason why i want to update my camera, small compact and fact i don't need a gimbal for good video... Have you tested IBIS on video with lenses; 16-80 f4, 18-55 f2.8-4? how good video i can get when i using two IBIS (body and lens own)?
I am honestly confused between xt4 and Sony a7iii. Both are equally tempting cameras to buy. I want to shoot wedding and so some studio portraits. What's your take on that?
It is disappointing that the water sealing is so bad, that you need to send it to Fuji. There are other issues as well, like a randomly freeze when you use self timer. My X-T4 was freezing several times under normal conditions as well. I hope for a firmware fix, currently I am using 1.03. My old X-20 never had such issues. Would I buy the X-T4 again? Not 100% sure ! Thank you for the video!
Thank you! My 87 year old Irish friend has told me to focus on a subject, landscape or portrait or wild life, but not all. I have ignored it because I had joined a Photowalk group and they were doing all these things. This decision resulted in a lot of different lenses which costs much more than the camera itself. With the right focus a Canon R5 is reachable I think.
Hey, thanks for your thoughts! Regarding the auto constant change of exposure issue, is there any workaround for it? Like shooting in manual exposure? I was looking to buy the fuji x-t4 mainly for video use and your observation made me pretty worried now..:(
They replaced super-useful «metering mode» physical knob of T1/2/3 with useless «Still/Video» (effectively duplicate of «drive mode»), it is very sad :-(
I had an issue with a 4 week old XT3 where the shutter release button started to stick. I took it to the store and Fuji took 2 weeks to replace the top plate. It was not wet at any time. I still own my XT1 which survived December London rains. (got a bit foggy in the viewer, but dried out). I hate to point fingers, but I feel like the idea to produce these in China instead of Japan may have had something to do with it.

Roman! Sold my a7s3 because I’m not able to grade much and prefer SOOC and maybe minor tweaks. Xs10, Xt4, xh2 are my choices. 70/30 video to photo. Travel, family, documentary, educational videos etc. looking for a body rec and 1 lens rec.
just got this one, honestly one of the best camera I've ever had, other than the grip compare to my A7IV,everything feels so well built..awesome
Excellent report as usual. Highly valuable for an XT user as usual
Did you end up doing it?
@@elliegrace6410 he ended up buying a gopro yolo jk😊
Thank you for sharing your experience with the camera. I do have the X-T4 but I would never subject it to such a downpour, I don’t go out with the camera even if it’s just a drizzle, I’ll stay home, watch Netflix and have a drink (or two). I shoot 100% stills (I don’t have any interest in video), but I still would get this one over the X-T3 if nothing else, just for the battery life, I also have the X-T2 and the difference in batteries (life) is just as you said. Stay safe Roman.
The auto sound thing is a problem with just about any camera with sound set on auto. Not really an xt-4 specific problem.
Awesome video! Helped me decide in getting the X-T4 :)
I did get water in the battery compartment somehow... no damage though.
Excellent in depth review. Thx for showing the screen feel. You mentioned alot of stuff I wanted to know.
04:00 I CANNOT wait for the Scotland video now. That is some "Oh Damn!" type of weather you guys got there. Also, really looking forward to the photographs from the trip ^^
Love your long term reviews! Please do them for any other cameras you have 🙏
super helpful video - thank you! really appreciate your thoughts and review overall; and adds an extra dimension and layer of confidence for me in hearing about your experience with the water exposure and repair.
thanks for this amazing review, i'm intentioned to buy this camera and your video helped me a lot.
Thanks for a honest review! I'll love to buy this camera
Why so?
The ultimate review! Thank you
Great review!👍 Love my X-T4 and all the lenses that I bought. Such a fantastic hybrid workhorse of a camera.✌😎
Thanks for the review Roman. You are the man!
@0:33 , so YOU'RE the type of geeza that takes the term 'waterproof' to heart!
I ve had the same problem with the lens mount. I got caught in a snow storm with the 16-80mm and when I got home the camera was soaking wet. When I dismounted the lens water was on the mount. My camera did not shut down or had any problems but I got worried when I saw how far water managed to get in.
Truly appreciate your videos.
As a kit product, it has a
Fujifilm XF 16-80mm lens and I wish to know if it is a good one (inside offices pictures, interviews, horses competitions) or I should buy the body only first and choose another lens for it. Thank you very much, again!
Interesting review especially the weather sealing. My mate uses Olympus and has used his cameras in downpours with no issues. Still unsure about XT4. My XT2 is hanging on but really would like IBIS
unless you need IBIS and selfie screen go for the XT3 tbh
One thing to note is if a camera gets wet inside you could have corrosion so sending it to Fujifilm was a good idea.
@@snapsbyfox would £1249 be a good price for the xt4
Good review and it confirmed a few things for me. The sticky button and top plate replacement is a real problem for me living on the coast. I've had my Xt2 top plate replaced one or two times. Super expensive once my warranty ran out. I also had a water splash that ruined a WR lens. I'll definitely buy extended insurance if I get the Xt4. You had a 2 day turnaround!? That's not my experience at all. I've had several Fuji repairs and I'm always out of a camera for a few weeks.
Trump 1 !!!!!!
Nothing is as it seems.
I love my X-T4. Had the X-S10 and while it was good, this X-T4 is just so great.
I've had a Canon with the same style flip screen for 7 years and never had a problem/accident with it.
Hey mate great review. I shoot surfing, in water and from the beach. Never used a fuji before but thinking of trying the xt-4. Do you think it’s performance would be good enough for fast paced surfing? Or should I stick to the canon cameras
Thank you for a great overview, maybe one topic I miss here is about shooting in low light conditions.
I haven't really done much low light.... that's the goal for this winter
Great info Roman. Thanks! How's the autofocus for video? Did you mention that? I can't remember seeing it.
Very helpful thank you. Beginning to get an idea as to what's around. At some point soon will need to do something camera wise.
Loving my XT4...I'm 99% photos.....another great vid and agree... :D
I tried to like the XT-4, but just didn't. Nice show, and glad you are happy with Fujifilm
You forgot to talk about Eterna...
In my opinion there is nothing like it for video, it makes everything look great and there also helps the workflow so much that for me is a no-brainer!
@@snapsbyfox I have to tell you, Fuji just amazes me every single shoot, it is absolutely gorgeous!
I mean, one the new one is the flip screen so hard and
change of objectiv, a 2 hand job. Or was that after they
chanced the top plate?
Great video, as always. Thanks man! 👍🏻
Excellent info, thanks!!!
Thanks Roman, always good stuff.
I am sold. Thanks for details!
A great review! I'm still in doubt between the Fujifilm XT4 or the Sony A7 mark III body. Can't choose....
I'm in love with the Fuji vintage design, can't convince myself to get something else.
sony beat fuji by far...go fuji if you want to be fancy. go Sony if you want perf
Thank you for the good information🌈
great stuff. i have the camera too, love it. i'm always one to second guess a purchase, or eye up a different brand, but i would still choose the X-T4 again today, and considering the variety in the camera market, that says something.
for stills, i've always left ibis on, but read that you might actually get sharper pics, at high shutter speeds, with it off. have you tried this at all?
Strange regarding you having issues with the X-T4 getting wet. I thought it shouldn't happen, camera should be pretty well weather sealed.
Mine got water in battery compartment... The battery door doesn't seem as well sealed as X-T3 or X100V's
How do you like the image quality? I wonder if it's good enough for bigger prints and landscape photography
General rule about weather sealing... if you are getting soak, your camera is getting soaked!
So why would you be shooting in that downpour?
because I want to take a photo of the downpour...
Can you save custom WB along with the custom recipes in XT4?
Thanks for the review! Thoughts on the Fuji XT4 vs. the Sony A7C?
I had 3 Fuji XT4's...i love the Sony A7C
sony better overall
I'm getting mine this week!!!!
Another predominant video review of this camera, sei
I am honestly confused between xt4 and Sony a7iii. Both are equally tempting cameras to buy. I want to shoot wedding and so some studio portraits. What's your take on that?
I like mine but I don't use it for video as yet because the sounds is not good at all.
Sleek, quality video as always. Bell activated.
P.S. you look very fetching in stormy weather
Nice! I'am really proud i got one of these.
What lens would you recommend for nature documentary videos?
@@snapsbyfox Thank you! My current budget is enough for a 23 f2 as an all around lens so I have to save money :)
I got an XT-4 myself, kinda wish I'd of got a XPro-3... what do you think
Great video, excellent points!
Hey, thanks for your thoughts! Regarding the auto constant change of exposure issue, is there any workaround for it? Like shooting in manual exposure? I was looking to buy the fuji x-t4 mainly for video use and your observation made me pretty worried now..:(
Hey Roman, which is better as far as weather sealing... XT3 or XT4?
They replaced super-useful «metering mode» physical knob of T1/2/3 with useless «Still/Video» (effectively duplicate of «drive mode»), it is very sad :-(
I couldn't get my peak design anchors into the eyelets. how did you?
I had an issue with a 4 week old XT3 where the shutter release button started to stick. I took it to the store and Fuji took 2 weeks to replace the top plate. It was not wet at any time. I still own my XT1 which survived December London rains. (got a bit foggy in the viewer, but dried out). I hate to point fingers, but I feel like the idea to produce these in China instead of Japan may have had something to do with it.
