If you can manage to sew a mostly straight seam - or check with your dry cleaner for the name of a seamstress - it's pretty easy to add borders, trim or fringe to extend a comforter. The puffy part will still cover you, but it will look and hang better on the bed. A six inch border on each edge will add a _foot_ of extra coverage. 👍

Doorways also need to be clear for easy egress in case of fire or other emergency. Paramedics might need to bring in a stretcher or you might need the gtfo because your house is on fire. Be stylish and be safe.
On that note - make sure you have functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors as well as a fire extinguishers. And please learn to use the extinguisher before you need it. My father is a firefighter. I can’t help it.

@@Baglady111 I’m glad someone else understands! I had a friend die in his apartment just felt from his front door.
Blocked fire exits are everywhere because people just don’t get it. The Station nightclub fire video should be mandatory watching. It’s difficult to watch but it is a real-world example of how quickly fire can/will spread. I think it was 1 minute and 30 seconds from the start of the fire to the building being engulfed.
Know where your exits are and make sure they’re not blocked or, god forbid, locked. See something, say something. Call the Fire Marshall and report things like that. You can do so anonymously. I’ve done it and the Fire Marshall, in a large city, was there the very next day.

The furniture in the doorway conundrum was giving me such grief! There was really no other place to put the living room TV and of course we needed a way to hold all the other equipment but it couldn't be over 14-16" at maximum. We thought about all sorts of alternative ideas like a vintage record holder, magazine holder, etc while also scouring fb marketplace and craigslist for console and sofa tables. Completely lucked out in finding a handmade antique style console that was 11" deep and topped with granite for $75!

I love these great tips, Garrett! It made me wonder what you might think about feature walls in a more contemporary space. Do you like wall panels or feature colors rather than moulding? Also, I was thinking how rugs can frame a space or help with flow. Maybe you have something to offer on selecting rugs for our spaces, styles, and traffic flow! I'm learning SO much from your videos, and my home will be the more beautiful for it, so THANK YOU!!!

I wonder why shops sell here those huge sofas (particularly L-Form Sofas) which we have here in Germany where we hardly have Room or enough space ... My trouble at the moment is finding a well proportionale sofa for my living room ... It it so difficult ... In the US you have much more space than what we have here specially if one is living in an expensive city like Munich or Stuttgart ... Thank you again for very interesting video ...

The mathematical/geometrical application of size, shape, scale and relative proportion to design and aesthetics is something you have the knowledge and qualifications to explain so clearly Garrett. Really fascinating but also you prompted so many "ahah, of course...." realisations for me. If you ever think of going into teaching design professionally in your industry you'll be a natural at it, but in the meantime please stay on YT!! ❣️

Thank you so much for the lovely comment! I have a great passion for interior design and decorating. Sometimes people think all that’s involved in this field is picking out pretty things and suggesting what’s trendy on social media. When you go to design school you quickly learn that’s not the case. There is a lot more to it including math and construction and so much more. I think education is important or at least training under a highly qualified designer or decorator for several years. There is a lot to know in this field to be effective. I love making RUclips videos to share my knowledge and passion to inspire people. I respect all styles whether it’s mine or not and I only make suggestions. People are free to take inspiration from it or stay the same. I’m totally fine either way. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

@@GarrettLeChic Well your passion coupled with expertise shines through, so hope you keep loving it. It really is interior architecture more than anything it sounds to me, of which design is one key element and decorating is the final touch.

My husband built my sofa table specifically for plants. I loved it. Our couch is a littke taller then most. But then we moved it to our dinning room, its only 6in wide. So it makes a huge statement in there.

Wow Garrett, I’ve only subscribed in the last couple of months and have been binge watching your channel! Thank you so much for your content. Our house is nearly finished and we haven’t started to buy the furniture yet! Your information on scale was a lightbulb moment. That your major piece in a room is the one that needs to set the scale. It makes so much sense BUT makes me more nervous to start! 😳
Dilemma: The dark teal velvet couch is calling to me - but do I play it safe and get a more neutral couch and choose smaller pieces eg accent chairs in a colour!! Aauugghh!! BUT …. I also love beautiful mid tone (?) ash brown ….mmmmm! ( not the tan which is a bit more yellow). Oh my … the options and choices!!! Then again there is that beautiful wine claret colour !!! I need to get a grip!! Do you say that in America … “get a grip” ? ( I’m Australian) … it means to take a hold of yourself and calm yourself down! When someone’s losing the plot we say it. Anyway thanks again Garrett from a frazzled Deb x

Thanks for sharing your knowledge Garrett! One thing that drives me crazy (trust me there are many things actually I won’t bore you with the details) is when a house doesn’t use dimmer switches or 3 way bulbs…something. I don’t know why but I always notice and it drives me crazy…short trip😆

Thanks for watching and subscribing! I understand the dilemma. Unfortunately in interior decorating there isn’t always a ready made solution that with give the functionality and aesthetic we want. My opinion would be to look locally and online for someone to make it for you. It doesn’t have cost a ton if you find the right person. It might take some time and checking around but than you get what you want. 😀😀😀

I think I've lined up four of these mistakes into my bedroom. It's the most horrible room in my house. The duvet is too small, there's a big tall bookcase as you walk in and there's too much bulky furniture in different styles to the bed in it. Now it's spelled out to me. I didn't understand it because piece by piece I love it all, but it's such a claustrophobic room...
