Agreed. Also for anyone curious, they are two entirely separate species. Herichthys carpintis and Herichthys cyanoguttatus (true Texas cichlid). Most of the confusion stems from the fact that the bloodlines have been muddied so badly over the years in the aquarium trade so you see tons of fish that look like intergrades. But if you see true wild caught forms of each species they are actually very different looking as you pointed out.

"VERY DIFFERENT"😂 YA CAUSE ONE HAS BLUE SPOTS AND ONE HAS BLUEISH GREEN SPOTS. SSSOOOOOPP DIFFERENT. THEYRE THE SAME FUCKING THING. SAME TEMPERMENT SAME SIZE SAME DIET AND ALMOST THE EXACT SAME COLOR EVEN. NOBODY IS CONFUSED, OVER THESE TWO FISH. ITS LIKE SAYING A BARRED MIDAS AND A PIEBALD MIDAS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT FISH....NO THEYRE NOT. DIFFERNT COLOR VARIETIES. SAME FISH. AND AS FAR AS WHERE DO YOU FIND THESE FISH EVERYWHERE THAT HAS WARM WATER. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! THEY ARE NOT SOME EXATIC RARE CONFUSED FISH. TEXAS IS AN OVER GROWN PERCH. BIG DEAL.

That is a gorgeous fish. Of the larger Central American Cichlids, the Vieja Synspilum is the most strikingly colored species I've seen, but the Carpintis is definitely up in the top 5. The Red Terror, Green Terror, and Umbee would be in there as well (not necessarily in that order). As for medium sized cichlids, the Salvini and Thoricthys Aureus are two of my favorites.

If you look them up on Google, they look to be one and the same thing. Eg. The green or blue Texas, is less aggressive, regarded as a carpintis also. Does not say it's a separate species. It's just a different type of Texas, called a different common name. Lots of plants and animals have various varieties and common names. The wild Texas is completely different, I will give you that. Which does actually look more like your picture.

In my years in keeping both, I noticed that the texas cichlids are more aggressive than carpintis. It's sad I don't see texas cichlids in lfs here in Michigan, Maybe there are an invasive species now? I miss them. Accidently, I had some cross with my Jack Dempsey cichlids and they turned out to be beautiful too. they had texas cichlid bodies, dots but Jack Dempsey colors, When I gave them to lfs, they were called " jackas" cichlids. I don't know why hybrids are frowned upon? look at flowerhorns and some parrot cichlids?

(Green texas is a hybrid name) the common name for carpintis is (pearlscale) but a lot of people nowadays refer to them as green texas when really there not come from same family but different species
