Stevie Ray Vaughan was a Texas guitar slinger who played and sang the blues so deep down and gritty that it reached inside you and effortlessly lifted your emotions straight to the surface. Thirty-two years since he went on to be with the Lord, I still get the same aching in my heart when I listen to him play, and I never met him. I was born in San Antonio 1953. Stevie, Dallas 1954. The good die young. Thank you, Lord, for blessing us with the talent and life of a great but humble and kind man from Texas. A man who battled his demons and won. I just found his AA testimony yesterday. Stevie Ray Vaughan was a man's man. He made his family and all of Texas proud. May you rest in peace, Stephen Ray Vaughan. P.S. Somebody should make a movie about his life! So many lessons to be learned.
If you close your eyes and listen you can almost smell the stale Cigarette smoke whisky and beer. All cramped into a small place just to hear this master play even before he was signed. The guy calling out "What" to make Stevie jam more and he does then he starts to sing the guy calls out "Stevie, Stevie", is too much for words! BB King loved Stevie, so I bet when he first hears Stevie play his song I bet he smiled from ear to ear. The delicate feel to the crushing licks and bends are awesome. Rest in peace to both masters of the Guitar and the blues. RIP
I very much share your sentiment, FretMaster68. I, too, play blues guitar, and one of my dreams is to rip a scorching blues solo like this, behind a slow 12/8 beat, in a packed, smoky bar, with a neon beer sign flashing somewhere near the stage. Very similar to a Blue Jean Blues ZZ Top feel. It doesn't get any more real than this...
Since Stevie Ray ended his life as a BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN (don't even try argueing with me, I have PROOF) He IS in heaven with the other greats. Since I am also a SAVED, BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN, I've got tickets to the concert.
This explains perfectly what Clapton and B.B. said about SRV. He was an open channel, with endless ideas, and he never seemed lost in what he was playing.
I saw him five times. Each time was unreal. My best memory? Nashville 89. A summer storm was on the horizon and he played Couldn’t Stand the Weather. Surreal.
You can sense the intimacy of the room. It reminds me of the gigs SRV played at Fitzgeralds in Houston. Old Polish dance hall with the performance space on the second floor and neighborhood bar on the first. For an 18 year old kid from upstate NY and on his own, it was a great introduction to Texas and an amazing catalog of music.
There’s Stevie pouring his blues heart out in Texas clubs. To think that anyone could just wander in and be in the presence of such greatness boggles the mind.
Omg what a find. I wish I could show my father this. Rip Stevie and my dad. He knew so many great blues tunes abd had quite the collection. Wed just sit outside with the blues coming out thru the Windows on a beautiful day. And this sound takes me to those memories as a kid. I love it.
Thank you Matthew. I love Stevie. I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to see him in concert. Gone too soon 😢 Thank you again 😊 I will be looking for more from you. Joi
Stevie Ray Vaughan didn't die... he went to play guitar for God. Their isn't a guitarist as effortlessly tallented as this man was & will forever be the benchmark that real music aficionados will measure others to.
Wrong. He died and is judged for his sins. Narrow is the path. There is judgment. You best believe that. Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God shall bring every work into Judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil. / Acts 17:31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will Judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. / Romans 14:10-12 (10) But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the Judgment seat of Christ. / (11) For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. / (12) So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God./ Matthew 12:36-37 (36) But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of Judgment. / (37) For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. /
Yes Stevie Died. He is ashes and dust at this point and he will be judged by GOD for his sins and transgressions. There is a Gate and Wall at heavens gate. Period. As far as this life, he was a great blues guitar player.

He was only about 27 years old when this was recorded. In the Blues world, that's like an infant, but he played and sang way beyond his age. Hard to believe he'd be almost 70 now, if he'd survived. Imagine the music he would have created in the last 30 years ?
