I am so grateful to you and the other scrappers that save all of this from the landfill. I see a lot of metal just tossed. Thanks for "Leaving it Better than you found it"
Oh, they do an mazing job. Retrieving and processing junk in incredible volumes, much of it which I myself would definitely prefer not to be tasked or confronted with.
So you noticed the coveralls too. A not insignificant part of the video might have been recorded at night as well. Keeping in mind that the entire earth gets the same amount of sunlight, Calgary winters in my opinion wouldn't make up for it.
I have mixed feelings about it😅 having it solid is great but it was nice to be able to move it around.. we’ll see how I feel after trying it like this for a few
24:35 Awesome. I ran into the same situation while dumpster diving. I was surprised when the guy who was using it said I could just smash all the glass off the siding and scrap the aluminum, but I didn't feel like doing it. Great video.
Thank you! I’ve got two cameras I bounce between and the nice one stays at home but I’ve been trying to use it more. I could bump the GoPro up to 4k but it feels like such a waste of hard drive space 😅
1) Yay! He’s mounting the vice, y’all! 2) I don’t like coming home with an empty truck as I always like to find something to pick up on my way home from the scrapyard.
I’d like to repurpose everything I find, but I have serious limitations with space and time 😅 Try not to keep anything unless I can think of what it will be used for
Ya'ay! He called us Pandas again! Enthusiast sounds politer and all, but Pandas is just, well, naughtier.... And, C'mon Thub, you +hammer+ glass will only ever equal a 'happy accident'!
Glad to see you're still at it. The only place paying anything around here is 3 hrs away. In town bare bright copper is less than $1 a pound, aluminum cans .10, and steel is $40 a ton. I'm waiting.
Always like your dumpster diving. Shame you couldn't clean up all that aluminium and stainless. I would have persisted on that chunk of aluminium. Hammer the screw first. 👍
I actually did give it a few good whacks but it still wouldn’t budge. I could’ve kept on with the aluminium, they were definitely the best pieces I’ve seen in awhile
Holding my copper and aluminum copper rads till prices get better. Stainless has plummeted to .10/.25 from .83 a few months ago..and impact screwdriver for stuck hardware.
A very good selection of scrap. I have OCD when it comes to cleaning scrap my problem is I spend to much time cleaning scrap. They use brass for handles and door knobs because bacteria magically disinfect themselves in about eight hour. That was a cheap desk. I've had extruded aluminium with glass they are impossible to take out.
I’m glad the desk wasn’t anything special, I went home thinking about it still. I’m sure plenty of people would’ve cleaned the alu, my hammer drill would’ve stripped the glass out fairly easily but it would still be an hour of work for $10
Great content Thub! A few things to mention. That cast ally engine block that you stripped would have had a cast iron cylinder sleeve - did you get away with that in the 'clean' pile? Next - hard to undo bolts in the big cast ally housing would undo much easier after jarring the threads with a hammer! A few good whacks with a solid shaft punch will usually do the trick. Lastly - most retro era furniture hardware is made from diecast zinc alloy rather than brass. Sorry for the late comment - still way behind on your vids!
Would have saved the port hole window! Pretty neat. Do you have metal sculpture artists? They'd probably not say no to the unusual scraps. Glass was beautiful! Be safe. Wear safety glasses out there.
I wasn’t sure about how I put this one together, perhaps it would’ve been best to do the diving as one vid and the sorting as another. I guess it was a bit long for some!
Should’ve kept it and given it a try 😕 I kinda thought the cutting torch wouldn’t work the same, since the steel melting is an exothermic reaction with the oxygen and it’s just oxygen doing the cutting once it gets to temperature but aluminium doesn’t behave the same
Hi is there a reason you generically refer to some of the items you're taking apart as "this thing" "the thing that goes to the thing" this video you were reading the identification name tag and in the middle of the real words you said blah blah blah. Do manufacturing companies tell you not to disclose what thing actually are in an effort to prevent bad guys from finding one of their products and stealing it to get $ for scrap? Just wondering? After I became interested in your videos and what you're doing because I'm in the beginning stages of parting out scrapping a 40 ft 5th wheel. I started thinking about this whole catalytic converter theft craze. What's so special about the catalytic converter compared to the stuff you're doing. I started on the hot water heater today had to go back and watch some more videos and 2 microwaves I started but need to watch more. I have 2 refrigerator compressors now but I do not yet own an angle grinder. Is there a tool you might recommend either over the angle grinder or a good brand I should look at? Thank I enjoy your show very much . Great editing, I love the cinematography filters sounds almost therapeutic. Nice personality too. So thanks for putting the bug in my ear that I can literally scrap my entire rig but by bit. On my own. I don't have the upper body strength as you men, but I'm getting a feel for it . I even found 2 motors sitting by a grocery dumpster. They are very heavy. I don't why but they both had oil over the side of them .. and ideas from anyone? Respect!
Most of the time I just say “the thing” because I don’t know the name of the thing or my brain is being slow lol. The catalytic converters are special because they have high concentrations of precious metals which are cheaper to acquire through recycling than production mining so theyre in high demand, I partnered with a company to produce a whole series explaining them in great detail if you’re interested! As far as the angle grinder, it really is the best tool and great for so many things, I’d get a corded one before the cordless because they just work better. Don’t know anything about the oily motors but definitely grab them if you can! Thanks for watching, and all the best on your adventures!
I am so grateful to you and the other scrappers that save all of this from the landfill. I see a lot of metal just tossed. Thanks for "Leaving it Better than you found it"
People tend to think you need to take large amounts, I take small amounts on my ebike and have an account set up.
Oh, they do an mazing job. Retrieving and processing junk in incredible volumes, much of it which I myself would definitely prefer not to be tasked or confronted with.
Unpredictable Safety glass. The bane of every scrap picker.
I’m just glad it was in a dumpster, that would have been a heck of a mess to clean up!
You are so Lucky To have friends that give you so much scrap
I know! I’m very grateful for them
Everytime you bust out the grinder on the street I always laugh. Thanks thub!
Awesome video thanks Thub, glad you finally bolted that vice down too, was painful watching you chase that round lol 😂
True, but it was kinda funny 😆
You're like Canada's version of Mr. Rogers. And yes, i would like to be your neighbor. Or at least I would if it weren't so cold up there. Lol
So you noticed the coveralls too.
A not insignificant part of the video might have been recorded at night as well.
Keeping in mind that the entire earth gets the same amount of sunlight, Calgary winters in my opinion wouldn't make up for it.
lol it's 110F in BC Canada today :)
Sorry it’s been a while, great video!
Edit: oh I just realised I changed my RUclips acc name I’m your mate from the Emerald Isle
Oh, so you are! I recognize your name from discord 👌 hope you’re having an awesome summer my guy!
I’m so proud of you for finally mounting that vice!! 🙌🏼👏🏼👍🏼😁
Great video.
ciao dall'Italia adoro i tuoi video, bel lavoro. Hi from Italy, love your video, good job.
Oh well hello from Calgary and thank you so much! Hope you’re having a fine summer out there 👍
I love the processing videos
Great run.
Good job on mounting the vice :)
Lol yeah 😆
thank you for fixing down your vice, keep up the great content
Will do!
I could feel the frustration with that piece around 12:30. Been there many times. Man I really need to get sides on my Sharkmobile.
The wood sides were such a huge upgrade, I’m really glad I took the time to do that 👌
@@thubprint 👍🏻
Glass? I see no glass 😁✌
Ahh Vandal, a sensible man if I’ve ever met one! 😄
Handles are probably diecast great video have a great day
You too! And ol die cast, one of my least favourites 😆
Nice score
Love it. 👏👏👏
Good find I remember the candy dives you use to do.those were great to watch.leave it better then you found it.. peace
Great video
Is that a new camera Thub. Video is seriously clear. Nice job
And yes - it is 3am and I am about to go do the thing. 😝😅😵💫
Did the thing, sorted the things, now off to sell the things. A final report when I return, if anyone is interested.
360 pounds of steel, $22. For the sealed unit & other stuff, another $36. Worth it.
Yes yes it’s mounted… for now haha
I know the feeling though, I can’t help but find something every time I leave the house lol
First
: )
Always love a good dumpster diving vid
I'm glad you saved those stainless steel pieces they look really cool. Awesome video as always
So far they’re just pen holders, but I like them 😁
@@thubprint that's a good idea 👍
Nice run glade you are trying to reperpose some of the material you find
I’d like to repurpose everything I find, but I have serious limitations with space and time 😅
Try not to keep anything unless I can think of what it will be used for
I'd call that a good haul. Thank you for a few minutes of relaxation tonight. Have a good weekend Thub.
Thanks, you too!
Ya'ay! He called us Pandas again! Enthusiast sounds politer and all, but Pandas is just, well, naughtier....
And, C'mon Thub, you +hammer+ glass will only ever equal a 'happy accident'!
I admit the glass breaking wasn’t a complete surprise 😆
Awesome scores, good load :D
So glad I went out hunting 😊
Thanks for letting us watch over your shoulder. You are a hard working man. for sure. Good to see you getting in some dumpster action. Keep on keepin.
Glad to see you're still at it. The only place paying anything around here is 3 hrs away. In town bare bright copper is less than $1 a pound, aluminum cans .10, and steel is $40 a ton. I'm waiting.
I certainly would, those prices are terrible 😳
Always like your dumpster diving. Shame you couldn't clean up all that aluminium and stainless. I would have persisted on that chunk of aluminium. Hammer the screw first. 👍
I actually did give it a few good whacks but it still wouldn’t budge. I could’ve kept on with the aluminium, they were definitely the best pieces I’ve seen in awhile
Sweet finds Thub should have saw zall that cast box but you did great 👍
Oh that would have worked too.. I should’ve kept it and waited for suggestions!
Nice loads my friend
Thanks! It turned into a pretty decent day I’d say!
Good to see some dumpster diving again. Keep the quality and variety of the vids coming✌
Thank you! I like this 50/50 mix for right now, diving is a fun adventure and I’m happy to be able to share it 👍
Paul Bunyans monocle!
awesome...!!!
Hi love the videos! Can you do a video on if it's worth stripping small engines like chain saws and lawnmower engines?
have you considered a air chisel or by now maybe battery op ones. make short work of lots of things
I’ve got something now, a corded hammer drill with hammer-only function and it is an absolute treat when doing transformers and motors 👌
Holding my copper and aluminum copper rads till prices get better. Stainless has plummeted to .10/.25 from .83 a few months ago..and impact screwdriver for stuck hardware.
Impact screwdriver, nice! Yeah prices have softened a lot but that’s pretty bad for stainless
Cool
A very good selection of scrap. I have OCD when it comes to cleaning scrap my problem is I spend to much time cleaning scrap. Those large valves. The ball in the middle,is brass, then plated. I didn't no for about 10 of them.
Really??? I’m so glad I kept them then! I’d kinda feel bad grinding into them just to check though
Great content Thub! A few things to mention. That cast ally engine block that you stripped would have had a cast iron cylinder sleeve - did you get away with that in the 'clean' pile? Skills in breaking down on site
Do you save the toys from the dumpster??????????
I don’t usually, unless it’s something particularly good
Would have saved the port hole window! Pretty neat. Do you have metal sculpture artists? They'd probably not say no to the unusual scraps. Glass was beautiful! Be safe. Wear safety glasses out there.
I do kinda regret not saving the window, that would have been awesome just to slap into a door somewhere
I see you’re finally got use out of your log that you got a month ago for your vice
It has been sitting waiting for awhile now lol
I couldn't watch full video it was taking to long...... Curious if u handled that heavy metal? Or if u took it on to the scrap yard?
I wasn’t sure about how I put this one together, perhaps it would’ve been best to do the diving as one vid and the sorting as another. I guess it was a bit long for some!
Heat up bolts before undo. Just a tip
That would have made a big difference, I’ve even got a great torch for it 😄
Question; Does cast aluminum break like cast iron when you smack it with a hammer?
Keep doing the thing! 🙏🏼🇺🇸🇨🇦
D’oh! Yes you’re absolutely right, it totally does break when you smack it… that stuff was pretty thick but I should’ve at least tried lol
Such fun! I am coveting your gears. Those gas pump . . . nozzle . . filler . . . things - would be great hands on a sculpture. Do you have a welder?
I don’t have a welder, but I do have a torch! Videos are my sculptures these days, not about to start making yard art just yet aha
@@thubprint - When you do, I'll be your first customer.
You Left a stereo system ☹️😭😭
Yeah but they’re usually messed up somehow and not worth it in scrap
To misquote BB King, the Steel is gone. The steel is gone away.....
You cAn torch through aluminum. I seen me do it a lot. Oxy acytalene
Should’ve kept it and given it a try 😕
I kinda thought the cutting torch wouldn’t work the same, since the steel melting is an exothermic reaction with the oxygen and it’s just oxygen doing the cutting once it gets to temperature but aluminium doesn’t behave the same
@@thubprint wear a mask bud something about aluminum burning probably isn’t good. Happy picking. 👍🏼
Argghh you threw those zinc-cast back! What have you got against zinc Thub? Must be a Calgary thing...
I just don’t get a good price for it is all, it’s dirty aluminium. Takes forever for me to fill a bin
Didn’t know 316 was that valuable, you probably gained like $40 just for cleaning two of those pieces
